Reading the Room: Georgia Bulldogs Running Backs | 2024 College Football Preview

Intro what is up everybody welcome back here to the de YouTube channel we're talking college football today and we're diving into our reading the room series we really like this series I like diving into these guys and today we're taking a look at the Georgia running backs and I'm gonna tell you right now this is one of the more talented groups out there in the SEC actually in all college football I think that they're incredibly underrated group and one that could be one of the deepest rooms in the country if they stay healthy but let's dive into 2023 Review what that offense looked like last year scoring offense was just under 40 points per game they were number five in the country there total offense just under 500 yards per game they were number six in the country plays per game though efficiency metrics not amazing right plays for game 59th passing attempts even with Carson Becket quarterback 63rd 68th and then on the other side when you're thinking of rushing percentage so rushing statistics you know rushing attempts per game 61st run percentage 66 there's a reason why they went got Trevor etn in the portal but at the same time they did average nine or excuse me 5.3 yard per Rush which is not top 10 in the country so they do know how this offense does know how to run the ball they are efficient doing it but I think it really just came down hey they needed some more backs in that room they definitely needed to get healthier I love Kendall Milton I love dejon Edwards and those guys but I'm gonna tell you right now this running back room is much more talented than they were last year now who runs their offense That's Mike Offensive Coordinator/Depth Chart Bobo and I know Georgia fans have different opinions on Mike Bobo I've heard them all uh but really what what do you expect if you're not a big Georgia fan if if you don't know what's kind of in that back field you know or in that offense and what he does you know underrated passing attack I think Beck got better last year I mean people need to remember that was his first year starting um I thought he improved at times and I think that they definitely pushed the ball down field last year I think play action is going to be a little bit bigger this year especially with that running back room they have an emphasis on athleticism lobo's gonna you know he looks for those athletic players he likes those athletic you know molds and types out there and you're going to see that and then I you know from efficiency standpoint wants them to be efficient and I think you saw that for the yards per rush and everything there and I do think just just to understand kind of what he's looking for you know he they were still top 20 last year in rushing yards per game even though they dealt with kind of the inconsistent running back room that just tells me that they want to run the football they had another 193 yards a game last year you're going to see them run the football probably more this year even with Carson Beck as being a Heisman candidate I do think that that's why they went out and really shed up that running back room now when you're looking at their projected depth chart right now it has Trevor eten at running back one rodri Robinson at running back two Branson Robinson three Cash Jones I threw him in there um and then the Freshman Dwight Phillips Chanty bones and Nate Frasier who we're gonna be getting into but let's get into the running back room so first guy up Trevor RB1 Analysis etm Florida transfer transfer excuse me and that's where those you know those fourstar comes from from a transfer perspective he actually did come in as a three star um in high school but I think from a transfer a they like him right right so at Florida the last couple years over 700 yards rushing six touchdowns eight touchdowns so 14 touchdowns uh receiving kind of we saw definitely some receiving Improvement last year as a sophomore out there in Florida it's hard to really dictate what he was at Florida just based on how bad that team has been for him that he's played with especially last year's Squad but from just a prospect perspective what does he do well you know scheme highlights running back so he's definitely going to get involved there he has very very quick burst at the line of scrimmage I think that's one thing that sets him apart and good contact balance I mean for a guy his size his weight he is able to kind of break tackles you looking at the PFF numbers the efficiency metrics he does a good job there I think that he can definitely make guys miss I think that he can kind of get extra yards after contact those are things that you're watching for him and that he does a good job Improvement areas he has some off field stuff and I know that's tough with Georgia but I think they're on thin ice out there you saw rro Thomas get dismissed you see these things there I think that you know he's got to stay the off field concerns got to stay away from him receiving profile from a fantasy perspective or just from hey can he catch balls out the back field I don't know I think there's a concern there I think he got better last year like I said I think he can do it but we got to see more of it more of a sample size and in size I think from the 205 Mark you know especially in the SEC especially with their schedule George's got a pretty tough schedule I think a tougher schedule than than people you know in the past they've had one could argue it's one of the is the toughest schedule in college football maybe not behind maybe behind Florida Florida's got kind of kind of a tough schedule too but I think that it is a tough so from that size is he going to be hold up I think that's a big one now the next guy that I don't think is RB2 Analysis getting enough love out there is rogi Robinson I think Roger Robinson can definitely push T Trevor etn for a for a spot and I think it could be more one a 1B right so he came in at number 14th rank running back at 247 Sports last year didn't get a ton of run last year 24 attempts 196 yards and two touchdowns but this kid is very very good right strengths man he is one the stronger backs you know 6 foot 240 235 depending on where he's listed out there he can definitely do that and you know what it's not just like hey he's just a strength pounded guy he actually has a hell of a one cut up right like his one cut ability to kind of get up the field a guy moving that at that speed at that size is is impressive and he can do it he one cuts and goes goes very good north south downhill guy definitely going to lower the shoulder definitely gonna you know make defenses feel like he's there I think he's a perfect compliment to etn I think they are going to have a very very good 1A 1B lightning thunder type complimentary back status I love both of these kids but I think Rogers getting slept on a little bit I think that people are forgetting how good he is from an improvement area you know lateral agility at that size is always tough pass blocking definitely is something that he's got to work on I think the coaching staff has emphasized that over the offseason by the reports I read and in receiving production too right he never he doesn't really have that either so that's the question is are they going to get these guys involved who's going to be that receiving back is it etn is it Robinson that we've seen in the past with Georgia running backs you know what's Boba going to do how is he going to scheme that up I think that's a big big question mark kind of coming into it when you're looking at it now next guy Branson Robinson came in as a very very highly RB3 Analysis touted recruit out of Georgia when you're talking about kind of where he was coming at you know 2022 people people were excited about this kid last year right 20 so in 2022 he had that 330 yards three touchdowns then he missed all last year because of the injury so he was out for the year he is back now right and I think you know they called him mini chub I think that's what the Georgia fans out there called him just because of his size and everything there he's a very solid back you know if he's healthy I think the biggest question mark is just is he gonna be healthy I think that's the one thing when you're thinking about him coming back off that injury that he had you know if he is these three guys are very very special I think when you're thinking of it like when he comes back he's going to be running with a purpose those three guys him Robinson and etn could be the three best backs on any depth chart right if health is not a concern now from just a scouting report of what Branson does as well you know number one athleticism he's on the feldom freaks list for a reason dude is just a straight ass dog when it comes to athleticism vision and contact balance I think he actually does that really well I think he carries his weight well for that contact balance he keeps his hips in he does a very good job of shutting tackles and in Vision he actually has hell of a vision I think he has good cutback Lanes he does a great job of kind of seeing where the holes are going to be and exploding through them and an inside out runner like I I really feel like he's not one of those guys that definitely bounces every time he looks inside he definitely goes off tackle he can see the holes he's able to kind of make those big plays he's a heck of a guy in that time for that running back standpoint now brood areas you know hands again another Georgia back with that end this depth chart I don't know how much his hands or receiving ability is going to be a big part of his game injury you know the injury is a big deal I think you know coming back off of that how's he going to feel um I know that he is he's talked about really wanting to be kind of that next guy up he feels like he's getting slept on by everybody out there so if he can bounce back from the injury the lower you know and again lower body injuries are always tough but if he can bounce back we're talking about a guy that hey was a top 10 back of his class long sple and explosiveness I don't think is ever going to be a big part of his game especially this year you could definitely see him coming on maybe possibly next year if he comes back to Georgia however that looks maybe go somewhere else but if he can kind of get some run there I think he's GNA be just fine now next back cash Jones just RB4 Analysis/Incoming Freshman want to throw him in here he's just the glue guy right no stars on three two star guy 247 Sports 6 foot 181 doesn't really have a receiving profile did catch a touchdown last year so shout out cash Jones because of that touchdown but other than that I don't know you know when you're looking at him from just a prospect I did kind of dive into his tape a little bit versatility I think that he can you know get moved around a little bit athleticism he does that that big playability he could or or oay ability however you want to put that I put that just to his ability to have that athleticism versatility there does have a small frame does have a limited workload needs to improve his receiving profile and with the dudes behind him and in front of him it's hard to see him kind of getting a lot of run there but hey I want to dive in the entire room so we're giving cash Jones his his his pinnet right now A Little Bit of Love there now the incoming freshman coming in though Dwight Phillips is one of my favorite I think from a pass catching perspective that could be the kid that we're talking about you know I know he's small at 510 175 but he can catch and I think that he's very versatile as well choni Bowens comes in you know running back 30 and 40 depending on where you're at 247 sports are on three but again kind of that big guy 510 227 but I know the guy that they are absolutely in love with is Nate Frasier 59 206 number two rated I'm running back 247 Sports out here in California so I'm gonna shout out California Gotta Give My California boys love since I live out here um but I mean he's just decisive full speed able to do that home run guy I know they talked about him being a home run threat he can score anytime he touches the football that's huge there um and again with Nate he actually started out as a receiver he didn't start playing running back until his junior year and kind of Midway through his junior year so he's kind of got both he's instinctive as a receiver and as a pass catcher um and I think that from a running standpoint and a receiving standpoint this kid this the type of kid that can get out the field a little bit right kind of like how kind of like how Branson did his freshman year too um before the injury last year I think think he has that I think he's allaround really explosive versatile tough that's the kid Nate Frasier that you gota listen for as we kind of dive into it I know he has a hell of a group in front of him but if Nate Frasier gets out there early he can definitely make a noise overall when you're looking at this room like I said I think that this Final Outlook could be a top five backfield in the college football maybe top three I think they're extremely talented I think the player to watch I think the player with the best pro potential is rodri Robinson I think and Branson I think Branson's up there too but the injury kind of it makes me nervous I think Roger's going to make some people like aware of who he is this year and it would not Shock me to see Roger being the running back one from a statistical standpoint I like etn but I think rodri maybe comes out and kind of dominates that back field and they say hey wow Rodi Robinson is is the dude out here etn is more of that change of pace guy that we really like but shout out rodri I think rodri's my guy going in the season that maybe can make that big impact for the Georgia Bulldogs but hey they're gonna be absolutely loaded this team is absolutely loaded shout out to Kirby Smart he's roting like a mad man out there so excited to see what he doing Georgia fans let me
