Alaska port days: Maximize your cruise experience

Juneau [Music] welcome to nice rainy cloudy overcast Juno our helicopter tour got cancelled cuz obviously you don't want to fly in this so we just booked the Eminem tour go see men and Hall Glacier at least try to salvage the day I'm Tracy and I'm a Intro nurse and I'm Chris and I'm a nomad and we love nothing more than getting out and exploring doesn't matter we'll go by plane train or our van however with full-time jobs we got to find ways to maximize our time and that's where we bring you in to show you the tips and tricks and all the fun you can have along the way thanks for watching and don't forget to hit that subscribe button unfortunately we only had a short time in Juno and the weather wasn't cooperating with us for our planned Excursion of a helicopter Glacier walk so we found a tour company at the end of the pier offering a last outgoing tour to the miden hall Glacier and this included a quick bus tour to some of Juno's highlights such as Homestead Park scen in the opening and over Street Park with the whale project statue scene here Mendenhall Glacier before heading out to the men Hall Glacier with about 2 hours to spend at the park and explore we decided to take nugget Falls Trail to check out its namesake waterfall and get closer views of the mindal glacier this Trail is an out and back 2-mile hike with 131 ft of elevation gain it's rated as easy on all trails and takes approximately 40 minutes and starts near the visitor center it's a beautiful hike with lots of greenery creeks and bridges along the water [Music] we're here at the Minden Hall Glacier beautiful Juno Alaska it's stopped raining at least so that's a good sign still a little cloudy um we're doing the Nugget Falls Trail four m that's where we're at right now I think it's like 1 and 1 half miles each way um out and back that waterfall is really loud cuz I can hear it oh they said it was going to take 20 minutes each way when I think we've only been walking for like 5 maybe about s maybe 7 but we are fast Walkers all right 9 minutes and 33 seconds all [Music] right I do hear it yeah they said it's like the Niagara Falls of the north so maybe we're also hearing it from far away it's so large could be it's quite beautiful here though and the tongus tongus national forest the largest temperate rain forest I believe in the world you know who expects to come to a rainforce and get rain anyone who goes to a Rain the portfolio just so dense it is beautiful GRE I think it's this [Music] nugget Falls is 377 ft which splits into two drops of 99 ft and 278 ft onto the Minton Hall Lake Sandbar prior to the recession of the glacier it was said that the Falls would actually drop onto the glacier how long that take us um I think we are 7 1848 a. so just try 20 a minutes out hey [Music] come Brea in breathe out look at the colors colors colors midenhall Glacier is located 12 mi from downtown Juno the glacier is a approximately 13.6 M long this is located in the mhal glacier Recreation Area run by the US Forest Service which encompasses about 5,800 Acres unfortunately the glacier has seen recession of approximately 1.75 mil in the past 100 years you're so good dragging down well there ain't much time left to figure things out well we didn't have long in Juno but I think we made uh the best of it considering the weather and our tour getting cancelled bye Juno bye Juno Jun Juno we're doing date night just the two Le Bistro of us tonight at the French restaurant we had to dress up fancy cuz they actually have a dress code only place on the boat with dress code brought out our nice shirts and our jeans so for the dining package you get one Entre or sorry one appetizer one super salad one Entre one dessert didn't really like any of the on the appetizers Chris got the beef tartar here it's very good very good it's very good I went straight ahead to the Sal course and got some goat cheese crets so happy let's see how these [Music] look I mean is there anything better in life than fried cheese I don't think so and the answer is no that is amazing can never go wrong with fried cheese especially goat that's like one of my favorite Cheetos so very happy so far a crab salad inside smoked salmon [Music] M that's delicious oh my gosh these Entre look freaking amazing this is the duck maple glaze duck with potato carrot and Chris got this massive be chop with some potatoes string beans oh Harry [Music] C oh my gosh guys that is so good that's on the bone part I mean that is just perfect I mean all the way into the bone it's just perfect I just want to be honest I want to be rude and just start gnawing on this thing but I'm not going [Laughter] to start completely not might be frowned upon can I take the bone home with me yes sir but Mass why actually so I can na it and fry it did you get here strawberry almond cake pistachio how is [Music] it it's very good yeah it's nice cuz it's not entirely super sweet sweet no no fairly light it's very light it's an almond cake and a a cream with strawberries oh that's good you're right not too sweet not too sweet at all I went the complete opposite direction and got cheese how do you not get French cheese for dessert goes well with my wine cam bear rockt goat and Monster I got to say Norwegian specialty dining has stepped up from the last couple cruises we've been on it is so good they redid all their menus and the food is spectacular and the service is great as always we're going to go get comfy oh yes oh yes it was a long b day Ketchikan yes all right so we're at w Co which is about 7 miles outside of kiten we literally got the last shuttle going to downtown by about a minute so they have a complimentary shuttle takes 20 minutes to get you to downtown for some reason our olive Board is at 12:30 and the last shuttle back from downtown's at 11 which gets us here at 11:20 little hour and 10 minutes maybe they just want you to shop a little shop the shop looked really cool though but what's up with that Norwegian H keten is known as is Alaska's first city due to its position on the southern tip of the Inside passage it is named after the keten creek which runs through the city and drains into the tongus Narrows keten is a very popular cruise ship port it has the world's largest collection of totem poles located at four different Parks due to the surrounding terrain the city is long and narrow with a lot of the area being built up along the Waterfront such as one of the musty sites in the City Creek Street Creek Street is a boardwalk mounted on stilts located on the Eastern side of keten creek creek Street was a prior red light district in the early half of the 20th century but is now filled with lots of shops selling souvenirs and you can actually see Dolly's House Museum which was one of the prior broel went to Dandy which is this cute little Apothecary and cafe and got a dirty matcha and I'm a big fan we caught the last shuttle back to W Cove the NCL Cruise terminal which was a prior wood pulp Mill you go through a massive shop to get to the pier so you know we had to stop and grab some Huckleberry treats cuz they're my absolute cruise favorite we out Katch you K so tonight we went up to trivia like we do every night not going to lie it's one of our favorite things to do in a cruise ship there was two trivas pretty much each day more than that but tonight despite all the competition and it's been pretty pretty tight we won we won cuz they had a lot of medical questions we won and not only did we win we won right here a nice toiletry case that's branded so we look like we're famous a deck of cards which if anyone pays attention we do like to play our cards so now we got a new deck of cards and then some of the most important things for travelers is having yourself a keychain bottle opener in case you can't find a Twist Off winner winners winner main room dining winners got a little flatbread here with goat cheese tomato and caramelized onions this is a really good too FL Bread's really freaking good the caramelized onions Thomas the tanginess of the goat cheese well Chris had scallops but he ate them before I even got a chance to record it so good how's your salad very good I went with some butternut squash [Music] soup oh must that butternut squash soup is fantastic staring at it [Music] longingly he got the ve I got the stuffed chicken obviously different style cut that's Chicken ooh it's really good and again Chris can't wait Chris can't wait for the camera it's so excited oh no very goodes key lime this is like a chocolate moose with a little bit of [Music] whip and after dinner it was back to Henry's Pub for our favorite musician Drake cruise Allen we went ahead an hour in time last night as we were heading back towards Seattle so we kind of slept in Miss breakfast so now we're at lunch buffet and it's Italian lunch buffet and I still atam Muno parmesan we got tomato mozzarella salad pasta salad Pudo salami Stilton and some yummy olives and peppers after eating we wandered around the ship checking out the different activities sponsored throughout the day these included Trivia Live music at the pool and you know we had to just grab some adult beverages and play some cards we also went and relaxed on our balcony and enjoyed the beautiful [Music] main room dining scenery how's your coconut shrimp very good coconuty very coconuty bulldozer baked Bree salad that baked Bree is so good mhm M it was like a BRI Empanada with some lettuce yes yeah it's fantastic for our Entre I got spaghetti putanesca while Chris got a lamb shank right off you can just literally take the bone out just skip this bone over there get that out of there got to love a little be shank lamb lamb excuse me oh yeah good good oh and what meal isn't finished without dessert tonight we went with the banana sule with vanilla cron glaz oh so good and well that's almost the end of the cruise on our last night we are packing you got to put your bags outside your door by midnight so you want them to take them off Packy Packy byebye disembarkation BS and unfortunately that
