Astros Recap (9/4 - 9/10)

good evening YouTubers welcome back in to another edition of Astros recap David artist back at it Sunday night I believe I did this Sunday night last week back at the house at the radio station so again Brett you're on noise what's playing on Newsradio 740 KTRH I'm also watching what's left of this uh Packers Bears game here so I'll be looking up occasionally so just keep that in mind I'm gonna try to make this semi-quick um it is 6 34 P.M September 10th so but good week for Astros so good week for the Astros 5-1 this week so I'll start the off days on Thursday for the rest of the year from this point forward it's a six game week but yeah I mean they they beat up on the Rangers pretty good this week sweeping them offensive outbursts in each one of those games came home or you know they struggle and lost fraud they they got absolutely killed Friday but bounce back on Saturday and Sunday to actually pick up the series so it was a good week the Mariners also got swept over the weekend so they asked you to pick up some games and they are in first uh and I think they're too up in the loss column on the Mariners which is good um so it's starting to deal with a little bit of space hopefully that continues to get better and the answer schedule gets light I mean they got the A's for three uh they stay home to play the A's for three optic and Thursday of course and then they hit the road to Kansas City for three more so another week where you're looking at hopefully I don't like to get too greedy but four and two uh but five and a one is actually probably what you should be shooting for so yeah I mean the Astros I mean the story of the week really for the most part was the hitting our hitters broke out you know how two they had a good I'm gonna try to run through this I know mostly on these podcasts I focus on the pitching side of the uh things but um for this it'll be more offense um Yeah Tuesday was great I mean everybody was hitting in that Ranger series it felt like even Jose Abreu um let's see if I can get back here so the Monday game which is the afternoon Labor Day game they actually were down three to nothing through four innings so they were down early but you know scored three in the fifth to tie it then they gave up one so it was four to three they take the lead back four to three five to four it's five to five after six innings make sure that Matthew five to five after six but then we broke out in the seventh with six runs so I mean a lot of um you know Diaz had a big three win home run that really opened it up see if I can just find scoring plays here for you but yeah Corey Seeger you know got the scoring starter for the Rangers two run shot Mitch Garver had an RBA single Pena had an RBI single bregman two run single Seger had another home run which gave him the lead right back but dude Bond Hummer yeah so the big story here was the uh back to back home runs and they did it twice first time ever I think in major league history were the nine Hole in One Hole hitters hit back to back home runs twice that never happened before so but dubon yeah Dupont with a multi-homer game now two of the multi-homer game and yeah we really broke things up open there in the um seventh inning to really widen the Gap added two more runs in the ninth the 13-6 so good win offensive Outburst continued in Tuesday's game Altuve hit three home runs in the first three Innings I think they were all solo shots uh if I could find it yeah solo home run Siege sell a home run solo home run so you hit three home runs and three and easy Astros also scored three runs in each of those first three Innings so they're up nine and nothing and after that was just coasting to Victory basically so uh 14-1 was the final there so they even added some more runs later on I think Abreu had a big it's like Grand Slam maybe that was game the Wednesday game this thing screwed up on me here but yeah I mean Verlander got the start there in game no bro and I got to start there on Tuesday game in which I think he went you know to find this JP France actually did have a great start on Monday I gave five runs I think yeah I gave it five earned runs walk Three struck out five got the no no decision Montero actually got the one out of the bullpen but he wasn't great but I'm not gonna complain the victory and in verland it was pretty strong after having a few hiccups and his starts um let's see here no I'm mistaken Valdez got to start Tuesday but when seven innings wanted to run walk four that was kind of how it struck out for but giving him seven Innings of one-run baseballs good for Valdez there I'm starting to feel better about his outings and then Verlander on Wednesday he scored another 12 runs this was the big Abreu game I'm sort of getting jumbled here with all these stats here but Altuve had the big three-run home run game their game two home ringing basically the first second and third inning and the answer scored three three to three in those three Innings and the big five runs seventh was all the scoring there so if I go to the seventh and look at this here just to give you Mauricio dubon RBI double Martin Maldonado two-run home run you're on Alvarez two run home run so but moldy I think he had two home runs in that game as well I mean multi-sitting home runs you know something's going good so and then Wednesday yeah more of the same basically this was the biggest seven RBI Grand Slam three run shot game he had and again for our pitchers it was just get through five and not completely screwed up so the pitchers had it easy because it was all offensive series but Verlander went seven innings two runs one was earned six strikeouts and a walk so he was good bullfin held their own for the most part but we just chewed up the uh Rangers we just shoot them up and spit them out basically and yeah we just absolutely dominated them so the goal there was two or three in that series obviously they swept so nine and four to close the book close the books on the Rangers for the year 904 record very happy satisfied with that and then you come back home where the Astros don't play good baseball but after losing 11-2 on Friday they bounce back they're actually down on Saturday four to one but rallied there they had five five run fifth ending and they were able to turn it upside down there and they won seven to five so um this was a about 100 brands stinks by the way I think he got to start there on Friday and he was awful yeah 100 Brown is 100 run and Chris have two guys that scare you immensely in the rotation right now I mean I'm trying to just get his stupid box score here four and a third six hits six earned runs two walks five strikeouts her kitties also struggled out of the bullpen he went four and he's just a just to eat up the final four Innings there but you get five earned runs so our Kenny's struggling out of the bullpen these days but yeah we bounce back Saturday Sunday I know I'm sort of going back and forth here a lot over the week not to recap trying to make this a little shortened podcast here but yeah seven of five being able to come back Saturday was nice and the bullpen did a pretty good job I believe as well uh let's see was it Javier in this game Javier only with four Innings 400 so Javier is the same four Innings foreign runs struck out five walk three but Mayton had to score this inning Graham had been a little shaky only got out and he gave up earned run he actually left that inning with first and third or actually the base is loaded and one out and there's actually got out of that so graven's line could have been worse it wasn't for naris Montero doing okay um I mean montero's numbers era creeps back under five seems like a miracle but or montero's been yeah they're it's sort of proceed with caution with uh Montero like I don't see Montero go out there and strike out players and you know have easy one two three innings I mean he'll have them here and there like this one was a one two three inning with a strikeout but uh Montero is more of a proceed with caution the way they're using him and I can I can deal with Montero the way he's pitched I I can't argue but I I I sort of hesitate to give people a credit especially like Montero because the minute I do that they you know prove that I should have basically but you know so I hesitate on getting players that have performed poorly credit if they start to look better a Bray you had a okay inning escape a hit struck out a guy his ER is under two third hold Preston gets his 30 to save winning Saturday today we sort of got our revenge from the Friday game because the offense scored eight runs in the sixth inning Kyle Tucker also first time this has happened I believe two triples in one inning it's a lot of first thing first times like first a lot of bursts in the Ranger series and then you had one here today but yeah they broke it up there in the sixth broke broke out broke it broke it open that's what I tried to say they broke it opened the sixth sailed to Victory JP France was better got the 111 and five to give you France's numbers here quickly six Innings four hits one earned run walked five that wasn't good struck out five got knitting and you're at September call up point so if the Astros are big you won't see their high level relievers but Joel Joelle Joel cunell got the final outs actually pitched the last two innings of today's game didn't watch a lot today I watched a lot of NFL football so yeah but all around good week and like I said Mariners got swept so we actually have a two and a half game lead and have a two-game sort of cushion that lost column which is the important one Rangers after losing on Friday the A's did bounce back with two wins so they're three games back but the Astros had the lead in the division finally if they can just continue to win games they should win like against Oakland against Kansas City they should be okay and they've reached their high water mark 20 games over 582 and 62. but yeah the schedule lightens up the hardest series they got going forward is at home like it's Baltimore for three a week from tomorrow but Kansas City Oakland Kansas City Baltimore Kansas City again Seattle can be tough there on the road in Arizona finishes up the season so we're got three more weeks to go basically but the Astros just do what they should do take care of business against the teams they can teams they should you know Baltimore they beat them two or three in Baltimore earlier this year now the home thing you know is kind of weird Astros are a better Road team this year by a pretty wide margin we'll see here but um yeah I'm just looking at the schedule here and you know Baltimore and about Not Baltimore Seattle and Texas had to play each other a few more times so I mean if they you know beat each other up that also works in our favor so but yeah and I'm looking here at the Wild Card which Texas is a half came out that's gonna be very interesting uh at the end there the Seattle Texas because they're right neck and neck and if they have to play each other I think six more times I think I could be wrong there but that's going to be a very yeah Toronto's played good baseball of late they've won three in a row eight of their last ten they've moved up to the second spot in the wild card in Tampa Bay is just head and Shoals Head and Shoulders above everybody else the old eight and a half game leads so they're obviously in I think the Braves actually close to the playoff spot today this is the first team to do that but they're 93 and 49 so but yeah all in all things are going well I can't complain um I know I sort of go through the lineup so I want to do that quickly here as well um let's see today altuva hitting 312 Pena 261 that's more like it Alvarez up to 301 he had two hits today in RBI bregment 272 eight more points get into 280 and then I can sort of give you credit Tucker 290 has been great Dubai 275 can't ask for more a brayu 238 Brantley 346 small sample size obviously McCormick 288 I mean McCormick and yandere ds23 look at how they pitch it a lot like kessinger came in for Pena Myers came in for Alvarez uh Dubai came in for Tucker Singleton came in for a bright you because the Astros breath after after that sixth inning they were they arrest a lot of their guys so yeah but yeah lineup's looking good I mean when this team's firing on all cylinders I mean the offense is deadly you know especially when people like Pena bregman and Abreu are contributing because you got Tucker you got Alvarez you got Altuve I mean it's still deep and you have McCormick hit in the way he is you under Diaz in the way he is I mean and you got Brantley backs I mean you look up and down the lineup it is you know when they're fully healthy and the guys are doing what you'd expect them to do then it's one of the best lines in baseball so in the pitching now there's issues with Javier there's issues with thunder Brown but I'm okay with Verlander Valdez is coming around obviously JP France I know he's struggled a little bit you know two of the last four stars or whatever it's been but I still overall trust him uh for the most part bullpen got a little I don't know he made times back but he's not solid I know great man's had some hiccups here and there but you do like I'm not huge on neris nerris that have a good you know getting out of the bases loaded one out Jam Saturday but Bray you impressed I'm okay with that eight nine combination I look at Raymond as more of a uh more of a coming into games where there's Runners on base one out that's where I see Raymond most effective I think he can do a pretty good job with an inherited Runners I think they try to do that with Mayton it didn't really work made time at the end of this is like filming time at the end of the day he's just a middling reliever he's not a setup guy he's not a you know here's a seventh inning give me three outs every night guy he's just a middling guy that can maybe get you through an inning here and there but every time he has a good stretch whether it's three four outings he comes out and he he gives up a few runs and then it's back to where we were that's what made sense have been since he's gotten here when they made this reform back in 2021 so but yeah I mean I don't hate Mayton I just feel like he can't give me I can't rely on him to get big outs late in games I'll just say that and I know greyman's had his his issues as well but that's why I seek ravemen better in inheriting Runners spots whether it's the fifth or sixth inning they use Montero in clean Innings to get through the sixth or seventh they'll use Mayton in a situation as well but it's a braillou and Presley eight nine every night in a perfect world so yeah I'm okay with the bullpen it could be a little bit better but I can't complain too much there starters obviously Javier Brown their issues until they prove otherwise their issues I'm okay with I just said it Verlander France and Valdez but yeah coming up here almost 20 minutes 18 19 minutes but yeah things are good overall like I can't complain with the Astros when they go five in the one this week so yeah and they got a good chance to do it again next week if they take care of business which is sometimes an issue for the team but you got three weeks three weeks here you gotta finish strong and try to you know get this division it's right there you gotta turn half game lead so yeah things are good I can't complain so yeah I'll write things up there we'll talk to you next week most likely back here Sundays are harder now just because I got football now but I you know was trying to squeeze this in to today and I got it done so I'm sort of looking at the schedule one o'clock games the rest of the way out well we'll see we'll see but uh we'll be trying to find times probably here on Sunday if all goes according to plan uh to continue giving the Recaps for the next three weeks and into the playoffs things will change obviously with more frequent um a little more frequent talk but we'll wrap things up there talk to you next week
