College Football Week 1 Thursday Night Takeaways And Lessons Learned!

college football week 1 Thursday night has wrapped up and we are hurting we had to have a 1:30 in the morning come to Jesus you were baking in your kitchen at 1:35 a.m. and I was trying to regroup and get it all back on San Diego State by the way shout out to the Spartans they came through for me late so that was San Jose State s damn it they come through for you and you throw them that disrespect it's horrible Vibes I'm cooked I'm I'm cooked for uh night two God oh what did you learn last night cart there was a lot of things you could have learned that hurt us hurt where do I want to start with this pain um let's see I think my main my biggest takeaway is that Travis Hunter and shadur Sanders are really good um Colorado is looking very similar to what they were though that that that defense is is Swiss cheese yes I I'm really torn on them I'm really torn on them because I think I might be falling for it again I think they had some bad luck to get where they got in that game it's a good point the interception was was wild like just give them three there or even seven like isn't it a completely different ball game if they doesn't three there not seven uh tell Shiloh Sanders to sh stop late hitting people so like right they you know I I don't know what he's he's on um but no it it was funny though because like everyone you would have thought Colorado lost I think the way people are approaching today and not like they you know they won the football game yeah they're always gonna have a lack of discipline they're always going to do baffling things like Dion is clearly a mess as far as like leading this group legitimately don't we kind of don't we kind of love that they play the game like we play NCA football like it's first and 10 we could run it and stop it but like I don't know man what about a fade yeah the thing is I love Messi like I love all messy things so like this this is good for me yeah he uh and he did actually answer the question at the podium so give him credit I thought he was going to kick people out who try to ask but uh he he responded to like what were you doing throwing on first down with a minute and a half left and he was like well I mean you got to take what the defense gives you right and the reporter was just like no he was like well I mean at that point in the game like we're playing for first downs we're not playing for for anything else and the reporter was just like why if you take a knee it's over he was like well no we're playing for first down and then he snapped into the classic Dion like well did you see how many passing yards we had like we we got one of the best quarterbacks in the country we we're very blessed to have that going on so maybe uh maybe don't worry about the Run we'll be more balanced later but we we have one of the best quarterbacks in the country okay let's be real about what was going on there somebody in that huddle or on that sideline had Colorado minus n and a half and wanted to take a shot that's the only explanation there yeah 100 perc and there's there's a couple options that could Dion himself could have had nine and a half who knows but that that's the only reason that they were thrown in that case but you know I I do want to talk about some other games it's not an all Colorado Thursday thing um I think NC State struggles were pretty pretty evident obviously really struggle with Western Carolina I think do you know what that line opened up at was it like 30 40 NC State was 32 and a half Point favorites and they were tied down to Western Carolina in the first first quarter tied at a halftime didn't necessarily like break away until the fourth quarter where they you know they outscored Western Carolina uh 21 to nothing but uh they were down early in the fourth too like this this was CL late that's what I'm saying it was a very close game and that that was obviously uh a result that was shocking shocking as well um in a in a night where honestly like a lot of teams just kind of handled their business like Arkansas won a game 70 to nothing uh a bunch of other teams just kind of just rolled over smaller level teams Illinois football was able to do that um so it was you know I I I think the Colorado game was fun obviously watching the star s like Travis Hunter go off and shadur Sanders but me otherwise like across like it was kind of business as usual like Missouri won 51 to nothing Utah won 49 nothing Kansas won 48 to3 it was it's pretty status quo yeah yeah a bunch of quick takeaways for me uh number one love college football we're so blessed to live in a world where college football exists uh I if you think about it we could have grown up in like like I don't know pick a pick a random like France we could have been French and we just wouldn't have this I mean I mean you have something something maybe like it no no like actually think about it if you're if you're you but French oh we we like we just we don't have this and maybe maybe you and I dial in where we're like on the the whatever it is the streaming site and like we we just tap into American football while being French but like the reality is we wouldn't care as much would we no and it's just something special about just being a 30y old man and on a Thursday before the holiday weekend I'm like you know what let me go see what these 18 year olds can do for my mood the Euphoria I felt when I sat back in the comfy spot in my basement couch for the first time with all four screens on with four different games on like that's what I will tell my grandchildren about it was beautiful I just enjoyed every second of it and honestly I'm sick that I have to go up North this weekend and I can't do that all weekend uh other takeaways from me I think Utah has my attention 49-0 against Southern Utah but I was tapped into that a little bit cam Rising five touchdown passes we forget that cam Rising is both very good and very old like I I don't want to forget that big 12 wide open to me this year Utah should be the favorite they are the favorite according to a lot of people but keep an eye on them for sure um College kickers I hate y'all I hate all of y'all I hate every single one if you sign up to be a college kicker I do not like you and no no respect to the UNC kicker no he was good but like this is my issue with college kickers and yeah I'm fixated on the North Carolina Minnesota game we got Minnesota's kicker who last season goes 23 for 27 on field goals hit a bunch of 50 yarders was on the L grza watch list like he was special last season misses a 20 Y and then misses the gamewinner hooks it I just he goes one for three Carolina's kicker goes four for four now Carolina's kicker is a dog he's special clearly he looked so calm and poised and composed but the fact that this game just comes down to like which 19-year-old kid kicker just locks in like that's that's why this sport is so insane and we love it for it but like it's a true coin flip like it's just a legitimate coin flip that Minnesota kicker was one of the best kickers in the sport last year and he stunk and he lost his team again and he wouldn't have even lost his team the game if North Carolina's kicker wasn't perfect like he could have just been good instead of perfect so I hate it I don't want it anymore I like there's no Rhyme or Reason to it I feel like you can do all the research in the world on like what kicker's good what the elements are what's going to happen and then like it just for whatever reason breaks the opposite way it broke my heart last night and then my last takeaway is this uh I I consistently want to keep reiterating college football coaches objectively stupid people across the board um now I think like they're probably every they're obviously a lot of different people there's are X's and O's Geniuses in the sport I don't mean to say that but more often than not don't you just flip games and find yourself being like what the hell is that team doing at some point yeah but you want to know what helps with it a little bit what at least at least to the Minnesota North Carolina game I'm like what actual like decisions am I expecting to be great from a guy that rocks the quarters it with the tie every game like are we really expecting that guy to just make the right decision every time I mean no but I I I feel for PJ this morning man it's the first time in my life I have felt sympathy for PJ flat because I in my opinion he did what he needed to do to get his team to win that game and then his quarterback's just fumbling like his kicker just can't kick like just it was a bazillion bad breaks he didn't have a star running back star running back is scratched 20 minutes before the game by the way can we get some more visibility on that I can't be writing newsletters on Tuesday and then your star running back crash 15 minutes before kickoff yeah not ideal It's upsetting to me deeply but uh part of the reason I'm going at coaches right now obviously Dion's thing was weird can we also talk about how Ruckers who was up uh 38-7 decides to go down in the final two minutes after scoring a touchdown four minutes ago and and pour it on rather than take a knee they like their running back was breaking tackles to get a seven yard touch down at the buzzer but then after trying to pour it on they were like oh no no no no we're not going to kick the extra point like which one is it are you playing so by the way this number ends up they they missed the spread by a half a point and they missed the total by a half a point because they didn't kick the extra point so I'm I hate college coaches they can't the thing is though they couldn't kick it why because that's doing that to an HBCU that's going to raise racism questions I think their action spoke loudly already that's all I'm saying uh I love college football and I also hate college football and that's why it's the best football season is here money
