Alabama just wrapped up their 12th pre-season practice as they get ready for the opening kickoff August 31st against Western Kentucky we're going to get into that one of the guys to keep an eye on Jam Miller why it's so important to have him as your star running back and we're GNA hear from him on the show not only is he a star on the field but this guy's a star off the field also Ryan Hollywood Williams continues to impress and then who's going to win that right tackle battle and what does it matter right one guy might start there and then another guy might slide in you know that's one of the toughest positions to play injury-free for the entire season we're going to talk Alabama football right here on the Bama tailgate YouTube channel like And subscribe thanks for hanging out with me practice and I'm going to throw up some film just so you can really get the feel of what's going on in Tuscaloosa right now I'm Mick Gillespie at broadcaster Mick on the socias and appreciate all of you guys for hanging out here on the channel uh at broadcaster Mick on the socials okay here we go man um first off 12 practices in the books and we're getting closer and closer to that August 31st kickoff Western Kentucky at Bryant Denny Stadium the official beginning of the coach dor era in tuscal and it's been uh from all intents and purposes a pretty good camp so far haven't had any major injuries haven't lost anyone for the season there's been some guys banged up but you're starting to see things as far as what this team's going to look like and I think that we we continue to hear how good Ryan Hollywood Williams has been Turning Heads This was a guy who came from Sahand five-star two-time Mr Alabama uh you remember the basically the process committed to Alabama when Nick Savin retired he decommitted Alabama ended up reeling him in he's been great helping Alabama recruit and this guy's been great on the football field and this the milro to Williams connection may be something that we see with this true freshman and you know one of the things that we've talked about and it's come from that first scrimmage is that the guy caught a deep pass uh him maybe one of the highlights of that scrimmage and then um Caleb Odum with a one-handed catch and then we're going to talk about Jam Miller a couple of touchdowns for Alabama he can catch and he can run as well but it's exciting to know that Ryan Williams is producing already for Alabama during this uh first camp that he's ever been in and that we're expecting him to really contribute now one of the other guys that I think everyone is really excited about and another Premier player that came to Alabama to uh basically to follow a tradition of success and and one of Alabama's greatest positions historically not just with Sabin but over the years is Jam Miller uh obviously running back and then Justice Haynes who I think those guys are going to split the starting role right they're they're different type of running backs but when I look at Justice Haynes I see a guy who is NFL everywhere he's got the size uh he he's got the moves he can he can run the ball through the tackles he can go around he can do so many different things on the field but I'm gonna tell you something listening to him talk man the guys the guy can do that too uh this is him talking about what it's like uh at Alabama and and kind of what his goals are right now uh I think a lot you know I took pride in on this summer uh learning the offense completely fully knowing what the offensive line is blocking knowing what the receivers are doing but also with my progressions learning different keys I can look at before pre- snap trying to win the pre- snap you know not just going out there and reacting as a football player but learning the pre- snap and just the mental aspect of the game yeah and he seems like a guy that gets the mental aspect of the game I mean you can tell just by sitting there listening to him that uh he's a really smart guy and it's exciting I mean honestly I I'm I'm super excited to see these guys and we're and us get a chance to listen to them talk a little bit more the nil one of the best things about the nil is it's opened up our ability to get to know these guys and some of these guys are are coming on camera and they're talking and you can tell right away that they're more than just football players that they're going to be you know if it doesn't work out in that they're going to do something else big and um you know in business or you know whatever else they get involved in and this guy just comes off with a great presence and it's exciting to kind of see that running back room with Justice and jam and and some of the other guys that they have now one of the biggest question marks that we have in this Camp is who's going to be the right tackle wilin forby or Elijah Pritchard right it's it gonna be forby or Pritchard um now one thing I do want to say is that that even this coaching staff isn't going to want to talk about the dep chart right I mean no no coaching staffs do and the problem is is that when you start talking about co uh dep chart guys are gonna get upset they're gonna Sabin wouldn't even let you ask about it right uh and you remember how fired up he'd get I I don't think that dor style is that way I just think he's just not going to answer the question because it takes all of these guys contributing to have success I mean think about how many injuries you have during the course of a season you're going to need both of these guys to really uh contribute but Nick Sheridan the offensive coordinator was asked about this battle and this is one of the biggest battles because I think that the offensive line is the biggest strength of this football team and having depth in that position is going to be really important and both of these guys are contributors and they're both going out there and getting it done but here's what he had to say about who could you know would eventually win this battle and we'll kind of chew on this here once we hear from Nick Sheridan this seems real simple but the guy that plays the best you know I mean the guy that plays well consistently in all areas um you know this is an unforgiving League we all know that you know you can't hide you know and so you you need quality play up front and so whether it's in the Run game and pass protection um you know I have belief in the players that are competing and now it's a matter of you know who does it the most consistently you know to the best of their ability and so that's what we're looking for yeah I think that's a fair assessment I mean I really do I think that's what any of these battles are about you know who's the person that's going to go out there and give you the best ability to do the things that you need to do and in that position group and I've I've said it constantly is that that is the biggest of this football team at least I I'd be shocked if it wasn't you know and and what could happen is you know you sustain an injury or two and maybe it's not anymore but I look at this offensive line the fact that these two guys are battling it out the fact that Proctor came back Booker I mean you you know brailsford you look through there and this is a great group and this is a battle but just because somebody wins the first game doesn't mean that somebody else isn't you know if Formby wins game one doesn't mean that pritchard's not going to play game two but it's also really delicate to deal with this stuff because you don't want to lose any of these guys and with the transfer portal guys could just get up and leave whenever they want so interestingly enough uh I thought that was a really you know clean answer and uh one that made a lot of sense to me so we'll continue to watch that and um you know we'll see what happens when it comes to Alabama as they move forward they'll have practice the next couple of days with no media availability but when we do get it we'll send it to you and we'll talk about it and get you ready for this kickoff guys get in the comment section tell me what you think through 12 practices going into number 13 what is the biggest concern that you have about this football team I'm I'm feeling a lot more comfortable about the defense as we get further and further along knowing that the linebackers seem to be a strength that the safeties are getting better uh and that the pass rush has been there right and that you got a lot of talent at the quarterback spot so and and you got a couple games to figure it out too before you head to Wisconsin you know you figure those first two games are going to be tough but they're but they're winnable games I just feel like that these the offense is going to set the tone for this for this team early I think that they're going to score points they're going to be tough because if you make a mistake and give up the football they're going to be able to jump on you and and score points fast and then you know of course I'm doing you know cover Crimson now I do a show every day you guys know this with Clint lamb you can watch it at cover Crimson on YouTube and then of course the cover with Kane wck is an attacking style that forces turnovers and the offense could get the ball back pretty quick in some of these games and as explosive as they are they could turn in touchdowns pretty quick I mean this team could probably you know score two or three touchdowns in a minute or so you know depending on what the defense does so the the style is going to be one where they're going to put a lot of pressure on the quarterback and that may help the secondary as well just because I don't think that that this is that style that's just going to let a guy sit back there and pick you apart big sexy Elmo is not with me tonight he's on assignment he'll be back tomorrow and uh we'll do the uh the section with him tomorrow as we roll
