fight or the r parts we watched were so gallantly streaming and the rockets red glare the bombs bursting in air gave proof through the night that our flag was still there oh s does that stars fangled yet wave for the land of the free and the home of the bra the president of Idaho State University Dr Robert Wagner good evening please be seated as you all are welcome to Idaho State University's spring 2024 commencement ceremony Idaho State University is proud of the men and women who serve our nation as members of the United States armed forces would our student veterans and all other veterans and military personnel in the audience please stand and be recognized thank you for your service at this time I would like to introduce the platform party here on stage with me we are fortunate to have several special guests joining us this evening please stand those who I will uh call out and remain standing as I call your name I ask the Craig chatrian Vice President of University representative Dr Diane oela and this evening student speaker Miss Tristan maffy master of counseling c a candidate please join me in welcoming these guests and thanking them for being here today [Applause] I would like to emphasize how happy we are as a university community to congratulate our graduates and welcome their family and friends on such a special occasion on behalf of all of the faculty and staff at Idaho State University I would like to say to our graduates that we are very proud of you you represent the very reason why our institution exists you are the focal point of all of our efforts although I see many graduates here today I know that each one of you has an individual and unique story each and every one of you has been on a journey that brought you to this point no doubt you faced a few roadblocks along the way but you persevered and arrived at a very important Milestone your academic achievements the degree or credential you earned will Now launch you onto A New Path with new destinations indeed your future is bright you are not here by chance or coincidence you are here because of your hard work grit and and tenacity AB uh Abigail Adams once said learning is not attained by chance it must be sought for with order and diligence I also know that many of you did not arrive to this point alone but with the help and companionship of others along the way today we celebrate you and them so for all of you take a moment and enjoy the achievement you did this we want you to take time to celebrate your success in Revel in having arrived at such an important destination however I remind you that the road does not end here in fact the very event where we celebrate the conclusion of this AC this academic journey is literally called commencement meaning a new beginning believe me that was not a mistake life is full of countless Journeys and destinations what is truly ESP special about today is that you go forward or commence On A New Path with the power and transformational influence of Education as Oprah Winfrey said education is the key to unlocking the world a passport to freedom I remember when I received my first passport flipping through all the blank pages and imagining all the Exotic locations I would travel to and the stamps that would cover the pages as a result I believe the number of stamps I obtained on those pages would represent how effectively I used my passport that is not all that different from your education you are leaving this ceremony today with a new passport and countless blank pages how are you going to use it what stamps are you going to receive what are your future destinations for some your passport will take you on to additional schooling and I as you would be happy to have you back for others the stamp will represent a new career job advancement or personal growth and accomplishment the destinations are endless the point is not necessarily where you go as much as it is that you use your passport to Journey forward collect as many stamps as possible use your education for good to transform form the world as it has transformed you this is the power and transformational nature of Education it is about bettering your life and by bettering your life you also have an opportunity to make the world a better place and you do that by using what you learned here do not leave empty pages in your new education passport lastly remember that it is the process of achieving your education or journeying through life that brings the greatest satisfaction as it has been said life is a journey not a destination your educational journey is now part of who you are and what you are to become next remember as an ISU bangle you have been taught to let your voice be heard to use your actions to create impact and your experience to set an example and to do all of this with a mighty Roar congratulations and Roar Bangles Roar and now it is my distinct honor in pris privilege to introduce your 2024 student speaker Tristan [Applause] mcafe one of the missions of Idaho State University is to foster a culture of connection and belonging within our community and to inspire our community to develop and maintain an equitable and inclusive environment for all through support Outreach and collaboration in other words we are asked to be kind connect with and support others regardless of our differences this kindness connection and support is something that Bengals succeed at in my time at Idaho State University I have witnessed my classmates lifting each other up again and again I have seen students sitting close together in the hallways working on group projects I have seen them laughing together to the point of Tears the sound echoing through the building I have witness students sharing their hardships with their peers and being met with a sympathetic shoulder to lean on we have cheered each other on through projects presentations tests internships rotations and lure and we have lifted each other up through heartbreak loss illness burnout and despair we have gotten to know each each other and we have loved each other despite our flaws we have shown each other what it is to be kind to connect to support and to love this is what I love most about being a bengle the kindness and compassion that we have demonstrated so well during our time here should not end as we exit the hallways and classrooms of Idaho State University they will serve you well as you enter into your further education or future careers they will serve you inut future relationships big or small after all as American lawyer writer and orator robbert G ingersol said We rise by lifting others whatever is next for you whether it be further education or a career your kindness and compassion will take you great places as I close I would like to extend a special thank you to my wonderful parents siblings best friends and to my sweetheart for loving and supporting me when I thought I'd never make it through this program and for pushing me to do my best your love and support mean the world to me to my class classmates and my mentors who have cheered me on and believed in me even in the hardest parts of this program thank you to the class of 2024 congratulations we did it now go on with kindness compassion and love and show the world what a bangal is made University is also proud to have our longstanding partnership with Renaissance High School which tonight results in the 12th graduating class of Renaissance High seniors comprising 81 students who
