What's Next after Riley Leonard? (Duke Football 2024 Predictions)

hey everyone and welcome back to rank and file Sports and today we're going to be hopping right back into our Series where we are predicting every single power four teams record by the start of the college football season today with the Duke Blue Devils but first real quick I just want to make a quick note about the channel uh we have decided to make the videos a little bit shorter instead of talking about every single individual game more in depth because at this point we have already done that for almost all of the games um if you're looking for a more indepth prediction of a game uh that'll be found on the other teams video that they are playing from this point forward um just to try and shorten the videos a little bit so let's go ahead and get into Duke's predictions the start to the season is pretty easy with a home game against Elon and a potentially tricky Friday night matchup on the road against Northwestern now Northwestern isn't expected to be a very good team in the Big 10 but they have some experience they should be a decent team they don't really have a home field so it's hard to say they'll have home field advantage uh but this game should be really close fun one to watch for sure Yukon at home and MTSU on the road should both be pretty easy wins for the Blue Devils to finish out the non-conference schedule starting off ACC play kind of difficult these first four five six games really are all going to be really tough for Duke North Carolina at home it's classic college basketball rivalry in college football it doesn't mean quite as much uh but these two teams still don't really like each other North Carolina is definitely the more talented team here um so it's going to be tough for Duke to pull this one out at home Georgia Tech being on the road is also going to be a tough game for the Blue Devils Haynes king and the yellow jackets are going to be a pretty solid team this year um they should be shooting for above a 500 record and probably are pretty likely to achieve that coming out of the bye it doesn't get much easier with Florida State and SMU at home Florida state is the better of these two teams but SMU is also pretty talented joining the ACC this season and they're going to be a tough team for Duke to beat two road trips follow that up against two more strong ACC teams Miami who is on the rise this season they brought in cam ward in the transfer portal and look to have a pretty explosive offense this season especially on the road it's going to be really tough for Duke to keep up in this one same thing kind of goes for NC State this one is probably just going to be a game where the wolf pack outscored Duke I really just can't see Duke keeping up with them in that game following their second bye Virginia Tech another pretty solid ACC team A lot of people are really high on Virginia Tech this season um and it should be a close game given that Duke's at home but Virginia Tech should still be able to come away with the Victory and then finally the easiest game of the year as far as ACC play goes is going to be the last one of the year with a road trip to Wake Forest the Demon Deacons are going to be struggling this season much like Duke so this game should end up being pretty close it'll be tough to win on the road but if this does end up being Duke's only a chance for an ACC win this season that should give them a better shot so overall has six home games and six away games and even split there with three of their opponents being ranked in the rank and file top 25 those being Florida State Miami and NC State which gives them an overall scheduled difficulty of five out of 10 moving on to our actual prediction for the Blue Devils uh we do have Duke starting off the season with a win over Elon however dropping the road trip to Northwestern as slight favorites now the main reason for them being favorites I think is a lot of people are just really low on Northwestern but we actually do like the wild cats to get this early season win following that game we also like Duke to pull off a couple back-to-back wins with Yukon MTSU and a small upset over North Carolina now like I mentioned this is going to be a pretty good North Carolina team but they're going to lose a couple games that they shouldn't we think one of those is going to be the game against Duke after that the ACC schedule gets really really tough they aren't favored in a single game until that last one against Wake Forest and we actually do have them continuing their long road skid with a loss there at Wake Forest as well which brings the Blue Devils record to 4 and eight now adding up all of these percentages the projected record does sit at 6.3 and 5.7 so it favors them potentially pulling off a couple upsets and making a bowl game fpi likes the same thing 6.1 and 5.9 just barely in that bowl game range but only a 2.7% chance of making the playoffs and if we're being honest that's just really not likely for this Duke
