Auburn vs Cal: Post Game Reaction

warport family we are live the final game is over Auburn loses Falls to California Golden Bears 21-4 in Jordan here falling to one and one on the season we're gonna talk about it joining me is Dylan Lark I'm gonna go ahead and I'm gonna go first Dylan let let you collect your thoughts I know I'm reading people's comments there's a lot of frustration with QB playing what we saw rightfully so rightfully so there's really only one person that we should be disappointed in and want answers from and that's the head coach you can't blame Philip Montgomery and this was the QB that you doubled down on this was the guy that you said that you believe you can win games with in year too you got a new offensive coordinator you put the right you got went out and got receivers you did all the things to surround your QB you come out in this game and you just got out coached just got out coached on both sides of the ball I I like the adjustments that DJ Durkin made at the half Auburn came out much more aggressive Mendoza be to look really regular once he got some pressure on him and that stopped a lot of the bleeding which enabled your offense to have time to get back on the field obviously because California is out executing you they're able to pin you deep you not you're not even comfortable with where you are to where we have to now start running the football not mad at that but even then when it comes time to throw the ball Cal just pins their ears back and there's nothing to counter Punch or counteract the pressure you have to understand that they're going to bring pressure now on pton Thor in obvious passing situations just got out coached out executed the turnovers is that six now ESPN keeps going back and forth but I have six turnovers I believe because that's five interceptions by pyton Thorne and the fumble bar jarquez we turned the ball over six times I have five on ESPN did I five they're showing five but that it was five before pton Thorn threw that last pick it was showing a total of five so I'm not sure five or six either way too many too many we clearly Auburn clearly loses the turnover battle against Cal there's only one person you got to hold accountable for this if you're mad at pay Thorne if you're upset with pay Thorne be upset with the guy who double down on him and I'm pretty sure this is going to be a tough postgame presser for Hugh fre because he's going to be ask some tough questions I'm eager to see how he responds but this is on Hugh frees in the coaching staff in all facets all facets Dylan go ahead yeah uh I mean I I mean at halftime I came out and I said maybe it's too early to start the conversation about making the switch a quarterback but second half came around pton Thor thre through three interceptions yeah and I don't know of many quarterbacks that are able to go into a weak with after throwing one touchdown and four interceptions with their job still intact that's a bad work day and that's bad enough to where you might lose your job I can the offense did not look any different uh when it came down to it they had a drives where they went down and scored a lot of those yards came from penalties against Cal uh I I the the loss was not on the refs but the refs W didn't help much either but this game is solely on the offense and they tried to make up for it at the end but they tried they tried I apped their effort for trying to get Al back in the they tried to help they they gave us more offense than uh certain people did yeah I think I think we got more yards there at the end do the refs D than we actually did uh there's something about the fact that we heard all off season long how confident Hugh frees was in this running back room and then we we walked out on the field versus Alum A&M and we were oh we can pass the ball now and that was just a a smoke screen to how much this team does not want to run the ball I cannot believe that cam Coleman made that catch got hurt and then no no one told him to go down no one try to get him out of the game and then the next play they c a deep ball where where Cam Coleman was the main Reed and that interception was it underthrown yes I can put some of the blame on p on pton Thor for that pass but when your when your main deep threat is hurt tell him to go down do something get him out of the game don't just I yeah I just this press conference is gonna there's gonna be almost like they kind of gave up yeah the the effort was not there after a little bit I this press this postgame conference is going to be wild and hre is gonna get a lot of questions about the quarterback room going into this week after week two after week two yeah we have we have q QB get in here man what what's your thoughts I told y'all I told y'all last year I told you in Spring too he's the same dude you get the same dude some better toys the same dude for INT it should have been five they took one off the board because of a penalty same dude I don't know if I'm more upset at Hugh freeze not pivoting at all after last season of pton thorn the one person who had the ability to say no I've got to get something better I don't know if it was money I don't know if nil investment was the issue but I know that better options were on the table I saw Miami dismantle Florida dismantle behind some very good quarterbacking play might I add of Cam Ward I don't know if he was too expensive I know that whatever we're paying pton Thorne we just got one touchdown and 4.5 interceptions at home and this is where the magic happens though right this is where a six win Auburn team takes Alabama the SEC Champion to the wire this is where that happens on that Hallowed Ground we got beat handily by New Mexico state handily by a lower tier group of five team and then honestly very convincingly by Cal cuz it's not like they did a lot in the second half broke a big run defense have been on the field all game all game they shouldn't have to be on the field that long because the offense should be holding possessing the ball moving the ball and scoring points they couldn't do it so instead what we got going on is very a very mediocre quarterback who Hugh frees insisted he could make look better this year so we got one game of everybody being hyped up and everybody was saying this is the old PT this not the old PT this is just Pon Thorn one game of him looking better is not he wasn't new this that wasn't a new pton Thorn that was just the old pton Thorn doing a little doing a little shimmy see the old pton Thorn did a little shimmy they like oh he's new no he's not same guy he Learn To Shimmy off in off season yeah that's it so for game one he he did a little move everybody like oh look it's different no it's not it's not different it's the same dude the question was always not can you take a mediocre quarterback and make him look better with enough stuff around him the question was always is this the best quarterback that we can put out there after last season and after the Maryland game it was pretty clear the answer was no this is not the best option for Auburn University to have a quarterback so the spring comes he like no this is what we're doing okay you can you can make it look better hey you finished that recruiting class that we we put together okay then we're going to see if it was really about the talent all right I saw one guy missing open wide receivers not pulling the trigger on other open wide receivers I saw one guy throwing four ints at some point listen one or any I one int can be the fault of anybody you could have pressure on you somebody push it alignment in your lap alignment is bearing down on you Aon throw tip off the hands of the of a wide receiver that can happen to anybody that'd be great if that was just one and that was the only interception he threw that was not the only interception he threw right there may have been some communication issues because of the way he was where he was throwing to it spots it looked like the wide receiver wasn't going that way I don't know if that was inaccuracy or a bad read on his part a bad read on the wide receiver's part hu freeze I'm sure will tell us some of that and some of that can be gleaned from from the breakdown when ik does the film but I hope that we're past this idea that Payton Thorne was always going to be the answer here he was never going to be the answer here and anybody who was actually watching the games last year knew that he was not a good quarterback could he be a serviceable one was the question and we had hopes that he could that was the hope that was the hope could he be serviceable maybe and then he threw four ints and we lost at home to a team that I don't know if they finished off for 500 last year uh they had the same record as with us six and seven so they went to a bow game yeah yeah we probably outmatch them in Talent player for player probably 10 out of 11 positions on each side of the ball and we got beaten soundly at home I'm embarrassed I'm short on some money I actually bet on us to cover for the game $50 I'm never go to see again I just I would feel worse if I really believe that he was like oh no this is the quarterback that's going but I never thought that I was hoping he could be better than he had been but I think we can see that we've got serious issues at quarterback I don't know if you start warming up Hank at this point I mean I'm sure he'll get asked you will get asked and then we'll get some answers and we'll get to think about that and talk about that for a while but I was never convinced and I'm sad that we didn't go get somebody better in the portal but we got to work with what's on the roster so let's see what you does me I think you got to save your recruiting class because you gota this this year two was the year you show Pro proof of concept on field yeah I don't know how you show proof of concept with what we said he has six interceptions he's averaging three picks a game wait what averaging three interceptions a game right now well two 2.5 I say 2.5 because they took away they I'm talking about all the six turnovers but he's averaging two interceptions a game he's averaging two picks a game two I will say I don't think this takes it feels more like a a forcing into the proof of concept because of the amount of force balls down the field because of the lack of the Run game at certain points of the game because you're trying to get the ball deep to a visibly injured cam Coleman it feels like you're trying so hard to show off to the com to the recruits that I still don't I'm still not going to believe the fact that Auburn's goingon to struggle recruiting after this I think this does more for Duce Knight than what we're seeing because I think he's still going to look at the quarterback room like dang this is a very talented team cam Coen made some plays uh kls made some plays even though he's gon gon be here for a year I mean the proof of concept is still there in in the sense of all they can see the talent on the team but I mean at time the offense it offensive line needs to be a heavy emphasis now going forward in recruiting Andrew babalola please you will start immediately if you commit here uh it just I don't know I I I see a lot of comments where I kind of scroll through I see people were kind of saying it's gonna take tank our recruiting class I don't think it does as much damage J no no no we're not talking about one game not talking about one game no no no what I'm saying is there has to be some pivot either in your approach to how you how you game plan and prepare because again they got out coach on offense they got out coach they did they do Cal was just blitzing up the middle that wasn't nothing exotic that wasn't anything they just were sending more people than we could block it looked like Gus for a minute because pton was just there I don't again film review I don't know I don't know who was open if he just overlooked but if if Cal has been sending Defenders more more Defenders than you can block and Peyton is just back there holding the ball waiting for someone to get open no screens no short passes no nothing to counteract that we be anyhow coach it also comes down to there's something I kept seeing with the team it was the the complete Reliance on the play action pass when the offensive line is getting pressured every play and you Give Up On The Run game you can't call play action if you're not going to run the ball there there does seem to be an overc commitment to showing everybody the tools that we have in the tool belt like we've got to air this thing out we've got to look impressive we've got to show the recruits willing to throw this thing that's great if you've got the trigger man to do it and again I think it's fair that everybody had questions on if pton Thorne could beat that last year Hugh free said no no no he can't can all right I mean it's not like we get to vote you the coach you going to recruit you going to coach them up so you make the call and it I I don't think this was a big brain mathematic equation that only somebody with 30 years of coaching experience could see even at times last year where Payton Thorne if I if I if I take into account that um the r OC last year Phillip what why can't I think of his last name Montgomery Phil Montgomery if what he was calling and how he was running the offense was really the biggest problem of last year which is something that Mike has said after he talked to pton th and other people like well Philip Montgomery wasn't really doing exactly what he freeze wanted him to do okay I let let's say that's true even with that being the case when you're between the numbers and you're playing ball if I scheme up a wide openen dude it doesn't matter if you don't like the way I coach you it doesn't matter if I didn't go over uh the fundamentals in this way it doesn't matter if the way we rep it and practice is something you don't like I schemed a wide openen receiver or tight end or whatever it is and you have to hit him can you do that like the noise kind of Falls away once you're between the lines you call a play and I see the play there to be made and when I attempt to make it I miss I get my players hurt I get my tight end's ribs cracked because of of they have to reach and extend something that we saw a little too much this game not throwing it in stride to protect the guys who are catching the ball we've seen that from him now everybody want to say maybe it was the system maybe it was the coaching last year okay I still don't think that that should be an excuse but if I'm going to take you at at at your word I can see how a bad boss can make your job more difficult and more stressful than it has to be I think we can all relate to that poor management even if your job isn't that bad your management being bad your direct supervisor of being bad how he runs things how he makes y'all do the tasks that y'all do that can make your job more stressful than it has to be and it can have an effect on your work performance so I was willing to give that Mulligan to pton Thorne just like a lot of people were let let's see what it's like this year going to get you better wide receivers I'm going to upgrade everybody's computer in here it's getting a better computer and everybody can take an extra 30 minutes for lunch and I'm paying for lunch and we all going out to the restaurant we not just having lunch in here we not doing that everybody by that uh little C pizza for lunch no we're going to the the the buffet down the street on on the company okay that's how things change they talked about how much better the locker room was this year right the locker room was supposed to be a difference as far as the the positive attitudes everybody buying in four interceptions better wide receivers supposedly uh a more cohesive coaching strategy more byy in four interceptions against probably the worst power four team we will play this year this was the worst Power four team that we're gonna play this year I don't know if Arkansas is decent everybody looks better Arkansas looks a little better that's the worst team we know vy's better they coming with the they coming with the the big Joker that that got us last year looking better already with a power five win that they couldn't get last year where do you find wins this year where I'm I'm I'm concerned I I think there was a fair reason for questioning Payton Thorn last year but you Hugh Freez man this is on you you said this was a dude that's my point what I'm saying is what I'm saying is at this point I don't know how you continue with what you've been doing and get a different result there has to be some pivot yeah I don't know what that pivot is but it has to be a pivot yeah your pivot options are let me see here uh Hank Brown holding Garner or Walker white there your pivot if you want the if you want the fan base back because you're about to get a whole lot of whole lot of noise let me let me start with uh let me start with one comment here actually we we have we have uh Mike G joining us live from the field I know you hurt yeah yeah people can't wait to see Mike Mike are you ready he gives me the thumbs up bringing Mike in Mike G tough day at the office for Auburn here uh obviously this was a short presser what what what did You observe in the presser and and what did you observe overall uh can you guys hear me okay yes sir yeah a lot of disappointment uh I think Q frees understands that this offense did not do the job today um look uh in the first half we were pretty adamant like look I don't know there were a lot of people on social media blaming pton Thorne for what we saw but I want to be clear that second half was on him uh it was yeah it was on him now uh you know he free took like maybe five questions in the post game today uh felt like a lot of the media did not want to ask questions if I knew he only going to take five I probably would have asked him some more questions but guys this was a different offensive game plan that they came out with than what we saw last week versus Alabama A&M I did not understand uh what they were trying to do he knew earlier in the week that they were going to load the box and try to stop the run and he said that you know in on in the Monday presser uh and that's exactly what they did they slowed Auburn down and they went to the pass game uh Thorne delivered on that first drive you know uh when they went down marched down the field for a touchdown um but I want to underscore how many different receivers caught passes last week and at halftime the only receivers that had caught balls wide receivers let me let me stipulate were Keandre Lambert Smith and cam Coleman now that first interception if you're cam Coleman you you you're brought here to make that catch he's a young man he's gonna be a star here at Auburn uh but that's a catch you got to make learning moment for him the other three interceptions the guys were really hard to defend um you know so uh not a great day for you know at the office for pton Thorne the last pick for cam Coleman uh yeah I'm talking about every pick thrown in the second I'm talking about the one with Cam Coleman though I I know of the four you there's one he tried to throw to cam Coleman deep that got picked off yeah like he it hit cam in the hands and it ricocheted off and it was intercept oh okay okay you about that first got the first the first one you know that's on cam uh but the other three definitely on Payton uh look guys you know at the end of the day um I think there was an expectation after last week that this offense would just be better um and that the play calling would be better and and quite honestly it you know for much of this game it looked like a lot of the same yeah you you you you upgraded the talent uh you know you went out and you got new coordinators and this look eily similar to what we saw last season so you know he's got to get this fixed I feel like a lot of the issues were systemic but you know um I'm I'm having a hard time going out and saying oh well the guys got to make plays and they got to execute uh you know pass protection was lacking I think that that should be a worry for the rest of the season uh he said that he said that you know we could not pass protect and Payton was under a lot of the rest trying to go down the field and make something happen uh you know and I agree with them it just seemed like Cal did a really good job mixing it up on defense uh dropping back into coverage at times and making it difficult on this offense to operate consistently now uh I I do want to underscore and and this is by no means an excuse but there were key calls in this game that definitely stalled out drives uh there were a few pass interference calls that definitely should have been called one on Robert Lewis running down the field he was clearly grabbed and tri they didn't call anything that stall that Drive uh you know and uh I don't think this was a well afficiated game and when it's tight you know that can hurt you now if you're Alburn you got to be better than that you have to be better than letting those things be able to affect the game the way that they did uh that didn't happen today so it's quiet here and and look it was a great turnout today it was a great environment to start today um the white out looked amazing but behind me you have a massacre this is a Battlefield where Auburn got massacred in their own house by a team that they are absolutely better than so uh you know I'm reading the comments here this is yeah like I said a lot of disappointment I think in the building today where does Auburn go from here Mike in your opinion uh because obviously we we talked about what the floor was and I think you know we did boss toss and loss and I think in everyone's boss was Cal I think one person may have put him in the toss one I think may have not Dylan but uh Dustin may have put him in a toss I think y most people had this as part of Auburn's floor where does Auburn go from here with Arkansas in two weeks coming not looking forward to up updating my boss lost toss graphic with with the actuals um but where you go is you go into assessing pass protection and quarterback look you know get I mean yes they did not protect kton Thoren great in this game but look man that you know with just under three minutes left in the game Caesar and no timeouts but plenty of time to draw to to to drive down the field and tie the game he threw an interception that he absolutely cannot throw as a guy who's been in college playing football for five years right right that ball that he threw up to cam Coleman was bad and I get that you know H fre talked about catch radius and having wide receivers with catch radius um but he turned a 5050 ball into an 8020 ball for the other team that's what that throw was and and look man we see something different in the stadium sometimes that you guys see on TV I try to have the game up on my computer so I can see a little bit of what you guys are seeing but even when I went back and looked at that play it was it was bad it was it was not good it was a bad ball and I don't think it was reasonable to expect cam Coleman to go up and fight for that one it was underthrown the DB was clearly underneath the pass and it ended the game effectively right was hurt on that play too well that's what they were saying like Ike was saying that people in our comment section were saying that like that he was hurt and and so again I question the player rotations in this one guys we didn't where was Malcolm Simmons in this game right right now I mean when they did put him in and and they got the ball to him instantly up the field for like 11 yards but we didn't see the young guys that they had on display that you went out made a big deal about and I question it because earlier in the week I asked him about Malcolm Simmons starting over Robert Lewis and he said that's because we had a certain play call then you sent Robert Lewis out there and and and I hate to say it but he was a non-that for most of this game so you took options away from Payton Thorn essentially I you it didn't look to me we got to go back and iel do great watch the film on this didn't look like he was getting a lot of separation or getting to a point where he was you know a threat on most ples but you Shrunk the offense essentially they went into 12 Personnel late in the game guys there was a play where you had Luke deal on the field and you guys know I love Luke great person but he didn't catch a pass all last season and I'm thinking ralo's not in the game L's on the field cam is hurt who are you throwing the ball to this was a little bit of mismanagement on the coaching part uh I may upgrade that from a little to a lot you know tomorrow after I had a chance to go back and rewatch but you know this was a little bit of coaching malpractice they have time to get it fixed and I don't want to go all super negative for everybody who's watching I see we almost got a thousand people here on this post name uh but you know Auburn's got to get it turned around quickly uh look the schedule doesn't get any easier from here and we talked at nauseum about the importance of getting these first four games now you dropped one and Arkansas you know they ended up losing but they look better than maybe that we thought now suddenly that do look like a boss game right if you going to Oklahoma two and two yikes man so you this season could come off the rails and so could this recruiting class that everybody's heralding so um they've got proof of concept is so important and I think you know he he understands that You' got to continue to prove it uh and show recruits what they could be playing but this was disappointing man I mean this was a power five opponent that you know left the conference they were in they were not that good in record last year and they came into your house and you you let their quarterback outplay you and I can't I I'll tell you this nobody wants to give him credit but I'm gonna give him Mendoza played the first half of his life right uh it was not just I mean he was throwing dots out there guys for that first half and and you have to give him credit for playing such a good game uh you know because ultimately look at the numbers alurn didn't give up a ton on defense defensively uh they scored 21 like C scored 21 points off of turnovers I put 14 of those points on the offense I expected them to give up seven which is exactly what they gave up but you gave them a short field twice and they scored and I think without that you know alurn maybe wins this game so offensively they have a lot to answer for and and where they go from here Caesar is you go back to the drawing board and you rethink everything you rethink the Personnel groupings you rethink the quarterback you rethink the offensive line which we were told was a was was a worry and the you know you know moving Dylan Wade and Percy Lewis and Tyler Johnson around well caught up was today yeah you know dark West Hunter still averaged 5.7 yards per car the problem was when the offense became no threat to throw the ball it got really tight and he still was able to get him you saw pton Thorne be dangerous with his legs at the time in this game they just couldn't do anything consistently caught up with him and and they still had the ball under three minutes with a chance to tie and send this game to overtime and ultimately they could not execute when it mattered at what point I'm G ask a tough question Mike at what point does Hugh at what point does you have to listen to the voices for a potential changeing QB hey yeah it's funny the strike up the band for Hank Brown there have been a lot of people in our community have said they think you know by Arkansas Hank Brown would be starting I wasn't there those people are are running a Victory lap today yeah yeah yeah like they're they're louder they're getting louder by the minute um I think if you're Payton Thorn you got to H out and you got to have the game of your life next week versus New Mexico um and you got to hold on for zero life to try to hold on to this job because he free doesn't have another year for you to get it together and you don't even have another this is it for right so um look man the Hank Brown uh uh crew uh look man I mean you're right they are taking a Victory lap and you know if you're H freeze you got to be able to go to him at some point because you know what those deep balls that didn't have a chance today Hank Brown gives cam Coleman a chance he's got the best deep ball on the team now we and we've said that despite how well I thought Payton would play this season Hank ball has the best you know late in the game I thought even maybe they might try going to him because they knew they were going to have to throw it deep and uh you know like I said Bree same seems content to take the L here and stick with it uh but we'll see if that resolve sticks going into you know the following weeks and to keep Hank Brown at Bay you have to play really really well next week or I think come Arkansas you've got to consider a QB change you know and and you know that may that may seem uh um Brash to some people uh but again you don't have time you don't have time like you know this was an experienced guy that you got in the portal and you needed him to come in and play well and you recruited him because of his experience because he was supposed to get you to that place where you could get a freshman QB and develop that guy and it has not happened to this point so I was all for Payton Thorne um and I think you know I I don't I don't see benching him right now but I'll tell you what like that leash is going to get real short here come next week if he doesn't have an excellent game well does a does a big game against Mexico really keep his job like any closer from losing it because I I we were just getting done talking about this week how great he played against Alba ANM and I mean I can go ahead vouch I felt confident about him going to this cow game but I don't know if a New Mexico game for pton Thorne really settles my my fear of the quarterback position oh yeah not yours right but the question is how is f frees going to look at right and that's the question want to answer right and in his mind the line had a lot to do with how pton dor played today so if you're Q freeze and you convinced yourself that there were other factors outside of thorn that contributed to you know what we saw particularly in that second half I'm not saying whether it did or didn't then you are giving him the next and you are letting him roll into Arkansas right I think the excuses evaporate you know after Arkansas maybe but like I don't C fre pulling the plug on pyton Thorne after he put his full weight behind him this off season he did not go after a portal QB and people you know ended up praising him for it he said it would be different I believed him uh but ultimately you know it was a mix of thing again that second half is on him but maybe you're not there Dylan if the game plan in the first half had been better which I'm not sure I'm convinced that it was uh you know they again they pulled the plug on everything they did well last and they went back to a 12 Personnel package with tight ends on the field who are no threat to catch the ball somehow we've minimized raldo Fairweather to glorified you know second and nine guy right like I I don't like it was last year all over again at points Mike agreed agreed and so you know this was supposed to look different and as soon as they came out I had questions I was like dude what are we watching you ran a ton of 11 personnel last week and and you had Perry and Malcolm on the field I I'm telling you I question starting Robert Lewis after what we saw from Malcolm Simmons last week I do I question not putting another Jan breaker because look man Robert Lewis is a solid wide receiver but after today I'm not sure if he's an SEC wide receiver Malcolm Simmons definitely is so I you know again you know sometimes you got to get to that desperate point before you pull the plug and put the most talented players on the field because he seemed to lean with experience and again you don't happen that you can't go six and seven again this year if you're freeze you absolutely can't man you got to find your way to at least seven wins and maybe eight but boy let me tell you something this puts this throws a lot of cold water on the bug that we had going into this one again I'm not going to go negative nany on everything just yet but um you know like they've got to get it fixed here I think this week and they need a strong showing versus New Mexico and you got to beat Arkansas you got to be three inone headed into Oklahoma or Oklahoma's going to come in here and they're going to have the time of their life and they've been look the last few games versus Oklahoma on neutral sites have not gone well for all mik G appreciate you man taking time out to talk with us uh you will be going to run through these as quick as we can Stephen Neely appreciate the Super Chat he says safe to say we all bought into the hype from week one performance clearly this team has much to work on but was this performance bad enough from pyton Thorne to give Hank Brown a look at qb1 before SEC play again I I'll say it again not a lot of quarterbacks can go into a week with a one one to four touchdown interception ratio when able to walk out of that with their job intact still I don't know if Auburn makes the switch but the the conversation has to be had with the coaching staff the ey test Stephen I would say you have to begin the lease is shorter for sure I just think that because everything was so bad today that unfortunately this coaching staff in a sense bail pton Thorne out in a sense I know that hurts I know you don't want to hear me say that but the game plan was not like this offense looked like 2023 and we didn't even see we only saw one of the new or two of the new everything's not going to be perfect we're not in the middle of a dynasty where we've been dominating recruiting in college football for three or four years and nine out of 11 positions on our our roster on each side of the ball are just stalwarts that we can count on to be elite day in and day out that's not the situation we need somebody who's good for what we are right now which means better pocket awareness can get rid of the ball more quickly and is accurate when they get rid of the ball like that's what what we're asking for here and yes you can do a better quarterback can do that Under Pressure it is not impossible to expect a quarterback to be able to make quick reads and accurate throws because pressure is coming or he is under pressure pressure should affect you and make you play worse it's supposed to that means the offensive line isn't perfect oh my the offensive line isn't perfect but that does not mean you have to be throwing four ints and getting blown out with terrible offensive performances against Cal against Maryland and against New Mexico state that that that is not the black and white hey either everything's Pro level around you or or you got to lose have a shot at the job right now what you're looking at is if this QB play continues Hank Brown's going to get elevated quickly because you can't afford to have this wide receiver core in here and have a quarterback playing like he did today these guys will leave and that great recruiting class that we've been ha for the last 9 10 months will be out the door and will be back at square one as far as wide receiver Talent he can't afford to have bad quarterback play with this talent that we have on this roster right now he will have to make a switch if we look bad going forward and that will Elevate Hank Brown and that gives Hank Brown a distinct advantage in a quarterback race for next year so if you're Duce night you're going oh I can maybe play my way in if everybody starting a ground zero in 2025 yeah but now if the the quarterback doesn't play well somebody's going to get a leg up on you because they will have the opportunity to play in real reps SEC football this year and he could excel in that situation so Hank could jump up show us what he's got it'd be impressive we win some games and now all of a sudden everybody else is just jockeying for number two in 2025 and I got targets outside of Malcolm Simmons who got that one you as a if I was a five-star quarterback I'm watching this game and I see that there's a lot of Talent on the field in the offense but there's someone struggling to get the ball to so I is that opportunity B I wouldn't panic I would be concerned about an old Miss trying to get in on a recruitment for dece KN um the only thing that I would say I would push back on is Hank Brown would be in his third year at Auburn and if you don't win the job in year one he'd be in his third year right that would be his red shirt sophomore year because he red shirt his red shirt sophomore year but that'll be Deuce Knight's freshman year right right even if you are are a prodigy of a QB it's rare that kid sees the field in year one which means by the time he's ready to compete if Hank Brown is the real deal Hank Brown will either be going to his final year or he'll be gone assuming everything goes right so I still think you can still talk you can sell the future to dece Knight even if that happens with the Hank Brown that'll be my only push back there I wouldn't be so concerned about that because Hank Brown would already have been on campus twice and he's playing so if he's actually being productive and well I don't see him writing out his whole eligibility I'll be surprised if he does that true you know I mean that's true so again I
