iRacing Season 3 2024 Darlington Raceway: Guide to Qualifying and Race

what's going on YouTube it's Adam Garza I'm back at it again with another track guide um hope you guys are having a good Daytona week thus far because I'm not uh up in Michigan watching the race with race live so if you would like to check that out shoot him a file it helps the both of us out a ton and yeah we're going to get this video going uh next gen's at Darlington should be really fun week uh hopefully the feel kind of gets spread out so you know when you race it's all about learning your tire manipulation uh how to get track position and uh Darlington was one of the very first tracks when I first started Sim racing to where I had to learn that so um this is why this track is kind of special to me just because it taught me the most and uh let's get on to the video here this is what you're going to start off with this week it's going to be 236 plus five same cylinders little bit lower break buys now darlington's a track where it's going to where your knowledge of the race car is really going to benefit into your result in the racetrack so in my personal opinion some people like to drive with the offset to the right but me I go to 264 pretty much every racetrack I go besides rad courses the steering offset a net difference of seven so I'm going seven to the left seven clicks to the left to go toga -2 from positive 5 degrees I really had no issues with the cylinders I think they're pretty good for this track um and we're going to turn the break bias I like to start at like kind of like a flat number so like 44 even 45 even 46 even any track I really go to so the round the closest to here to 44.6 is 45.1 so basically 45 flat and this gives me enough leverage to the left and the right to where I could if I'm tight on Corner entry I'm overdriving I could always turn it down and if I'm loose I could always turn it up so 45.1 and digital dash page as two always Darlington Q's one of the sketchiest qualifying attempts on the schedule just because of the nature of this track so the first lap you just want to keep the tires at temp you don't want to fill too much seat into them but it's too slick on the first lap because of how abrasive this surface is so shifting a fifth gear setting up for your lap down shifting to Fourth stay up against the outside wall then you want to turn down the racetrack so you can get that straight exit off in the Run be careful of the seams it's going to be slick stay in fourth gear stay up against the outside wall and in a turn one you want to get as low as you can to this dotted white line out of the gas almost wide open come out of the gas again get the nose pointed careful full sketchy sketchy shift in fifth and you want to wrap the bottom in three and four downshift and Trail break stay discipline discipline easy input it's going to plow a little bit oh we plowed a little bit causes some lap time but not a terrible lap it's a 29.2 27 I definitely think pole this week will be into the low ones mid ones and high ones and based on track condition and how the wi direction is depending on which Lobby you load up I won't be surprised if you see a flat or an n in there but most of the time I think it's going to be in the ones you see my optimals and 1 n my best was a two flat given this track temp which is 86° so it's track positions definitely definitely important here on the short run but if we do get an opportunity to get strung out I think you could start in the back and make Headway so we're going into turn one now in turn one this is honestly one of my favorite corners in in the NASCAR schedule I absolutely love it it's super satisfying when you do it right so into turn one you follow my mouse right here you're going to want a straight entry and you're going to want to clip this dashed white line you don't necessarily want to hit it but you want to aim for it this is going to create the big diamond in the corner that's going to maximize your speed so into turn one right here we're turning in let go of the gas all the way you really don't need breake as the nose is going to settle in the corner and the car's going to turn itself self so let the no settle in and as you can see right here right when I'm clipping the dash white line here on the bottom I'm about 30% throttle you like follow my Telemetry nice and easy out of the gas then nice and easy back to the throttle because if you go back to the throttle all the way the way how this surfac is the car's just going to loop around and you're not going to make the corner and then you kind of want to keep your wheel at that same degree so I would say about 11 o'clock about 10 11 o'clock you really don't want to turn down in the corner and wrap the bottom because you're not going to carry any momentum so you want to go right up against the wall I'm wide open right here for a brief moment and then I'm coming back out of the throttle as displayed right here and then at this point of the corner I'm coming out of the throttle all the way so this is really driver preference now given this Q I'm right up against the marbles right here this is how close I am to the outside wall so the wave next gen likes to drive when the nose you let go to the gas all the way the no dives into the corner and the car rotates itself so this is what I'm doing here because if I'm staying 25 20% throttle I really don't get that self turn so this is all driver preference some people like to qualify like this where they kind of keep it at 20 25% throttle so they don't feel that loose sensation but the way I like to drive the car here is I come out of the gas all the way at the second apex of the corner I lost a little bit of time here cuz I didn't get back to the bottom cuz I plowed a little bit so make sure you get back to the bottom right there off exit because you want to make your exit as straight as possible now if you would like to use a reference point there's this Goodyear logo right here for Q I wouldn't recommend it for the race because there'll be a lot of stacking up a lot of checking up and then as the Run goes on you're tires build more heat you're going to have to keep backing up your entry so but during Q if you would like to use a mark I'd say this Goodyear logo on the wall you're going to downshift see my inputs here nice and easy downshift blip into fourth then you want to get to that white dash line on the bottom and you're kind of you're going to want to Trail break this corner on entries you can see I'm about 10% to 20% break here all throughout the entry because if you just roll the car the car's going to slide up hit the fence you're not going to carry momentum the way you want to right here stay discipline discipline and then come back to the throttles you can see I'm wrapping this line but if you rush it too early as display here you're going to plow on exit and you're going to lose lap time so I kind of get it tight kind of drifted up just maximize the track space and that's a q laap at Darlington so make sure that you're staying disciplined you're staying patient and you're hitting your proper shift points and especially the line here is very important so all in all just make sure you're hitting that line all right on to the race portion of the video Darlington race is going to be about taking care of your tires nice and easy little brake tap there to get the nose rotated but like i s q big diamond come all the way out of the gas nice and easy you don't want to hurt your tires here shift in fifth now this is where the best separate from the rest in the turns three and four as you can see I enter there very low wrapping this white line right here it's going to be about believe it or not on the short run you could get very loose by hitting that seam there's three distinct lines but two that that stick out to me you can downshift into fourth and you could just wrap the fence all the way around but be careful of these seams cuz late in the Run oh man be careful not to self spin on these seams when you cross them over with your right sides turns three and four right here now this is the prop line down shift from the four just like you want to stay disciplined but you want to lay a little bit more be careful with your throttle input and don't over rotate the car because you have the tendency to build really tight here at Darlington if you over rotate in three and four so all in all right here in three and four kind of want to get down be careful of that seam to the right just be really patient really disciplined so as we can see here on our little run we're 9898 but we are 213 208 it could go either way but more than likely especially for run an NIS you are going to build tight and it is going to plow so make sure you take care of that right front and on the short run just be careful of self- spinning when you're Crossing those seams Darlington should be fun um in the cup cars at least NIS is always a blast here um it shows like the real skill and drivers in my opinion is Darlington and overall racecraft so I hope you could take a thing or two from this video and have a great week at Darlington and enjoy the the
