MLB Network | Pedro Martinez reacts to Francisco Lindor bolsters 30-30 pace as Mets def. Red Sox 7-2

so I had a buddy in Boston text me he's like why'd you spend nine minutes talking about Francisco Lindor in the freegame show why think we know what we're doing Francisco Lindor remains one of the hottest players if not the hottest player in baseball the Mets win 72 it's Greg with the guys Curtis Granderson Jimmy Rollins Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez Jimmy I'm telling you the guy knows when to step it up and he's been running it for the New York Mets let's just get right to him you want to chat with franisco Lindor there he isan good to see you I'm here with Jimmy Curtis and Pedro I I got to tell you you just love the leadoff spot what is the human psychology behind that you have taken off and now you're an MVP candidate batting first in the Mets lineup um I just love to get the momentum going for our team and it's been it's been working out you know I feel comfortable in that in that position and I'm only leading off one time um a day so I take a lot of pride in that take a lot of Pride and posting up and try to get the game going for the guys or or give him at least scatter report and what I see um how we attack Lindo congrats on a great night this ised listen describe for me how how much of a joy is for you to lead by example to a team that we all disqualified literally in the first half man um I love what I'm doing I love to be able to post out day in and day out I take a lot of pride in that um the Lord has been blessing me with health to be able to show up up day in and day out and help my team um I just want to be one of those guys that whenever he all set him down is remember as a winner somebody that just gave everything they had and on and off the field man I'm good brother hey man and Pedro said you know we all just figured that you guys had no chance we were saying to to sell the team you know just just get rid of everybody but what we've from you since going to the leadoff spot not just what you mean as the first B of the game getting the thing going but your leadership it seems like the team has finally taking on your personality you finally showed up like this is who I am I'm comfortable let's go boys talk to us how that has changed for you Jim me I'm just trying to be like you dog like you no I mean it pretty much like it's I'm just doing what all you guys did you know you all said the pay for me and I'm just following you know I get to show up and play a short St for a New Year Mets which is one of the biggest blessing in my life and I'm just enjoying enjoying each day at a time um just enjoy tonight's win and then come back tomorrow and focus on what we have tomorrow Francisco congratulations this is grandy here your season obviously is going great what up man enjoy it keep doing your thing out there but your season's been obviously on top of across the board not only are you stealing bases you're hitting homers you're playing solid D you're batting average from the the left side and the right side are almost identical for you Francisco watching Mr Lindor out there what have you enjoyed most about your game is there anything you're trying to accomplish and finish up before the end of the season consistency just stay consistent um that's all I want to do be the same person they in and day out on and off the field um have quality of bats help the team win at the end of the day that's all I want to do I want to win ball games and um put this this New Year manal getting station at the very top I know what you're enjoying MVP those chants are nice man those are nice chants Francisco Lindor of the New York Mets congratulations big night thanks for your time okay Le appreciate you guys very proud of you very proud of you thank you thank you yeah Drake I'm with you man he is locked in and I love what he said Jimmy he's like I was trying to be like you see this 2024 season he's putting together it looks a lot like 2007 when you won the MVP with the Phillies you know uh it it was something that was needed for us then it got the organization back on track we ended up winning the World Series the following year and had a good 5-year stretch and everybody needs that person that they can identify with and it's whether it's their personality the way they approach each each uh player on the team when they're struggling how they react when they when they have a good game a bad game how they react when they win or lose are they a positive person and he has all those things he has a smile there's a joy to him playing a game and we saw that loss it was lost let's just be real he did not have it it was not there not the joy that we saw him have in Cleveland but he seems to have it back he's always had that million wat smile he's a good looking dude playing a goodlooking position and a team are finally followed him in New York I mean he getting a little slice that Apple I I I think you you're right about that and a lot of that has to probably do with the kind of manager he has and and different kind of uh I I would say space given to the players because Lindor was always that same characteristic guy with the same attitude smiling great player posted every single day but I don't think he was granted the the space to be himself and take the team with him to be like him that's there there there's a different Dynamic and teammates that he had there also but you know what he now he has mature long enough where he can say this is the way I know to success and and I think the rest of the team bought into what Lindor can do and and now they have an identity it's the Lindor identity everybody Smiles everybody hustles everybody po every single day I think they're doing a great job at allowing Lindor to be that leader inside the clubhouse outside the clubhouse when they go on the road and I think it's reflecting on everybody in the team as you saw today the joy that they have is totally different than the one they had uh a year before four or two years first half of the Season really yeah the first half it was just maybe a carryover or not having the opportunity to play together like they are right now and also Health it's a big issue and and now they're healthy and they're they're following the Lor OMG and MVP kind of chant they're going to be he said he only leads off once and technically that's true but it feels like he always kick starts the scoring for the Mets and and that a betat that two-run shot that was their first hit hit and he cashed it in for two runs and it's amazing because not only is he leading off at the beginning of the game but throughout the course of the game when he's up in big spots it's still a chance for him to be the igniter to set the tone you have a runner on right here you finally are starting to put a little pressure on if we can go ahead and attack this aat and get one across the board it can go ahead and make things good for you you go ahead and get a pitch up in the zone in a hitter's count and he doesn't miss and he's able to get it out of the ball put his team up two nothing right there but as the game continues to go on and he continues to get himself in the spots where he can bust it open he's able to do it even though he is leading off only one time a game and to add to that yes you have one lead off the bat but when it goes one through nine and nothing's happened you're up again who are they win to ignite that you you're the so lead off is is a term yes it's a spot in the order but a lead off means you're leading the way if we have nothing going we're relying on you to get something going cuz when you get going we follow and that's what happen so he's right technically you're lead off hitter once the very first to bat after that if nothing's happens and you don't get a hit right there then it goes back well who's going to pick us up because you didn't get it started trust me it's pressure that that that's it's a joy to have and when you're doing it right when you're on like he is right now oh my goodness it's O chills as you guys know when to have a magical season you need to have that pleasant surprise the guy either on the mount or at the plate that you didn't expect to have a magical year David Peterson Pedro is morphing into that guy for the New York Mets he had an RA over five last year his ra is now sub three on his 29th birthday he punches out 11 we were talking about the pregame show is K Pan's under seven he has been a godsend to the New York Mets and you know what every time he pitches the team win and and I think the team really understands the value of this guy this guy's been durable he's I I always like him you don't find lefties with this kind of stuff tall lengthy this is a guy that's really difficult he looks like a tougher bat against righties and lefties and watching the Red Sox lineup today against a lefty like this that they have never seen hasn't been exposed to the Red Sox gives him even a better chance to win and and this guy's been doing it consistently probably the best for the Mets yeah uh they got a great outing yesterday out of srino on his birthday what a way to go out and and strike out 11 give them a win and now go get some cool Gregor he deserves it I'm a over I'm a over to gregoras and if I was by him I I I'll be with him I and you know what's crazy about it even though his KS per nine or low you see his he has swinging missed stuff and he pitches at the top of the Zone which is amazing to see he like how is he only striking out only six almost seven a game every pitch that was up in the zone They had no right so he's got it there it's like okay let me add and subtract when I need to do it and he was adding it when he can I give you a little answer his pitching to contact the the the last few years that we have seen him he was a little bit erratic away from the strike zone now he's stressing his stuff he's doing what he needs to do he's attacking the strike zone as you could see uh perfect match up for him tonight the Red Sox de is is just coming back struggling a little bit the rest of the guys have some home in there some of them are young and Duran who's the toughest probably out out of the lefties is a lefty on Lefty and and when you compare your staff you're not afraid to engage and and that's what he's been doing and when he finds a team that has a lot of lefties uh especially with holes he can he can manhandle those kind of teams he reminds me of Bruce Hurst who pitched in the 86 World Series for the Boston Red Sox against the New York Mets he's 66 Lefty Y and Bruce Hurst was 6'4 but lot lot of kids don't know that is just Google them and go to baseball h r s now the Mets began the day I have te back it has been processed normally for is for I for that's
