"NY defense is Trash!" - ESPN GOES CRAZY New York Giants loss to Commanders 21-18; Daniel Jones 2 TD

welcome into Giants postgame live presented by hackin sack Meridian health keep getting better my name is mine Burke alongside the Super Bowl champion ammani tumer and ammani the Giants went to the nation's capital for a week two matchup with the Washington commanders and it was a 30 yard field goal As Time expires that secured the win for Washington 2118 is the final score it's tough to see when you look at a Washington team putting seven field goals up and that's enough to get them the win against a Giants team that lost Graham GNA their kicker on the opening drive yeah it's a you look at it and you think you know the Giants had opportunities to win this game but then you got to look at it also is how well the Giants played in the red zone defense and forcing the forcing Washington with for seven field field goals uh keeping them out of the end zone and uh there was a lot of players on defense that really you know stood out you know Drew Phillips is a guy who stood out you know the fact that he was real physical made some really great tackles down the stretch es and um you know coming off of last week's performance to this week's performance you saw a marked improvement in the overall team chemistry and uh you know of course they didn't win which well we all would want but the fact that they played and there used there's a much better brand of football that we're looking at now uh than we were looking at last week yeah it's tough to see though leaving three points on the board with no extra points earlier this week Brian dable said Hey how do you turn around the production of this team from week one to week two he said score touchdowns the Giants did that they scored a touchdown on the opening drive of the game for the first time in 27 games snapping a 27 game streak the longest active streak in the National Football League so getting touchdowns getting in the end zone three different times you got Devon single ter getting in the end zone you get Malik neighbors getting in the end zone you got W Del Robinson scoring a touchdown but unable to go with the extra point because of grem gano's injury Jamie Gillan attempted the first one it didn't go so they went for two each of the subsequent times yeah that was a real uh towards the end it really started to show its head because the fact that the Giants were close enough to maybe kick a field goal there but when Malik neighbors dropped the ball it was they had to go for it on fourth down which probably ordinarily would have been in field goal range so all those type of things you know aren't very good especially when you lose your kicker on the first play of the game that really puts you in a hole most of these games end up being three-point games at the end and the fact that they uh just didn't get an opportunity uh to get those extra points to to to take advantage of the fact that in the Red Zone the Giants were scoring touchdowns and Washington wasn't the fact that we don't have our didn't have a field goal kicker made it so that it was a mute point didn't kind of evened itself out right because in the fourth quarter you're driving down the field if you've got your kicker you're in field goal range you're going for it instead on Fourth and short Daniel Jones throws to Malik neighbors his 18th attempt of the day and neighbors just sure doesn't come down with it you saw as the commanders were driving down the field in that last Drive of the game how dejected neighbors was on the sideline but that doesn't take away from the game miat at his first 100 yard game uh as a receiver as a in just two games in how long did it take you to get 100 it took me about four yard four years to get uh a 100 yard game and he really looked dominant today and Daniel Jones for all the stuff that he's been taking uh for his performance last week came out and had a really solid game uh 16 of 28 with uh two touchdowns 178 yards the most important number zero turnovers he played well enough to win this game the Giants probably should have won this game and hopefully they can keep on this type of trajectory to keep on to be more competitive than they were in week one well one thing that we said in week one was hey all offseason we've been talking about the Deep ball we didn't see that in week one week two we saw a few attempts they didn't quite connect on those but he was sending it downfield and consistently going to Malik Neighbors on that play they've seem to develop already quite the chemistry but attempting the Deep pass what do you make of that I think it opens up the rest of the field for everybody else I think uh you know he had NE neighbors had his first 100 yard game but I felt like there are some areas where he can improve on of course he's still a rookie in his second game there's a lot of upside to him I'm really excited to see what he's going to turn into towards the end of the year I think this is a good learning experience for him and for him to learn at at playing at such a high level it just makes you understand that there's a high ceiling for him and really looking forward to see what he can do once he gets some more experience once he gets more comfortable uh in playing in the NFL yeah League neighbors 127 yards and a touchdown on the day but from the passing game to the running game The Run game was going as well dein single T nearing 100 he had 16 carries 95 yards and a touchdown of course that touchdown on the opening drive of the game of you want to see the Run game going we've seen a lot of success from running backs we in 26 in Washington great to see that continue today yeah when I look at uh his game today um single ter the fact that you know he had that fumble but the fumble was a you know if you look at the rule book as it is currently right now it is illegal for a defensive player to physically punch the football and if you punch the football it's supposed to be a penalty because if you miss the punch and you hit the player it could cause it's a player safety thing I don't know why they if they don't want to call it then take it off the books but right now it's on the books and that should have been a penalty uh you cannot punch at the football because if you know just like I said before if you hit somebody that could cause a fight or something like that so when you look when I'm looking at this game it just frustrates me that uh it's not the the the the way that it's if it's not if it's you don't want to call it then don't put it on the books which is fascinating because we were watching the game and you mentioned that play is illegal none of us actually believed you and actually looked up the rule book yes it is and it's you know it's got a cute name the peanut punch famous for Charles Peanut Tilman who made that move famous but I think you know we see it happen a lot it is not actually a legal move but the refs didn't call it and the Giants had to to kind of play on giant sounds like sour grapes but you know it's still if it's on the books you got to call it exactly rules are rules people uh rules are made to be followed the Giants defense though Giants defense especially in the Red Zone held their own Washington of course having quite a few uh penalties in the red zone that didn't help them but also the sacks you know five sacks on the day after last week having just w today though it was all DBS and linebackers getting to the quarterback including Andrew Phillips who was a co-leader in tackles the young rookie uh a lot of success from some of these young guys on defense M yeah this is one of the younger teams in the NFL on the on the defensive side of the ball and now you're going to see games where they're going to play exceptionally well and they're going to live up to their potential then you're going to see games where they underperform just because of their their inexperience so now you're seeing a team with a lot of Talent with a lot of ability it's just they have to get used to the defense get used to we have a new defensive coordinator so all this typ all these types of things are are are going to take place and we're going to allow our uh you know there's an upside to this defense is what I'm trying to say yeah 37 minutes and 32 seconds time of possession for the Washington commanders they had the ball for quite a while Bend but don't break as the giant tell them to seven field goals on the day uh in the Red Zone 21 to 18 is the final scores the Giants fall to 0 and two we'll continue to break this one down but Giants fans thanks so much good stuff from Paul and Howard back in studio mine Burke and ammani tumor and one of the things you know Howard pointed out this is a very different team looking than than we saw from week one uh but of course Washington's penalties you know Washington shooting themselves in the foot and the Giants unable to fully capitalize off of that today yeah they were unable to capitalized but the the the brand of football the overall you know tenor of this team it was a loss but the loss was like I said before it was a much more competitive uh performance from this Giants all uh Team both offensively and defensively and you have Shane Brown a new defensive coordinator you got to kind of it takes a while for defenses to really understand the defense coordinator what he likes what he doesn't like and when it comes down to time where where the game's on the line what does that defense coordinator are going to call to have that confidence it takes time so remember we won the Super Bowl in 07 we were 0 and2 so it's this is not the end of at all there is a lot of football left especially now when they have an extra game with 17 games so I think there's there's optimism because they played so well of course you want to win but the fact that Daniel Jones looked so much better than he did the week before and I think a lot of people were you know burying him and putting him under the under the bus he is a a legitimate quarterback he played well today with all the chips are down I think it shows to his character a lot a lot of people can play when everybody is on your back telling you that you can't play so I got to give it up to Daniel Jones for his performance today you know drop away from winning the game putting the ball right where it needed to be with Malik neighbors um just didn't come up with it but I think I think the Giants have a lot to build off of this of this uh near Victory absolutely Daniel Jones heard the criticisms earlier this week he said Hey listen I get it uh and I'm not going to take it personally because I know I want to go out there and do better and he did just that this week giants still took took the loss 218 to the commanders
