Dodgers pregame: Dave Roberts talks Diamondbacks series, Freddie Freeman plan, Tyler Glasnow & more

[Music] so say the question what's hard to win um world series for sure without a doubt see all right it's more important stuff FR frean how you doing yeah that's another that'll be another and I'm going to be very bullish on that Point all right Freddy Freeman um he he's doing better today um he's told me that the finger still broke so that hasn't changed um but he's going to my my expectation is he'll play tomorrow and then uh again we'll kind of run the play and see if he's available tonight Off the Bench is this something that you think you're going to have to kind of keep an eye on just keep a conversation with him day by day just to make sure he's good to go um I don't think so I I think that once we uh take this little rest bit for 3 Days 4 days with the off day um we're just going to turn them loose and um hopefully over time the weeks to come it'll start feeling a little bit better and be less uncomfortable but you know once he's back in the lineup I don't expect him to come out how much do you believe that the finger affected him because he only had three hits you know um it had to have some effect um I I don't think that he would cop to it um but but you know he says it didn't affect him swinging there's still some pain when he throws but as far as taking ADV bats um he said it didn't really affect him so I'll take him my his words I know on you have to win all these games and they count but how much of him sitting out this series was as much about him being ready for tomorrow and before games that was part of the math um I I I think that you know the Hope was if we can get them uh from working every day to play as far as the hitting uh the workload with the finger um his swing wasn't right um I think that's a common thought you know where he was at how he was swinging the bat so to have something linger over the course of the next 6 weeks didn't seem like the best um way to go about things so if we could sort of play the slice and get him off his feet for a few days and hopefully kind of let the finger calm down and then get them back in there and and kind of reset do you expect him to have B of A wrapping on it uh moving forward or uh no that's more of a a healing uh Aid what's kind of I mean like I'm obviously no doctor like you know I assume it's like 3 4 days I mean it doesn't become like unbroken right right exactly exactly I I think it's more of you know you're either going to take four to 6 weeks which was not going to be an option or you try to hopefully let the kind of the initial pain uh discomfort maybe dissipate a little bit and so that's kind of the thought because yeah I'm in a fracture takes four to six weeks to you know over the next what is it the last month five weeks of the season when it comes to kind of winning ball games and kind of prioritizing you know having everybody healthy for October how do you kind of balance those two things it's I think it's Case by case um I think that you know there's a a Fredy Freeman situation and we talked about that there's a Daniel Hudson situation we talked about that yesterday as far as trying to give him a week to kind of recalibrate hasn't pitched over 50 Innings since 2019 um and again trying to figure out to win games in the here and now with the players you have available but not Redline guys so then they're still healthy and and strong and and Performing optimally um you know as we get through September and October so again that's a case by case and talking to co coaches the players themselves and the performance and training stuff do you look at tonight like when Arizona and San Diego already lose and then this weekend series like do you manage these games a little bit differently knowing you can open up a bigger division lead right now um I I'd like to say you know actually not I I think that there's some guys that we're probably going to try to stay away from in the Bull Pen um and if it were October we they would be available um um so I don't think so you know um you know Max is not playing today where I want him to play six in a row through Arizona so you know with the guys that we have available we're going to do everything we can to win tonight um and that's you know irregardless of what happened with those other games I know I know you said recently that you're not sure if it's good or bad but you guys have been pushed in the division um now the rest of the season um can we so like what you learned about your team as they sort of had to fight while at times pretty short-handed like what are the traits that have showed up that you think are good that can help you in October and what are some of the areas that you've seen that like all we need to sh that up if we're going to do that I I think um you know and I say that a little bit in Jess as far as we don't know if it's good or bad because ultimately the result at the end of the season will be the narrative on what was good or what wasn't good right um I I think the thing is that when you're playing meaningful games um the little details the small things within the game matter um we didn't make a couple plays last night that fortunately we dodged the bullet to win a game um whereas if you have a 10 game League they're not as pronounced um I think that the focus on each night um from each player coaches is more enhanced and all that stuff just makes you better and so I guess in a vacuum it does make you better because there's the margins are smaller and um the lead is so small and so in that thing it's it's a no Briner does make you better yeah and Dave any word on how y Moto's feeling today after making this first Rehab start yesterday and is the plan still the same for him the plan still the same he feels good came out of a good and I would say five or six days from now he'll make another start for the OKC team and you know hopefully get him to pitch three Innings and then do a fourth in the pen and then like I said yesterday we hope have that conversation if the next one would be with us um so that's all contingent on obviously how he's feeling but um as I understand it really good sign from yesterday so are you guys popping someone in for some um that's probably going to be the case um don't know yet who but that's probably the thought yeah be a option for that he's an option yeah okay over the years you kind of talk about it every game is important throughout the season but for a weekend series like this when the other teams be pretty fired up to tell you guys is there something you got you want to see out of your team just as extra gear no I wouldn't say extra gear I just want to play good baseball um and I think that's that's the uh the bar the gear that I'm looking for and to kind of sustain that um I I think over the last two weeks I don't know what the win loss is but I think that we're playing good baseball and um those other two teams are playing even better baseball or or winning more games um but but I'm pleased with how we've been playing and I just want to sustain that you know till the end of the season when you're at tight is it any differ you're being chased versus seeing us chasing for you guys to Wi when you were chasing the Giants all the way through um I I think when we were chasing you're doing a lot more scoreboard watching um than having being able to control your own destiny um so I'd rather have it this way than chasing a team so that's still up to us it's still in our control any update on glass now Tyler is going to play catch tomorrow and then you know our hope is that he feels good and then he can repeat that on Saturday or Sunday but the throwing program is going to kind of uh you know start up again on Friday there is kind of some urgency to kind of get going there is there is that's there is there is and I haven't kind of looked at the outgoing plan and and where that puts him on September 30th so um it's contention on how he's feeling and how the buildup IS but there's certainly urgency you know given he hasn't thrown a baseball in however many days and you know get to the end of the season yeah I mean at this point can you be certain even that he's going to hit you again this year um we're hopeful I I think hopeful I think that there's still some a lot of variables to be certain but I think everyone in the organizations hopeful is it something that if the pain doesn't dissipate like can you try to push through it a little is there risk of making it worse is just the nature of what he's dealing with that you guys kind of figure out you know what Jack I'm not sure about that one um I I do know right now you know when you're starting up you're probably looking for pain free I think that's probably the start no but it's a fair question though just considering it's about to be September and I know you mentioned Tyler that's just sometime you kind of reset how important is just I guess early September for you guys to get whether it's players's time to recover body wi just to be ready for the long yeah um you know we're we're um we the schedule is is good right now for that um there's a 10 game I think 10 game stretch where you know I'll be mindful of that with some position players with with uh the guys in the pen uh we're going to get two extra players so that's certainly going to be helpful um as far as the workload and you know I think the biggest thing is just kind of looking at the starters and and kind of seeing who we're going to get back and how you going to plug those guys in but you know the guys that we have right now Gavin Clayton they've been fantastic they really have Dave bruar did a pfp drill where he had to get a speed a couple times yeah I I I missed it but I heard it was really good uh it seems like you could have stolen a base tonight so how he recovered from what we saw a few weeks ago to now uh I prayers were answered and uh that's a good thing um so he's just going to keep progressing and I I don't know when his uh time to return is but today was a good day for br you know if say GL now Yamoto right whether those guys come back or not I imagine that could affect the way he used a bullpen and upover uh and given that like does kind of that uncertainty change at all the way you manage the bullpen over the next five weeks no um I I think that we've got enough guys that I think we've done a great job managing their workload and I understand that you know in totality the bullpen is used a lot but as far as individually the workload has been where it needs to be uh for each individual um as far as the starters we'll see how we end up and how what the roster looks like but we still got to win games right now so that's uh that's our Focus D is on govern back in town uh as I understand he should he should be back tonight yeah were you surprised like at how well that dog shock shock do you think he hires a trainer or is he like a good dog you know what I I from what I heard secondhand I think he worked with him for three weeks so I was shocked still in shocked I heard you know I visited his high school coach years ago and supposedly he was a good swimmer really good student I can see the the butterfly seen anything that he's like bad at um no actually he lost the contest last night on the shaking the thing some do he doesn't win in everything thanks guys thank you than
