Dodgers adjust plan with Tyler Glasnow; Tony Gonsolin begins rehab assignment

[Music] Tony godson shine today Triple A start looked great came out of nowhere be before we even look into it did you even have him on your radar at all no no and and I'll be honest with you I still don't um he's not going to be in the rotation he he would be a bullpen piece at if if something does happen um I would not count on it but it's very promising so far like because he does he's going to factor in next year I mean imagine let's just say let's just play a little fantasy baseball here and let's say Okay Glass now Yamamoto Otani let's say they can sign flarity that's four guys and now there's a there's a fight for that fifth spot and you got guys like Gavin Stone and Landon Knack and Tony gonin you know who knows what happens with Kershaw uh who knows what happens with berer who knows where Bobby Miller fits into all right like you have a a huge battle for maybe that fifth spot and that's that's great and if gonin is the guy who wins it then then more power to him um but I I think the fact that he is now putting he's going to end up putting himself in that discussion no matter what whether he gets back and pitches for the Dodgers this season or even even if he doesn't I think what your you're going to see now and let's say you know he'll make you know maybe a handful of starts or so uh it's going to be it's going to be us talking about you know throwing his name into that discussion in the winter time and I think that's a huge positive because the guy's been an All-Star before you know he's he's a good pitcher so I like it uh again I would be surprised if we see him with the Dodgers at all u in any capacity but the fact that he's back out there now very promising I like it yeah definitely I mean for me it came out of nowhere I mean I'm so in tune with you know a lot of prospect stuff uh I lean on Blake and Matt a lot for Rehab guys you know guys making debuts and Triple A stuff like that you know how those things are going and I kind of you know Blake would have kept me in tune there but you know Tony gonin tonight uh goes to Innings throws 32 pitches 75% strike rate five whiffs uh three punch just allows two hits scoreless so no walks he's pounding I mean he's going out there for seam let's see four seam cutter you know his patented Chang up mixing a curve uh and then and tosses a sinker but you know velocity readings look good um as far as what he could be for this team that's still TBD and how they view him can it be a multi- ining weapon is he gonna get enough whiff like if he maintains that like definitely like if there's something if it's not Landon Knack uh if they feel like Tony gonlin is a better option there that's the kind of role that I would say is it going to be a piggyback guy is it going to be someone with you know Tyler glass now if he doesn't have enough to get a full yeah Orlando he still got that splitty for sure uh if he they you know somebody needs a piggyback start you need someone to mop up some Innings and be a playoff hero here uh and eat up you know a good portion of a game uh Tony gon's got the length uh Landon Knack could do it I think that's the area that Tony gonsin could be uh but chat if we get into a spot where um Tony gin's in like starter conversations and stuff like that then we're talking bad times so I would just aim and expect for um you know mop not mop up but long relief and maybe a multi- ining weapon if he even has an opportunity uh to make the postseason roster you agree on that man yeah I do I do and I think the interesting conversation is about the piggyback stuff if he does come back because what you're then doing is you are taking a Bull Pen piece away from that roster sure because I don't think if he's a piggyback guy you're going to use him as a reliever away from that start uh you know I I I just I I don't really see that necessarily um but if he's a piggyback guy then either him or Landon Knack or whoever he piggybacks with is going to end up taking a a bullpen a reliever spot off of that roster and you just you gotta weigh the good and the bad there because you know who spot is he taking do they really need that you know because you're looking at those Bullpen guys and you're gonna you're going to use them you know for the most part you're going to use every guy you have there you want everybody you want all all everything ready to go you want you want no wasted roster pieces and I fully agree with that so I know Bob saying I don't know you know if you said Gomes is prepping about 2025 for Tony gon and if that's what you're referring to then maybe it's just about seeing what he has and finishing the 2024 year uh with a good boost here uh but just for the sake of conversation uh if he continues this Whi if his stuffs look stuff looks good uh and then they want to supplement land a knack with somebody else so they just you know land a knack something happens God forbid anything there knock on wood because that's my guy um but it's definitely all options can be on the table if he continues to have these uh positive results here and I see a lot of a lot of Uhl a knack hype in the chat and I appreciate the hell out of it like 818 yeah why is Knack so underrated itest says he's Topline people saying that he's going to start game four just let him do it and I see Hep doing that uh he's shown enough right now for me I said on you know Dodgers territory that he was an arm that could come up and be a Difference Maker just from his role I'm not saying he's going to be incredible but just from his role he's going to be a Difference Maker comes up as a good start so keep an eye on that I liken the role that he could played Atlanta Knack long guy but I honestly think L Knack could start a game um the second portion of this uh is Tyler glass now tosses his second Bullpen session uh with the SIM game lined up later this week um all reports that he could possibly I know Matt talked to me Matt Moreno uh gentleman and a scholar told me that with all things click right there uh that he could bypass a rehab outing I believe correct me if I'm wrong Matt uh that he could bypass a rehab outing allog together and come straight back up to the big leagues you okay with that yeah I'm fine with it uh I think what that means on all fronts his side and the team side is that they think he's fine if that's the case um and what it also says is that the ramp up is going to be quick for him you know they they see him as not having to wait too long to get built up to where he's going to need to be and also like they want his bullets being used at the big league level immediately uh you know I like that it's kind of it's what they did with mooki um you know I'm I'm for it because I think of I I think having covering having covered baseball for a long time yeah when that happens they're saying like as long as he's feeling good the next day after these sessions sure he's ready and that's how they're looking at it and the fact that you're telling me that Tyler glass now who was at one point the Undisputed number one of this rotation this season is ready to go let's ride because like I said earlier you give me flarity you give me Yamamoto and you give me glass now and then we're going to pick a fourth guy that's his good as the Dodgers have had in a long time yeah it's just a matter of making sure they're pre and ready to go don't stress anybody out that doesn't need to if you've got the you know if the I believe I know the injuries make it so like why would you ever believe in what the Dodgers you know their their training staff has going on here uh but it's about the cost and the contract attached and if they think there's a risk involved then they're not gonna do it exactly exactly they just not gonna do it yeah they would not be doing this if they were like well we're not sure but we really need them yeah no they would be overly cautious here and they would put him in in some rehab games um they would not be talking about doing this as a possibility yeah and Bob says they're just going to let him rehab in the show for sure if they believe his stuff is good enough and it looks good in the pen and side session Sim game like why not absolutely it's gonna like in a l lot of the stuff that you saw tonight uh from Yamamoto in terms of they're going to have him on a count they're going to have him on a you know a tighter schedule there uh but it's definitely steps in the right direction this is opposite of what the Dodgers have had and fans like take aide like even if even if something El there's a hiccup anywhere God forbid this is a polar opposite of the news that we've dealt with in recent years about injuries at one point it was Max Muny D for the year and they were just saying ah if we make it to the dscs maybe there's a return not going to happen last year it was going into the you know the postseason totally on fumes and you've got no options and you never had a shot and it was over before you could even go buy your merchandise at Dick Sporting Goods like there was nothing so uh I'm I'm excited about it like there's it's hard i' be hard pressed to find anybody that's not having a positive view on good injury news coming about you know Tyler glass now here Yamamoto tonight yeah
