time out of your day to join us and coming up Niners otaa winners and losers part two stock up stock down a new list of players who were studs and Duds in week two of OTAs and I love this part of the offseason number one we could talk some actual football number two there's a lot to discuss because you have OTAs but next week 49ers mandatory manic Camp Tuesday Wednesday Thursday running from June 4th through the 6th so the ners will be on the practice field and all players on this roster expected to be there you do not want to miss our coverage we'll be doing live shows providing news instant we already did this video video last week but there are some new players and performers that we want to talk about and I want to start off with talking about an under the raar cornerback and player on this Niners defense that's Isaac yadam who signed a one-year deal with San Francisco coming over from the New Orleans Saints in NFL free agency and I'll tell you what the battle for the third best cornerback on this team is going to be very interesting between yam the second round pick out of Florida State and Renardo green or can another cornerback rise up to the occasion and take that Crown Isaac yam I think has a great chance to start alongside dador Lenor and charvarius Ward as the third corner on this team and I like where the Niners are situated here at the cornerback position this gives San Francisco a little bit of flexibility you can go with charvarius Ward Isaac yam on the outside with dador Lenor in the slot I get that can play on the outside three years in the NFL he's given up three touchdowns in coverage he's really good on the outside I think he's truly Elite and special on the inside now in the final year of his contract he might want to play on the outside because naturally outside perimeter Corners make some more money but for this team I think the best scenario might be Ward yadam Lenor on the inside if the Niners want to go with Ward and Lenor on the outside you could certainly do that they did that to start last year but it gives the rookie Renardo green an opportunity to start in the slot so that's the flexibility that I'm talking about here and you have a position group that's been light in depth the last couple of years which now appears to be deep in the early portion of this off season and I'm telling you right now do not sleep on Isaac yam and I've said this a couple of times here on the show and I love the signing right from the jump the affordability the value of the player the production of the player he stepped in last year on a good Saints defense for Marshon Latimore once he got hurt he played awesome like one of the more efficient quarterbacks in the game number 14 Pro Football Focus overall grade number 22 coverage grade among Corners number 32 run defense grade he had an overall grade of 81.1 and a coverage grade of 80.4 the dude can play so either way regardless of how the quarterback situation is situated this is a good thing for San Francisco because they've been so thin there now they're pretty deep OTA winner number two once again I am going to include Ricky Piel on this list I still believe it was a little bit of a reach to take him at number 31 but what the consensus has been what I talked about after the draft selection is that piol is considered a pro by NFL Scouts evaluators front office members by his peers that's what I see when I watch the tape he has polished footwork polished route running he looks to be a season player who has that intelligence Factor where he can find that soft spot in the zone have the route running and the separation skills in the short area to beat man and find ways to get open I really think that he can be a good security blanket for Brock pie right from the jump and I think we might see a difference in offensive Philosophy for San Francisco here going into 2024 where they're still going to be that physical team that prioritizes establishing the run with the likes of a special player like Christian mcaffrey but I think with having Brandon auk Debo Samuel running it back with Jaan Jennings and extending him on that contract extension drafting Ricky peel having Jacob coing the Niners could spread it out a little bit you still want to utilize George KD but San Francisco has had so much trouble in finding a viable backup tight end to KD and running more 12 Personnel where you see more two tight end sets and after struggling against the Kansas City Chiefs with that press man in the Super Bowl did Kyle Shanahan look at the tape and say we need better Pressman beaters and we can also in turn benefit from spreading it out for our quarterback in Brock pry and giving him a plethora of op options because of how he processes how he sees the field and that went into extending Jennings drafting peaw drafting Co I think that Piera has an opportunity in this offense this year because this offense is so stacked and because the focus from the opposing defense is going to be on the likes of auk Debo KD Christian mcaffrey to rack up 500 plus yards 5 to eight touchdowns as a rookie why because he's always going to be open with the route running skills the smarts that he has to find that soft spot but Brock pretty can go through his progressions everybody's covered up I know that Ricky piera's going to be there and he also lives in the middle area of the field that's where Brock pie really thrives and flourishes peaw throughout OTAs throughout rookie minute Camp he's been able to make good plays on a consistent basis the stock is up for the rookie first round pick of the 2024 draft for Francisco winner number three Joan Jennings he was present at OTAs he reported and it's funny how the timeline kind of shifted last week he doesn't report and everybody's theorizing well he did not sign that RFA tender is he looking for a contract extension I talk about these things on the show people call me crazy but then Jenning shows up not only does he show up but he gets that contract extension that I had discussed here on the show look players don't want to report to practice until they get that Financial Security they get taken care of I believe the same thing is happening right now with Christian mcaffrey but Jennings signed his new contract he got a nice little bag and he gets to stay with the organization that has helped develop him where he has a really good role where he is beloved by the coaching staff his teammates and the fans and a player who time and time again the last three years has consistently made clutch plays on money downs and pressure cooker situations and I think that he's only scratching the surface for the player that he can become some details on the Jawan Jennings contract per over the cap we always break these down on this show that's why you hit that sub button we have thought-provoking content informative content has a 2024 base salary of a little more than a million dollars great value for the ners here the 2025 base $1.17 million that is also the guaranteed money that Joan Jennings is getting over the next two years $1.2 million is the pro-rated signing bonus the per game roster bonus $625,000 and then he's going to have very affordable cap pits he of course isn't a tier one player but he's valuable to what the ners do as a pass catcher clutch playmaker as a run blocker culturally so to have these cap numbers here of $22.77 million $4.25 million that's a good bargain deal for San Francisco it's a 2-year deal North of10 million he can make up to $5 plus Million winner number four is the little talked about Mason Pline myself and Larry Krueger have been high on Mason Pline since the Niners sign them to a udfa deal for those of you who don't know in the words of Biggie now you know started off at FIS State as a basketball ball player he then made the switch to football at feris State and then he transferred to a high level of competition to play at Ferman in his final year he was able to participate in the east west Shrine bow so not to the level of the senior bull but the East West Shrine Bull gives an opportunity for these prospects to really show up show out and Mason Pline turned some heads there and in the pre-draft process we talked about this Mason Pline attracted the ners didn't think that he was going to get drafted because he's so raw little bit of a risk but the size is very very intriguing here 66 251 he can go up and get it he Glides offensive coaching staff has been impressed by his movement and development as a pass catcher he's going to have to work on the blocking a little bit 479 40 yard dash that's pretty good speed at that size and the basketball player in him it shows and a reason why he's a winner he's performed well he's been able to attract some attention but he has an opportunity here at a pretty good role Charlie Warner Ross dwell they're elsewhere George KD coming off his first 1,000 yard season since 2019 he was the best tight end in the NFL last year but the tight end spot behind KD a huge question mark cam latu brayan Willis Eric sabert can they play we're really not sure up to this point can Mason Pine we're not sure but an opportunity to NAB that roster spot maybe make the team as a backup tight end behind KD darell lutter Jr is my fifth winner here for Niners OTAs week two and as I've said Niners cornerback room it's a deep one but the stock is rising for lutter who is drafted by this team two years ago unfortunately he was a part of an unfortunate play during Super Bowl 58 when the ball bounced off his foot and then where McLoud tried to scoop it he fumbled it next play Chiefs score a touchdown that really got the Chiefs offense moving after they hadn't done zilch up to that point in Las Vegas but the stock Rising for lutter intercepted Brandon Allen on a pass intended for Tariq Owens it was an underthrown Ball but lutter made the play his teammates went nuts and he's making plays at a deep position and when you're making plays at a deep position when you could play well and still get cut that's important at this point of the off season we're talking Niners football here ladies and gentlemen we're talking about competition seven on sevens 11 on 11s it's not game action but it's close if this has you pumped up I want you to spam SF down in the comment the former third round pick continues to be a little bit of a disappointment for San Francisco and the consistent theme he continues to struggle in practice and under Kyle Shanahan especially and under a lot of coaches if you struggle in practice it is hard to trust you in the game and his chances of making the roster I think are diminishing a little bit especially if an Isaac yadam or Rock Yin continue to play well right and then you have darell lutter Jr who is also trying to make this team Renardo green they drafted him in the second round so these quarterbacks are on the hot seat and that also includes Samuel wac for a lot of the same reasons right when you're struggling in practice other players are seizing the opportunity and it's going to come down to a numbers game when it comes down to 53 man roster cutdown day you could play well you could be a good player you can have a lot of potential but that potential has to translate even if it does translate but other people are still playing well and they've earned the trust of this coaching staff you can still be on the chopping block because the ners are deep at the position Samuel wac had a bad sequence earlier this week when he gave up a long reception for a first down when he was guarding Ronnie Bell and then he committed a penalty those are the types of head scratching plays that the coaching staff will not like and to me Samuel wack Ambry Thomas they might be pressing a little bit so with the Niners being a few players deep at this specific position the pressure is on these DBS to make this team I think the pressure has been ratcheted up on Elijah Mitchell he's my loser number three unfortunately for him after being banged up so much including a couple of knee injuries the sad reality is injuries may have caught up to Elijah Mitchell and this might be the reason why the writing has been on the wall for him to maybe not make this team and this is why the Niners actions speak loudly they traded up for Isaac gendo they signed Cody Shader as a udfa they've shown interest in running backs they traded for for Christian McCaffrey so gendo shider and Jordan Mason he could be a winner for our otaa segment here they seem to be better options right now as far as health availability and now performance Elijah Mitchell struggling a little bit and he may have lacked a little bit of that juice that we saw as a rookie OTA loser number four finally it's camela 2 still not practicing coming off that meniscus injury that he suffered last year as a rookie and this is problematic for a couple of reasons right he continues to not practice the roster seat getting warm last year in the preseason and in training camp he could not catch the football and then he got injured and now he's not practicing a slow recovery for him and kind of like the quarterback spot like other players are seizing and taking advantage of these opportunities which in turn can slide you down the depth chart going into year two I get it the Niners drafted you where they did it doesn't matter at this point you got to put together your best football unit your biggest winner and loser from OTAs is who let me
