DOCTOR REBECCA CUNNINGHAM HAS BEEN ON THE JOB FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS NOW. WHILE ALL OUT AT THE STATE FAIR TODAY, DOCTOR CUNNINGHAM SAT DOWN TO TALK WITH OUR ERIC CHALOUX. >> I'M THRILLED OUR ENROLLMENT NUMBERS ARE UP. WE HAVE THE BIGGEST CLASS JOINING THE TWIN CITIES IN DECADES, DOCTOR REBECCA CUNNINGHAM, THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA SYSTEM'S NEW PRESIDENT, HELPED IT MOVE IN DAY AT THE TWIN CITIES CAMPUS EARLIER THIS WEEK. >> AS THESE PARENTS LEAVE THEIR CHILDREN AT SCHOOL, WE ASKED PRESIDENT CUNNINGHAM ABOUT HER TAKE ON A RECURRING ISSUE SAFETY WHEN IT COMES TO PUBLIC SAFETY. AROUND THE TWIN CITIES CAMPUS. WHAT DO YOU FEEL NEEDS TO BE DONE DIFFERENTLY? WELL I KNOW THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF PROGRESS. >> WE'RE OPENING A IN DINKYTOWN A SAFETY RESOURCE CENTER, IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS. >> CUNNINGHAM FEELS MORE CAN BE DONE TO ENHANCE RELATIONSHIPS WITH THE COMMUNITY. >> THAT'S MY HISTORY AND BACKGROUND WAS ACTUALLY IN WORKING IN COMMUNITIES. BE SAFER . I THINK WE NEED TO CONTINUE TO WORK WITH THE LOCAL COMMUNITY AND WORK ON PREVENTION TACTICS. WHAT ARE WE DOING TO DO PREVENTION EARLIER ON SO THAT THERE'S LESS VIOLENCE DOWN THE ROAD? ANOTHER ISSUE ON A PARENT'S MIND IS TUITION. >> THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA JUST SAW ONE OF THE LARGEST INCREASES IN RECENT YEARS. AT THE END OF THE DAY, WHAT THEY PAY IS LESS THAN ANY OTHER FORCE. >> FOUR YEAR UNIVERSITY IN THE STATE, CUNNINGHAM SAYS. >> THAT'S ONCE YOU MIX IN FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS FOR SOME STUDENTS. PRESIDENT CUNNINGHAM SAYS THEY WILL BE MONITORING THE ECONOMIC PULSE OF THE SYSTEM IN THE COMING MONTHS AS THEY DECIDE ABOUT NEXT YEAR'S TUITION. CUNNINGHAM TELLS US. LEGISLATIVE SUPPORT PLAYS A KEY ROLE. WE'RE ALSO RELATED TO STATE SUPPORT AND SO I THINK AT THE END OF THE DAY, WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO MOVE AHEAD AND GIVE THE STUDENTS THE SUPPORT THEY NEEDED. THE FORMAL INAUGURATION CEREMONY FOR PRESIDENT CUNNINGHAM WILL TAKE PLACE SEPTEMBER
