welcome to ipsilanti and just a few miles away from the big house where this house is home to the Eastern Michigan Eagles and we are anticipating a great turnout and a sensational game in this one today an interc conference battle between a couple of Max Rivals as we'll see the too rockets taking on a squad hoping to prevent another L this week the Eastern Michigan Eagles for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis joined here in the booth by David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing [Music] started Michigan ready to kick it off and get this game going and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 so the Toledo Rockets offense will have the first possession of the game and this guy feels like a throwback back in the day the running backs were always the Stars this guy fits that mole and he can do a lot of different things too he's not a coming out aggressively and that one Falls incomplete they tried to go over the top on first down second down coming up couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again trying to make that Rush think on the draw play here didn't find a lot of room let's give him two out to the 20 already they've hit a speed bump on this opening drive it's third and eight back to throw it's gleon and the heat gets there and they get him down at the 14 yd line the defense coming up big there and the sack is great but the secondary deserves some credit too no doubt when you can cover like that in the secondary and drop back in your Zone and only Rush a few and you feel comfortable getting home and they're going to get to their quarterback that is a great feeling and that's fun to be a defensive coordinator call the Rockets decide to punt it away this will be their first punt of the afternoon he gets a block and the punt team able to smack him to the ground so Eastern Michigan's offense will have its first possession of the game on first down here comes this offense he's looking to throw it finds his tight end and that was some kind of collision between a couple of big bodies there and he stopped from getting the first down H coming up they'll Run play action fires to the wide out oh what a grab by the defense and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception as a quarterback you've got to give your receiver an opportunity to make the play you got to put the ball on his body and that throw gets away a little bit from the QB and that leads to the tip in the interception guys let's see what Toledo can get done on offense this time quick pass on the jet motion and the defense holds firm no pickup at all on that play they'll line up for a second down play they're trying to slow that Rush down with the draw finding a way to put that foot in the ground and get it up to the 37 yd line after the strong run on second down third down coming do they do it again looking to pass it's gleon finds his big tight end and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains first for the off power football with the Run he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 trying play action and they got him for the sack the defense just simply not fooled by the play action often times an offense in the second third down conversions always a huge stat and they've got a third and long from the 27 that's caught it's Mitchell good job running that route to get past the because he got nothing complete on the right side nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive success on second down they'll take to the air and that pass picked off and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back forto man that is Picture Perfect cover zero when I play cover zero I'm bringing pressure and that Ball's going to come out look at the defense ready for that ball to come out of the quarterback's hand nice job breaking on the football and going and making the [Music] interception Eastern Michigan takes over as the offense heads to the field so late in the half this is really an opportunity David maybe just swing the momentum in their favor dang right there's no time to be conserned we're a little bit down listen I just think this is a point with the offense that they can prove like we're here we're going to create something now that we can build on in the second half coach said all week he wanted to be aggressive this is a great opportunity to show that right now at the end of the first half try and generate some momentum score some points before going into halftime there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a Little Closer got his man and an explosive play has him on the move and he gets it all the way to the 48 yd line there's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away offense gets set for second down wants to throw it's Snider and there was nowhere to go for this quarterback and down he goes the offense calls timeout and they won't have any any more left this half they'll try the run and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have quarters of football in ipsilanti and it' be easy to say these two offenses are glad we've hit halftime based on their respective performances it would also be accurate turnovers and sacks have told the story so far and you got to believe the play calling has been the issue right time to shred those game plans and just get back to basics and just like that let's send it back to the guys in inside the factory and the rockets will kick it off to start the second half KCK he thought about bringing that out for a half second but he'll take a knee and they'll bring it to the 25 Eastern Michigan has it back as the eagle offense returns to the field snags it quickly on the left good call good execution as they move the chains and they have a first down at the 38 first down for the offense he'll keep it himself we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up got a little work done on first down now back to the line they'll run it from the gun they've got it to the 49 yd line and they'll move the chain they a success rate can be picking up about four or or so on first down first and 10 he's got it on the right and he was knocked down immediately very short pick up on them and on second down for this offense now the play fake and they got him he'll get him down for the sack this game really has turned into a defensive struggle and both defenses right now are just absolutely dominating that time nice job using his pass rush moves getting to the quarterback and they just look like they cannot be blocked right now up front now facing a third and long back to pass it's Snider he's got it down the middle he ended up going backwards on the play and they will not convert that third down Eastern Michigan will be forced to punt let's see if he can help the coverage team out with this one he'll be content with the field position making the fair catch right around the 30yd line the Rockets offense is back on the field a quick pass to the left and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pick up they'll snap this one from the 42 it's first and 10 that's a first down for the offense going to the running game at the 45 on it way he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down and that's a first down they'll ride the hot hand he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple this offense has a second down play looking for space it's Stewart some belief in that running game as they pick up five to the 35 y line a third and long coming up here he's got it just outside the red zone as they pick up the first down they'll spot it at the 22 enough for first guys that's the end of the quarter and Toledo has the lead let's take a quick look at the national rankings to see how this playoff race is shaping up not only is the scoreboard on their side but so too is time as we open the forth motion from the offense looking to go up top on first down and it's intercepted a huge fourth quarter play for this defense and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the pick we talk about having to have it we needed to force the turnover we had to get the football back they're in such a good position to run out the clock the 28 with the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs and first comes out throwing on first down how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion and the incompletion brings up a second down for this offense pressure coming and he got smacked just as he released the pass it's incomplete let's see what call they have on Third and long from the 28th looking downfield it's Snider just flying through the air like a superhero to make the grab most important part of a clutch Drive piece together some first downs get in position and here they are on First and 10 small gain I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot out of this immediately fires to the middle and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down Eastern Michigan has it and a fresh set of downs wide receiver coming across in motion they'll run it out of the shotgun they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one the Lost yardage leaves him with second and 11 brings up second down from the gun try to impose their running game that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there third on third down he'll try to pick it up through the air and the defense picks up a sack getting the quarterback down at the 44 they'll tell you that somebody's always going to pop open but it didn't happen in time before they got the sack no it did not and you know what I'm going to remember this I'm going to remember zone defense they didn't really have an answer they weren't ready to get rid of the football quarterback hesitated I got to them and got him on the ground might be a good call later on in the game on fourth down they'll try to throw it makes the grab and he's got the first and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play we reach the two-minute warning and the defense needs to come up with a stop to close this thing out got some room made it to the goal line and he will take it in touchdown Eastern Michigan and great job executing the offense did what they needed to do you got somewhat of a decision here you want to kick it tie it up I I think you do with this time frame you know one to two minutes left in the fourth quarter you probably want to do that but you could push the envelope we could go for two and try to take the lead [Applause] and the extra point was good and we are all tied up in the fourth and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Conor's in the studio fell is a big tie top 15 duel let's get right to it Clemson is ahead early in Death Valley but that's not exactly Trevor Lawrence out there this game is eagle offense returns to the field so here it is plenty of time to go and an opportunity to move the ball down the field and win it David yeah and you rep this every single week the two-minute drill you got to be precise you know exactly what your favorite plays are Palmer go down the field get me in full and it comes down to the awareness right especially at the quarterback position here understanding the timeout situation working the boundary in the sideline what's the clock showing me it all comes down to this after the pickup of nine it's second and one quick timeout by the defense there trying to make sure everyone has the same call going to work in the Red Zone they can't pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone out of the shotgun they go to the ground he works his way all the way down to the three and the defense is reeling and as time is dwindling away in this one the offense is set up first and goal great opportunity to get the go-ahead score he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they lost ground on first down now second and goal from the five they'll keep it on the ground right up the gut looking for six touchdown Eagles they've got the lead here in the fourth man how about this offense in crunch time do doing what they do getting six on the board now I turn to my defense right now said boys we need one more stop go out there get me one [Music] more lining up to tack one more onto that [Applause] lead the extra point is good and now in the fourth they're up by a touchdown and an extra point kickoff team has the ball teed up and they're about ready to go to fielded In The End Zone it's l nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 guys let's see what Toledo can get done on offense this time here's a throw downfield late makes the grab on the right and they are pushing the ball down the field a big pick up up on that one and the tackle is finally made to the line quickly they'll spike it to save some time second down coming up to throw it's gleon they're bringing Heat and the pressure will get there the sack down he goes in the waiting moments that could be a costly play on Third and long doesn't need to take the check down makes the catch it's Stewart and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop on fourth down looking to pass fires to the middle finds his man are enough for the first and not much of a fourth down gamble when it's that much of a sure thing an easy conversion for this offense and they are looking to P even with a touchdown here in the fourth quarter he'll spike the ball to try to save every precious second he can can the defense stop him again on second and [Applause] goal he's looking to throw into the end zone and it's caught for a touchdown and we might just have overtime on our hands and they desperately needed that touchdown now it's Miracle time we got to kick this onside kick and somehow find a way to to boot a long field goal and maybe win this thing at the [Music] buzzer the extra point can tie it up headed to halftime they'll use the timeout 6 seconds left on the clock time out Eastern Michigan and that extra point was good and we are deadlocked here in the fourth coming down the stretching the for and we are all tied up about set to kick it away here's the return from inside is 10 not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 first down here from the offense the give to the back really nice stop there from this senior leader well guys let's play some more headed to overtime and this just feels right both of these teams going back and forth so of course David this thing needs to get decided in OT let's see who's better short amount of time to do it a couple possessions probably maybe one possession each who's the better team all right guys so here we go in overtime and just to refresh everyone's memory alternating possessions starting on the opponent's 25 and you want to play defense first because you want to know what you need that's a key philosophical approach for most teams when it comes to overtime David yeah and remember the rule Chang a couple years ago too in in the second overtime and two-point conversion so all this stuff is situational type football that you better have worked on throughout these weeks of the Season they'll snap it from the 25 here on first down they're getting this guy lathered up they stop him right on the edge of the Red Zone a pick up of five to the 20 halfway there on first down it's second and five dropping back it's Snider five fires toward the end zone touchdown eagles they strike first on overtime and it's now the second time this wide receiver has scored it but somehow it slithered through his finger they go to the draw he picks up four that'll leave them with third and six trying to pick up a first down third [Applause] down on third down he drops to throw got a man it's Stevens and they gave him no chance to get loose and they forc a fourth down defense will call a timeout they got a peek at the formation want to make sure they're in the right call on this big down here in overtime it is good and now they take the lead 24 Easter Michigan 21 down by a field goal and a touchdown will win it let's see what they've got on first down quick pass on the Fly motion and he's knocked down but not before moving the chain Eastern Michigan has moved into the Red Zone and they'll run it and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no gain land going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down looking to the big tight end oh so close to paying off the tip TR he had it in his hands but it falls incomplete on third down going up top he got it in ball game what a clutch play as they win it in double overtime that's his third touchdown pass of the day the defense has no clue how to respond right now no and the defense has had absolutely no answer he's been on the money he's been on fire making the right decisions and just carving this defense up I know how to sum up this game cnly that was fun and what a victory to remember fun for them fun for us just the back and forth um games that are so nip and Tuck and you know every play matters so much these are the games that we love to call yeah every play matters David and that's why coaching staffs practice overtime scenarios and situations throughout the week it's important to drill these types of scenarios
