impressed with when it seems like there's more pressure he's more calm and settles in he's done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he's able to wiggle off the hook of you know tough situations and get his team back in the Dugout that one fouled [Applause] off the wi to the pitch lifted in the air now the left side and that'll fall for a base hit Sol Runner aboard to start the inning Lawrence Butler with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overrun you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you worked to get here digging in for Oakland Brent Rooker trying to pick up his first knock in the big lead that misses the Zone ball one righty delivers and that one fouled off and one and two one runner at first with no outs here and one away and that's the first strike out of his major league career and it could be the first of many if he meets the goals he set for himself and the expectations others have for him he doesn't want to just win games he wants to dominate at this level do you think Young pitchers can sometimes get too caught up in trying to rack up KS early in their career Bo I think they can it's kind of like a hitter that doesn't have power The Thrill is still hitting a ball over the fence and so for a guy even if he doesn't have power stuff or strikeout stuff a strike out is still something that makes him stick his chest out a little bit further and here it comes popped up Peña settles under it and makes the catch and there's two down and time now to check out the A's lineup they do a lot of things well in this offense singy they control the strike zone they make pitchers work hard for outs and as a result one of the better OBP teams in the league well what I love about it is it's an organizational philosophy whether you go to instructional League whether you go to spring training you see these guys even during batting practice when it doesn't matter they're practicing that type of approach Boo and when you have that filtering through the organization even when you call up a player he steps right in and continues with the pattern that they have established at this level which ultimately leads to a lot of success F back ourway and that's out of play and the pitch that's off the mark two and one you know you translate on base percentage it's basically this teams that have a high on base percentage they don't make outs at a very high rate as my buddy Joe Sheen says OBP is gamble pulls it down and that'll do it they get a lead off single but leave him stranded and now the Astros go to work for the first time no score back here in Houston starting on the m in this one JT gin and singing a special day for him he's making his major league here and I'm sure he's got some nerves this guy gets on first he's thinking about second and then third he's got the wheels to make that kind of stuff happen and really disrupt the ball game I love watching guys like him just makeu Tucker Center Le pulls that one down and that quickly two away so next up for Houston Jeremy Peña you know the Astros drafted p in 2018 but it was only possible because he chose to play college baseball instead of signing with headed towards the corner and that's a fair ball round first and hling for second and his first big league hit as a double Jeremy Peña with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming for the right pitch to come their way and I'm seeing very patient bats out of them it's not just the three runs they've already scored on top of that they forced this starter to throw more pitches he wanted this point of the game that's in for a strike on the outside corner and it's one and two and another ball and that pitch count is impactful because if they can keep making him work hard out there it may Force the bullpen to get involved a little sooner rather than later goes down swinging for the strike down had him out front for strike three he's really good hitting the baseball the other way so credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had him full here's the third baseman his first bat was a strike out gets under and Pops it up and that's a foul ball one down base is empty on the ground now tuve handles it throw is high and over his head and it's going to wind up out of play well I definitely think the speed down the line played a factor on that throw he had more time than he thought but as a Fielder the speed of the game and the speed of the runner sometimes can get in your head and he just rushed it and failed to make a clean throw and league ball game I did it as a position player but for him as a pitcher sure there's some nerves there probably don't want to squeeze the baseball too tight just relax and do what you're capable of doing it's been tough for the offense so far but you can't frustrated you got to find a way to Shake it Off go up there and relax that's the only way you're going to be able to put runs up on the board and now the Lefty the short stop takes the ball Oakland's Bullpen has the movement TJ McFarland getting loose out there otan the right hand also getting loose and there's a ball battling here as he fouls it away at the belt and fires got it by him for the K there's a small side of relief right there I mean just to keep that speed off the base pass it's not just the pitcher it's other guys that have to think infers have to think about that Runner potentially stealing but also be in position to make a play as an outf you're thinking about a base hit to the Outfield I got to get to it quickly to try to keep this guy from taking an extra base so I think just a little more relaxed that he didn't reach base Wilson slings it across two up two down the rightel number 12 Ben G Ben gaml getting ready to hit there's a strike oh and one the stros trailing by three here the bottom of the seven and there's the strike well I didn't like those first two pitches now an2 hole he's going to have to battle hope he gets a mistake look out and it hit him he had two strikes on him and he hit himy Lefty match up and sometimes you can be on roller skates a little bit where you're quickly to get out of the way but other times you're saying proba safer if I just try to get a f part of my body on thee and w't hurt as much McCormack up to for the third time as he lays off inside ball one way inside not showing great command so far in this here or this could get ugly two outs that's down an in Jose Altuve waiting to hit for Houston the pitch and that is in for a strike and a count is three and one in the air out to Center and that will end the inning so the Astros leave one and this is still a 41 ball game and here's the catcher Shay langers the catcher the line and the pitch that one catches the Zone that's strike one you know these A's digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they're taking they've hit seven line drives already and even though some of them have been for outs there's nothing wrong with delivering consistent hard contact that's almost always going to lead to positive results righty to the plate and that skips into dir wouldn't chase that time he never moved because he never had time to but that kind of velocity you'd prefer that pitcher work away that one down the line and that's just foul the two two swings and blasts one deep to left Center Alvarez going back on it it's a bom he made him pay for that one his first Homer of the year and they tack on to their lead it's 51 that's their fourth home run of the game they can't stop and they won't stop home runs in this one boo they're clearly feeding off of each other at the dish knew what pitch he wanted to hit spit on some other pitches in this at bat was very patient and it paid plate for him he looks locked in tried to he ready it just thech Qui so man aboard here's the second baseman Zack gell that pitch in for a strike [Music] one man it's second ball one Oakland looking to add another and we're in the top of the eighth next off bring is in for a strike tries to hold up appeal to first he did not go around and that's a little bit High and the Count's full really good Runner but what I love about him is that he goes all out every single time never takes a break guys like that even though they don't have the Elite Speed the fact that they're consistent with it they make moves on the base PA that's in there and two [Applause] k got to take advantage of this opportunity now because of the wild pitch they've got two runners in scoring position good time for The Hitter to lock in put the ball in play hard somewhere Altuve on to First there for the out runner scores from third new arm out of the bullpen Taylor Scout and know about a slider it's just filthy man and one of the better ones in the game I'd say spin rate very high and it just breaks a ton so two down now and here is Jacob Wilson and this is a big opportunity for him to pick up his teammate right stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you've worked to get here Mason Miller gets the ball now a chance at his first
