welcome to San Antonio Texas and remember the Alamo Dome is home to the road runners of UTSA and we are fired up to get this game underway little gets the blood boiling quite like a rivalry game barbs shots trash talk things that go on throughout the week will now all be settled on this field as we'll see a squad from the Sun Belt the Texas state Bob cats taking on a team from the AAC the UTSA road runners for EA Sports college football I'm reys Davis joined here in the booth as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's tee this one up the road runners will get us started with the opening [Applause] kickoff and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 so the Texas State Bobcats offense is on the field for the first time today and the adrenaline is pumping on overdrive in games like this guys and it's crucial to get your emotions under control no doubt in rivalry games you've got to limit the mental errors and you've got to limit the penalties cuz those will kill you Pollock and you got to come out under control it means so much we know that the fans are all talking about it but it's just football and the Bobcats headed quickly to the line wants to throw on first down he puts a lot of air under it down the sideline and it falls incomplete and the offense is lucky to have it Defender right there almost had it in his grasp the biggest lie col football coaches tell is nameless faceless opponent David game like this you know their name and you know their face you know them well and it does mean just a little bit more because it's bragging rights like the rivalries matter so much all throughout the year all the fans talking about this game in particular that's why it means more and that's why these players will be jacked out of their minds Ball's at the 20 n defense can taste getting off the field it's third and long back to throw it's McLoud shoots it to the left it's complete he will step out of bounds but not before the big pickup and a first down for this offense and they just want to give this guy a chance to make a play on third down and more times than not he is going to deliver he's so good so efficient such a good route Runner got the speed got the complete game so you definitely want to highlight him and especially on those Downs that matter the most if something's not open Quick underneath find him he'll make those contested [Applause] catches from the gun running back gets to give and he runs through one tackle and picks up a few yeah this coaching staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm now they're letting them drive off the ball on first down on these run running plays and they're getting chunks of yardage got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four he's looking to throw and they can't make the connection well on that incompletion the quarterback and receiver just not on the same page I mean that wasn't even close couldn't find his man last time now they'll have to convert third and four from the gun wants to pass throws for the tight end he's got it and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play man if I'm a defense I got to find a way to get some more pressure on the quarterback or disrupt their timing and their Rhythm I can't give them these big chunk plays through the air I got to be maybe a little bit more aggressive or do something a little bit different the Bobcats have it with a first and 10 trying to cap this drive with the pass he snares it in the end zone touchdown Bobcats you want to talk about a great way to start the game and set the tone early it's so nice to have a quarterback just get himself into the game and get himself established you make a couple throws you lead your offense down the field you score right off the bat could not have been a better start for that QB and it looks as if they've buzzed down repl wants to have another Peak at that last play after taking another look just to confirm everything the officials on the field got it right the play will stand and the pat makes it 7 nothing so an 82 yd drive there and they top it off with a 14 yd pass for the touchdown the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one away on the move from inside is five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 so the UTSA road runners offense will take the field for the first time first down here for the offense leaves it with the back at the 35 he's got room and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play defense is going to have their hands full trying to stop this guy they better rally to the football and get multiple hats cuz he is not easy to bring down defense trying to keep this offense from getting a line on who to block and the road runners want to move quickly right back to the well and a nice solid pick up there before the defense wrestles him to the ground ground we had a barn burner the last time these two teams played and no reason to expect anything else between these two bitter Rivals attention to detail and I think the sense of urgency David in a game like this just goes way up and I think managing the emotions in these type of games you you know last year was a classic now you're trying to form this year's identity of this team and go out and fires toward the end zone and good coverage there to knock it away and deny the score four listen I know I know DBS don't catch the ball real well but to be a defensive back it's one of the hardest positions in football you got to stay with these big fast wide receivers and then try to go track the football and make a play great job making a play for his team there we'll see if they go back to the air after the incompletion it's third and five dropping back it's Macau moving keeping the eyes down field they'll pick up enough yardage for the first down they've got it at the 30 man that's so frustrating it happens so fast he just pulls it down it looks like pass he pulls it down and he's gone just like that chewing up yards so much speed so hard to stop the road runners are on the Move off play action on first down makes the catch and steps out of bounds but short of the first down marker you know we joke that the tight end's always open David but play action almost makes it impossible to keep them covered and yeah because those guys they're such good blockers most of the time they're big and physical and they sell block for a second and then they run open and they find holes in zones or they get good matchups and man those tight ends nowadays are nightmares for defenses to try to stop here's the handoff brought to the ground but not before getting enough for the first down that's the end of the quarter Texas state has the lead here guys let's have a look at the stats as we've played one [Applause] period they've swapped into of the field and we're ready to go in the second just inside the Red Zone first and 10 from the 19 they're threatening to score and they'll throw it quarterback doing what he does best he can move on the run and he'll slide to avoid the big hit Hey listen it's important at that position to be able to be good off schedule everything's easy when it's on time you can get the ball at but when things break down and they get off schedule you've got to have a guy back there that can make the right decisions he did exactly that and the road runners come to the line in the hurry up out of the gun the inside handoff to the running back able to pick up a couple before he's knocked down they mark it at the 10 really need to pick up this conversion and avoid having to settle for the field goal wide receiver shows motion try to get the edge with a quick touch pass he'll be stopped short picks up one but they're facing fourth and one well and on these little push passes timing is so important you're trying to snap it right as he's getting a full head of steam when he gets the ball he's hitting the outside and David it puts the defense in such a difficult spot you immediately have to be rotating when you see that motion so everybody's got to communicate and kind of bump over that's why offenses love to run it just it makes the defense communicate and see if you can just get him out of a spot he got it [Applause] so the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away after putting up a field goal let's see what the defense can do he'll bring it back from inside his five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Texas state gets the football back and here comes the offense that last Drive really productive David wound up with a touchdown they'll try to do it again yeah so I don't expect this offense to change too much ree they had a great Drive they got the touchdown everything working I would expect them to keep pushing this ball downhill and just imagine if they could put another touchdown on the board board right here they could capture so much momentum in this game with backto back TDS they get to the line quickly quick touch pass to the receiver still on his feet at the 35 defense on skates that time they finally drag him down at the 42 and you see so many of these plays now in today's football wide receiver coming in motion and the quarterback catches it just flips it forward that's a completed pass uh you see the big plays where it just lets him get on the edge really really quickly and if he drops the football coming in motion it's just an incomplete pass so these plays are getting big plays with really no risk the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D really nice stop there from this senior leader you know runs like that this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning we've reached the two-minute warning and we'll see if the offense can build on this lead before the break here comes the offense on second down dropping back it's McLoud gets it out quickly and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few yeah and you see running backs in today's football they play wide receiver basically for you but you got to find a guy that you can throw it to and you know he's going to catch the ball consistently that last completion still leaving them with a third down from the gun wants to pass caught near the sticks it's Wilson he steps out of bounds but it will be enough for a first down well that play was designed for that down in distance right you saw how he barely got enough to pick up the first really nice job by the play caller they're understanding the situation and what play to dial up and the Bobcats come to the line with a new set of downs going up top on first down he makes the connection and that's a very productive first down play and bringing up second and three and a really nice job by the wide receiver you run a drag route find Space they're in zone coverage they're not covering manto man find a little hole look at that QB y'all get on the same page you could tell they were and that's why they got the first down trying to get a rhythm in the passing game now on second down a strike downfield the tackle is made but he's got it first and goal from the six this offense is clicking everything working together really well coordinator quarterback offensive line good Rhythm good flow defense is going to have to find something to kind of mess up this timing they got going on the offense will have to use its first timeout of the half the Bobcats have it in scoring position on first and goal they'll go to the air lets it go to the end zone and he's on his way he'll go all the way touchdown Bobcats a score for the big fella here why are tight ends so effective in the Red Zone well these aren't the guys that are going to burn by you and go for 70 most of the time but when you can use their big bodied frames threaten them to run the football and be a Blocker in the running game and now you slip him in the secondary make that big play [Applause] ready to try the point after the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead so it's an 80 yd drive and they get it into the end zone with a 6-y touchdown pass kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one deep and they thought about a return Then thought better of it they'll bring it out to the 25 UTSA takes over in the offense ready to hit the field not a lot of time left here in the half let's see if they can makes a catch down the right side open Runway ahead touchdown road runners and once he found some daylight it was time to make a house call and I tell you what that passing touchdown man that should spark this whole team like the comeback is more than on now like they got the touchdown they cut into the lead you you want to get a stop and go into the half get all the juices all the excitement and be like listen the passing game's rolling we got this The Comebacks in full effect now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and with the extra point they cut the lead to 1410 that kind of Drive will boost your confidence One play hit the big pass put a touchdown on the board kickoff team lining up to send this one [Applause] away on the run from inside his own five didn't find any increase in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 Texas state has the football back and they'll go on offense looking downfield it's McLoud it's complete to the right a little more space open up that Playbook even more as they pick up the first down out to the 30 the offense will quickly use a timeout good job by the receiver there not to run into coverage but to find a spot that the quarterback could throw him the ball yeah on those types of routes Rees they say if you're looking you're booking so if that's man coverage the receiver staring at the quarterback all the way across the field that time the receiver didn't give the quarterback his eyes so they were on the same page they both knew it was Zone and they executed that perfectly four wide outs set two by two on second and five he's looking to throw fires one high and deep and they can't hook up going for the big play on second down now it's third down out long incompletions are okay we got to take shots you got to make big plays in college football I love that you're taking shots keep taking them some of those are going to come home some of them aren't but when they come home they equal Big Time points shotgun snap wants to throw it on third just threw that one away to avoid disaster well it's third and short they're throwing for it they just can't come up with that one setting up a big decision now for the head coach on fourth down and the Bobcats decide to punt it away the punter going to get his first work of the afternoon they'll put that return to a stop at the 33 but the offense set up in pretty good field position time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half throws to the tight end pass is incomplete and we dwindle down to 7 Seconds yeah and sometimes the coverage is just great and as a quarterback you throw the football away or don't try to force it too tight into a window and you just say hey defense won that rep good coverage after the incompletion let's see if they go back to the air on second and 10 from the 33 looking to throw it's maau just gets rid of it to the running back underneath a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half one more play before the teams head to the locker rooms on Third and short they'll try to pick it up with a pass fires to the tight end he steps out of bounds but he's got a first down on the play that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin in our halftime update phyas what an environment there today all the animosity and Flatout hatred that comes with a good oldfashioned rivalry game on display in that first half and I get it a lot of coaches will say the difference between winning and losing comes down to stopping big plays and getting big plays but if you ask me it's more about how good you are on third down and how efficient you are in keeping drives alive those two stats can help you break the will of even the best defenses and help you out on top that said let's get back to the field and our guys in the booth to see who comes out on top of this rivalry contest the Bobcats will kick it off to start the second half the returner will field it and try to do some business he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 UTSA will take over in the offense ready to return to the field they got a lot done through the air in the first half and they might need even more production here in the second I think they will Ree and and I think this is an offense that has proven they're playing with good timing right now they've got some matchups where they're winning one-on-one and they're just going to have to keep going back to the well David and relying on hitting some explosive plays to win this game yeah and I think we look at numbers naturally and and they're losing so that's the most important thing on the scoreboard but they have had success and so what do you do you keep playing pitch and catch you got to score but you got to talk to your defense I need some stops I need the football back quickly so we can do some more damage guess the nose of the ball to the 25 give him one the road runners will hustle to the line looking to pass it's Macau quarterback strolling away from Heat at the 35 he's open and the ball's on the ground picks up the ball and tries to make something of it woo deep breath right man you you fumble that thing you cough it up you're like oh I really appreciate you brother I can't tell you how much I thank you because the coaches would have been all over me but Big Time Break for the offense and the road runners with the first and 10 the give from the gun and how about the efficiency on that one it'll bring up second and four you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense sixy pickup on first down leaves him with second and four they'll run it behind the big guys on the left that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there will they keep it on the ground again here on third down they'll try to power their way ahead now they're really starting to threaten as they pick up the first down at the 34 yd line and I don't care if I get it by two by 20 by 30 by 40 I I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I get to that stick get to the first down marker it's a draw we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up man a nice second effort by the back to break a tackle but how about those defensive backs willing to come up stick their face in the fan and make a tackle those are the best run defenses too right it's not just D linman and linebackers getting all the plays but it's DBS that are willing to not just cover but tackle backs in the open field quarterback flips it ahead quickly to the receiver the defense wouldn't let him lose there and it was a completion but they lost yardage the first thing you have to do to make these play successful offensively is I have to block The Edge I I got to get my Speedster in space they didn't do a good job of getting that guy out there in space where he could really use his Jets nice job by the defense understanding it seeing it rallying to it and tackling that guy for a loss third and long and he'll try to throw for it and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down third and long situation they try to go screen I think they were hoping it was going to be a big Zone and they could get those offensive linemen down the field but the defense sniffed it out forcing the incompletion it's fourth down and they'll try the field goal looks as if this will be a 51 yd attempt and he missed it no good and it is still a four-point deficit Texas state gets the football back and here comes the offense here's another opportunity Jesse to stretch out this lead after punting last time I think it goes back to your Playmakers reys I think it's finding the guys that have been working for you earlier on in this game and getting them the football yeah and there's obviously no need to panic I mean think about it you got the lead you got the football you got to be smart with the football make your plays put a good drive together here and the Bobcats want to crank the tempo running back searching for a hole good job running tough and behind his pads as he gets up to the 38 yd line listen that wasn't the greatest run in the world but it was very successful and your making me honor the run and another thing every time you run the football someone gets tackled there's physicality involved in the game so I like when offenses commit to the running the football no matter what the outcome is because those body blows do add up on third down going up top soft spot in the middle and perhaps a touchdown saving tackle as they gets him down at the 37 and you want to talk about his favorite receiver it might be everybody based on the number of guys getting touches and a chance to show off their hands in the passing game one quarter to go and might we have the makings of a classic fourth quarter [Applause] finish off the play fake on first down to throw he'll try to do it himself on the run and he'll slide to avoid the hit a Nifty pickup there you know QBs want to make those big plays they want to they want to put up the big stats but when nothing's there sometimes you just tuck the ball get a minimal gain I like the slide by the way too get down and don't take a big hit quick Tempo here for the offense to the air it's McLoud throws to the wide out oh he drops it that is a catch he makes 99 times out of a 100 but it'll be third down and hopefully that's not going to affect the quarterback's confidence going back to this guy later that was a catch he should have made he dropped it let's see what the QB does moving forward couldn't find his man last time now they'll have to convert third and four from the gun wants to pass unloads to the wide out got his man downfield and he gets it down to the four yd line before he's finally stopped a terrific run after the catch and I like it third down and short and this offense stays aggressive and now they're set up forget the field goal we're not looking for three now now set up in a first and goal trying to get a touchdown so this offense has the lead they have the ball they have the clock on their side and a chance perhaps to put it Out Of Reach fires into the end zone and it's intercepted a huge for fourth quarter play for this defense and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the pick dude talk about having to have it we needed to force the turnover we had to get the football back they're in such a good position to run out the clock try to win no sir our ball first down UTSA takes over and the offense ready to hit the field he'll start this drive firing lets it fly on the move it's complete a huge pickup they'll move the chains after he gets it to the 43 yd Line That's What's So Scary About This offense they've got guys in the perimeter that can change the game in one single play and you saw right there too much speed on the perimeter to create that explosive play the road runners want to pick up the tempo unloads quickly makes the grab and he's dragged down this quarterback right now is in a Groove and he's doing a nice job in pre- snap he's reading the coverage and he's getting an idea of where he wants to go with the football that's why the ball's coming out of his hands so quickly that's why he seems like he's in a great Rhythm right now offense gets set for second down discards a man haul down at the 38 yard line and a big pick up of 15 yards there and and the road runners will have it first and 10 Ed the play fake now to throw lets it fly deep downfield and it'll be intercepted in the end zone and that just kind of caps off this day it's been a day with not a lot of Rhythm not a lot of timing not a lot of guys on the same page and they weren't right there and the quarterback throws an INT and this one is not looking good Texas state has the football back and they'll go on offense so we've got a tight spot here David they'd love to run out the clock but all those timeouts staring at them yeah they got three timeouts on defense but I know a first first down ends this football game so I got to get my guys physical ready to roll yeah because you know this defense is going to be playing the Run they're going to be loading the box trying to get tackles using their timeouts to get the football back so this is going to come down to who's better in the trenches and now on second down for this offense movement here from the tight end on the ground trying to pull the plug on this clock May got it out to the 34 after getting five there man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute [Applause] warning hand off from the shotgun well this offense thinks that they have enough left in the tank here to run the football and run all the time off the clock they got the lead late didn't get the first down on that last one but it's not going to surprise anybody if they turn around and hand it off again here some misdirection with the counter a bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one we've reached a two-minute warning in this offense trying to milk this clock and keep time on their side what a big play this one could be tight game getting late third and long coming up to the air it's McLoud he finds his man and quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense and you see so many smart wide receivers so many smart tight ends nowadays that they know where the holes in those zones are and they work with their quarterback and they find them and they sit down in them and make big plays it's tough to sit back in zone against such smart players nowadays here's this offense with a fresh set of downs to the air on first first down fires to the big fella he steps out of bounds after a huge play but hang on just a second defense might get bailed out here by a flag so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty on first down here comes this offense they're going to throw it to start the drive gets it out fast and good C coverage by the defense just a short gain this is no surprise to defenses anymore everybody throws wide receiver screens and you could tell they were ready for it they saw the quick game they pounced on it got the wide receiver on the ground that's not the first time they've seen that route they'll try to kick it into overdrive clock's running second down coming he's looking to throw coming after him now adjusting gets away from one find some space they are finding soft spots in this defense he's got it down to the 25 man these are these are killers right late in the game in the fourth quarter you're getting to the quarterback but he does such a great job scrambling around when you do this you get extra first downs you start to wear those defensive linemen out so late in the game this could pay off great job getting the first down and they'll spike the ball to try to save as much time as they can line getting set on second down back to throw it's Macau got a man and he broke one tackle on the way to a solid pickup there the offense gets a quick timeout at this point every second is precious well the defense playing Zone coverage there they're taking away all of the QB's primary options down the field so he has to check it down to the drag running underneath can't make the connection on third down thanks to that tough hard noosed pass defense and now it's fourth down after that incompletion there is so much pressure now on this quarterback to come up with a big play they need need to score a touchdown they need to keep this drive alive to have any shot at winning this game but it all comes down to this play right here they're throwing for it on fourth down he's got it and they convert and they reacted well to the completion but it was too late to keep them from getting the first down so the fourth down call works out for them as they try to keep the momentum going yeah that play race is going to give them a lot of confidence here they are they're trying to scrape and Claw them eles back into this one and take the lead they needed that play going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone he wants to throw here on second down look for the score touchdown UT San Antonio and inside a minute to go and they've got the lead and how about this QB coming up clutch in a big moment got to have it you've dreamed about it your whole life he puts the ball on the money they make the catch take the lead with seconds remaining on the clock [Applause] if he can make this one the lead will be three and it's good and he's got the lead up to three late they covered half the field with a 50yd touchdown drive and the clutch late score that almost certainly will be the gamewinner lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive looking for an alley from inside his own 10 good job by the coverage unit to put a stop to that return got to get everybody lined up quickly time winding away and they've got to push the ball down the field comes out throwing on first down he can't find his man and the clock stops with six seconds left well you look at the clock they've got time for one more play but they're out of Hill Mary range here needing a touchdown to win this game this is going to be a last second last chance play that they practice by the way throughout the week it's going to involve probably a lot of laterals but we've seen crazier stuff happen in college football fires to the right got him and nobody's close they'll bring him down as he bulks up those numbers but not the most important one as they'll come up short in this game for for that's
