Cincinnati Reds VS New York Mets MLB live PLAY BY PLAY scoreboard 9/7/24

blue at first base he'll have the plate for the final game of the series tomorrow it's like a stage name related to cat cat Ballo here's El Dela Cruz he had a two-run homer last night is 23rd of the year he was his first as a right-and batter since early June so only hit six from this side of the plate but he took sha Mana deep last night Cruz having a d namic second Big League season already 23 home runs 62 stolen bases 64 extra base hits 95 runs scored back door curveball just missed low away two balls in a strike went right after with the fast ball trying to come in was sha manah missed out over the plate just such a dangerous exciting entertaining player another curveball this one set on the ground to Short Stop Lindor with a running toss to get his counterpart and they are two away it's interesting you mentioned that canana has been throwing a lot more change UPS as of late if you look at the numbers the Ops against his fast ball the Ops against his curveball are among the 10 worst among qualifiers but his change up has often been his best pitch and he's thrown more change UPS to right-and batters than all but two pitchers in the major leagues this year here's Tyler Stevenson and he takes the first pitch change up down for ball one you know Gary he went through a stretch where the curveball was being hit out of the ballpark and I think that's why he's trying to use that pitch in a different way get back in the count maybe first pitch strikes Stevenson fouls back fast ball and it's one and one Stevenson 0 for four last night having himself a solid year a career-high 18 home runs for the Reds catcher hitting third in the order the Reds were in it until August when they went 12 and 17 and fell out of it but they came to town having won four in a row after sweeping the Astros and the Mets cooled them down last night Cincinnati six games under 500 starting play today and Stevenson lift one to Right Center circling in his Bader and that retires the side 1 two three for kintana in the opening inning that's come to bat with no [Music] score e e show have top w one home run every 14 of bats this year two of them last night in a thrilling Mets Victory there's the Honda Mets starting lineup Frisco Lindor takes the first offering from Jacob junis Up and Away for ball one mandor riding a 34 game on base streak tied for the longest single season streak in Mets history de Alonzo had a 34 game streak in 2019 and he's facing a pitcher who he has own junis is from the game of never throwing anything straight you going to see a lot of Cutters a lot of Sliders mostly sliders throws that pitch almost half the time the door against Jun is 20 for 40 with six home runs slider had him flailing and it's two and one that's 20 for 40 with six home runs I've got a few hitters that have numbers like that against me it just makes me squeamish and he's looking to bun his way on with the third baseman espinol playing back so not feeling quite as confident as 20 for 40 with six home runs would make you think junis played the last two years with the Giants started this year with Milwaukee came over on a trade for Frankie montos at the deadline and he misses away with the Sinker and it's three and two junas was h a good portion of the year with a shoulder impingement and while on the injured list he got smoked by a batted ball in the neck fly ball out to left center field back in the Gap goes fredel he room on the warning track and he reels it in for the first out Red's defense is presented to you by Defender Stevenson again behind the plate De La Cruz has 27 errors this year 92 errors for this Red's team which has led to 43 unearned runs the Outfield though very fast very good good arms all the way around wind out of the Northwest blowing at about 15 milph blowing out toward right field might give a boost to the leftand power hitters Brandon Nemo one for five last night and he takes a slider for a strike and it's 0 and two junas throws his slider this year 47% of the time as the slider and misses one and two Jacob junis now 31 years old born in Jacksonville Arkansas grew up in Rock Falls Illinois swinging a miss and nmo down on strikes for the second out well the kiles heal for nmo after the allstar break and it still resonates at this time it's that fast ball upstairs when they get two strikes on them that's where they try to attack that's getting a little help from Houston the Astros shut out the Diamond Backs last night they just rallied for three runs in the fourth inning to go ahead of Arizona 4 to3 and a slider on the outside corner for a strike to Mark Vientos Vientos the last six games inting 458 he is just smoking hot and you can make the case that he's really been as consistent a player as the Mets have had this year and that's uh probably the most not shocking part but when you think of a young hitter you don't think of that consistency uh but he has been it's the longest over longest oer this year has been 0 for 11 there none of that right now and he hits this one off the end of the back to Center and fredle is right there and that retires aside one two three for junis no score after [Music] one e e e for the Reds and takes a curveball low and in for ball one steer one for three last night 86 runs batted in puts him ninth in the National League canana tries to pop him inside misses two balls and no strikes canana threw 11 pitches in a one two three opening inning coming off five good Innings against the white sock as last time out it wasn't easy for him he gave up nine base runners in five innings but only one earned run and earned him his 99th career Victory there are 18 active pitchers with 100 or more wins kintana try to join their ranks today curveball misses outside 3 and one most active victories belong to Justin Verlander with 260 sherzer 216 Kershaw 212 these are the only guys with more than 200 up and in ball four and steer becomes the first base runner of the game today's City Community home runs fan of the game is Tammy from Chatsworth Georgia good luck Tammy it's two from Georgia this week right they're coming over to our side ronning I mean hoodie weather all the fielders have sleeves on September baseball here we go I mean it got it got to be September weather all of a sudden like within 10 minutes that's right it was 75 78° when we got to the ballpark and now it's 65 and all of a sudden it feels like the postseason is encroaching Ty France 0 for four with three strikeouts last night he hits one to the right side and eligius with a beautiful stop out at second out at first double play oh wow Jose glacia spr rolling and then turning two no one likes infield defense more than I do benefited from it an entire career but when you see a play like that a base hit turned into two outs you're like I can't believe it way to go great save by Lindor in the middle and have now turned nine double plays in their last five games games and that got the highest degree of difficulty TJ Friel who had a big two-run Homer last night Ian he's playing shaded up the middle to go to his left and dive and then throw from the prone position Lindor to go pick it at his shoe tops Fredo with a little flare to left and that'll fall for a base hit so the first hit of The Game Belongs to TJ friedel one of only two left-handed batters in the lineup against kintana ball up and anyone who is a kind of hitter that sprays the ball over all over the field loves to spray the pitch [Music] up so friedel who spent some time on the injured list with a hamstring not running as much this year he's got eight Steals on the year Santiago espanol swings and misses at a change up nothing in one espanol 0 for four last night he was red hot for about two weeks for the Reds but now old for his last nine Reds about to make a lot of changes over the course of the Year J Jammer cond delario is hurt Christian and carosio strand is out for the year snap throw by Alvarez and he just got back safely boy they were going to have him but Pete when he wheeled to make the tag hit his glove on top of the bag which pushed it up and not across watch he tries to sweep this tag really quick and hits the bag which pops his glove up just a bit instead of having it drop right in front of the bag and in front of fredle so the Mets will not challenge ball on a strike to Espanol now the curve ball bounce foul one and two the Reds started out very hot this year and all kind of fell apart for them in August their entire starting rotation on the injured list or traded and that certainly has not helped I mean they're spending the last 20 plus games not knowing who's going to pitch tomorrow that's where they're at and that was the case for the first two games of this series and it's the case for tomorrow's game as well they used an opener yesterday they're using junis today who hasn't thrown more than four innings in a game this year David bills had to patch it together onew to espol and he HS It On The Ground toward the middle Lindor with a flashy play and but he has no play couldn't get the ball out of the glove to make the flip to Second and so it's an infield hit for espanol great range by Lindor just getting to that ball I think there were a lot of thoughts going through his head I thought he was going to try to shovel it from his glove then to decided the backhanded couldn't get the control of it and also knew the speed of fredle was not going to have a play at second smart hold on to it so back to back soft hits with two outs for the Reds and now here's the former met ahed Rosario who was 0 for three with three strikeouts last night two on and two out against canana tries to change up outside to Rosario ball one well the Brewers have lost three in a row they haven't lost four in a row all year they're the only team in the majors that hasn't but they've got a huge lead cruising to a division title I realize Cincinnati's only a game and a half up of the Bucks the Pirates the Cubs lost this afternoon they got shut out by the Yankees for the second straight day Cubs had been scoring runs in enormous bunches but not this week we curveball fouled off and by the way for the Yankees a they got Clark Schmidt back from the I when he pitched well today piggybacking with Neer Cortez but also the Yankees won their 82nd game they're 3 second consecutive winning season the second longest streak of all time behind the Yankees 39 straight years 1926 to 1964 remarkable good change up there by canana 2 and two I mean for all their ups and downs and they've had plenty of them this year they're hanging right in there right now in a virtual tie with the Orioles at top the AL East two out two on Two And The Rosario and the curveball bounced toward third of foul ball so the Yankees winning this afternoon they are for the moment even with the Orioles who are down two nothing to Tampa Bay in the fourth that's Zack effin pitching against his old team effin's won each of his first five starts for the Orioles he coming over in trade second start back off the injured list but down two nothing today Rosario playing for his third different team this year Rays Dodgers now the Reds and he goes down swinging on a high fast ball so four at bats for on met in this series and he struck out all four e e e Pete Alonzo leads off the home second inning and takes Sinker out of the strike zone for ball one p was one for four last night had a double that got the Mets going in the sixth inning takes another Sinker that runs inside two balls and no strikes Lonzo Jesse Winker and then JD Martinez for the Mets in the second against Jacob junis tries to 20- slider and catch the outside corner two and one Jas through 13 pitches in the first inning eight sliders that's about right two- slider there another one and he gets a swinging strike two and two he got a good one though I would throw a two then they'll throw a couple and then he'll come back with a fast ball up and he gets the top of the zone for strike three call so a onzo caught looking with the first out in the home second second strike out for junis Jacob junis began his career as a starting pitcher in Kansas City through over 170 Innings a couple of times won nine games on three occasions but in the second part of his career has become primarily a reliever this is only his third start of the Season his last outing was his longest of the year pitch-wise he threw 62 pitches in a 3 and 2/3 Innings relief stint against Milwaukee on Sunday Jesse Winker the former red tops one foul it's 0 and2 Jesse spent 5 years with Cincinnati his Ops in those 5 years was 888 yeah 413 games as an Allstar for the Reds in 2021 hey lines went toward the middle but right there is De La Cruz the snag it two out so junice has retired the first five and now JD Martinez who returned from the paternity list last night to go one for four drove in a run five hits in 15 career at bats against junis the Sinker just misses low ball one that's have dominated the Reds in recent years since 2014 the Mets are 41 and 20 against Cincinnati the year they won the national league penon in 2015 they swept the season series from the Reds and wound up clinching the division in Cincinnati Lucas Duda hit a first inning Grand slam and they cruise from there two and two to Martinez young Steve gel first year with us and his first drenching yeah he gets out of the way now he's become brighter about that that's Ball Four as Martinez stopped the swing or did he no though did the home playay umpire call that a swing I think he did hey called that himself did not ask for help from roock Baloo the first space umpire well raain Ramon Deus is one of those umpires that will always be involved in something in a game did he go didn't have to call it but called by the home plate umpire irritates the hitters when they do do that the hitters feel as though the angle for the first base umpire is better so let them call it hard enough to watch the Pitch try to call it first strike and then also called the swing not easy and yet the home PL umpire is given that power yeah of course to call it himself if he feels he had a good look at it J say glacius would be next and JD swings through the fast ball for strike three so six up and six down for junis with three strikeouts no score after [Music] two e e e e I'm sure it's some point he wanted to come get it but they just decided too late and by the time he got it he put as much on it as he could but fry got it so El lead off base runner for the Reds fley with 19 stolen bases on the year Jonathan Indie of the batter three hits against canana not a single one has been hit hard and India takes fast ball inside for ball one India fly out to right his first time up hitless in his last nine at bats Bry without too big of a lead at first and India takes a change up outside and canana falls behind 2 and0 Reds do a lot of running they're second in the majors in stolen bases LED by Ellie De La Cruz but they got a lot of other guys that run fry and Spencer steer yeah steer's got 24 stolen bases one last [Music] night T of behind on India 3 and0 and that's on the corner 3 and one t is pretty quick to the plate not that easy to run on only six steals against him this year in 27 starts that's hit hard toward the hole nice backand play Lindor out at second glacius to First and they turn another Gem of a double play oh those two Lindor and a glaus 6432 out well they are just magicians that's what they are in the field they're turning a hard hit ball it looks like a base hit into an easy two outs great backand stands up fires that ball from the side and the glaz just makes it look easy and that just renews the MVP chance in the ballpark other the way the pitcher gets a piece of that too 18 ground ball double plays now generated by canana this year Tops on the staff but having those two to turn them that's a just an extra icing on the cake and have now turned 10 double plays in their last five games it's been a big part of this eight game winning streak Ellie De La Cruz swings and misses it a change up and it's one and two Del La Cruz grounded out the short his first time [Music] up one two coming too high with the fast ball two and two every day headed for 162 De La Cruz with a half swing he went around and canala has a strike out to finish off the third after another tremendous double [Music] play e e e for a go-ahead hit in the sixth inning and Bluffs the Bunton takes a strike from Jacob junis as we start the bottom of the third junis has retired the first six so acius Alvarez and Vader the lower third of the Mets batting order this will be the 66th consecutive inning at the end of which the Mets will not trail that ties the longest streak in the majors this year the Phillies had a 66 inning streak back in April so the Mets not only are winning but they're staying ahead or even game after game week ago Friday the last time they trailed they were down one nothing to the white socks and eaus goes after the high fast ball and junis has his fourth strike out the first seven batters well junas has tipped his hand hasn't he he's telling you that he's behind in the count he's going to throw a slider first pitch he's probably going to throw a slider and if he does get ahead of you with two strikes he's going to elevate the fast ball he's done it four different times already there's Francisco Alvarez who's on base twice last night a walk and a hit by pitch also lined out to center field so he had some better at bats those have been accumulating over the last few days now looking for some results and takes a slider out of the strikes Zone one and one tops one foul on a sinker one ball two strikes they go to the sixth inning in Houston Astros five Diamondbacks three Arizona all of a sudden is cooled off losing six of their last nine and the Mets are only a game and a half behind the Diamondbacks for the second wild card spot as the uh hockey mascots go at it that's what hockey guys do I I want to see One Mascot pull the Jersey over the head of the other that would certainly be revealing wouldn't it he might be revealing too much well kind of like with Vientos last night that's right Alvarez pops one up on the infield converging toward the mound who's going to get it the third baseman espanol takes ch charge two [Music] out Harrison Bader up Gary if he wants to see more of this rotation or play a bigger part in this rotation he needs to start hitting a little better cuz he does everything else so well he was having a great offensive season till about three weeks ago but now just two hits his last 42 at bats and 0 for his last 14 he grounds that one down to Third and two hopper for espanol and three perfect innings in the books for Jacob junis after three no [Music] score e e e field line off the bat of Stevenson he's going to try for two two and he's going to make it without a throw that is four hits for the Reds and not a single one of them has been hit hard that one just plunked off the end of the bat and inside the first base line a double for Stevenson Stevenson's really worked on his swing it's very short tight right to the ball but this one just a lucky hit off the end of the bat first pitch change up and dunks it inside the right field line so a runner in scoring position for the Reds there's Spencer steer who walked his first time up and he takes curveball for a strike nothing in one steer hitting 329 this year with runners in scoring position almost 100 points higher than his overall average that's why he has 86 runs batted in change up off the plate did not swing one ball one strike one of the things that has kept kintana in good fettle this year is the fact that he's been great with Runners and scoring position overall average against canana is 246 but the average with runners in scoring position is 186 and no Gary he's had to be because he's had a lot of of base runners um goes back to the stat you said about the double plays well top 10 in the league and walks allowed top 10 in the league and hit batsman Top 10 in the league in home runs allowed swinging a miss good change up there and it's two and2 and he's leaning more and more on that change as Alvarez's throw got away and glasius backed it up Alvarez has two to three of these throws a game first the change up from kintan he's got a nice feel for it today [Music] two and two to steer with Tai France on Deck DED the sink the change up and a missed low and away three and two for the season that change up is a 20% pitch for canana so far today a 30% pitch oh it's a good fastball hitting team we documented the that yesterday so you got to counter that with something soft three and two to steer and a look back at second Stevenson is not going anywhere catcher you know New Gear right for Alvarez with the city connect it's a really cool looking colors I don't know what the colors are but it's great looking purple and green okay there you go sorry 32 popped it up foul Alvarez hoping for room right at the screen he's got r one out big out for kintana as steer fouls out one away you really feels a picture that you stole one here at City Field when you get a popup to the catcher in your scorecard just does not happen very often the way the wind's blowing now it might help keep it in the ballpark wind blowing from the Third Base Line out toward right field out of the West Northwest so one out Stevenson still at second and here's France who hadit a sharp ground ball into a spectacular double play and he takes at the top of the zone of fast ball for a strike nothing in one Bran's playing his 33d game for the Reds since the Mariners let him go he's hitting over 300 since coming to Cincinnati he struggling with the Mariners swinging a Miss at a fast ball Mariners have turned their off around lately as you look at canana and that change up usage Seattle scor 28 runs in their last three games that's like a cornicopia going two to France and the change up misses down one and two you know one of the big uh losses to the Reds I believe and carna on strand who is their first baseman um I think he's going to be a fine hitter in this league reminds me of a like a a lighter version of Albert P Holtz but injured this season re bug has hit the Reds hard particularly with their pitchers but some key offensive performance as well jamer condaria was a big pickup for them to plug a hole at third base onew coming to France lays off the change up and it's two and two TJ Friel the on Deck B two pitches soft and away let's see if he takes a shot up and in to France with that fast ball tries to curve ball and he kicks away from Alvarez and over to third goes Stevenson so a wild pitch advancing Stevenson to third the change up tried to back hand there by Alvarez he's not able to squeeze it and the ball gets by and the catcher is Stevenson dirt ball read to third see when the Mets play their infield look like they're going to stay about halfway with a slow runner at third base three and two to France with one out he fouls off a high fast ball to stay in it Ty France was was a 34th round draft pick by the Padres out of San Diego State so they've got France who was drafted in the 34th round and fre line deck wasn't drafted at all see that very often 3-2 coming tap back to canana that'll hold Stevenson two out another big out for kintana with a runner and scoring position another big out on that change up gets soft contact back to him he's got a lot of soft contact in this game like the way he checked the runner and then popped that ball out of his glove I wouldn't recommend that the checking the runner was perfect spot on buttoned up until the uh the carnival move well you know he's usually pretty buttoned up no he's awesome he's not a not a showbo by any means but this was kind of a showb play he showed it to him and then flipped it out I would not recommend that because if you ever do drop it then you're just embarrassed Fredo bloop the base hit to left his first time up Corners in middle infielders back with two out and the curveball out of the strike zone one and one fredel came into the game last night hitting just 185 against lefties but he homered against manah last night had a base it against canana his first time up today and that fast ball just missed outside two balls in a strike I mean manah was one hanging curveball away or sweeper away from Seven Innings a two-run ball yeah I talked to him this morning he said hey it was two bad pitches and we won the game I was just afraid you because he came on with us from The Dugout the other night maybe we messed him up oh he said he'd be happy to come back yeah yeah I told him it was a highlight of our receiving so far by far you know if you get somebody else to talk we always like that two and two to fredel with Stevenson at third and two out on the ground Alonzo in front of it he'll take it himself side retired kintana Works around the lead off double and keeps this game scoreless in the [Music] fourth e e e standing the sweaters are nice hockey sweaters home fourth inning Second Time Around the batting order for Jacob junis has been perfect so far and gets his first pitch slider on the outside corner to Lindor Francisco hit one to the warning track and left Center his first time up see what the Mets do Second Time Around against junis who misses with a change up and it's one and one and Lindor lifts this one to left field this one playable for steer so 10 up and 10 down for junis question is going to be how far junis can go in this game what up Brandon Williamson last night work as the bulk reliever and go four and 2/3 this is very reminiscent reminiscent of the start that junis had for Cincinnati on August 27th against the Oakland Athletics for perfect Innings and then he was pulled yep Nemo struck out his first time takes fast ball high for ball one the Astros have tacked on a couple guess who Jordan Alvarez four for four fourth h of the game two-run Homer he had two homers Yesterday can't get him out no holes he never getss talked about because he the way he goes about it kind of a quiet demeanor he is impossible to pitch to I was saying to somebody watching that game earlier today Nemo turns on one down the right field line headed toward the pole but foul hited about 10 rows up in the second deck but it just turned outside the pole it was so high though that it was above the foul pole so it makes a little more difficult for the first base umpire to call I [Music] think got the rookie first place umpire Brock Balo who's used to short foul Poes umpiring in the miners but I think that was pretty clearly fou Brandon doesn't think it was foul but I think that might be more of he needs one right yeah the home runs have kind of dried up since the All-Star [Music] break so just a long strike two and two and he lifts this one out to left field and steer is there two out he's got 14 straight games without a home run so the Met still trying to crack Jacob junis two out and nobody on for Mark Vientos who flyed out to Center his first time and takes fast ball on the outside edge so it's now the Astros 10 and the Diamondbacks four swing and a miss one and two to Vientos well he can throw it wherever he wants to if he wants to throw it out of the strike zone he will if he needs to throw for a strike he can he's got just enough on that fast ball to throw it back after you've seen so many sliders coming up and in right here maybe change the pitch he change his mind back to the slider two and two to [Music] Vientos and Mark punks one the other way into the netting still two and two [Music] 2 two just missed didn't get the call looked like it might have been a strike but Vientos able to live another pitch well the catcher sitting inside so he did not get the pitch called outside and now ball four on a slider the Miss down and the Mets have their first base runner of the [Music] day so bentos AB board with two out here's Alonzo struck out looking his first time up [Music] takes that Sinker low and away for ball one junice's high pitch count came in his last outing a relief appearance last Sunday through 62 pitches he's at 54 now nobody up behind him in the bullpen and he gets that slider in for a strike one and one wi in doubt he's going to throw a slider go with the pitch that got you here Alonzo flies one out to right but this one's playable for Frey onto the warning track to grab it that retires the side three Fly ball outs in the inning no scorer after [Music] four e e e hit through the first four Innings by Jacob junis meanwhile Jose kintana has worked around a couple of threats Santiago espanol leads off and takes curveball down for ball one as we start the fifth inning espanol hit a roller to short stop that he beat out for an infield hit in the second inning and he pops the fast ball for a strike one and one lower third of the order for the Reds espinal and Ahmed Rosario and Jake fry in the top of the fifth and a pop up into shallow right glacius out Winker in Winker calling one [Music] out we'll say he wants to put himself in position to be part of a postseason rotation yeah you know he was the Mets opening day starter this year but other guys have outperformed him and he knows what the situation is and he wants very much to be a part of it if the Mets are able to get to October in the last couple of times out things have gotten better for him and it's it's so interesting to watch veteran pitchers make midseason adjustments but that's really what Kitana has done yes he has um he had a brilliant stretch over about N9 10 starts uh where he was at the best of his game Rosario strikes out again I Rosario's at five advat in this series and he struck out all five I think you have to remember as you see this curveball good one back door from kintana quintana's been that pitcher the last half dozen years that teams acquire at the trading deadline to help them over the hump if they're trying to get to the postseason now he's on the team the whole year last year he didn't get to pitch the first half of the season because of a rib injury and and coming to a new team that was a very difficult position for him to be in but he pitched extremely well coming down the stretch last year although it led to nothing as far as postseason was concerned now he's on a team that's thriving and he wants to be part of the mix one one to fry thought it was very interesting pitcher is in a similar spot to the Yankees Neer Cortez today they bring him in in relief and after the game he spouts off about how he feels dissed about being moved to the bll P rounded up the first Baseline Alonzo's there to play inside retired bad form after a two- nothing win by the way you would thing halfway through no score we do not mess up your name e e e Jacob junis who picks up right where he left off for a pitch slider Winker at a soft liner to short his first time up Mets her without a hit through the first four Innings Wier tops one foul on a change up and it's over and two Winker Martinez and eaus trying to break through against the veteran right-hander Jacob junis making just his 11th appearance and only his second start for the Reds since they got him in a trade for Frankie Montas at the deadline SS the fast ball and it's one and two so they traded montos hunter green is hurt Andrew Abbott's hurt Graham Ashcraft is hurt nicad Doo is hurt that's their entire starting rotation and that's why the reds are searching for pitchers every day and they got a great bulk relief effort from Brandon Williamson last night and they're getting a terrific start from junis today that's his full season between Milwaukee and Cincinnati all good couple of months on the iil ler fouls went off his foot on a slider boring in on him it's interesting Williams was so good yesterday that Carlos mza was telling us the reason he put Jose glaus up there is he wanted David Bell to take him out Y and he did it worked sent up a glacius to bat for Winker they took out Williamson brought in Buck farmer who gave him three straight hits and the Mets got the lead a little bit high with the fast ball it's two and two to Winker Jesse started the day eighth in the National League in on base percentage at 368 one of the lowest Chase rates of any hitter in the game so he has won more than his share of walks this year to go with a 267 average and 14 home runs eighth pitch of the back coming from junis and he hits it sharply but right at De La Cruz and that's the first out in the home fifth New York Mets baseball on SNY is brought to you by Coca-Cola and Maes stop by the Coca-Cola Corner through the end of the season and try Ma's carne asada or chicken tinga quesadilla both pair perfectly with an nice cold Coca-Cola zero sugar should Curry some favor with my e and get some food over here one out here's JD Martinez that's a high fly ball in the center field but it's not going to carry and back goes Freel he's there to get it two out a few solidly struck balls against junis today but Martinez got under two [Music] out wait till you have the the ad for L Berard Den he's going straight to the first basement FR are are they advertising on our Sho I don't know there it's still in the works jary I think we have a better shot with Nathan's fries if we want to go French we could work on it someone can call Eric B over there and see if we can get something going oh2 to eaus who struck out his first time up and he gets decked you know glaus is the type of hitter that's off the plate but he really kind of for today's hitter Dives in and wants to really hit the ball up the middle and when you come in like that that ball up and in is going to chase you and that one did he got out of the way [Music] though HS one down the right field line slicing toward the corner a fair ball and glacia just a second he's standing there with a double the Met's first hit of the game elius after getting knocked down goes the other way and dumps one out of the right field corner for a two-base hit off the bat I thought that ball would curve foul but somehow just stayed true enough to land right on the line and you're right Gary after to getting dusted and staying in there putting your nose in there and hitting the ball the other way for a double so the Mets with their first hit their first runner in scoring position and Francisco Alvarez will try and get him in fouls off a first pitch fast ball nothing in one Alvarez popped up in the third basem his first time up getting just 213 with runners in scoring position and it takes fast ball on the bottom of the zone at own [Music] two so just got aead on eaus 0 and2 now he's 0 and2 on Alvarez who lifts one foul junis with a season High 72 pitches and they've got the bullpen cranking behind him trying to nurse him through this fifth inning although that was the hardest pitch he's thrown all day 93 mph Milo Pagan in the bullpen Alvarez tries to lay off the slider but he went around strike three Mets get their first hit but cannot score five strikeouts for junis no score after [Music] five e e e sixth inning Jonathan India leads off against Jose kintana and goes after first pitch change up nothing and one starting his third time through the Cincinnati batting order to 71 one pitches through five for canana help out by a couple of spectacular double plays along the way one of those turned against India in the third he also flyed out so he's 0 for two today 0 for four so far in this series fouls back a high fast ball and it's one and two Jonathan indan national league rookie of the year in 2021 the latest of eight Reds who won the Rookie of the Year award since it was introduced in 1947 Chris Sabo in 1988 sideline reporter for the Reds Annie sabbo his daughter Matt Zachary traded to the Mets the next season in the Tom saer deal on the inside corner an India caught looking he was turning out of the way and Ramon De Jesus rang him up fourth strike out for canana look at some of that great Mets defense well this is one of the many reasons that they're in the street you have a veteran pitcher out there you know how valuable that is that he can throw strikes and let the ball be put in play because he knows he can catch it Del Cruz hammering one foul a little hot for the ball boy to handle nobody hits the ball harder than Dela Cruz that was a 107 foul ball it's grounded to short and struck out in this game one for six in the series a two-run homer last night and canana just missed outside a ball on a strike Sam Maul is up in the bullpen for the Reds there's a good change up by canani he's a nasty one today junis has already throwing more pitches than he has in any outing this year there's that change up from kintana it's a strike it looks like or appears to The Hitter and he struck him out went right back to the change up to get DEA Cruz back-to- back strikeouts for canana to start the sixth let's check in with the studio Gary apple as a game break brought to you by your local Honda dealers Gary [Music] Tyler Stevenson lifts one foul Stevenson hit a double softly along the right field line in the fourth that was leading off the inning in canana has not allowed another base runner since eight in a row pops the outside corner Got The Swinging strike and it's 0 and two pitching with more confidence than we've seen kintana in quite some time these starting pitchers are on a [Music] roll o and2 to Stevenson away with a change up one ball two strikes has the curveball and misses low he has not throwing a lot of curve balls the last few Innings he's being very careful with him too when he does throw two two coming to Stevenson and just a shade low with that Sinker and it's three and two he had set him up all he had to do is deliver that pitch should surprise Stevenson looked like he was sitting on a change up from 0 and2 to three and two and that missed low as well and Stevenson's on with the two out walk so canana issues his second walk of the day and Alvarez out to try and settle him down I think what happened here Gary is that after a long battle a long that bat that turns into a walk I think that it's known now for Alvarez with a veteran pitcher to go out there and just it's not really to calm him down he's a veteran guy he knows what's going on it's really to give him a blow that way he's got a home run on his Ledger against kintana two for n against him in his career Steven no threat to run at first but Katana will throw over anyway he's only about a step off the bat and steer hits a curveball out to center field and Vader's right there waiting for it side retire six scoreless innings for Jose kintana [Music] e e e Sam Maul is on Maul Maul's on that's espanol giving the bunt to Bader Harrison Bader takes the fast ball for a strike Sam mul came over from the A's last summer and he has been terrific since putting on a Red's uniform Vader grounded out to third basees first time up Lindor on deck and he hits one in the air deep right center field back goes three to the warning track and it's out of here Harrison Bader breaks the ice with an opposite field home run what a way to break out of a slump Bader's 11th home run of the year and it's one- nothing New York you know if you envision a championship season at some point you got to get contributions from just about everybody and Vader has been a struggle he knows that the team knows it nonetheless the first big hit of the game ban had been 0 for 15 two for his last 43 and his home run puts the Mets in front Lor is 0 for two today and he bounces one foul batting right-handed for the first time in this game boy that has to feel awfully good for Bader he's been doing so much extra work in the cage trying to get himself right righted he's kiddy in there why wouldn't he be most of his home runs are pulled you don't see him hit him out to the opposite field that often got a little help to Right Center yeah wind certainly has helped the ball going in that direction mul misses outside with a slider and it's one and two so Jacob junis goes five innings no runs one hit Maul comes in first batter home run and he's sling one outside a slider that wouldn't catch the back door and it's two and two junis did his job no runs one hit one walk five strikeouts 73 pitches over five innings Lor trying to extend his Club record tying 34 game on base streak goes after a high fast ball and fouls it back for the first time in maybe a month yesterday he had some not great ADV bats L the game right that's right and the first couple of bats today have not been great but that was a good swing there and he plunks one shallow right that's going to fall just foul almost got himself a lucky hit there Bader's first opposite field home run of the season Ball's supposed to be in it's up we know that he damages fast balls up in the strike zone and the line drive the right center field Hallelujah good waiting for you and the side swing asked for time Brandon Nemo waiting on Deck there only the third home run Sam muls given up this season in 48 appearances and a Full Count to Lindor [Music] 3-2 coming and that's wide ball four and Lindor is on base streak is extended to 35 that is a new Mets single season [Music] record e about 40 minutes from starting their game against the Bluejays Mets have taken a lead here in the sixth inning Nemo's 0 for two today and bluffing a bunt takes outside ball one third baseman espinol was playing in as though he was expecting a bunt with Neo facing the Leander Vientos and Alonzo to follow they've got a right-hander up in the bullpen this is Maul's third batter espol Creeps in closer and a throw over to First and Lindor was almost leaning the wrong way thenor took a little uh step and a half more of a lead was he running no he just wanted to get the throw over from the pitcher he has not been running much lately 26 Steals on the year in tight and Nemo gets nicked by the pitch and the mens have two men on the 12th time nimo's been hit this year it just grazed them and the Mets have had the first three reach here in the sixth well just maybe caught a piece of his equipment [Music] Freddy Benavides the uh they're going to challenge the call I mean it doesn't look like it hits them but the reaction from nmo was so immediate and I think the reaction from De Jesus as well he must have heard something yeah I think it just grazed that that guard I mean it it Fel cow across see the question is is if the home pled umpire hears something yes the people in the replay Center who are looking at it do not have the same benefit right so why don't they have a conversation you would think right but there is no conversation there should be one yeah I mean the Jesus should be able to tell the replay umpire hey I heard whatever it is he heard yeah did remone hear something to the crew chief let's see if we can hear it I mean it sounds like a double flick now right I mean like I said it is so faint and grazes field stands run was hit by pitch Cincinnati loses their CH so there's the citizen play Under review a quick decision from the replay Center where Dania and Ron Pula are the crew chiefs this week David bill on his way out to the mound so after mul gets up a home run a walk and a hit by pitch with Vientos coming up Bel will go to a right-hander to try to keep this game in [Music] check called to the bullpen Roxy by Nissan shop nissanusa.com one nothing New York we'll be right back and here's another one I believe went off the scoreboard e e e e sky for boating but it appears the reain is pass Carson spires is on to pitch Dem Mark bentos with two aboard and nobody out and Vientos takes fast ball for a strike Carson spes nephew of onetime met Phill spes Greenville South Carolina all the spes go to Clemson he was a non-drafted free agent which was n as big a deal the year that he was signed because it was 2020 and they only had five rounds in the draft but red signed him that year coming out of Clemson the entos after his two home run game last night has fly out and walked the door at second nmo at first with nobody out and a slider off the plate a ball and a strike to Vientos get Alonzo on Deck Sam La faced three batters a home run a walking hit by pitch and now spire's trying to bail him out of a bigger mess India trying to keep Lindor close and Vientos got jammed and Pops it up infield fly R will be invoked the batter is out and India grabs it one away spers has given up runs in four of his last five lead Bings CH made nine starts for E the Reds had so many injury problems with their rotation here Alonzo hit one with a warning track and right as last time up and Pete it's one up the middle that's a base hit Lor around third he'll come in to score Nemo stops at second Pete Alonzo right up the middle for an RBI single and it's two nothing New York 79th RBI from Pete big hit for Pete right there very unusual up the middle India was going for it but then gave up on it like he thought De La Cruz was going to come watch how he goes after it stops I think honestly Ronnie he went to cover and then he he was backing away his momentum was taking him away from the play yeah I don't think he had trouble changing direction I mean if you're going to hold a runner like that you have to get yourself set right when you return to your position Winker 0 for two a soft liner to short and a grounder to short nmo at second Alonzo at first and a fast ball strike one and one got to feel good for Pete important hit here in the sixth see the numbers for Winker 337 this year with Runners and scoring position even better since joining the Mets and he flies one down the left field line a long run for steer and he gets there to make the catch caught it in Fair territory and then went across and hit the sidewall nice play by steer using his speed for the second out steer does a nice job out there remember when he first came up he's played some mfield he played Short Stop last year and then they moved him to the Outfield to make room for all their talented middle infielders makes the play cushion himself gets the ball in so now two out and two on with two runs home and here's JD Martinez and JD takes first pitch fast ball for a strike JD is struck out and flyed out 0 for two just one hit in his last 14 Advance let's look at India again on that Alonzo hit holding the runner on and he leaves his position and as he's going left now he's got to come back to the right and it's almost like he just had too much momentum going away from the play I mean he was still moving but the pitch was thrown yeah you got to stop so that you're in that ready position that all infielders get in I surprised he didn't dive for it also with the runner on second try everything to keep it in the infield onew coming and well outside and Stevenson did well to keep that from going to the back stop two and [Music] two say glacius would be next that's have had just three hits today Vader's home run gave the Mets the lead Alonzo's hit made it two nothing and now Martinez lays off a slider and it's three and two that'll give rers ahead start demo and Alonzo with three and two and two out whip pen JD had a big hit yesterday to drive in a run took it to right field as he so often does and he hits this one the left steer W get this one it's down for a base hit it goes to the wall Nemo is in Alonzo right behind him JD Martinez pulls in at second with a two-run double and the Mets double their lead it's four [Music] nothing well what a difference it makes when you have the runners going and they have a hitter of the quality Martinez up hooks this into left field and as soon as it was down you knew both Runners Nimo and then Alonzo running on the play and Peak gets a good start that's as fast as Peak goes nice running to score the fourth run got quite ahe of steam going there so four ones are in the first three charged to Maul the last one to spers and now Ela is the eighth man up in the inning get a double into the right field corner for the Met's first hit in the fifth and he fouls back a high fast ball and it's one and one you know the numbers on a glaus two outs runners in score ing position sitting 500 this year including a big hit that gave the Mets the lead last night Adam adino up in the bullpen don't know if he's coming in to start the seven yeah the long inning might take kintana out of this game well one thing that this inning has done it has put canana in good position to win his 100th career game on his 99th last Saturday in Chicago and now pitcher of record on the long side today laus lays off a slider and it's three and [Music] one and eaus fouls off a high fast ball three and two [Music] have scored four runs against the Reds Bullpen last night they have four runs against the Reds bullpen in this sixth inning and aaas fights off that inside fast ball [Music] seventh pitch of the atat coming and eaus takes strike three called and the inning comes to an end but a 4-run inning for the Mets Harrison Bader left the match and it's 4 nothing after [Music] six e e e J kintana now with the lead for the first time out to pitch the the seventh Ty France takes first pitch fast ball for a strike France is 0 for two get into a spectacular double play in the second and a comebacker with a runner at third base in the fourth and a good change up by canana that's been his good to weapon today tyone Taylor in the game in right field replacing Jesse Winker for defense after France it's TJ freed and Santiago espanol facing canana who has given up just four hits over the first six Innings walk two struck out five time to try to get through seven innings for the fourth time this season he went eight in a start early this season two two coming pops one inside he misses three and two still feels strong but don't forget what got you here that good change up has gotten most of the outs 3-2 to France got through another fast ball up in the zone he fouled it [Music] off they've gone to the ninth in Houston Astros 11 Diamond Backs five 3-2 from canana and France fouls up another one so if if the Astros hang on and win the mens have a chance to pull within a half game of Arizona for the second wild card spot Raves starting about 20 minutes against the Blue Jays in Atlanta Arizona and San Diego were so hot that you were wondering could they continue to stay hot over 75 80 games that's hard to do eighth pitch of thebat and France HS a three Hopper to second base handled by glacius one out well the domond backs after that long hot streak have lost six of nine on the verge of making it seven of 10 and that's now with getting some of their pieces back Christian Walker is back catel Marte came back last night but they haven't gotten the starting pitching they uh usually get one of the real things that has not gone right for Arizon is that they waited all season for Eduardo Rodriguez to get healthy and since he's gotten healthy he really hasn't pitched the way they had hoped exactly the the left-handers have hurt them Jordan Montgomery did not Pitch well almost all season which uh got him in the bullpen Zack gallen's been kind of 5050 this year Merill Kelly is just coming back uh from injury and F's still a young pitcher Brandon fought who's still learning how to pitch you know saw him in Arizona he's got good stuff so he had a rough night last night they need need to get where their pitchers are pitching kind of like the Met's pitchers are pitching right now well they expected that you know they had a stretch in the middle of the Season where Rodriguez was out Kelly was out Montgomery was out they figured okay when we get those guys back we're going to really be solid but it hasn't worked out that way their offense has really carried them two and one to Friel who's one for two today at a basee hit back in the second and he gets it on his hands and Pops it up Alvarez gives a look but that'll go out of play and it's two and [Music] two t at 98 pitches as high this year has been [Applause] three two two coming to fredle in there for a call strike three two men down six strikeouts for canana Fredo saying those two pitches he called that were not strikes the Jesus had enough of it let's watch the last pitch to see who was as an argument here that's a good pitch it's a strike yeah so two out and nobody on for Santiago espanol 100th pitch coming from canana and it's grounded behind the bag at third nice play the OS throw to first and it skips by Alonzo and goes into the camera well and espanol will get second base terrific stop by Vientos but a long hop that skipped by Alonzo it'll be an infield hit for espanol and then an error on Vientos allowing him to ADV well great job of getting to it on the backand this momentum carried him into foul territory and he'll get with experience to a place where he'll be able to throw a longer hop that was in between no chance for Peete and so Kitana comes out of the game after 100 pitches six and two thir scoreless Innings and gets a well-deserved ovasion [Music] [Music] e e lead in the top of the seventh and Adam adino will come on for the first time in more than a week heavily used early in the season not as much work for adino especially with the starting pitchers pitching the way they have 8 days since he last appeared on August 30th well Ben will be a pinch hitter batting for Ahmed Rosario who had struck out seven straight times going back to Thursday Benson's first appearance in this series he's been struggling espanol takes off for third and steals standing up so on ovo's first pitch espanol steals his 10th base of the Year B heading just 193 for the year 14 home runs and slider in for a strike and it's one one last time alabino pitched it was in Chicago the first game of that series a week ago Friday venson doesn't have a lot of hits but he does have power has a fast ball for a strike one and two de entos with that aror moment ago the Mets had not made an error in seven straight games it have been their longest streak since the start of the 2023 season alabino trying to make it moot one two to Benson and the slider just missed and he held the swing two and two Pana went six and 2/3 five hits two walks six strikeouts a wild pitch ovino trying to put the top of the seventh to bed two two struck him out adino threw a fast ball by the pitch in Benson side retired four [Music] nothing e e e e Reese Hines has come into to play right field and there you see Jake fry playing center field trying to get a clarification on that in any event frel is done for the day car inspires who gave up a couple of hits allowed two inherited Runners to score in one of his own and the six stays on and gets his first slider in for a strike to Francisco Alvarez well Reese Hines the right fielder the guy that was hotter than anyone's ever been for one week he had um something like 12 extra basee hits in his first 10 games I'm making that up but it's something incredible like that he got off to an incredible start in his big league career and then they started throwing him breaking balls and you know what happens after that Alvarez tries to lay off the slider and and he stopped it in time two and one Harrison Bader who got the whole mess started for the Mets in the sixth inning with a home run is on deck and then Francisco Lindor it's a final in Houston the Diamondbacks lost for the second straight day to the Astros 11 to5 so with a victory the Mets can pull within a half game of Arizona Danny Young up in the Mets bullpen that's it's inside ball four and Alvarez draws a [Music] [Laughter] [Music] walk so the Mets of a leadoff base runner Ry Cru Proto of the week kaai stendall he's not the cameraman in this shot because he's the guy getting married congratulations to K wow that's great congratulations to Taylor also so we're doing a game without married Kai we're doing a game without Pete and Kai stle stallis without stle that's a that's bold move by Us St the truth we don't often go stess here's Bader who homered for the first run of the game in the sixth snapped an 0 for 15 stretch his 11th home run of the year his first one this season to the opposite field 12th time in his career he's hit a home run to right and spers gets a generous strike call on the inside corner one and one okay so here's the Reese Hines start to his career he went 11 for 23 with three doubles a triple and five homers nine extra base hits in his first 23 at bats you were close skipped in out of the dirt by Stevenson is two and one it's a party it it's just it's a party yes it is in the gloaming I need a few light bulbs in that part of the St 2-1 coming at well inside spes all of a sudden can't find the plate he walked Alvarez now behind on Vader 3 and [Music] one Francisco Lindor waiting on Deck Mets have had it only four hits in this game but they lead four nothing and Bader takes a strike three and two Andor is extended as on base streak today but has not yet extended his hitting streak which started today at 16 a career high 3-2 it's fouled off Jacob junis went the first five innings for Cincinnati and he was marvelous no one's one hit Sam Maul faced three batters didn't retire any of them got charged with three runs I don't think it's raining is it couple of drops maybe 3-2 got him looking bayner called out on strikes for the first out of the inning second strike out for Maul for spers and now Lindor Francisco wton scored in the sixth his 100th run scored of the [Music] season it's a nice Milestone yes it is always what it tells you is that your team's having a pretty good year helping at one to [Music] Lindor it's the third time in lindor's career he scored 100 or more runs 2018 he scored 129 runs for Cleveland gets under this one and Pops it up into shallow right India retreating hindes coming on but it's India to make the catch two out coming up at 11:00 tonight it's Honda Sports night we'll have much more on the baseball story and get you ready for Jets and Giants openers Honda Sports night tonight every night 11 or thereabouts right here on SNY now nmo who was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning 0 for two he fouls back first pitch fast ball from [Music] spes it's always nice when they play a little remotes in the ballpark always I still say that when they do the karaoke single alongs they have to put Rockaway Beach up there Perfect singal song a queen's band a queen's local easy to sing great lyrics paulse strike to nmo and it's 0 and2 chewing out of rhythm on my bubble gum sun is out and I want some you got the folks right down the hall here tell them to put it on the docket they've heard me they've not responded but no ground ball pass the mount tough play indiia with the slide and he gets to it but can't make a play Dela Cruz wound up with a baseball but it's an infield hit for nio they're trying so hard to take away the hole from nmo that a simple ground ball up the middle found its way for a hit see India is in that hole and he took two steps to his left before the ball was put into his play into play and that didn't allow him to get to the ball but the great speed of De La Cruz got there it's been a wrong way day for India he's B up in Pakistan that call strike to vantos nothing in one deos over for two in a walk today bats here with two aboard two out marks Bells at a slider and it's own and two [Music] O2 from spers and Vientos goes down swinging to end the inning met strand a couple in the seventh they lead at 4 nothing as we head for the eighth e e e e good outing for an inning against the Red Sox on the Wednesday game before the off day did Danny Young he's had a really solid year for a guy that was barely on the radar Ronnie Northern Illinois beat Notre Dame what so anything's possible come on Jake fredley leads off in the eighth inning brle has an infield hit in two at bats and takes fast ball inside from young college football that that sport where if you lose one game you're out y they wanted in the shadow of the golden dome dribbler up the first basine going to let it roll wisely so against fry speed and it goes foul good job the only thing you want to do if you're tany young is once it goes foul you have to stop and grab it he kind of ran away from it and luckily Alvarez made sure it stayed foul there's Ryan stanik up in the bullpen this been going much better for stanic of late Edwin Diaz is probably available today but if if he's able to stay away from him I'm sure Carlos Mendoza would rather not go to to his closer got the two Youngs he's got stanic for sure available Adam adino got him one key out to end the seventh and now young working the eighth slide out of the strike zone to fairly two and one frle wax one foul on a sinker and it's two and [Music] two Jonathan India on deck and friendley goes down swinging on the slider so Danny Young begins his outing with a strikeout pitching decisions presented by Sage the official finance software partner of Major League Baseball Jose canana made like now Jonathan India facing Danny Young in a matchup of Florida Gators Indie is 0 for three today flly out GRS it into a double play struck out and a ground ball for Lindor to handle and gets into you by a stride two [Music] away well he hit a low in the first part of August but these last three starts can T has been exactly what the Mets have needed falling in line with the rest of this rotation which is just been terrific as we'll have submarino going tomorrow then Paul Blackburn opens the series in Toronto on Monday coming off the injured list here's Ela Cruz who's grounded out and struck out twice today and he takes back door slider for a strike the L Cruz is now struck out 184 times this year that's the most in the major leagues and another slider by Young and it's nothing in two Danny Young has gone from obscurity to key piece for the Mets he has and a slider in there for a call strike three young with a spotless eighth 1 two three with a couple of strikeouts it's four nothing e e e P Alonzo had an RBI single against spes in the sixth that brought in the second Med run that scored all four of their runs in that sixth inning and it's been plenty with Jose canana giving them six and two third scoreless Innings out of and young retiring all four to face them and Edwin Diaz is up in the Mets [Music] Bullpen Lonzo takes Sinker for a strike and it's 0 and2 so even with a 4-1 lead Diaz is at the ready if the Mets expand their lead then there's Ryan stanik on standby Tyrone Taylor the on Deck batter Taylor's First at B of the game and then JD Martinez behind him the Braves and blue jays are underway in Atlanta that's Spencer schwellenbach against Jose BOS Diamondbacks have already lost today the Padre's play later on that's a gain ground on the Diamondbacks today and hoping to get within a half game if they can win this one start of the day even with the Braves and three behind San Diego onew coming pulled on the ground under the glove of espanol in the left field sharp ground ball but it looked like espanol was right there and it went right beneath the leather in the MST of a leadoff base [Music] run I mean just uh he would love to have that over to improve his footwork never really moved over to the ball just kind of reached for it and went under his glove shaking his head he knows that eror chart to espinol each team with one error in the game here's Taylor batting for the first time Tyrone takes a strike nothing in one Taylor appeared as a pinch Runner last night and stole a base in the ninth inning got a start against Boston on Wednesday to a Bas loaded walk in that game and Teller GS one foul nothing and [Music] two the guys really out there every day is Nemo and they [Music] have spread the wealth otherwise nice pick up by Stevens and ball two strikes Vader home run today got the Mets the lead in the six Taylor in there for defense Marte playing two days out of three Winker again the starts against most right-handers it's all working out Taylor pops it up on the infield and De La Cruz and India looking at it and De La Cruz takes charge one out [Music] the dancing just has never stopped today the folks have had a great time at the Ballpark today I think the extra hour of rain delay before the game began yeah bounced past them into bedum it increased the party atmosphere yeah here's JD Martinez JD had a two-run double in the Mets 4run sixth second game back from the paternity list he's got a hit and an RBI in both games and he flies this one fouled down the right side that'll go out of Play Nothing and [Music] two oh that's the best foul ball handed to a kid [Music] nice nothing better than that the ballpark smile that won't quit JD goes down on strikes and that's the second out of the inning fourth strike out for spes I mean a yman effort here from spers I mean he's pitched a lot of long relief for this ball Club but boy I me they've had to push all of these guys without any real legit starters on the staff right now is's a glacius one for three at a double that's first hit that came in the fifth inning with two out Jacob junis held the Mets without a hit for four and 2/3 and nobody scored until the sixth when Bader homard and sparked a four-run inning and that's all the Mets have needed so far Alonzo at first with two out and a glacius takes it high ball on a strike in the ninth the Reds will have their three four and five hitters Stevenson steer and France do up and right now it looks like it's going to be Diaz unless the Mets tack on glacius La one to right center field diving he he can't get it it lands at his feet so so Alonzo will have to stop at third and acius on at first well Hines was fortunate after diving for that ball that it didn't get behind him otherwise the Mets would have been circling the bases oh he took a chance with this dive and smothered it just in the top of his glove and it St stayed in front didn't go behind that was the key for Hines good effort no harm no foul with the ball staying in front of him so glis with his second head of the day and now an RBI chance with two out for Alvarez who's over for two and a walk and Francisco fouls off the slider nothing and one see if Alvarez can bear down here with two outs takes the fast ball high one and [Music] one ball one gets a wild thing yeah the TRS nice there's Ricky [Music] B slider fouled off and it's one and two to Alvarez you get the water hand to hand it to you when you're the closer you're saying when you're not the closer you have to get your own 100% didn't know that that was a thing oh yeah certain in pecking order what if you happen to be pitching the ninth inning on a particular day and you're not the Clos one no no no just the anointed closer yes onew coming the guy who gets the music the trumpets when he comes into the game that's the guy who gets the water the hail Caesar Harrison Vader would be next two two coming to Alvarez and he smacks that one the left but steer is there and that retirees the side met strand a couple in the eighth on to the ninth four nothing New [Music] York e e e e now in for the second straight day struck out the side in the ninth inning in last night's game Tyler Stevenson will lead off in the ninth for the Reds he has a double and a walk today and he takes the first fast ball outside from Diaz for ball one Stevenson then Spencer steer in Tai France as Diaz Tri to nail down Jose quintana's 100th career win and the slider stayed inside two and0 recently Diaz has benefited from more work fast ball has been up in triple digits at times and he yanked that fast ball now it's 3 and0 it's the 11th time this year that Diaz has wor consecutive days his second day erra is 4.35 and Stevenson gets hit in the helmet it just ticked the top and he's okay but he'll go to first base that was scary well he's always got fast ball arm run and it hits him in the left shoulder didn't get the thank goodness just turned his head and ducked it at the right time that Stevenson wow it's going to be Ball Four anyway but Stevenson aboard on the hit by pitch and now Spencer steer and he pops up the first pitch Alvarez with r one out I I honestly don't understand the game at times really don't you know you're you're down four runs the closers just walk the hitter on four pitches the fourth one almost hits your teammate in the head and you're ready to swing first pitch make him throw a strike I mean that's I know the game has changed but some things have to remain the same that's Integrity on how to play it if you want to come back oh certain things may have changed about the way the game is played but winning the game is supposed to be the first priority 100% come on now by France takes the fast ball for a strike and it's one and one France is 0 for three today 0 for seven in this series he's a good player steer swing and a miss at a high slider and it's one and two to France completely off balance after that swing Alonzo playing behind the runner Stevenson at first onew coming to France round ball up the middle a base hit and the Reds have something working here in the ninth so France with his first hit in the series and the Reds need one more base runner to get the tying run to back first hit of the series after going 9 for 11 against Houston in a sweep that Cincinnati had against the Asos kind of was leaning backwards a little got enough on the baseball to get it up the middle and now reys Hines will B for the first time Hines we told you about that off to that spectacular beginning to his major league career then wound up back in the minor leagues it came in late into this game when TJ fredel was taken out after he was called out on strikes in the seventh and again we don't know if Fredo was ejected or not we don't we didn't see it we didn't see it um but it would have been odd for him to be pulled at that point if he hadn't been a lot of times guys will go back to the bench right and Hoot at the Umpire but we did not see it and the Jesus has always had a quick hook so the Reds need to get one more runner on to get the tying run to bat and Hines takes a knee high fast ball at 99 mph nothing at one so Diaz trying to write himself after a hit by pitch in a single and quickly gets ahead on the rookie hindes nothing and two fast ball at the lower part of the Zone second one at the higher part of the Zone doz he stay he got to stay with that fast ball after he was laid on both go up his eyes 02 struck him out 100 milph up from Diaz two men down oh he's got it on the string now no control against Stevenson and now throwing it exactly where he wants to now Santiago espanol with the Reds down to their final out and he takes one high after the ball one this winning streak began as a look at Toronto taking the lead on Atlanta this winning streak began with Diaz's bounce back performance in Arizona popped up foul backing out of play he has been spectacular during the Mets eight straight wins as as the entire Mets Bullpen the pen came into the day during the eight game winning streak with a 0.72 erra and they have not allowed a run today too high to espol two balls of a strike that appearance 17 out of the 18 pitches were fast balls he has found that part of his game and the slider coming that's been all two for three two infield hits and he flies one to shallow left Lindor waving everybody away and the ball game is over nine straight wins for the Mets 100 career wins for Jose kintana as the Mets continue this incredible roll from August into September as they shut out the Reds four to nothing they have found a way each and every day no hit four and 2/3 Innings by the Reds uh starter Jacob junis but kintana stayed with him with 6 and two3 shut out Innings himself congratulations to Jose on his 100th win and Harrison Bader with a big moment today with the first big hit for the Mets his home run to right center field so the Mets keep the train moving they're now just a half game behind Arizona and hoping to pass the Braves if the Blue Jays can do them
