welcome everybody to beautiful Miami and Hard Rock City site of this year's Capital One Orange Bowl part of course of the college football playoff we've reached the semi-final stage one last hurle to clear before that national championship game and today we're going to find out who's got the toughness and the depth to continue their drive and keep Championship dreams alive as we'll see the number three seed in this playoff the Florida Gators taking on the number two seed in the playoff the East Carolina Pirates frea sports college football I'm Chris fer joined by Kirk CB street it's been a tremendous college football playoff so far and it's down to this the semifinals which team will head on to the national championship game [Music] kickoff team out there we are about to get cranked up with a semifinal Collision here return it from inside the 10 yd line and he stopped at the 20 tried to make something happen that's good coverage there Pirates offense making their way on the field to open this game they love being in Miami for the orange Bulls so much history and tradition so many championships have been won in this game but they've been playing this since 193 five can you tell me who won that first orange ball you know what's funny is I actually asked the sunshine scooter who's from Miami just in case you might ask me that question so I have an answer Miami played the Bison of Bucknell and Bucknell upset them talk about a team coming out of left field and pulling off an upset even back then but who would have guessed how much this game in the college football world would change since then they don't make the completion here the timing to off between a quarterback and receiver but man this defensive coordinator he may want to consider getting more pressure on this quarterback by changing some things up you got a lot of time back there to throw the ball and eventually it's going to cost [Applause] youth so instead of trying to pin the opponents deep with a punt they'll go for it on fourth down first drive of the game they flip it to him on the Jet Sweep takeen down but not before he makes the first down a nice little Simple Touch pass here by the quarterback getting the ball out to the receiver Who's In Motion look that doesn't turn into a huge play but they do pick up a first down and no offense is ever going to say no to moving the chains in a big game before he goes out of bounds the offense keeps churning gets a fresh set of downs the Pirates are moving quickly down the field Quick Pass here comes a Jet Sweep inside the 35 yd line they bring him down but that game moves the ball all the way to the 31 nothing better than an offense on first down to be able to pick up big positive yards like that you can either keep giving it to the back or it can set up play action and get the defense to come up to the line of scrimmage and you can throw it over top of it quarterback now all alone in the back field looks like the QB is changing the play at the line he look to throw it here on second down and he's got his man open downfield and he'll take it into the Zone touchdown East Carolina come out in the playoff game k no signs of lust for the offense imediately yeah no chitters at all after the layoff I wondered how they might be able to come out and communicate and the actually just the the Rhythm to the offense but they did not hesitate they set the tone early now they got themselves a [Music] lead see if they can convert the point after is on for the extra point and the P makes it s [Applause] nothing kickoff team has come on the field now to send this one [Applause] awayi and he'll leave the kickoff right there we start from the 25 so the gator offense takes the field the first chance we had to see them today all right K let's a quick look at the impact players for today's game and how they're going to affect the outcome these are your leaders on the field and in the lock room these are your go-to guys not only when you need a play to be made but also when you need somebody to Rally your team on the shotgun it's a handoff Breaking Free at the 35 tackles made but not before he makes the 43 yd line this drive is going now one play and they're already past the 40 first and 10 off the play fake looking to throw the short completion of the tight end defense reacts quickly a very short gain on the play just a good job of spreading the weth making sure everybody's getting their touches when you do that the defense can't lock in on one guy or two guys make them have to be aware of everybody and allows you to continue to spread the ball around and spread the field making it tougher for this defense so the ball placed right at the 50 offense looking to up the first down here on Third and short defense is coming after him makes a quick grab brought down at the 40 that'll be a first down they bring him down but the sophomore quarterback shows what a cannon he has the gator lining up here on First and 10 play action fake looking to throw and he's going to float this one to the right side deep ball caught inside the 10 tackle is made at the four it'll be first down and goal the gator line up with a first and goal first and goal hand off goes backwards losing three yard there Chris this is what I love to see from the defense is the linebackers are scraping doing their job but you need help from the secondary and when you have aggressive tacklers on the back end you got a great defense this time the second and he'll get there TouchDown for him oh just outstanding execution here by this offense the offensive line gives the quart time and the quarterback's anticipation was on point puts that ball right in the money the receiver all he had to do was turn and catch the ball for that touchdown and they're able to tack on the extra [Applause] point he'll return it from inside the five he be tackled at the 17 strong job by the coverage team so the E Carolina offense back on the field now passing game was so effective in the last position right down for a touchdown we'll see if the defense can make adjustments they're gaining some breathing room now tackled at the 26 second down after that run on the previous play and the back gets the football the Pirates are moving quickly down the field line getting set up it's a first down play quarterback making some changes at the line and looking to throw now on first down and they've got him for a sack that'll be the final play of this opening qu early on it's a fun battle on the road to the National Championship deadlocked at the end of one let's check out the early stats so far the loss sets up a second and long from the 20 quarterback drops back probing the secondary again he's just trapped and sacked in the pocket so the offense calls a timeout here that's their first of the half good job here getting into the back field of coming up with this sack here by the defensive line from the Florida Gator and Chris you think about Florida you think about def lineman you think about an incredible history and Legacy that they've had over the years start with Javon Cur the freak what he was a Oh the passes picked off not a long return but the important thing that pick wipes out his scoring trip the offense will take over from the 29 it's third and long so as an offensive coordinator you can either play a conservative or trust your quarterback and take a shot down field they elect the ladder and it ends up backfiring on and with nobody open choos it to just throw it away second down play coming [Applause] up on the run it's web breaks got space looking to score and he gets to the end zone touchdown Gators this is such a well-designed play here for the offensive line opens things up initially but you can see the speed of the back and the effort by the receivers not to be selfish these guys are blocking down field that's why he got that ball to the end zone and they tack on the extra point here's a kickoff team let's see if they give the returner an opportunity to bring this back fields it just outside the goal line and he stopped at the 20 trying to make something happen but that's good coverage there East Carolina's offense head back out on the field now we'll see if this quarterback can shake off the interception he through in the last possession he's running out of time here finds room the 30 and they finally make the stop but that's a huge gain in the scramble he found some space and just went for it the game mes the ball past the 40 sets up another first and 10 off the play fake looking to throw quick completion with the tight end and here the tight end shows off his hands for a nice game love to see the big man get his touches first down and 10 he'll change the pre-nap look now here comes a first down pass attempt SLS the quick throw they get him down but not before he moves the football to the 32 big guys up front lined up it's first down now the play fake he'll look to throw it and he'll lost it to the end zone downfield shot Falls incomplete couldn't quite connect there important second down play coming [Applause] up out of the shotgun he hands it off you know in the era that we live in right now everybody wants to spread the field around try to create space try to create one-on-one matchups and the defense has countered over the years by trying to play out wide but here's a great example the defense has the ability to play wide but still be solid at the line of scrimmage and not give up big run plays oh he break will he score here he takes it for the score touchdown Pirates this college football playoff game is all tied up and curtain's beginning to feeli lookit like a shootout yeah it is it's a battle of the offenses both these teams right now executing flawlessly and they're doing so with such high stakes answering one score with another neither team is backing up one inch does it bring the kick out Touchback it'll start at the 25 the Florida offense retakes the field each offense has been clicking so touchdowns in their last possessions in the first play of the drive now e e e e e e [Applause] off the play fake on first down the pocket breaking down the ball away but not before taking a hit offense getting set up here's second down a lot of times college football the game comes down to just a play or two and that's a missed Opportunity by this offense I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to come back to that same play in the second half the offense now facing a third and long from the 26 got to avoid a mistake here dropping back looking to throw for the first down he'll take a deep shot the ball is picked off going the other way can they stop him across the 40 he steps out of bounds after the great pick solid return to set up his offense that offensive coordinator is going to have some Choice words for his quarterback over the phone on the sideline after that throw you have to be more careful with the football so the East Carolina offense back on the field now the last Poss they really had the pass game quicking move right down the field for a touchdown I tell you to be able to pick up a nice gain like that those offensive linemen have to sustain their blocks gave them a chance at a really nice gain they'll keep it on the ground running back has a hand off and the tackle is made but the offense now is set up first and goal from the nine Chris what I love here is just The Vision by the running back showing great patience the hole opens up and then he's able to use his speed to pick up some good yards here's the snap looking to throw here and that pass rush has trapped him into sack after the big loss on first down it's second and goal backed up that's a big sack by this defense here on first down now the offense still has opportunities to rectify this situation but it's not the best he's got some room can he get there makes it across the goal line touchdown pirates for the quarterback says I'll do this myself gr he just takes off and flashes the speed in the touchdown run my goodness his creativity and speed makes it almost impossible to stop if I'm the defensive coordinator I start locking in on this quarterback's ability to run because if you don't you're going to see a lot more plays like this so no return here he takes him in the end zone and they'll begin the drive at the 25 and the Florida offense is back out on the field now this offense trying to bounce back the last possession and and a pick from the shotgun hand off inside they'll stop him behind the line for a loss of one that's the two-minute warning in this close first half the offense trying to score and clean the lead before the break what's the play call here on second down for this offense quarterback sets up looking for an open man and it's picked off threw it across his body and paid the price he's got some room and some blockers here take it all the way in pick six touchdown East Carolina a takeaway and the touchdown that is just a dream play for any Defender Cur well let's start with the interception I just love the fact that he got his eyes turned around found the football and then has the athletic ability to be able to secure it then he goes back to high school running back days and shows what he can do with the ball in his hands and takes it all the way back for a touchdown beautiful thing with the extra point lead is 14 the kickoff team on the field now as a get set to send this one [Applause] away 14 and it comes out to the 25 no overturn attempted there the gator offense retakes the field not a whole lot of time remaining before halftime to cut into this lead first play of the drive look going to throw the football got him for a sack a big play made by one of theor leaders of this defense defense spends their second timeout to try to regroup short loss on the play sets up second and long from the 18 quarterback delivers complete to the right side tack will finally made that's a very solid game but not close to first down yardage yet drops back needing a third down completion here it's caught down Field Time Out is called a tuck strategy late in this close game with halim approaching and the Gators begin a new series here first and 10 from the shotgun drops back makes a quick catch he's found some room at the 45 heads out of bounds after a solid gain more than enough to pick up a first down first down play C how aggressive will it be linebackers trying to confuse this offense now bringing pressure pressure is coming pass balls incomplete but the defense may have jumped offside defense what I always love to see on these offsides call is when they're always pointing at each other you know he did it I didn't do it put it on him and we know this time it's on the defense they're going to make the right call and the quarterback drops back looking for an open man caught quickly the offense will quickly spend a timeout here after the play offense will set up on First and and the quarterback dropping back and it falls incomplete this is the one thing I love about this running back is his ability to get involved in the pass game runs a great route just doesn't come down with a catch looking to pass here on second down it's incomplete there is a marker down on the field let's check out that [Applause] call obviously the defense will L that penalty on the offense and take the result of that play this is the sixth play on the drive on third down he drops to throw looks down field and finds a receiver who worked his way wide open four set of bounds after a nice gain the offense is knocking on the door with a first and goal now a chance to cut into this lead before halftime it's first and goal and he'll set up to throw oh it's dropped off the tip by the defense there is going to bring up second Down Easy they snap it quarterback looking to throw the ball oh a sack the senior on this defense making a big play they crank up the tempo here for this important third down play Corners back up now play a couple yards off the ball he's got it looking for the end zone really tight coverage here by this defense now they give up the pass underneath but do a nice job of rling to the football to keep him short of that first down marker and now we've got a decision here on fourth down that one straight down the middle so here's the kickoff now offense settling for three tacking on a little bit of momentum before the halftime break he's going to return it from near the goal line and he stopped at the 19 good job by the coverage team Carolina Pirates will take over first in 10 time ticking away time for just one more play before half time on First and 10 they'll look to throw it he's looking deep here and it's incomplete they try a desperation pass there as time runs out in the first half M's going to wrap up the first half here let's kick it down to Kevin Conor with our halftime update thanks Chris these games they never disappoint regardless the score and this one was filled with excitement and big plays throughout that first half two quarters of both sides feeling each other out and it's likely to come down to which offense can find a way to generate some big plays adjustments will be a part of it maybe it's time these typically conservative play callers open up the Playbook nothing crazy but a calculated risk here and there to try to gain an edge in what's been a stalemate that's it for us from our EA Sports Studios in Orlando let's head back to Chris and Kirk for the exciting conclusion of this one where we'll find out who is moving on in the cfp just a small gain look at it second and nine second trying to find some room it's web the game moves the ball to a 34 Christ defense dials up the blitz they're unable to get into the back field giving the running back enough room I'll tell you the linebacker makes a great play just to come up with a tackle here that one is incomplete the defender was right there and it brings up fourth down now the gator will have to kick it away and surprisingly this is the of the game for either [Applause] team and here's the return return BL down sets up the next Drive East Carolina's offense has back out on the field now quarterback making adjustments now what the defense is showing finds that big tight end for a short pass rips off a big gain finally tackled at the 46 fresh set it down for the offense first [Music] down off the play fake looking to throw and he's going to stretch the defense taking a deep shot here they bring him down but an explosive play by this offense big game that is great arm strength and accuracy by this quarterback let's not forget the wide receiver's job of bringing it in for that big game keep it on the ground on first and goal the Senor able to make the stop after a short game second down and goal upcoming moving the receiver around PR now a PO pass on the Jet Sweep and he scores touchdown Pirates now this a Brant game from this quarterback with the spot in the Natty on the line you need you got to step up and this guy has delivered so far today you know it's just everything coming together the preparation that he put in leading into this game the offense doing their job of taking care of him receivers running good routes everything right now is clicking for this offense and this [Applause] quarterback the fla offense retakes the field this group is coming off a quick three and out can they put something together in this drive and the single back takes the hand off mov the ball up to the 30 this a good solid game five or six yards love to see that from the running game second down after that run on the previous play out of the shotgun he'll hand it off and the defense able to hold him there to a short gain third down this offense could really use a conversion here down multiple scores there's the snap quarterback setting up to throw receiver looks it in it's complete the gator line up on First and 10 [Applause] now quarterback keeps the football they tackle him behind the line a loss of four now it's second down here off the play fake looking to throw the football it's a quick grab and the defense swarms not much of a gain on that completion here the defense decided to sit back in Play Zone and that front didn't do a good job of pressuring the quarterback he had the time to make the throw and he put it on target the pass rush closing in able to throw it away he felt the heavy pressure took a hit but got rid of the football the Gators bring their punt team onto the field and he'll kick it away now for the second [Applause] time and the returner brought down by the cover Pates so the East Carolina offense back on the field now first down here for this offense quarterback adjusting now to the defense first down looking to throw the football and it's incomplete even in a first down throw he was under some heavy pressure so after the incompletion it's second down the shotgun hand off here solid run they'll bring it down at the 28 yd line offense facing a third and long from the 28 got to have your pass protection in order on this play dropping back we going to throw for the first down makes a quick grab sto at the 36 that's good enough to move the sticks well this quarterback is UN flap here they are working with the lead in the second half get to a third down you got to throw the football this is where you trust the quarterback to make a good decision an accurate throw he does it you convert and you keep working that clock solid gain moves the ball to the 43 you know the good thing about this play is it's not an explosive play but it really gives you a chance now to be able to pick up the first down here on this next [Applause] play Kirk it's East Carolina with the lead here he played three with a chance to stay alive for the national championship we'll check out the game summary here so far they're going to run it breaks loose at the 45 oh and he's in the clear now it's a foot race touchdown Pirates stretching the lead this one is getting ugly what a long run for the touchdown if this defense was caught sleeping or walking in love I can't pick which one maybe it's both because the running back just went right by them so easily for the big gain and a big time score and the Pat is good now the kickoff team is out on the [Applause] field and he'll just take a knee Drive will start at the 25 yd line and the flota offense is back out on the field now they were forced to punt last time can they get this offense going finally get some points out of this possession looking for the wind out he's got it for a big gain and an explosive gain moves the ball across Midfield well spotted at the 42 the drive stays alive with that completion for a first down quarterback drops back we're going to test the secondary makes the grab it's Hill he's tackled quickly but the yardage is good enough for the first half that's what makes his tight end so dangerous you can flexx him out into that slot position he shows you his versatility he can be an inline guy that can block but here he shows you what he can do with his hands they make the stop but not before a solid game that time the Gators are in the Red Zone from inside the Red Zone they're looking to throw and it's the senior getting home with the sack Chris I'm really surprised by the way this game has turned out that's another sack by this def they've done such a great job of preparing a plan to get ready for one of the top quarterbacks in the country they've kept him out of syn Applied pressure and a big part all the way to the end zone touchdown Florida Chris as you know anytime you hit a big post route like this for a touchdown the timing between the quarterback and the receiver is essential nice job of not waiting too long quarterback takes a hitch gets the ball out early and allows his receiver to run underneath the beautifully thrown football for the touchdown and the receiving team makes the recovery the hands team does its job perfectly East Carolina's offense head back out on the field now the last possession was his old school Power football we'll see if they can keep that going here hey it's a great job of this defense containing the running game if I'm calling the plays I'm not abandoning the running game just yet I think it's important to have some sense of balance so in running is essential stick with it quarterback looking to pass here on second Down Easy throw to a wide open receiver downfield touchdown East Carolina and the route is on oh this is how you start to get rolling that's two touchdowns so far and the more he gets fed the more often he's going to cash in and the extra point splits the U is's the kickoff team Now set to boot this one away [Applause] 24 so it'll be a Touchback ball spotted at the 25 the gator offense retakes the field first down play call coming up how aggressive will it be they'll come out throwing here to start the drive he's got an open man downfield and it's caught tackle made after a big game one play Lees the ball to the 45 it'll be first down and he drops back in the gun fires it to the wide out he pulls it in for a big gain that's a big game before he goes out of bounds it'll move the sticks more than enough for a first down here's a first and 10 play quarterback drops back and he can't escape it's a sack for the defense that takes the wind right out of your Sails this offense is trying to find a way to get back into this game and another pressure and a sack against their quarterback quarterback looking to throw it on second down intercepted picked off by the defense can he take it all the way inside the 20 touchdown Pirates and the defense joins the party with a pick six great job here by the defense coming up with yet another play boy there just pouring it on today dominating in every phase point after up good kickoff teams on the field let's see if they give the returner chance to bring this one [Applause] backck well he thought about coming out but instead takes a knee and to bring the football out to the 25 yd line and the fora offense retakes the field let's see if they can bounce back from that costly mistake last time a pick six got it this line getting set up it's a first down play easy they'll come out throwing here to start the drive and a short pitch and catch to the tight end and this one goes nowhere lucky to get back to the line of scrimmage well the offense is trying to create some matchups to their advantage but man this defense is so athletic nowhere to go here after this catch 42 SP quarterback wants to throw it on second down receiver makes the grab they bring him down after a short gain there A lot of times when a quarterback sees man defense he wants to get the ball out of his hands as quickly as possible put the ball in the hands of one of their best Playmakers and hope that he can break a tack or two on the outside and get a big play they're going to throw forward on Third and short SS a quick throw and the gain just good enough for a first down tackle may but the sophomore showing us the arm strength good job by this offensive line and a great throw by the quarterback to get that first down there on third down it's exactly what they needed to do this is too big of a game they've come too far they're in the playoff you're down in the second half good job of keeping this drive alive the gator have first and 10 here here's the snap he's looking to throw and the ball is hauled in they pick up four so second down and Six coming up first now that we're in the final couple minutes of this game it's a good time to just kind of step back and appreciate the job this defense has done throughout the entire game they've applied pressure they've been physical at the line of scrimmage good job in space and a big part of the reason that they have such a big lead today now from the 40 the offense faces a third and long to keep this drive going dropping back they going to throw for the first down and now the ball comes out a disastrous play from the start defense recovers fumble big take away man when you get into this big a game on this kind of stage in the second half and you're trailing you just cannot afford to put the ball on the ground the defense is attacking trying to get the ball out they do balls on the ground and this could be the end of the game and they're finally able to stop him but great execution on the screen pass fool the defense there i' really enjoyed watching this guy play all year and it's been great to see him in person today making good decision accurate throws and keeping this offense moving and of course they'll work the clock here keep it on the ground goes backwards losing three yards there Chris I think we all kind of get caught up in third down what what is an offense doing on third down but I think what's also important is how well do you defend first down if you can hold your opponents to a short gain or a tackle for a loss you throw the offense out of whack and their game plan gets much more challenging to try to come up with that first down not going to be easy here backed up a long way to go for a first down and the motion by the back now forces the defense to adjust they flip it to him on the Jet Sweep and a big game before he goes out of bounds the offense keeps churning gets a fresh set of downs the Pirates looking to punch it in here it's first and goal here we go first and goal will'll try to run it in B carrier down at the four offense in great scoring position here well much like what we saw in the first half for us of this playoff game no adjustments go right back to giving his Running Back to Football he's had a monster day and touchdown Pirates and the beat down continues know coaches love to see a football team that doesn't get caught up in the the scoreboard they're just out executing and doing what needs to be done that's what we're seeing from this offense yeah they continue to put points on the board and they're pulling away I just love love to see the execution and how they're going about their business he's going to bring it out of the End Zone from a couple yards deep to be tackled at the 17 strong job by the coverage team and the Florida offense is back out on the field now at this Point's not much you can do except play for Pride first play of the drive they'll come out throwing oh can you believe that he dropped the ball don't see that often he his excellent receiver going to bring up second down easy there's the snap looking to throw the ball finds a man open on the right side down field tackle made after a solid gain they spot the ball at the 34 receivers are bunched together on First and 10 here looking to throw the ball running out of time in the pocket and the junior able to get home with the sack a of n on the second coming that's a great performance in a pressure moment but now the job gets even more exciting even bigger as they go on to the national championship game and play for that Trophy and this is a new era I mean think about the weeks the amount of games that these guys have been able to play and they be able to accomplish this to get to the National Championship that says everything about the endurance of this football team both mentally and physically and they get one more hurdle to see if they can become the national champs and that is going to wrap it up we enjoyed this one
