Stanford University a Bastion of Academia and the alamer of some of college football's most legendary figures Elway luck Sherman and mcaffrey and today the Stanford Cardinal will try to live up to that Legacy we've got a sensational match up for you fans have been filing in and getting ready for this game as we'll see a squad from the Big 12 the TCU horn frogs taking on a team from the ACC the Stanford Cardinal glad to have you with us for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis David poock and Jesse Palmer with me in the booth guys we are ready to tee it up and the horn frogs will kick it away to [Applause] start on the move from inside is five bringing the heat didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 so Stanford's offense will start this game off and as we look out on the field here comes the man the man who makes it all go and that's this quarterback yeah and he's big time that's why he's up for all these Awards he's he's known everybody knows exactly what he brings to the table he can run it he can throw it they're expecting a big day from this young fell they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one that linebacker was a heat seeking missile and the heat that he sought was the the ball carrier yeah great job great feeli linebackers are making all the calls in the defense and understanding when I need to come through that Gap and come through with bad intentions those guys are usually 245 pounds of heat seeking missile they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one everybody talks about DBS and they talk about dropping in coverage and not being physical that DB begs to differ great tackle coming up playing physical like a linebacker and the running game has collapsed so far on this drive and now it's third down to the air it's Daniels and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up and third and long everybody is pinning their ears back and coming after the quarterback you try to throw screens behind those sometimes they're very successful but this time defense played it great and the play went nowhere for lines up to punt it away this will be their first punt of the afternoon fair catch called for and made so the TCU horn frogs offense will try to get something started with their first possession this match up on the outside Jesse a big play weapon for the offense a shut down corner for the Deep they say big time players make big plays in big games so who gets the best of this match up that's going to determine the game I mean such a fun chess match how much are they on each other during the game the head-to-head matchup that everybody wants to see well there's a statement by the defensive line first down play expecting run and they just dominated up front beat their one-on ones and force a tackle for a loss the horn frogs want to move quickly they could have used a little bit more there pick up of three it's third and seven if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of [Applause] momentum on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down love the effort on defense that time that looked like that was going to be a completion downfield but the physicality of the defender Jarred the ball loose and the horn frog send out the punt unit and the ball will bounce at the four and find its way into the end zone for a Touchback the Stanford offense making its way back onto thei field they'll try the Run found a little bit of Running Room knocked down at the 24 after a pick up of four after the productive first down play it's second and six here's the handoff gets the nose of the ball to the 25 give him one so they're facing third and short from the 25 looking to throw it's Daniels quickly complete and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pick up they saw that Blitz coming and the way to get out of it is find the tight end yeah how quick did he see that too sees the blitz understands this is a matchup where I got my big tight end the big fella I trust I'm going to find that match up get him the football for the first down Stanford going back to work with another first down the give on the inside at the 45 on his way he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down defense is going to have their hands full trying to stop this guy they better rally to the football and get multiple hats cuz he is not easy to bring down this Stanford offense moving quickly down the field might as well give it to him again and I think they'll give him two now when second and eight coming up tried to pound it on first down now back to the line leaves it with the back really nice stop there from this senior leader now facing a third and long from the gun wants to pass he's got an open man and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up that's what What's So Scary About This offense they've got guys in the perimeter that can change the game in one single play and you saw it right there too much speed on the perimeter to create that explosive play Stanford comes up with a first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple you see all this movement in football now all the stemming the defensive line they're sliding right before the snap creating confusion for the offensive line then they're moving back and stunting really good job by the defense continue to move continue to stunt continue to get in the back field and make this life hard on this running back looking for a man it's Daniels he CAU it that completion will take it inside the four and the offense is threatening that guy might not be the tallest wide receiver in the world but he sure is quick coming out of his break and he shows you on that slant throw third and goal for the offense from the gun wants to pass fires into the end zone and he's got it touchdown Stanford a methodical Drive Soul crushing Spirit breaking and it ends in a touchdown and listen I know everybody wants the big plays the big long touchdowns and all that stuff but put drive together like that is very difficult to do time and time again and it's demoralizing for the defense great drive by the offense they'll try to add another to their lead and the P makes it seven nothing they put together an 81 yd drive and they CA the drive with a four- yd touchdown pass they're lining up to boot it [Applause] away and he takes this from inside the five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 TCU has it back in the horn frogs go on offense out of the gun to give to the back nice move to keep running running hard and getting six yards out to the 26 well it's plays like that that will help this offense stay in Rhythm all game long if you can have that kind of success on first down running the football it just opens up your entire Playbook moving forward the horn frogs will hustle to the [Applause] line quick completion to the right put it right on him sweet play good pickup and they'll move the change with the first down love the decision making by the quarterback there on the RPO play defense took everything away deep down the field so just check it down get it to your guy in the right flat let him go get yards they'll put it in play from the 41 on first down use the play now to throw and this sophomore able to wreak some havoc and get the sack often times with play action you're asking the quarterback to hold on the ball a bit longer and you're asking this offensive line to hold up and pass Pro a bit longer against this athletic front seven on defense it's going to be tough they'll try to keep that sack from Wrecking this drive here on second and 15 he'll pull it on the read and they'll wrestle him to the ground after a short gain well the QB decided to keep it on that one and listen if you had his athleticism you'd want to keep it too almost every time they run these types of option plays but he's just going to have to do a good job of understanding when to hand it off when to pitch it and try to keep this defense on their heels and read his keys he's got a lot of talent just got to make sure he's making the right decisions moving forward for they'll throw it to the back on the screen defense was not fooled by that screen to the back and they'll stop him short of the marker it'll be fourth down that's a tough one to execute on offense in that situation third down you know it's going to be man coverage if that receiver is not able to create any separation then he's going to get tackled as soon as he catches the ball that's exactly what happened Now setting up fourth down fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way that thing was down for a while but the big bounce carried it into the end zone and it'll be a Touchback Stanford has it back the Cardinal offense returning to the field power football with the run and he'll run across the sidelines after the good gain this running back just doesn't go down easy it's just difficult for defenses to get him on the ground not a huge but if I'm an offensive coordinator I'm going to continue to find ways to feature him and just you know what let his talent do the rest good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and three just feeds the running back still running at the 40 and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one one of the things I love about this offense ree is they have tons of speed they like to try to get the ball going east west that time they generate a huge play going to the right side and the defense either not fast enough to fit or got knocked out of the fit yeah they got to do a better job containing that as this game goes on they got to funnel the football back to the middle of the field nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry they're trying to run the ball on first down guys but just nothing doing up front their offensive line got blown up on that play there was nowhere for that guy to go couldn't get him blocked on that last one now it's second and 14 to give to the lone running back they make the stop but not before he takes a chunk out of what they need to move the sticks now facing a third and long from the 50 yd line to the air it's Daniels throws to the wide out a strike downfield and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play love the individual effort by the wide receiver after the catch making people Miss showing you the speed now he set up his offense down in the Red Zone this Stanford offense is huming set up with another first down wide receiver shows motion from the gun leaves it on the inside with the back picked up maybe a yard it's down at the 16 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine quarterback touch pass on the Jet Sweep [Applause] slam to the ground but not before he gets the first down I love that play call and I love the timing of the pre- snap motion because the quarterback was able to get it to the receiver right behind the offensive line because of the timing he was able to outflank the defense that puts him out in space where he's able to use his speed nice job with the pre-nap motion in time he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple defense rose up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming he'll run it to the middle looking for the End Zone he pushes his way down to the four as they get closer and closer all right so now you're in this third down situation close to the goal line and it just feels David like they're going to have to throw the football in order to score a touchdown here I like maybe trying to get the quarterback outside on the perimeter and give him a run pass option I like that too get the quarterback on the move and here's the thing if I get close and I get stopped touchdown cardal and they made it to the house where they found that six points waiting on them there have been miniseries novels movies long for that have been over in shorter period of time than that drive that was a marathon and that's just so frustrating when you're a defensive guy time and time again trying to get the stops and they just keep making the plays and they punch it in for a touchdown [Music] demoralizing lining up to tack one more onto that lead the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead he marched 78 yds down the field and they Capa the drive with a four yd touchdown pass the kickoff team on the field as they'll send this one [Applause] away on the run from inside his own five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 TCU will send its offense back onto the field to say this has been a slow start is a bit of an understatement and they really need to get it going here Jesse that's right the opponent they're firing on all cylinders right out of the gate offensively for this unit they've been slow and struggling they need an explosive play to wake themselves up yeah and it's just the first quarter so it's not the end of the world you've seen slow starts but you got to continue to pick and pick and pick until you find that play or or thate can use against this defense at the 40 there he goes he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense what perfect execution on that big run everything perfectly blocked and this guy doesn't need a lot of room I love how this offensive line communicates and works up front you see guys winning their one-on-one battles there's double teams happening guys are getting into the second Lev and creating big lanes for this running [Applause] back the lone backs got it able to SC three yards out of that one somehow it's second and [Applause] seven and the horn frogs come to the line in the hurry up [Applause] gets it out fast at the 35 he's loose that is exactly what you're looking for when you talk explosive plays the defense finally able to make the stop not only do you have the big gain and you sort of knock the defense back but you're also set up in the Red Zone yeah they've got this defense on their heels right now after that big play we talked about this offense being explosive now that they're in the Red Zone let's see what they dial up next motion from the offense quarterback Quick Pass to the receiver and the defense stops him just short of the first down maybe needed a few more chain links to move the sticks well in that down in distance you're probably expecting him to throw it way down the field to get the first instead they go push pass and they did catch the defense off guard and even though that was a big explosive play David they still didn't have enough yards to get it well and catch me off guard is relative that's what you would say the offensive player I would say listen we're playing a little bit deeper because we're not going to give up the first down we react to the short stuff and obviously that's a quick easy pass from the offense rally up make the play Live to fight another day at the end of the quarter it is Stanford holding the edge they wanted strike first and strike hard and they've been able to do that here in the first quarter as we take a look at the stats this could be a pivotal moment in this game as we open the second period and they try to find a way to answer on Third and short they'll go to the power running game they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one keep the foot on the pedal if you're on offense or you got that yardage yeah you didn't get the first down but you've set yourself up now to go for it here and keep this drive alive they'll try to cap off this drive with a field goal and he missed it no good guys have missed field goal and nothing changes still a 14-point game that's when the kicker would like to have back that's a kick he should be making in his sleep the Standford offense making its way back onto the field they've jumped on them executing at a high level and up 14- nothing David this is the exact start you want and the quarterback goes down at the 11 yd Line This is a good sign for this defense the rate they were going not touching the quarterback him already having two touchdown pass passes in the first half this was not going to be a fun football game to watch now they're turning the tide a little bit getting a little bit of pressure getting a sack after getting nothing done on the last one this is a big play second and long from the 11 quarterback flips it ahead quickly to the receiver and that stiff arm he's got might as well be a sledgehammer he's got it out to the 16 this defense has kept them backed up now one more stop and they can get off the field on Third and long looking to throw and he needs a bunch pulls it in it's BM he couldn't find anywhere to go and now it's Fourth Down they're trying to throw the screen out to the receiver the defense though having none of that they are just too physical they're too fast they force a negative play Stanford lines up to punt it away three and out they got stuck in Reverse they hope the punt can bail them out signals for the fair Catch and looks it in at the 40 TCU has it back in the horn frogs go on offense the lead's not insurmountable just down 14 nothing but David you don't score here and it could get a little tricky fast if you don't score here if you don't possess the football and put something together to give your defense a little bit of a blow it's not the ideal start but it ain't like this game's late in the football game create some momentum here in the second quarter yeah momentum is a real thing in college football this team needs the juju to get going that first quarter is one they'd love to forget so find your best Playmakers now get them isolated get them the football and let them go to work got it in the middle it's Richardson and they finally haul him down but not before the good catch and run well this offense knew coming into this game they wanted to try to attack the middle of the field in the passing game and they're able to execute the end route there the horn frogs moving quickly to the line off the play fake on first down wants to throw makes a connection finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down when you're throwing these comeback routes man the timing has got to be so good between the two of them because you know the ball is going to be in the air a long time you can't throw it late it's going to get picked that time really nice job getting it out early and the receiver doing a nice job on his route so that the ball was right on him as soon as he turned R in the red area it's c got some room enter to the goal line and he'll finish the run in the end zone touchdown TCU man we know football gets harder when you start to get in the red zone of the field trinks who needs that break the long touchdown run nice job by the back seeing the hole exploding through getting a long touchdown run ling up to add another and after the extra point they've cut the lead in half down 14-7 quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and the score came on an impressive run from the 20 about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown let's see if he can make a play on the return I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 wide receiver now comes in motion give to the running back works his way into the traffic and picks up three to the 17 after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven the playaction fake fires to the wide out incomplete and man is he lucky to get that one back defense that close to an interception oh and on defense you just got to be able to finish that play that Defender had the football in his hands he's just got to catch it that's should have been an interception a third and long coming up here looking to pass it's Daniels he tosses one high and deep down the left side and trying to put points on the board on third down now they're staring at fourth down really nice play by the defender being in a good position for that deep ball down the field not letting the receiver put his big body on him go up over top the only thing that could have been better is that thing tipped to another Defender and it was an interception but great coverage by the defender fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way that's usually Prime return position but he'll make the fair catch just outside the 40 TCU will send its offense back onto the field he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three they're trying to run the football there's just nowhere to go for the ball carrier inside tried to bounce it to the outside that linebacker way too fast he met him there and force the tfl linebackers moving trying to confuse the quarterback and the horn frogs in the hurry up quick release on the RPO and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up this tight end just creates matchup problems no matter how you try to defend him how about the catch radius on him too so as a quarterback you don't have to be perfect and throwing it to him you just got to get it somewhere in his vicinity and he can come up with the catch trying to move the sticks on third down through the air got it on the outside it's Richardson and on that out route third down guys you just want to see a little bit better execution you want to see more depth on the route you want to see a little bit more of an accurate throw so he doesn't have to come back and fight for it so that we can pick up the first down a lot easier little bit better by the quarterback and receiver and as a result they do get the catch but it sets up fourth and short fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way and that is textbook instructional video out of bounds right around the goal line dude how about that boom I mean you talk about couldn't fight his way out of the end zone and they get him for a safety you could tell the defense smelled it they knew exactly where where they were on the field put the pressure on him got him down in the end zone safety baby after giving up that safety they'll have to boot it away and give it right back to them he'll take it on the return TCU has it back in the horn frogs go on offense from the gun they'll try to impose their will he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple so first down didn't exactly go according to plan let's see what they can dial up on second down ree I got him right where I want him okay I'm going to throw the football now I can get back in shotgun forget the running game stuff we play a little pitch and catch and see how good that secondary is looking to throw it's Hoover it's complete on the right side and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a [Applause] few third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a dooy if they can pull it off from the gun wants to pass finds a man by himself look at that toughness just running through everybody this defense giving up ground as he's finally knocked down at the 26 man if I'm a defense I got to find a way to get some more pressure on the quarterback or disrupt their timing and their Rhythm I can't give him these big chunk plays through the air I got to be maybe a little bit more aggressive or do something a little bit different coming out on first down with the play fake looking left he caught it and he'll go out of bounds just short of the goal line and they've got it right on the doorstep they've done a really good job creating the matchups they want out of the slot yeah dude get that guy matched up on a linebacker that guy matched up on a safety keep him away from the corners by putting him in the slot get him the football let him make plays and he's going to take it to the house touchdown hard frogs they'll try to add another to their lead and with the extra point they have a two-point lead a very efficient five playay scoring drive and close the deal with a three- yd touchdown run kickoff team lining up to send this one away out of the end zone not nearly as much as he' hoped when he brought it out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the 15 Stanford has it back the Cardinal offense returning to the field unloads to the Wi out he's got it really needed to play like that to get out of their own end they move the chains they mark it at the 29 well they execute the how about the arm strength by the QB that was an absolute bullet on that completion they'll start this one from the 29 on first down keeping it on the ground with the running back and excellent Vision to find Running Room there and make a really good pick up before the defense put a stop to it you don't always have to run the sexy play right right it doesn't have to always be uptempo and fast and spread and doing all this stuff sometimes you just lower your shoulder sometimes you just run powerfully you get the first down and that's all that matters going up top on first down H as he throw picked off and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the pick he had all day to throw that this offensive line knew coming into today their challenge was was going to be trying to block up the blitzes and give their quarterback time to survey the field he had all day to throw that one fortunately made a bad decision and throws a pick TCU will send its offense back onto the field they took their time out of the gate but now starting to try to take control with this game on offense here in the second quarter Jesse Yeah and they're playing good complimentary football up to this point but this is a huge opportunity David for them to really create some momentum why and the defense did such a good job keeping him in the game early now holding down there end now get the offense rolling put up some points on the scoreboard and then you could really get dangerous in this ball game the horn frogs headed quickly to the line the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D give to the back knocked down at the 35 after a pick up of [Applause] three got three on first down at second and seven they feed him again they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one you know the runner just has to have a little bit more patience bounce that thing outside a little too early and as a result L yards they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here on third down he drops to throw and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knock the ball to the ground fourth down coming up really nice third down sub defense there that time it's third and long they're expecting pass and they're mixing up their looks they're trying to change the picture pre- snap to post Snap to confuse the quarterback now forcing the incompletion setting up fourth and now on fourth down they'll try a field goal it's good now there is a flag down on the play but when you knock through a field goal from that distance and you're not going to get the first down think you just keep your points this could turn out to be a huge penalty thought they were going to have to settle for three and now the offense back on the field with a chance for more not a whole lot of room there three yard maybe second and seven and the horn frogs looking to take advantage of this Red Zone trip dropping back it's Hoover fires to the middle makes the catch takes it to the house touchdown TCU so much about the passing game is about timing execution communication and these two that's a virtual textbook there no doubt about it and the receiver making plays for his quarterback being Dependable running the route to the right depth consistently does a great job running his route great result because of it lining up to tack one more onto that lead and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further so that scoring Drive took only six plays and the finisher an 18yd touchdown throw the kickoff team out there getting set here he comes from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Stanford offense making its way back onto the field after that last pick David they really need to take care of the ball this time no doubt and Palmer I want to know what spur said to you on the sideline after a pick do that again and you'll be right here beside me for the rest of the game you got to go out you got to call your plays and I hope this coaching staff isn't going to be afraid to throw at this drive this offense has a second down play running to the left keeps it moving for a three yd gain to the 24 here on third down back to pass it's Daniels he looks that one in nicely and the the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down he might have expected to see this DB up in his receivers kitchen instead nice little Zone and they pick up the first man offenses are getting so good reys at seeing the holes in the zone knowing you're in zone knowing where to sit down how to make it an easy pitch and catch for the quarterback and that's what it was on Third and short got it in the middle it's I Mana he won't quite get there but boy after that pick up just a few inches to go for the first an array of possibilities here that wide receiver on the outside's dangerous when you're playing Zone coverage it's really hard because you're not chasing him you can't really get hands on him you got to make sure you send more guys his Direction maybe slide those linebackers toward that wide receiver so you got a little more help on the outside they knock him down but he gets enough to give Stanford a first down I love when players understand situations and they understand where the first down marker is and they understand where I got to get to a lot of people you'll see run north south and try to bounce out wide and make big plays sometimes it's not about making big plays sometimes it's about getting that first down to make sure I get an extra set of downs instead of trying to make those big touchdown runs throws to the tight end connection to the right and he was Off to the Races finally tripped up at the 36 they knew they could slip that tight end behind the backers with that play action fate well it's because I can't win reys I I have to play the run you know all these rpos all these different things I it makes me come up and use my eyes and play run and these tight ends are so valuable to find space behind knew where he was going with the football the whole time because the big fella he's always open wants to throw on first down can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down and that Defender was just smothering the quarterback on that screen attempt you know the QBs taught to hold on to it till the last possible second he had no shot trying to negotiate that Defender they'll go back to work after the incompletion here's second and 10 from the 36 looking downfield it's Daniels fires to the big fella and he'll step out of bounds after a very productive play so an example of a tight end doing a little unheralded work to set up a better third down situation and I like the QB here Reese I like the decision where I understand let's get this football out let's get some positive yards and then get to third down and we can still have a better situation now because we got rid of the football and took the yards that were there just flying through the air like a superhero to make the grab man I love those guys that are willing to put their body on the line and he does it right here man just lays out that Ball's coming in you can see it from several yards out making that play laying out keeping the football from touching the turf great concentration great effort by the receiver back to the air one more time firing to the right complete and just a short safe pass play they pick up a few we're trying to throw the wide receiver screen to pick up that first down but the defense just too much speed getting to the ball carrier on that one operating in the Red Zone here on second down he's looking to throw makes a catch that completion will take it close to the 5 yd line they'll mark it at the six there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer the terrain gets rough this deep in the Red Zone third down they can pick up the first without scoring they're working that left side timeout call by the defense it's their first of the half as they'll make some adjustments they allowed the completion but this defense was swarming to keep them away from that first down line yeah and you allow completions in those third down situations underneath the sticks and you come up and rally and everybody flies to the football that's great execution by this defense and it's right down the boulevard so they get the field goal now about to kick it away and you get a stop here and you go to halftime feeling really good about things he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the TCU has it back in the horn frogs go on offense now you find out just how much of a guns swinger you are will you roll the dice here late in the half David and you know the defense is going to be really really conservative so I think it's an opportunity to be able to take a shot see how much of a chunk you can get before then you decide really Jesse how you want to finish the half just can't turn it over and throw a pick if you're the quarterback here you have got to be so smart if you're going to what a snag by the defense he goes out of bounds but what a play to create a sudden change opportunity you know I like the decision by the quarterback in terms of where he was going with the ball just don't like the accuracy that was not good location on the throw got away from him a little bit the defense able to come up with a big pick here's his offense with a fresh set of downs they're going to throw it to start the drive finds his tight out here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half looking down field it's Daniels passes incomplete the clock is down to nine what a hit by the defender that's a good throw and that was going to be caught but how about the defender dislodging the football from its intended target nice job we'll see if they go back to the air after the incompletion it's third and five looking to throw he's got his man and he couldn't quite get to the marker and that's going to bring up a fourth down we've got a timeout in the waning seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more plays now on fourth down here comes the field goal team and he's going to reach for a long one and have to guide it in from the left side 51 yd out that thing would have hit a string in the middle of the uprights perfect and the field goal to end the half takes us to Half Time we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halftime update guys a stirring start to things today in pelto as we say hello from our broadcast Studios each of these two offenses has looked like well oiled machines but it doesn't take a genius to figure out these two passing attacks have run circles around these defenses man or Zone nothing seems to be working and I'm not sure that defensive coordinator is going to be a ble to figure things out here at halim and with that let's send it back to the guys inside Stanford Stadium Stanford set to boot it deep to start this second [Applause] half he'll start the return inside his SP he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 TCU will send its offense back onto the field off play action on first down and the quarterback is knocked down back at the 13 that's the thing about this defense yeah they may be losing the game right now but they've got difference makers on that side of the football they got guys that can step up like that create Havoc get a sack create negative plays they're going to need more of that here in the second half if they're going to win this game let's see if they play it conservatively and try to get some of the yardage back on second and long from the 13 looking for space it's cook H his way ahead for three out to the 16 I never know if it's grammatically correct to say a team is being out physical you hear it a lot in football though that's happening in this game they are just not getting the push they need all game long up front to have any success when they decide to run it not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 off the bootle looking to fire he's going for a big Play Down field and that'll be incomplete they certainly weren't afraid to take a shot there and now it's Fourth Down offenses know and work on it all week third Downs third downs we got to be really really good this offense not good on this third down it could come back to B the horn frogs will send out the punt unit fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt makes a move the solid return there offsets some of the punt yardage and really sets up this offense nicely Stanford has it back the Cardinal offense returning to the field going to the ground they pick up half of it it'll be second and five went to the running game on first down now here they come again now the play fake throws to the wide out and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the play but no Flags it'll be third down we'll see if they go back to the air after the incompletion it's third and five to the air it's Daniels tight end finds a soft spot he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch this tight end is so athle times they'll line him up in different parts of the field that time he was in the slot nice job running the route finding the open space in the defense for the completion Stanford gets set to snap it on first down they'll give it to the back able to move it ahead a couple yards he gets it down to the 20 picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down he's looking to throw he's got it and still on his feet they'll finally put the braks on him at the three a big throw catch and run on that one this is a tight end that not only is going to play with his hand in the ground but he can line up in the slot as well and attack the defense vertically he's too fast for lineb to cover and he's too big for DBS to cover he's a real weapon in this offense this Stanford offense moving quickly down the field he's got his man he's down at the one and they almost had the touchdown pass on that one a great job by the defense seeing it right away reacting to the screen going and getting the football and getting the fast playmaker on the ground looking for just one more yard it's second and goal power ahead touchdown Stanford they take the lead with the six that was a great example of a running back toing the rock with conviction there's not a lot of time to hesitate if you see a split second you see a ho you've got to hit it right now nice job by the RB there [Music] lining up for the Pat and the extra point is good and it's a fourpoint lead about kick it away after scoring the [Applause] touchdown from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 TCU has it back in the horn frogs go on offense hand off from the gun discards it with the stiff arm really nice run there good solid pick up and they'll move the with a first down you know they Pride themselves on being physical at the point of attack dominated at the line of scrimmage nice job there picking up the first down and the horn frogs want to crank the [Applause] tempo off the play fake on first down to throw catch in the middle it's Richardson bust through behind his pan and he's still on his feet but finally out of bounds after a terrific run big play in the running game for this offense what a beautiful throw and catch on this play and I love the job the receiver did tracking the ball in the air nice job of locating the throw and then hauling it in the horn frogs have it with a first and goal scanning the field it's Hoover into the end zone and it's caught touchdown hard frog and when you have so many Playmakers on offense like they do they can score quickly you just saw it right there well offensively they knew they were going to have some matchups they could take advantage of in this one and all of a sudden this quarterback has now over 300 yards passing in the game defensively David he has got them on their heels and he's been showing you a little bit of everything he can throw it all over the field to all different receivers to his tight ends to his running back really has the ability to spread it around and now over 300 yard still some time left and he can put up even bigger numbers and heck go chase some awards man get some postseason Awards get an allamerican just put up a day almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll bring it back from inside his five and the returner will be brought down the Stanford offense making its way back onto the field Jesse a very productive Drive last time wound up with a touchdown yeah mixing and matching play calling really well nice balance on that last one Dave let's see what they can do here in this next Drive yeah and I don't expect anything different when you put together a drive like that I would do more of the same keep the pace keep it going you can feel the momentum starting to swing in this Stadium it's first and 10 they'll see if they can find Running Room on the right here shakes off the tackle they'll move the chains after he gets it to the 43 yard line it's hard to stop great Runners it really is that's why you run the football consistently you got a big offensive line a big physical unit you run the football like this man it will take a toll later but you got to tackle this guy over and over again who has this ability to make people miss and make big plays they're going to go right back to him on first down one step WRA Two Step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground didn't get much on first down it's second and nine back to pass it's Daniels setting up the screen nice move to stay on his feet and he's able to shed one tackle and pick up pretty good yardage you know it's funny I know running backs often times are afterthoughts when it comes to the passing game but when you think about it this guy's been making people miss his entire life taking handoffs so why wouldn't you try to get him involved in the passing game as well you just saw in that last play how dangerous he is after the catch he'll do it himself he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out the Cardinal will have to boot it away they'll have to punt for the fourth time today no return coming he'll call for the fair catch TCU will send its offense back onto the field and David how they would love to stick it in the end zone one more time after that last drive and once you get the defense on their heels and you back them off a little bit you get in a little bit of Rhythm it's really hard to stop Jesse and they're going to try to do it again right here and if you're this play caller you're loving what's happening right now because everything you dialed up on that last Drive ended up working out you're just looking at your play sheet everything you're picking is working let's see if they can pull it off again here keep it on the ground and how about that interior defense stuffing the run for nothing great team defense on that run play everybody doing their job people winning their one-on ons D lineman staying in their gaps linebackers and DB filling you just can't do it better and the horn frogs racing to the line in the hurry up on Third and long try to convert through the air and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down well in the first half this offense was up and down the field it seemed like everything they were dialing up was working and here we are in the third quarter and there's a very rare incompletion on their own end of the field maybe that's the play the defense needs now to spark some momentum the horn frogs will bring the punt team onto the field they may have to pay him overtime he's punting for the fifth time today not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch Stanford has it back the Cardinal offense returning to the field one back in the Back Field he gets the carry continuing to turn and move it forward and they're closing in on Midfield it's down at the 48 solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six going with the ground game left that play just never had a chance knock him down for a loss of five and sometimes for the defense it just takes one play right to create some momentum obviously this guy's been eating him up he's got over a 100 yards rushing on the day but finally David they get something positive here in the Run game defensively but you kind of know that coming in he's going to get his such a great back and he's had a great day need to put more plays together like that right there got his he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down this dude is just exceptional in every facet so fluid such a great route Runner and a big play there and money down third down find him I mean you want to find that matchup because he's going to win and gets a good release gets down the field you see his that's your playmaker that's your guy get it to him get the first down he's all the way down to the 27 yd line and they are threatening this offense all game long has been running really well and I'm really impressed by how well they've recruited at the running back that position they've got some Dynamic players coming into the game at different points spelling each other keeping each other fresh they're hurting this defense this Stanford offense is humming set up with another first down using the quick game and good coverage by the defense just a short gain and now on second down for this offense dropping back it's Daniels finds his man in the middle he's really close to that first down marker but they stop him just a bit short it's a nice job running the in route there by the receiver and the best thing he did after he made his break he didn't Trail and fade away he actually attacked the football that's a good lesson for young receivers out there watching Stanford hoping to pay off this Red Zone opportunity to the ground to try to pick up the first he just needed a yard on third down and there just wasn't any room to pick it up great job by the defense everybody firing off the ball hitting their guys holding their gaps running to the football nowhere to go and the field goal unit will stay put as the head coach decides to go for it on fourth down they'll try to pick up the first he's not going to get there stopped short on fourth down a first down for the offense low man wins defense that time on fourth down was expecting run you saw at the point of attack how they just dominated there was nowhere for that guy to go defense wins the down they give it back up now to their offense and the horn frogs are in the hurry up [Applause] off play action they get enough rush and it pays off the sack of the 20 playaction pass success has a lot to do with selling that thing you could tell defense was not buying it got in the back field got the big play they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one third and long and he'll try to throw for it with the catch it's Williams they didn't quite get that route run deep enough to pick up the first down now they've got a fourth and short and I think everybody at home tends to yell at their television set why aren't you getting past the first down marker why did you run your route short defense did a good job knowing where that was but now fourth down offense has to make a decision fourth down the punt team sends it the other way slips through the line coverage team gets the job done and they'll Mark him down at the 38 yd line the Stanford offense making its way back onto the field there have been a couple of missed opportunities for these offenses in the last couple of drives Jesse and I think for this offense here it'd be nice to hit an explosive play be aggressive and really pay off your defense's effort that last drive and instead of having to move the ball down the field consistently and then getting stopped on fours you're right create some of those explosives take those deep shots make those big plays it'll be a first down from the 49 yd line they'll give it to him again and he'll make his way out of bounds after the solid pick up man that was a good run but it was almost even better great job by the offense keep the running game going you get big chunks like this not only was at a big chunk it also looked like it could have gone for more just inside the 40 yd line it's first and 10 from the 39 from the gun running back on the Move nice move to stay on his feet and he goes out of bounds after coming out with positive yardage there they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three they'll rely on running behind the big left tackle here they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and that's what makes this defense so difficult to run against they've got guys up front that just push offensive linemen backwards they basically push the blockers right into the lap of that running back a third down try for the offense on the move it's Daniels good timing on the quick out he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down it's tough on the defense there third down you're in zone coverage everybody's watching the quarterback and you're trying to make a break on the ball but he just got it out of his hands too quickly and the throw was too accurate really nothing you can do there and it's now a fresh set of downs looking to go up top on first down snagged in the middle it's L there to make the tackle but the big throw is good enough to give them a first down and with that pass right there over 300 yards that's a good day at the office being able to execute doing a good job seeing what's coming anticipating taking some shots today but has held really strong put up some good numbers they want to run it left here they get him down after a four yd gain to the six going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone touch pass on the Jet Sweep that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there tight quarters deep in the Red Zone but they can pick up a first down without scoring third down from the gun wants to pass lets it go to the end zone and he's got it touchdown Cardinal like a Thanksgiving turkey they're just being car no shot they have no idea how to get in this quarterback's head he's on fire everything he's doing is working defensively we got to figure something out we got to try to do something a little bit different bring more pressure at this right shoot he's on so much fire you might as well just send everybody Blitz everybody live with the results cuz everything else ain't working anyways they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point is good and it's a four-point lead that touchdown Drive covered 61 yards and they CA the drive with a four yd touchdown pass kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one deep on the move from inside is five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop at the 21 TCU has it back in the horn frogs go on offense off the RPO complete they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down and you want to talk about his favorite receiver it might be everybody based on the number of guys getting touches in a chance to show off their hands in the passing [Applause] game not only is the scoreboard on their side but so too is time as we open the forth free snap Motion in the back field on the run it's Hoover quickly complete and he surges up to the 36 yd line and they'll move the chains nice job there by their receiver on the out route not telegraphing where he's going you can't be peeking to the outside giving the defender an opportunity to break on the ball he kept his eyes right down the field DB had no idea where he was going and that helped make that completion a whole lot easier trying to find his man on first down finds his man it's Williams that's about as close as you can get to that marker and it will be second and just a few breaths away from the first down the horn frogs want to pick up the [Applause] tempo out of the gun the inside K what a good run there he has enough for the first down and that is just an attitude run running it right up the middle right into the teeth of that defense and the horn frogs are on the [Applause] Move pulls and fires it complete to the right all the way down to the 25 yd line they move the sticks it's first down and Jesse just keeps piling up numbers over 350 yards for the the game and I feel like from the GetGo race this guy's just been in a great Rhythm all game long he just seems like he's dialed in and man he's been accurate throwing the rock the give to the tailb he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple well the linebacker showing you read and react he knew exactly where that running play was going and he beat the football to the line of scrimmage and forced the tfl drive it's second and 12 back to throw it's Hoover makes his connection he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down and I don't like the play call guys screen pass at this point of the game against the defense playing big zones prevent trying to keep the ball in front it's just not going to work you got to take shots offensively let's see what they've dialed up on thir third and long from the 22 from the gun wants to pass fires to the wide out snags it down to the three yd line and that's where they'll have it first and goal well I think on that play you saw why this guy's such a big weapon in this offense at receiver he does such a nice job with his routes he's patient and he's consistent and he's got good hands you don't see him put a lot of balls on the ground nice job there pi up the first down they want to throw it got it touchdown TCU and they grab the advantage taking the lead here in the fourth this is like a baseball pitcher that can't miss he is just pounding pounding pounding the strike zone just gets in the zone right and you can't miss you you've seen quarterbacks get like that no matter what they do they're on fire they're hitting the receivers and listen that's also on the defense the defense has to do a better job making him feel uncomfortable changing what they're doing in coverage so he's a little bit confused you can't just let him pick you apart if he makes this one the lead will be three and at least a field goal won't beat you and knocks it through and the lead is a field goal here in the fourth quarter they marched 79 yds on the drive and they finish it up with a three- yd scoring toss lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive and he takes this from inside the five he was hoping for something a little more damic that they get him on the ground at the 20 Stanford has it back the Cardinal offense returning to the the field now they need to put something together to answer that last score there's a lot of pressure too on this offense to have to execute at a high level they've got to score points David but they can't go too fast because their defense right now is tied and I think that's the difficulty being a play call like I have to balance all of those things my defense is a little bit tired I can't put on the field but I got to be aggressive because this is a back and forth type game so a lot to process and think about back to throw it's Daniels working that left side now didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few well it's important in this game this offense gets the running back involved out in the perimeter in space where he can do some damage that time they got it to him throwing the football he picked up a couple of yards but it gives the defense something to think about if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum and the pressure gets there and down he goes the 18 when linebackers Blitz not only do they have to be able to beat offensive lineman but they're going to have to beat running backs and tight ends you've got to have moves in your repertoire and that linebacker showed that there Stanford lines up to punted away they've been busy out there to punt for the fifth time today he'll get away another punt he's been really active today and no doubt he's going to earn his varsity letter TCU will send its offense back onto the field fires to the big fella and that was some kind of collision between a couple of big bodies there and he stopped from getting the first down oh that just really nice catch by the big tight end throwing those Ms up there catching the football the horn frogs want to move [Applause] quickly and the pass is incomplete Jarred Loose by the hit well this defense knew coming in they were going to see some RPL and they were going to see some quick game a nice job there taking the throw away from the quarterback some third down conversions tougher than others this one a long one on third down from the 43 back to throw it's Hoover makes the grab on the left and they stop him just short of the stick it'll bring up a decision on fourth down nice Patience by the quarterback here working against Zone coverage he was allowing his receiver an opportunity to find that open space in the defense before pulling the trigger and the frogs line up to punt it away a fairly short distance here toward the sidelines not his best work the Stanford offense making its way back onto the field off the play fake on first down to throw it's complete a quick tackle made but he's got plenty for the first down and how about the defense how big was that stop forcing the punt getting it back to the offense and all of a sudden you feel the momentum now on their side now on first down from the 43 yd line trying play action pocket starts to collapse and the blitz gets to him just like that this defense will bring pressure from the linebacker level from the cornerback level free safety level and the strong safety level they're bringing it from all over the field after the big first down sack for the D it's second down he's looking to throw finds a tight end and they swarm him under sometimes you have to put it in a tight window and sometimes the window is Garg and it was there yeah that was one of them big old huge windows and and I tell you what when you throw over the middle of the field a lot of times quarterbacks are a little bit hesitant when you're that open it's easy to pull the trigger easy to make the decision make the read get the ball to your receiver looking for a man it's Daniels it's complete to the left and a big time grab there knocked down immediately but not before he gets it to the 40 we asked earlier this week who's your favorite receiver and of course of course he said the open one but we know who he really wants to go to on third down the best one I mean I think the open one obviously the politically correct answer but you want to find the guy that you got that great chemistry with you know exactly where he's going to be you got that Bond and that trust you know it's difficult for QB sometimes when you're throwing to your running backs because they're not receivers you really got to be perfect with the ball placement you got to make that a catchable throw a little bit too tough for the RB on that one and here comes com the offense on second down he's looking to throw catch in the middle it's Taylor well nice completion there finding the tight end and what's so beautiful about that is while they didn't get the first they were able to pick up enough yards now to make the third down manageable really putting this offense in a good position kick the field goal from here it's a 51 y get a few on third down and life is much better they're going to throw it again unloads to the wide out and a missed opportunity on third down as the defense knocks it free and fourth down is coming up and after that incompletion at this juncture of the game a field goal here would be nice on fourth down obviously but do you trust your defense to keep getting stops if you don't and you've got to go for it here on Fourth and short a huge pressurized kick coming right now as this game hangs in the balance it's good all tied up here in the fourth quarter how nice is it as a head coach to have a kicker like this it makes these decisions on fourth down so much easier just trut him out there and let him stroke it through the upright [Music] we've got a Dandy going here all tied up in the fourth quarter and about to kick it away on the run from inside his own five nice job by the kickoff team everybody's stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 TCU has it back in the horn frogs go on offense hit hard as he released the ball on that first down pass and it never had a chance this this defense felt coming into the game that if he was going to try to throw from the pocket they could get to him and affect his accuracy and they did on that last play after they couldn't connect it's second and 10 wants to throw it's Hoover and that's going to fall to the ground incomplete that was a physical match up there third down coming well that's one the offense would love to have back that's a play they practice over and over and over they feel like they can run that play in their sleep not able to connect there now on Third and 10 if they can move the chains here maybe they can get this drive started couldn't find a man and just had to throw it away to avoid a negative play the horn frogs will call on their punt team let's see if he can help the coverage team out with this one now on the return returns like that are why you don't settle for the fair catch if you don't have to picks up just a little bit of yards to help out the O wide out in motion single back formation and they give it to it he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple don't you love energetic defenses that fly around that make things happen the ones that get in the back field the running back tries to go somewhere where do you want him to go there there is nowhere to go nice job by the defense creating the tackle for a loss on first down after getting knocked back to open this drive it's second and 12 to the ground with the back a strong tackle and wrap up from the Junior they'll try to pick up a few here on third down but from here it would be a 60yd attempt looking to throw it's Daniels receiver looks at in it's complete and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first first down he just didn't have a chance to get loose and make his way to that first down marker I think fans get upset sometimes like run your route past the sticks so we get the first down but nice job by the defense understanding where the sticks were and forcing the fourth down fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way punt goes out of bounds and a really nice job as they stick them deep in their own end they'll mark it around the 10 to the air on first down gets it out quickly I think really good wide receivers do a good job of making every route kind of look the same you could tell he this looked like a vertical route so if I'm a DB I'm bailing and all of a sudden he sits that hitch down nice job by the wide receiver create enough separation to create a positive game and the horn frogs will hustle to the [Applause] line on the option quick toss and they just didn't get anybody on that defense out of position and they will lose yardage on that one linebackers have such an amazing responsibility got to play run got to play pass how about this seeing the Run aggressively getting downhill and getting in the back field and making a tackle for a loss this is the type of play that can give the offense momentum third and short from inside the 20 they'll to get it through the air got his man quickly he steps out of bounds but he's got a first down on the play this dude is putting in work out of the slide and he is just wearing out this defense man you see it Reese in football they just these slot guys are so quick so athletic you back them up off the football so you can't get hands on them and you just find ways to continue to get him the football he's making plays so I'm going to continue to throw it his way all kinds of room to throw that one in in there and he goes down right there but a solid pick up and it'll be a first down yeah and Palmer I don't know what his grin's going to be but hitting over 400 yards on the day I I think coaches are going to be pretty impressed with the day this young man had no doubt I think for defensive coordinators moving forward now you're going to be charged with having to find answers to try to slow this guy down today we've seen this defense try blitzing Zone coverage man coverage they mix up Personnel none of it work this guy has carved them apart boy there wasn't much room to wiggle for that running back there none at all great job by the defense getting the Back Field quickly closing up all the holes Nowhere to Run they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 to throw it's Hoover throws to the wide out wide open down field just gashing this defense a big Gainer to the Y Line the horn frogs come to the line with a fresh set of downs they'll throw it on first down oh and it's p off this could be huge in a tie game got some room to run he's at the 30 the 10 and he has taken it all the way back touchdown Stanford what a shift in momentum what a big time play he just took matters into his own hands man what a mistake by the QB throwing the football his receiver obviously they weren't on the same page at all but the defender steps in front makes the big play and every kid's dream right you play defense you create the turnover and then you take it all the way to the [Music] inside lining up to tack one more onto that lead the extra point is good and now in the fourth up by a touchdown and an extra point they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six looking for an alley from inside his own 10 and he'll be brought down after a solid effort on that return TCU will send its offense back onto the field that last pick six a drive like that David can swing the momentum up just slithered through the tackle and he's got room to run they've got it to the 49 Y Line and they'll move the chains this quarterback is having a Heisman moment in this game these are the types of games that Heisman voters are going to pay attention to he's now got over 450 passing outs and the horn frogs come to the line in the hurry up dropping back it's Hoover finds his big tight end they get him down after he makes a catch the big fell the tight end the wide receiver in a tight end's body going up and making the catch line getting set on second down he's looking to throw right down the middle got him down field good execution they move the sticks and they've got it at the 33 man this quarterback is going to have to be deadly accurate here in this two-minute situation right and that's really what he's had to be all game long he hasn't had a lot of yards because the coverage has just been so tight he's had to be pinpoint perfect it's been hard just to find completions no doubt that's going to be the same thing here in this two-minute Drive they make the stop but the sweet growing catch is plenty to give him a first down we've got a Timeout on the field a tight game in the fourth and the Brain Trust will go to work they'll run it it's cook nice solid form tackle from this sophomore going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down they're working that left side and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain yeah and this is the time where I'm a defense I I'm I'm slow to get up I'm making sure I stay on that offensive player I'm trying to eat up as much clock and make this offense burn as much clock Palmer as I can and this coaching staff right now you know they're looking at the analytics too right how many timeouts do we have left we want to think about dialing up some play calls that get guys catching the football or get the ball out of bounds to stop the clock you've got a good Rhythm right here you're in a good position at the field to go win this thing but you've got to be really smart with your play calls and they are looking to pull even with a touchdown here in the fourth quarter to the air it's Hoover and he's got it he's got it for a touchdown and here in the final minute there a single Point behind man great execution that is how it's done late in the football game now all you need is that extra point bring the kicker out there this is what you do just like practice knock it through the uprights tie this football game and we might be looking at overtime soon this is supposed to be the easiest play in football except when there's this much pressure and that extra point was good and we are deadlocked here in the fourth a 70 yd touchdown drive and what a huge score and extra point there to get it tied in the final minute all tied up and just about set to kick it away here he comes comes from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 Stanford has it back the Cardinal offense returning to the field going down field for the big play and the DB forcing the incomplete pass with the deflection well the defense finally showing some life there it's been tough seding too because this offense has been lighting them up through the air but a nice individual effort that time forcing the incompletion still at their own 20 after that last incompletion it's second and 10 couldn't connect on first down now back to the air got his Man Down field time out on the field and everybody want to make sure they're organized as we come down the gut of the game the offense lines up at the 40 they've got a first down looking to move it through the air got an open man oh and the defense in Chase
