tradition and it ought to be a fantastic clash as we'll see a squad from the Mountain West the unlb rebels taking on a team from the Big 12 the Houston Cougar for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys can't wait to get this one [Applause] [Music] [Applause] started Houston ready to put it deep and get this game [Applause] [Music] going on the move from inside is five andam and the UN off will take so the UNLV Rebels offense will have the first possession of the game and here's the man they rally around and he has earned that type of respect David you dang right you earn it by doing it and he's done it at such a high level everyone believes in this young man in Palmer there's a reason why you're right David he's been in the big moments and he's won the big games this guy delivers when the game is on the line and there was no SP face nowhere to go that play went absolutely nowhere sometimes you just need a dude to show up and make a play and he did sometimes you just need to block that dude they didn't didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 from the gun give on the inside get some work done there pick up of four to the 22 just a simple power power football be strong be big be physical make it a fourth quarter game make them feel you keep them off didn't take long to need a clutch play on the opening drive it's third and seven back to pass it's sluka he'll get rid of it and they can't make the connection on third down know what the rebels will send out the punt unit this will be their first punt of the afternoon he only needs a sliver of daylight coverage team was down there to Coral and they made the Stop and they'll mark it at the 39 the Coopers offense will go to work for the first time today first down for this offense he wants to throw finds his man it's Johnson you know the short passing game is a great go-to weapon for any offensive coordinator in the first quarter because it's reliable obviously but it also allows you to see how the defense is going to react and play so for coordinators this can really open up the rest of your playbook for the rest of the game this offense has a second down play on the move they get him on the ground after he gets enough to move the sticks all right defense that's that's what we can't do we can't give up this many chunk yards on the ground got to commit more guys to the line of scrimmage got to get those running backs on the ground that's way too easy here comes the offense on First and 10 from the [Applause] 47 looking to move it through the air get it out on the screen not able to break the big one on that screen to the running back but he found enough and a solid pick up on first down one of the things I love about this offense is they're very versatile in their passing attack they throw to receivers and tight ends and the screen game is big as well this guy is a weapon you're seeing that here early and now on second down for this offense Smith wants to throw fires to the wide out makes the grab he's all the way down to the 27 yd line and they are threatening really nice job by quarterback and wide receiver this is why you do film work this is why you throw on air all off season I know I get Zone coverage I know exactly where I'm breaking I know exactly where to deliver the football nice throw nice catch this Houston offense about to snap it on first down again the give to the back oh how did you make that move how about the patience from this sophomore to hunt that green grass first down physicality wins football games being able to run the football and create balance and and right here just chews up another first down gives you another chance to maybe continue to run the football and I feel like this guy too is just an explosive play waiting to happen his vision his quickness and he's got to burst if you give this guy just a crease he's going to hit it and right now he's doing some damage on this defense operating in the Red Zone here on on second down going to run it it's Jenkins and he'll get this one back to the line of scrimmage but no farther than that and just a great job by the defense being Stout right that's your job be Stout up front stuff in the Run play make them get in more passing situations but do not let them run the football that's 101 stop the run first boy they'd love to pick up this conversion and go to work with they first and goal on Third and short they'll try to convert through the air and good hands there by the defense on that shot to the end zone well on Third and short in field goal range they dial up the pass play quarterback was trying to get through his progressions there was just simply nobody open couldn't make in accurate enough throw ball Falls incomplete Now setting up a big decision here on fourth down now on fourth down now up the it's a fake the kicker wants to throw it it's a fake agage of little giants the Mad Hatter is loose and it's a touchdown just textbook execution on the fake field goal and trickeration equals touchdown and we saw them practicing this throughout the week but when are you get a call it are you going to call it because you got to have the onions to call it in a big moment they call it they canvert what a call by the offense lining up to attack one more onto that lead extra point and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game that touchdown Drive covered 61 yds and the score comes on a 5yd touchdown pass the kickoff team out there set to boot it away kick he'll bring it back from inside his SP really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 unlb ready to go back to work on offense looking for room it's Thomas crosses the 30 he's got to away and he'll move his way forward to the first down they'll mark it at the 35 and here we go if you're an offense you got to get that ground game going so you can have some balance and then you give it to your quarterback Palmer and let him make some plays down the field later on yeah exactly you know coming into this game this offense knew they were going to have have to someway somehow at least establish the semblance of a running game for exactly what you just said you got to be able to use play action pass later in this game to get some explosive plays down the field and it's a play like that that we just saw which can help them get that going offensive lineman love to run the power why you run power you run power then you can play action you don't want that defense to be sitting there saying it's a pass it's a pass having to pass block every play you got to keep defenses off bounds they can really be aggressive iive after that last play it's second and three motion from the offense little touch pass to the receiver they'll get the first down it's spotted on the 49 I love the idea and I love just finding ways to get your best players out in the open field this pre- snap motion and using it to their advantage on that last play I think that was a nice call and the rebels come to the line with a fresh set of downs they'll leave it with him at the 40 there he goes and that first Defender was just waving at him after that sweet move he picked up the first down defense is going to have their hands full trying to get this guy in the ground man he's got some serious moves once he has the ball in his hands now they've moved it just inside the 40 first and 10 from the 39 used the play fake now to throw working that left side and he's brought down after a nice game yeah and you've seen these curl routes this is a timing route understanding that Ball's got to come out of my hand right when he hits the top of that curl nice job by the QB finding him nice catch from the 22 on First and 10 looking for space it's Thomas not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven now that's what you're try to do as a defense limit those damages when they run the football get them on the ground short gains to set your defense for positive situations down the road got three on first down it's second and seven it's a reverse he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three [Music] down both teams wanted to establish the run and they have done exactly that in the first quarter theyve switched into the field and we're ready to get things started here in the second quar already well within field goal range how aggressive they'll be on Third and long from the 22 feeling some heat pulls it in it's white and he'll take it in and house it touchdown Rebels my man get him the ball he will do the rest catches the football Walks Into The End Zone feed that man The Rock [Music] [Applause] now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic hit that one with some aggression for the point after so it's an 80 yard drive and the scoring play comes on a touchdown pass from 22 yds [Applause] out and we're all square as he's set to kick it away set a kick off here he comes from inside his own five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 here comes the Houston offense once again really good balance on that last Drive they mixed it up all over the place Jesse yeah how nice too to have the defense on their heels because at this point they don't know what's coming at them they had problems stopping everything that last drive so I think this defense would come back with a little more aggressiveness I mean they let them have what they wanted now they got to dictate to this offense a little bit more Houston wants to play fast Smith dropping to pass throws to the wide out and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down this defense has a lot of speed especially in the secondary and you saw that speed that Defender got to that receiver so quick and because of the hit incomplete pass here they come on second and 10 from the 47 after the incompletion leaves it with the B back one step WRA twep squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum trying to move the sticks on third down through the air and he's got it at the T they make the tackle but he's got a fresh set of downs and it's first and goal from the seven third down and long is the hardest down to execute in football but this offense made it look easy nice job being aggressive making the big play down the field and now set up in a position where they can go get a touchdown on first and [Applause] goal they ripped off a huge huge chunk and now a little chunk is needed to pay it off out of the gun looking to throw and it's picked off at the goal line and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception who says defensive backs don't have hands nice job breaking on the football and making the catch a lot of times you see guys SWAT it down or you see them trying to catch it it looks like they have two left hands defensive backs don't catch real well nice job breaking on the football nice job securing the int and actually catching it guys the Running Rebels offense ready to go back to work this could be a real turning point in the game they scored a touchdown they got a stop and now nothing but green grass down the middle a huge play there as he has it inside the 20th to 19 what a beautiful throw and catch on this play and I love the job the receiver did tracking the ball in the air nice job of locating the throw and then hauling it in they say it's still a game of field position and that last one just flipped this baby they've got it first and 10 in the Red Zone the give to the running back from the shotgun working his way and keeping those legs moving picks up five down to the 14 I like this guy as a running back because he can run between the tackles and he can also go outside he can really do it all going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone he'll keep it himself he's all the way down to the three and Electric Run has him set up well this is one of the fastest quarterbacks in college football and that's why the option's a good idea because if he can get out in space and he gets a chance to get down field he is really difficult to tackle and he's very difficult to catch as you saw in that last play getting a first down dropping back it's sluka it's incomplete he was shooting for the end zone right there it's now andal to go got nothing last time now second and goal from the three he's looking to throw got it and he was straining for the goal line but the defense stopped him short that's a great example of the defense there tackling the catch as soon as the big fella caught the ball down he went not picking up the first and after getting it right on the edge they'll try to p PCH it in on third down quarterback flips it ahead quickly to the receiver and he won't be able to get in as the defense gets him down at the one and that's a gut punch especially for the offensive coordinator because that was sort of a foreign look the pre-nap motion a timing play trying to get the receiver the football quickly you're expecting to outflank the defense but give the defense a ton of credit they made the bigger play and now they set you up and a fourth down that is no good and here in the second quarter we remain all kned [Music] up Houston sending the offense back onto the field boy they had that last Drive moving a little bit David but then the mistake just crushed them yeah and those mistakes are going to happen you get to throw the football you're going to throw interceptions but I think I stay aggressive with this offense I get back to what I did in the first part of that drive what made me successful I agree David just turn the page if you're a quarterback right on this drive you did a lot of good things there leading up to that pick forget about it move on play the next play wide out in motion touch pass on the Jet Sweep that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there well and on these little push passes timing is so important you're trying to snap it right as he's getting a full head of steam when he gets the ball he's hitting the outside and David it puts the defense in such a difficult spot you immediately have to be rotating when you see that motion so everybody's got to communicate and kind of bump over that's why offenses love to run it just it makes the defense communicate and see if you can just get him out of a spot he's run out of BS but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down yeah way to be creative way to get the ball in the perimeter really quickly get some speed outside all you got to do is secure that edge and you're just trying to get that first down nice job nice play call by the offense and the Cougars are in the hurry up makes a connection major gaps in that defense and he got loose and they finally knock him down at the 41 this offense is just so dynamic because they've got Playmakers at all the skill positions right we just saw a big play in the running game now we see one in the passing game there's not one dude that you can key on here if you're on defense to try and slow them down [Applause] from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and when you play defensive end it's all about getting off the football you can tell gets off the football really fast Gets In The Back Field gets the running back before he knows what hit him what a play by the defensive end second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning running back searching for a hole he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple the clock has stopped and we've reached the two-minute warning before halftime I'm not positive but that first down marker might be in the next County give to the running back and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down and sticking to the run I tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell Houston will be forced to punt first punt of the day and he'd love to lock them up close to their goal line the ball hits at the five and it'll go into the end zone for a Touchback the UNLV offense ready to return to the field you want to talk about taking the wind out of your sails Drive the ball down the field and miss the field goal David you know what don't leave it up to Kickers execute better offensively I think you move the ball nice you got to keep that in mind but Palmer I think you got to stay aggressive and don't settle for field goals yeah because you got to know there's just no margin for error right now you just have got to be able to execute at a higher level right on target with that last pass now it's second and medium dropping back it's sluka makes his connection referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything being just right with a big play coming so many Playmakers so much speed in college football so many big plays after the catch not on this instance the defense did a great job reacting to the throw getting there in a hurry and making sure he didn't get any yards after that catch the offense calls a timeout to stop the clock when you're a playmaker like this guy is your coaches are going to dial up plays intended for you especially on third down that's what you saw in that last play there was no question where quarterback was going with that football all week long they decided on the biggest Downs of this game we're going to Target our best player and we're going to make sure that he gets looks it doesn't matter what the coverage is and you saw it right there on that play yeah that was a good play on the ball get his hand up and get the tip get the deflection ball bounces up in the air falls to the ground incomplete pass after they couldn't connect it's second and 10 he's looking to throw got it set up on the outside finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down hey man sometimes you get the perfect play call at the perfect time that time the defense blitzing offensive line allowed everybody to run up field and they slip in the running back screening behind it there was nobody there to make a tackle and this offense generates a massive play to the air on first down they'll throw it to the back on the screen and he'll step across the sidelines after making a good gain on that one well you've seen the last two plays now this guy's versatility and you've seen why he might be playing on Sundays in the not too distant future this guy can catch the ball he's a big part of their passing game and he's a weapon and a guy that this defense has got to be ready for it just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime dropping back it's sluka going to try to pop one on the screen he's one out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down that is a time honored way to slow down the rush hit him with the screen and a chunk Point yeah such a great job cuz you're flying up the field to get to the quarterback cuz everything looks like pass down the field let those guys get up the field throw it right behind him he does a little bit of the rest making some moves getting up field making oh what a spectacular layout in catch we've got a timeout in the waning seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more plays here comes the field goal unit as they'll try to get the three it's good and guys after the field goal now they have the lead [Music] so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away from inside the 10 here he comes and he make the Stop and that is the end of the first half we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halftime update all right guys thanks looks like we've had ourselves a very enjoyable first half so far toughest job inside that Stadium right now might just be the scoreboard operator after all those first downs and touchdowns big plays have defined this one thanks to two of the best receiving core in all of college football let's see if these defenses can adjust and make the necessary chest moves and with that let's send it back to the guys in the cage in Southeast Texas the rebels will kick it away first and we'll start the second half on the run from inside his own five and the return man has no place to run no place to hide and a place to be tackle Smith wants to throw unloads to the wide out how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion another incompletion and I've said that a lot and these teams are just struggling I mean the offense just doesn't know what to do nothing's working ground game Throw game it's kind of been a rock fight on both sides second and 10 here [Applause] football with the Run he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and you can tell that play went nowhere from the start it was definitely a great play by that Defender oh yeah he got the back field so quick the running back had absolutely no chance this defense has kept them backed up now one more stop and they can get off the field on Third and long he's looking downfield to throw PS it in and a pick up of better than 30 yards on that completion before the defense brings him down one of the first things I want to do when I come into a game is I'm going to go where do I have the advantage where are my guys better than yours and maybe they feel good about their matchup out wide some of those wide receivers making some of these big plays down the field this is a good sign for this [Applause] offense the give to the single back they'll rip off eight on that play it's second and two coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that got eight on first down now looking at a second and two movement here from the tight end the give out of the gun tackled but he has a first down and you know big chunks like this don't happen unless you commit to the Run game you got to get those big boys up front into the game understanding I want to knock people off the football create some holes like you do here for my running back make the game easy the Cougars have this offense rolling he'll come out throwing on first down quickly to the tight end put it right on him sweet play good pick up and they'll move the change with the first down really good job working through his progression you get it to him quickly and the big tight end has a chance to run a little and a really good job by the QB throwing an accurate throw I I got to hit those guys on the Move On The Run so they can do this they can catch the football get up field and chew up some extra yards finds a little bit of room give him a couple down to the 23 and the defense doing great job committing to the run when you commit to the run like this obviously you can give up some plays in the passing game but you got to stop the run first picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second Down Smith dropping to pass fires left he got it touchdown Houston hello and with that they've got the lead here in the second half number Z the field position was bad the Finish was great great way to answer that poor field position poor field position no problem how about it great job by the offensive coordinator this offense getting in a good Rhythm early even backed up even in a predictable situation great job coming out ready to try the point after on for the extra point and with the extra point they're up 14- 10 about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll start the return inside his five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 you LV ready to go back to work on offense always good to get points on a drive David but Chip Shot field goals can leave you a little empty and I think it's great to get points but the great teams get touchdowns in the red area you got to get out there this time and execute a little better on this drive you're absolutely right David and generally the best Red Zone offenses are the ones that run the ball the best so let's see if they can be a little bit more physical on this drive offense has it at the 28 on first down to the ground with the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions after losing a couple on that last here's second and 12 to the air it's sluka he finds his man and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up I like the decision by the quarterback here just get the ball out of your hands get it to your playmaker a lot of times he'll dance and make even bigger plays than he did here but it was still a positive game it'll take some work to get to the sticks it's third and long from the 30 the snap sets up to throw safe completion on the screen good tackle there to stop him short of the first down and now they have to make a call and I think if I'm a QB I like the decision I get it to my my running back who's really good after the catch and really good with the ball in his hands but the defense did the job they got him on the ground they gave up some yards but they forced the fourth down and the rebels line up the punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away not going to risk a return here he'll make the fair catch the Houston offense ready to go back to work man what a drive last time for the touchdown that passing attack was Lethal David and you know you hear all these stupid commentators like me and Jesse talking about create balance you know run and pass no when you throw that good spin the ball around so the defense has to find a way to affect the quarterback on this drive because last drive he had way too much time to throw after misfiring it's second down the give to the tailb and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that the defense is about firing off hitting the offensive guys and staying in your gaps everybody knowing where they're supposed to be you could tell the defense everyone was right where they're supposed to be nowhere to run now on Third and 10 if they can move the chains here maybe they can get this drive started from the gun wants to pass keeps looking downfield he'll pull it down they make the stop but what a job on the scramble to get loose and pick up that first down I just love this guy's instincts right when things aren't open right away he never panics he just understands the situation where he is on the field and he's so confident in his own natural ability that he has the ability to run go get the first down keep this drive rolling they'll give it to the back slams ahead for a yard out to the 33 down at the 33 yd line brings up second down didn't get much on first down it's second and nine using his legs it's Jenkins breaks the tackle good pick up on the ground and they'll Mark him down at the 39 I think tackling is about effort most of the time it's about how much passion how much physicality you can bring to get your guy on the ground refuse not to get him on the ground that's not a big back you got to get that guy on the ground you can't let him pick up an extra couple yards and stay ahead of the sticks they'll try to pick it up on the ground they were all over him nowhere to go as that third down play turned into a disaster you know defensively you live live by the Blitz and you die by the blitz that time they dialed it up into the Run play and the linebacker able to make a nice tackle Houston sends the punt team onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it away no return coming he'll call for the fair Catch and you want to talk about his favorite receiver it might be everybody based on the number of guys getting touches and a chance to show off their hands in the passing game [Music] when you're dealing with a deficit like this it's all about somebody stepping up to make a play and you might as well start here in the fourth quarter leaves it with the back and a pickup of eight opens a world of opportunities on second and two down after the good pickup on first down let's see if they keep it on the ground wide receiver now comes in motion off play action gets it out quickly he breaks a tackle he will step out of bounds but not before the big pickup and a first down for this offense well we see another catch by this guy this defense is going to need to do a better job of tackling the catch in in coverage I know they want to slap the ball away but if you can't do it and force the incompletion you've got to at least make sure you're able to drag him down to the ground as soon as he catches the ball and they try the middle of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge you got to have that defense you know you can go to in running situations your base defense where you say okay this is where I'm going to start and I'm going to stop the run stuff it up front my guys play Big up front then if I need to add some blitzes to it later on down the Road I can but great job in the base defense making a Play here's the handoff he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of a three well they're just trying to run the ball but that time there is absolutely nowhere for the running back to go and as a result that's a tackle for loss here they come facing third and long from the 40 looking to throw and he needs a bunch he's going to let one fly down the middle and the pass it'sit picked off trying to take it back a dangerous cover man and a dangerous Return Man after the pick as he gets it all the way to the 44 yd line man that is how you get it done as a defense when you're playing cover one like you got the middle of the field safety but everybody else is Banning up nice job running with this guy seeing the football breaking on it making the interception making the big play for this defense the Houston offense comes onto the field after a punt on their last possession they are set up in plus territory this time and honestly it wouldn't have mattered if they scored a touch down their last possession you've got to be able to turn the page and see this as a brand new opportunity to go get points yeah and your defense has set you up for a position to get points right away now let's get this offense back rolling again create some momentum just get a few first downs and in scoring position second down coming up from the gun they'll try to impose their will they make the stop but this running game moves to change as they get the first down well the defense didn't Blitz they didn't have everybody in gaps and the offensive line took advantage at the point of attack getting some push opening up a hole and the offense ripping off a nice run there they'll snap it from the thir 34 on First and 10 used the play fake now to throw moving keeping the eyes down field the quarterback bought as much time as he could but the defense got to him and sacked him that's a curious play call offensively to try to throw after that great gain on the ground the snap before if you're winning in the trenches up front keep it going going let the Big Fellas go to work I don't like the idea of throwing the ball there first down sack pushes it back now it's second down caught in the back field it's Johnson on the move at the 30 he's out of bounds after for a big pickup but there's a flag on the field and this might be coming back un defense so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty the Cougars will snap it on First and 10 Smith wants to throw quickly complete and the defense coming with bad intentions they knock him down for a loss we're trying to throw the screen out to the receiver the defense though having none of that they are just too physical they're too fast they force a negative play this offense could not have executed in this situation any better just draining some time off the clock quick release by the QB they'll get it down to the 8 yd line on that throw and catch and the defense is backed up against the wall nice job decision making by the quarterback there in the RPO not handing it off knowing he had to throw it but then also understanding his open guy was going to be in the right flat they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal from the gun he'll try to throw for it on third down here's an interception oh did they need that turnover talk about having to have it we needed to force the turnover we had to get the football back they're in such a good position to run out the clock try to win no sir our ball first down guys the Running Rebels offense ready to go back to work mistakes are going to happen as they did on that last drive now how will they respond Jesse and this is the kind of and they get to the quarterback and knock him down back at the 16 and I love playing man coverage on the back end getting those receivers faces don't let them feel comfortable and run Zone where they can find all these holes in the zone and my Rush can't get home pressure them pressure them pressure him a first down sack can wreck a drive let's see what they've got on second and 14 looking downfield it's sluka and it'll be incomplete this is some physical pass defense and you see those balls in practice sometimes they're just off the mark you don't know how to control it you don't know what goes wrong but sometimes QBs Miss and it's an incompletion you make up the game plan and not a lot on the play sheet for this third and long from inside their own 20 looking downfield and he needs a bunch can't make the connection on third down thanks to that tough hard knows pass defense and now it's fourth down after that incompletion fourth and long now on your own side of the field you're trailing in the fourth quarter what's your go-to play call here in the passing game where is the matchup that you trust in to come up with a big one to give yourself a chance to stay alive and win this game fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he gets a block he'll get it up to about the 44 yd line before they slam the brakes on him here comes the Houston offense once again and boy they missed an opportunity last time throwing that pick in the Red Zone David yeah and you got to put that frustration behind you you can't turn it over that's that's a cardinal sin you know better than that Jesse you can't take points off the board but you got to move on you do I I think he just got way too overeager down in in the red zone that last drive so just come out here trust your reads trust what your coaches have told you to do and just go out and execute the offense the play action fake and he can't find anyone open and down he goes a sack here late in the fourth linebackers moving trying to confuse the quarterback this third down play might be the last chance for this defense to stay in the game and sure tackling there to keep him from getting the first down marker timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible Houston will be forced to punt let's see if he can help the coverage team out with this one you'd think they would have had a good chance to down that one deep but the bounce carries it into the end zone for the Touchback scanning the field it's sluka makes the grab over the middle and that's a very productive first down play and bringing up second and three I think in this situation 2 minutes trailing late I think you got to be thrown to the sticks every time I don't know if these short completions are going to get it done you're just not going to have enough time to get down the field so from a play calling standpoint I think you want to think about being a little bit more aggressive looking to the big tight end it's complete and perhaps a touchdown saving tackle as they gets him down at the 37 a big gain there as they did a tremendous job working the middle of the field yeah and if you're going to complete that throw re quarterbacks got to play with anticipation you've got to get it out of your hands early and give your receiver an opportunity before the defense gets to the ball looking to go up top on first down dances away from the Heat on the run and he'll slide to avoid the hit a Nifty pickup there quick timeout call by the offense after the play trying to preserve every minute possible let's see what they've got on second down he's looking to throw snags it over the middle defense is there to make the stop but he's got the first down and they'll have it first and goal with the six I don't know who on defense is going to cover this guy honestly he could be a problem for this defense over the middle of the field in the passing game so the opportunity with a touchdown here to take a fourth quarter lead wants to go up top pocket starts to collapse the offense gets a quick time out at this point every second is pressure defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming he's looking to throw he wants it all touchdown UNLV and inside a minute to go and they've got the lead UNLV and how about this QB coming up clutch in a big moment got to have it you've dreamed about it your whole life he puts the ball on the money they make the catch take the lead with seconds remaining on the clock needs this one to push the lead to a field goal and it's good and he pushes the lead to three so that scoring Drive took only six plays and the clutch late score that almost certainly will be the game winner about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown and he takes this from inside the five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 Houston sending the offense back onto the field Smith dropping to pass missed his receiver there it's incomplete well I know it hasn't been a tremendous day statistically for this quarterback but his decision making has been good enough to win this game hasn't thrown a lot of TD so far but when things aren't open he throws it away like on that play right there he's not putting his team in a bad spot and that's why they still have a shot to walk out of here with a W he's looking for a man on second down got it in the middle it's Jenkins time out called by the offense we have 18 seconds left this defense is going to have to be careful not only do they have to worry about this guy running the football but they've got to keep their eye on him when he runs routes too he is a versatile bat it's caught downfield and he's running in the open tremendous awareness to get what he could and get out of bounds and now the offense trying to score one late love the play call a 2-minute situation here in the fourth quarter outbreaking route so you can make the catch hopefully get out of bounds and save yourself clock [Applause] Houston coming to the line with a new set of downs wants to throw on first down he's going for it all the pass Falls incomplete and there are 8 seconds left how nice is it as a defense when you've got a corner that can play on an island and be as dominant as this guy has been all game long we just saw another great great example of it right there breaking on the ball and knocking it away let's see which way they go after the incompletion second and 10 from the 39 fires toward the end zone and swatted down by the defense to stop the scoring opportunity well this defense has had the QB's number all game long one of the reasons why is because this cornerback when he's on an island he's winning the 50/50 balls and he's not letting anything get thrown over his head downfield great job in coverage disguising what he's doing and knocking balls away on Third and long he has to throw for it and the pass is incomplete and the ball game is over and this
