strength vers strength matchup tonight between the 49ers and the Jets last season Brock pie was among the most effective quarterbacks in the NFL on deep passes of 15 or more air yards the Jets defense was among the best at defending those kinds of passes so who gets the Edge RC and Marcus down on the sidelines Ryan what are you expecting to see from that Jets defense tonight I mean from the Jets defense we know what they are we know what they can do up front Germaine Johnson somebody that swag loves coming off of the edge quinon Williams one of the best D tackles in Bol and maybe the first or second best duo between Mosley and Williams on the inside they lock up outside we get that but what are you going to do with the safety position Chuck Clark comes over from the Baltimore Ravens Tony Adams and a a former undrafted free agent can they stop Brock pie from operating in between the numbers in the middle of the field we know that's where Debo Samuel lives George KD also Brandon I can make plays there and Christian mcaffrey what are you going to do with that matchup and so I'm really excited to see that and lastly if Brandon auk is only going to play a few plays or he's only going to be in a few packages will that be third down and will someone like s Gardner travel with him since they know he'll be the ex RC you know what's interesting man and you brought it up with CJ Mosley and Quincy Williams we know that Kyle Shanahan wants to displace you before the ball is snapped San Francisco be what I be on that yak okay and and the thing is man is like we know that this team devastates you with tackling in the open field so you talking about two of the best linebackers in the NFL when Christian mcaffrey is spread out or they move him to the slot or they throw a little out to him can you make these plays in space to line up again and play more defense I think that's going to be critical you talk about the middle of the field as well when he's running the football on those Zone stretches and when he has those cutback situations these two linebackers to me are some of the most athletic and fast going sideline very like in the image of San Francisco's linebackers to be honest with you I want to see when Debo Samuel and Christian mcaffry gets in space and it's Quincy Williams or as Chuck Clark or as CJ Mosley can we get them on the ground and play another down cuz if not that's how they devastate you and other big thing that the New York Jets do is this little men tackle and big men run right that's the best sort of defenses and when you watch this defense that's exactly who they are the big piece is going to be how do you match up with all the movements and the Motions when they are trying to get you in space are you in man are you in cover three where you understand match your Zone and so it's going to be about communication for the New York Jets but I believe when they have guys in the area they understand leverage they understand where their help is coming to and they understand contained and that's a big way to stop the San Francisco 49ers Dam we look good yeah you guys do I can't see us somehow they didn't make all six quarterbacks have ever started an NFL season opener after turning 40 and none of those guys had to do it coming off a torn Achilles that's what Aaron Rogers has to do looks like he'll become the seventh 40s something quarterback to to start an opener tonight you talked to him yesterday how was he feeling ahead of this game yeah Laura it's been 610 days since Aaron Rogers last played a full game that was his last game with the Packers back at the end of the TW 2022 season so it's no wonder why Aaron says he's got to go out there tonight and remind himself that he can do this he's got to remember that he is the great Aaron roders but his coaches and teammates say they need no such reminders because they say they've been seeing it with Rogers throughout training camp and preseason offensive coordinator Nathaniel hacket said Rogers looks like himself and that the arm is still the arm and defensive tackle quinnon Williams who has to go up against Rogers every day in practice he backed that up he said the ball just sounds different wizzing past your ear when Aaron Rogers is throwing it there's a a zip on it he said and you can actually hear it running back Bree Hall who got to take only one hand off from Rogers last season said he's hoping that Aaron will rely on him to to take some of the offensive pressure off Hall said having Rogers back has just raised the entire team's level of play and desire to do more just because of the standard of Excellence that he sets every day that everyone Laura he says just wants to be a part of it congratulations Lisa on another season on Monday Night how great he's been but I am going under not just because Rogers is something of a mystery box obviously head into the season we haven't seen him throw the football long time but also because I expect the the Jets to come out with a very runey game plan and that might affect one of my other picks here okay that next one gree Hall we've heard about how many people like him Aaron Rogers loves him over under 70 yards for the Jets running back so this is where I'm going over and some of it is because I think Bree Hall has been held back by the lack of a passing game I think he's going to face lighter boxes it also to me is game plan specific the San Francisco 49ers defense is very good not as great against the run in fact they actually rank near the bottom of the NFL in a lot of metrics Advan metrics and run defense last year the Jets know that I think they're going to lean into it how about the 49ers and Brandon auk he was in the headlines all offseason finally got that deal done over under four receptions for the Niners wi out tonight this is an over for me he hit this over uh several times last season most of the times actually most games I also have a general rule if a guy gets paid I'm usually going to bedon him in his first game after the contract because I feel like he's got something to prove but also it's Brandon auk I don't think it'll be uh too challenging despite the fact that of course in SAS Garder he does have a difficult matchup yeah they like to let uh Brandon eat in this offense ba back in action for these 49ers and get in on trending parlays in ESPN bet as his Squad takes the 29-27 victory Marcus the Texans offense was so good last season but it looks like they might have gotten better what did you see out of him Sunday one the Joe Mixon pickup was sneaky one of the best moves this offseason second this was a 30th rank Rush team in the league last year this year they won't be um I think adding this element with CJ stad and how well he plays on time the things that he can do with his arm but the Run game to me was the most impressive and then at the end of the game when you had to have it you were able to seal the game but Joe Mixon looked explosive they had this Zone scheme working getting them outside of the tackles or right off the back inside foot of the offensive tackles and look this Indianapolis Coast defense is good now this is this this was a challenge for you to be able to turn yards up front I thought they did a phenomenal job but oh my God if the Texans can run the football with what they can do in game this year and be consistent with it and the way that they were able toate pressure on the on the quarterback yesterday defensively we may be talking about a team in AFC Championship dude I remember three or four years ago when the Bengals ran a re real offense part of it was the Zone run scheme with Joe Mixon and Marcus your point yes Lord is spot on that zone scheme and Joe's really good at it when it comes to you got to have patience because you never know when the hole is going to present itself and then you got to be able to cut off one foot you got to press the outside leg of the tackle and then believe that the backside is going to collapse and when the hole presents itself put your foot in the go ground see how he gets in between those two offensive linen that's a skill set from these backs you saw it out of bunch here's another one out of motion now so often backs cut back and they cut all the way back and almost run themselves into the blockers again Joe's patience to wait for it wait and then the scene presents itself and obviously a physical finish at the very end so those are two inside zones again the cut back Lane off the bunch concept and he's really good at the outside
