city that was very happy to celebrate all of the things that you know they've accomplished recently opening the season with a rematch of the AFC Championship game and you know just getting to reveal that Super Bowl 58 Championship Banner they start against a Ravens team that's got a new guy young upand Comer named Derrick Henry used to torment the Chiefs during his days in Tennessee guess what sort of tormented him on the first drive of this one 11 PES 70 yards that is a score on the board it's 7even nothing but oh Patrick mes so the new guy that they have is Xavier worthy are you joking me sprinting into the end zone third straight failure or forgotten the rules Ravens first and 10 in their own 20 Chris Jones that is a fumble by Lamar Jackson recovered by the Chiefs and really when you watch it again that is all Chris Jones defense then the strip Kansas City able to get field goal after that turnover and made it 107 1310 at the half and then they opened up the second half with a little bit of this momes Rashid rice he's on the Move first down all right fourth quarter Lamar jackon he ran for 122 yards in this game twice in his career year two and year three he ran for a th yards he might do it again here and what a play to Isaiah ly and likely he's in what a move so first with his legs finally with his arm lot of Dink and dunk early from Lamar but now the Ravens down by three momes Worthy open and in what a debut for R rushy lost weight coming into this year and he looks quick and fast down the field it goes and it's complete and here come the Ravens again no timeouts left second and go oh Jackson rolling out Z flowers after the game actually Lamar says he wasn't even looking to flowers he's looking to his left and then saw him at the last second he didn't realize he was about to appear he was heading down field to baitman now third and goal time for one more play back of the end zone caught is it a touchdown and single a touchdown of course we're going to look at it the Ravens were going to go for two and the win the road but upon further review a sometimes it doesn't pay to have big feet by a toe on the line the Chiefs escape a 27-2 win over Jackson and Company soar your perspective on that touchdown you said it Jameson I thought it was a touchdown I thought it was a touchdown I still think it's a touchdown I Don't Really T you we going to talk about emotions you know you're disappointed you you thought I mean I don't know what it looked like on the replay so I can't say but uh really couldn't tell on the big screen you guys probably had a better Viewpoint of it so I'd say this is probably the worst game we going to play all year so if this is the best that they got I mean good luck in the postseason all right Damien Woody whether it's Johnny United Spar star Terry Brad saww Joe Montana your boy Tom Brady Patrick Mahomes this league has always been built about the quarterback taking his team down the field in the big spots winning championship winning Thursday night football games to begin the season give me your uh your total perspective on Lamar Jackson here he's bringing his team down the field a couple opportunities were there what did you see from Lamar yeah Lamar definitely had his cape on the night BCI he like list you know the Baltimore Ravens had three new starters on the offensive line they obviously had some difficulty trying to block up that can City front and Lamar Jackson was just a man amongst boys out there both passing and and rushing the football obviously there was a couple plays uh that that that got away from but Lamar Jackson was the offense he had about 400 yards of total offense just you know just him alone so you know this game is about a game of inches and clearly we saw that with the with that last player to Isaiah likeley but down the stretch two or three passes there at the end could have put them in the end zone what did you see from those plays yeah I think the one that really stood out was the one with Z flowers he was clearly wide open in the end zone I think if Z flowers had just uh just sat in that uh just sat in that open void uh in the end zone that would have been a clear touchdown uh for for the Baltimore Ravens but you know again it's week one these type of things you're still working out you know you're still working things out and um you know that was a missed Opportunity by the Baltimore Ravens right there so the Chiefs get it done and uh before we talk about the Chiefs Damian head coach Andy Reid really ped about to cool off here for a moment but plenty to get to find it very interesting according to our stats and info four losses on Lamar Jackson's career five of them have come to Mahomes and the Chiefs that's 21% of the total losses in this man's career have come against this team and the difference mere inches in this one I want to push back on something you said there because it was impressive what Lamar did tonight there's no other way to chop this up but did it look sustainable to you took a lot of licks a lot of it was off script a bit ad lib at times they look Talent deficient in some important spots here Ryan do you have any questions to be posed here of this Ravens team and if they could do this over a 20we sample size no that's a fair point because it doesn't feel sustainable we heard all broadcast how Lamar has has lightened the load there so to speak and and is in better shape and he certainly moved like it but uh also if you weigh 10 or 15 pounds less or whatever it happens to be that means you're going to be more susceptible to taking big hits from bigger guys than you and injury might soon follow so I I don't think it's sustainable and um the offensive line is going to be a real concern we heard about it coming into the preseason we saw it frequently tonight uh we can put aside for the moment the illegal formation penalties that the officials were dead set on calling what felt like every other series uh but they have a rotating turn St at right tackle they had they were switching guys there they had some concerns the interior offensive line with guys not named Tyler Linder bomb and they're going to have to figure that out and it may take two three four five six seven weeks who knows uh but I love what Lamar did today but I I don't think it's sustainable over the course of of the next three or four months 100 22 on the ground 16 totes the 14th time in his career he's gone for 100 plus in a game also passes Russell Wilson for the third most rushing yards by a quarterback and at this pace he will be at the top of that list by the end of this season Ravens bought on a little uh candy outside it was a free runner for worthy his second of the night the first came on the ground had not had a rushing touchdown as a longhorn and here Andy Reed finding new ways to use the talent that He has at his disposal Ryan touched upon it there but is it possible that we have not seen the fullest form of this Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty just yet was a great team that won it two years ago it was a good team that executed in big moments a year ago could this be the best Chiefs team we've seen throughout this stretch it could be and what we saw today was something we touched on at halftime was the secondary I was completely impressed with how these dudes manned up on the outside now a lot of this is matchup dependent yes they went against Baltimore really doesn't have a a Bonafide number one option on the perimeter but to go out there and force Lamar Jackson in the first half to what throw 5.8 yards in attempt you know just over 100 yards passing even though they threw the football 15 times so that was something that stood out to me and then the on the back end toward the back end of the game the secondary really stepped up big and crunch time and he was really strong inside the Red Zone all throughout the game so I I came away more impressed with the secondary we know they lost lerus KN that was the biggest question we had come again how would they replace him but man this team as a unit safeties and Corners played extremely well well said emry chamari Conor balled out Jaylen Watson who battled injuries in recent years balled out the former seventh round pick we know about Josh Williams the long physical cornerback out of fville state who looks apart and just he needed to play get more reps uh at this level he bowled out and they're I mean you have to feel pretty good as you note in a post Leger sne world to come out there and do what they did when these teams played back in January uh Steve magnola defensive coordinator for the Chiefs blitzed Lamar Jackson 45% of the time I it didn't look like they Bliss him quite that often in fact they only Rush four a lot just from my viewing of the the broadcast like the rest of us and they didn't even really spy Lamar that meant to me they felt pretty comfortable with what the back four were doing and we haven't even mentioned Trent McDuffy one of the best players in the NFL that's how impressive this young unit was and and again that's great news I remember talking to Andy Reid at the combine and that said does that allow you having SE spello dial those plays those young Playmakers to take more chances on offense because it does helps to have Patrick Mah makers we just talked about but a great first start for for spags in the young secondary there yeah spags has throughout the decades earned the respect of not just his players but also the referees got a timeout that he wasn't supposed to even get in this game the officiating had some Airs of week one as well we're giving out grades throughout this season we're going to grade some of the burning questions early on in the year question coming into this game was what would this Ravens rushing attack look like with the addition of Derrick Henry want you to grade out that rushing attack Lamar included but take into account Henry 13 totes for just 46 yards Lamar included is why I gave it a c because that helps it from being a fail and great Lamar going over 100 yards you expect that that's great for him that's the the ultimate X Factor what I don't like about how they utilize derck Henry and I hate this as a running back where you get predictable by formation and Personnel when they're in the shotgun and Derrik Henry is running side car a lot of times they're not giving him the football only when they were in pistol or under Center did you see Derk Henry get the football so they got to find a way to not get predictable by personnel and by formation because teams were able to tea off on uh the chiefs were able to tea off on Derrick Henry tonight because of that reason and the Ravens are usually able to run the football when they want to that wasn't the case tonight they couldn't run the football when they want to which tells me the chiefs were able to dominate the point of attack so passing grade but still going to need you to come in for office hours do a little talk get things sorted out Ryan I'm going to give you the task here of the passing game for the Chiefs the receivers we're wondering how they might gel it it looked good in this first iteration of what we've seen from the passing attack 291 from Mahomes what's the grade I gave him an A and and the only reason I didn't give him an A+ the the start built a little choppy again week one even though they did play a pretty good amount the starters did in preseason it's it's to be expected I gave an a because of the Patrick Mahomes interception uh at Midfield uh in the first half and then also Patrick Mahomes made a fantastic play to avoid another interception a great Triton Simpson batted ball later in the game in the second half uh otherwise it could have been much worse to grade but a because I feel really good about where we're going with these young receivers that we just talked about but there's still room for improvement and look I don't grade as hard as emry so I think the a feels much better than the C right now if you're the Ravens greting on a curve and we are all winners A's all around for our guys
