From Babson to PwC: A Day in the Life of Audit Associate Caroline Huynh '23 (Alumni)

Hey everyone, my name is Caroline. I'm an audit  associate at PwC. And I'm about to start my   day, so I thought I would take you through a  little day in my life. Kind of see what being   an audit associate is like, so let's go. I'll  usually get up around 6:20 and get ready for   the day. All right guys I'm about to take the  train into work. I usually take the Red Line  to South Station from the train station nearest  to my house and that's only like half an hour.   Then I hop on the Silver Line, so it's a super  streamlined process to get to work from my   house. So, let's go. So, I graduated from Babson in  May of 2023 and when I was there I concentrated   in Accounting. And I did an internship with  PwC which led into a full-time offer as an   audit associate in the health industry sector,  which I'll explain a little bit more about what   that means later, and I currently work out of  the Boston office as a hybrid employee. I'll   get to the office, take the elevator all the way  up to the health floor, and I'll get settled in.   I'll make a coffee and then I'll set all my  stuff in an office space cause I usually have   an early morning team meeting. But, this  is kind of what the office space looks like. My team has team huddles pretty much every  morning just to check in with everyone's tasks   and maybe any more tasks that need to get done  for the day. In my role we mainly serve Healthcare   clients, so think of like biotechs, hospitals,  research institutions. And we're looking at   their pieces of supporting documentation to  back up the numbers that they're presenting   in their financial statements, so it's really  cool cause you also do get to travel to client   sites and everything and kind of see a little bit  of the behind the scenes that you wouldn't as an   ordinary person. I started my role in October,  so I've been here for about 4 months. But one   thing I think of a lot is how Babson definitely  set me up for success my role, and the number one   thing that comes to mind is public speaking. We  get so many opportunities to do that at Babson   through presentations ranging from FME - just to any class, honestly. And I feel like I'm not   ever scared to present my ideas in a meeting or  speak up for myself, so I'm definitely glad I got   that experience at Babson. At Babson I was the VP of  Marketing for the Babson Accounting Club. I was an   FME Accounting Mentor. I was also a financial  accounting tutor. And I felt like there were   so many avenues for me to kind of demonstrate my  leadership and lead people that were interested in   accounting or needed help with accounting. And I  think that definitely set me apart as an applicant -   showing my passion for accounting and also my  passion for things outside of accounting. I   was also the VP of Women Who Lift. Shout out  Women Who Lift always. But there were so many   opportunities for me to build leadership skills  at Babson and I think that definitely allowed   me to excel in my role. I was also a member  of Chi Omega when I was at Babson and I got   to be Treasurer for a little bit which was really  great experience with accounting and finance.   And, not to mention Babson had amazing resources  for obtaining an internship or a job offer and   I mainly used the mock interviews that CCD did.  And it was really nice to kind of practice my   interview skills in real time, with a real person.  And, I would obviously be remiss if I didn't give   a shout out to the Accounting Department who is  so so supportive of any accounting endeavor you   might have. And, I feel like that support definitely  uplifted me to reach for my biggest of dreams when   it came to a career in accounting. And, I think  overall I'm so grateful that Babson was able to   give me a world of opportunity and experience and  I don't know if I would have gotten that anywhere else. After lunch I worked some more on tasks  that I was assigned for the day and look at   this view. It is absolutely stunning. It is  just so beautiful looking out the window   and seeing a beautiful waterfront or, you know,  some really nice buildings. I ended up logging   off around 6pm this day, and before I went  home I had to stop by the grocery store   of course. And, I love working in Seaport  because there are just so many things   to do or it's just super convenient to grab  groceries before going home. So, that is what I did. And, then I ended up taking  the train home to Quincy per usual. So, I just got in my car and I'm about  to head home and have dinner. But, I hope   today kind of encapsulated what it's like  to be an audit associate at PwC in the health   industry sector. I am still fairly new, so I'm  still learning the ropes and everything. But,   I hope today kind of gave you a good idea of  what it's like. If you have any questions   feel free to reach out, learn about  anything it is that you want to learn about   me, I am more than happy to help. But, thank you for  watching this and I hope you have a great rest of your day.
