[Applause] started he'll bring it back from inside as five now nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 so the Army Black Knights offense will take the first swing of the game and when you have a quarterback like this guy the entire offense feeds off of him David oh everybody feeds off of his energy and the whole playbooks open because you can trust on him he's Dependable Palmer he's also one of those guys if he gets in a good Rhythm watch out this dude starts firing strikes and the running back didn't get much there nice job by the defense you can tell they're focused in on this running back on this run game being physical getting knockbacks and living his carries picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down finds his way ahead for three out to the 27 yd line you know I know that wasn't a big Gainer but that's going to set some stuff up later for this offense trying to run the football and get it established is huge because playaction pass is a big part of what they try to do when they're throwing the ball third down and they'll need five to keep this opening drive moving looking to throw it's Dy fires to the wide out he's got an open man and the explosiveness the big Gainer gets it to the 49 yd line wow and what a great job by that quarterback finding his open receiver on third down you know guys one of the most telling stats at the end of the game game is third down conversion percentage if you're a great third down team it's invaluable to your offensive success and that's why teams drill third down so much in practice that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there let's see what they've got on second down give to the single back and he's able to bounce off one tackle but still not a whole lot of Running Room how bold will they be on third down after that last run he'll ride his man on the option and the defense knew exactly where that first down line was and they stopped him short you know I really like this QB running the football because I know he's got a lot of speed but he's not the biggest guy in the world so he's not going to be able to break a lot of tackles you really got to do a good job of trying to scheme ways to get him out in more space on fourth down looking to pass makes the grab well past the sticks he steps out of bounds but he's got a first down on the play sometimes we don't give enough credit to a receiver knowing exactly where he needs to be on the field and they pick up the first down there yeah and you got to give the receiver credit obviously knowing where that is but the defender needs to know where it is too where is he trying to get that Ball's going to come out quick he didn't really understand where the sticks were and because of that he gives up the first down need to just be a little bit more more aware as a defensive guy and it's incomplete but there's a flag in the back field let's see who the calls [Applause] on just an obvious holding call there and one that just kills an offense's momentum on the option they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one the defense really gets it they understand what's going on the quarterback is a threat to run the football I have to understand that it changes the way I play defense am I going to have more speed on the field whatever I do I got to make sure I do what they did right there focus in on the QB lock in and make sure he doesn't beat me here comes the option and they'll wrestle him to the ground after a short gain ninth play of the drive coming up but they'll have to convert third and long to keep it going looking to throw and he needs a chunk play that's reeled in it's Robinson and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out and the Black Knights will try to pin them back with the punt first punt of the day and he love to lock them up close to their goal line how about this it's out of bounds inside the 10 and they're going to mark it right around the 5 yd line what a great job there so Florida Atlantic's offense will go to work for the first time as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team and generally games go how these guys play if they make play and they've got a shot to win this one no doubt they got to show up the these are the team leaders these guys have to play well if they're going to win the football [Applause] game after the good pickup on first down let's see if they keep it on the ground touch pass on the Jet Sweep the owls have enough for the first down and and just went with something very easy very reliable Flip It Forward let your receiver do the rest I only got to get a few yards nice job nice execution first down as they get set to snap it just about to reach the end of the quarter from the shotgun now here's an inside give that's the kind of play that can really get you going as they get it out to the 36 it's been a defensive to battle through the first period and the stats tell that tale back at it to open the quarter with this first down [Applause] play going to run it it's Moy able to scr three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven I like feeding my guy I like getting my running back touches feeding the ball so can break some of those big runs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced got three on first down it's second and [Applause] seven grab behind the line it's Tucker they make the stop but the sweet throw and catches plenty to give him a first down and I think this receiver's Forte is his route running he's a guy that can line up all over the field but it's not just catching post routes and goes this guy can run shallows he can run Slants he can run the option routes and find soft spots in the defense this guy really has all the routes in his toolbox hand off from the shotgun a solid pick up there before the defense is able to make the stop it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down after the productive first down play it's second and [Applause] six quarterback Quick Pass to the receiver they'll get him stopped at the 34 he's got 10 yards on that one and a first down yeah and way to be creative way to get the ball in the perimeter really quickly get some speed outside all you got to do is secure that edge and you're just trying to get that first down nice job nice play call by the offense Florida Atlantic goes to work with a fresh set of downs the give and he'll pick up one it brings up second and nine and you want to run the football that's okay you'll take some of these but if they start to add up down the road obviously you might want to think about airing it out a little bit didn't get much on first down it's second and nine dropping back it's fer just a short pass to the tight end nice pitch and catch there and they'll have enough for the first down ever since they invented the forward pass the tight ends have been running the drag and getting the first down I I think it's because the tight ends just so much versatility you know they can block and stay in the formation or they can release and come out but either way if the quarterback's patient most of the time that drag route's going to come open quarterback touch pass on the Jet Sweep good pickup on that play it'll bring up second and four man the defense you hold your breath when this receiver has the football out in space you have got to make sure you're playing with outstanding Pursuit nice job there but as this game goes on they've got to keep an eye on this guy and make sure they know where he is at all times going to work in the red zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone he's looking for a man on second down and that pass intercepted he'll try to take it back he's at the 40 the 20 inside the 10 touchdown Army what a great play by the defense and paying it off with the interception return what an incredible individual effort by that big fella there and daveid you know it's funny I've been hearing more and more about how these D linemen are the best athletes on the field what do you think I present to you exhibit a look at the big fell not only does he make the catch okay so I can be a DB I can be a wide receiver I can catch it I got the ball in my hands guess what else I am I'm a running back I take that thing all the way back to the house exhibit a the best athletes on the football field they'll try to attack one more on their score [Applause] and he's got the extra point and it's seven nothing to start this [Applause] one they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Ford Atlantic has the ball back and the offense will try to put together a drive back to throw it's fer they're working that left side and he runs through one tackle and picks up a few and that's the looking man coverage you can throw the hitch route against right when the receiver's got a little bit of access so he's got some room to work with against press you're risking a pick six so good decision there by the Q knowing that was a good look to throw into Quick Tempo no huddle off and second down clock's running he's looking to throw catch in the middle it's Johnson stopped at the 42 but he got 15 yds on the play a timeout is called as this offense tries to find a way to get more points on the board before the half he'll come out throwing on first down got away from trouble and got rid of it makes the grab it's Moy tackled immediately after the catch you know sometimes even a short gain like that can be used to set up something bigger later on no doubt Reese they can pump that and take a shot down the field and don't worry they're going to go back to that same play cuz they know this guy with the ball in his hands is dangerous he makes one guy Miss he can take it to the house on second down wants to throw quarterback doing what he does best he can move there's a Timeout on on the field tight game here late in the first half well great job there by the defense because they weren't able to get him sacked right away but you saw the coverage in the back end nowhere for the quarterback to throw the football didn't get the sack obviously you don't get the negative play but you also don't give up a big one you're feeling pretty good about where you are right now in this drive they convert on third down as he gets it to the 46 yd line David that is a great security blanket for a quarterback to have a tied end to make those conversions dang right find the big fella on Third and short Dependable clutch nice hands first down it's a first down they'll stop the clock to reset the chains offense Up Tempo he tosses one high and deep down the left side there's a lot of QBs that when they get hit and when they get hurried and when they get pressured they become very average really nice job by the defense pressuring the quarterback couldn't get anything done on first down now second and 10 from the 46 wants to throw it's fer they're trying to get to him offense calls a timeout here critically important to make sure they have the right play called and everyone on the same page here time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half they'll give it to the back and the defense makes the tackle and that ought to do it here in in the first half that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with the halftime update fellas One thing we can always count on is a great atmosphere in West Point and I get it a lot of coaches will say the difference between winning and losing comes down to stopping big plays and getting big plays but if you ask me it's more about how good you are on third down and how efficient you are in keeping drives alive those two stats can help you break the will of even the best defenses and help you come out on top with that said let's send it back to the guys at Blake field inside Mikey Stadium the Black Knights will try to kick this one deep to get things underway in the second [Applause] half here he comes from inside his own five not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the Florida Atlantic offense will return to the field maybe adjustments or attitude or attitude adjustments but they've got to find a way to run the ball at least some and he breaks into the open and the tackle is made but not before that completion gets him 30 plus well how about the offense setting that play up we've seen earlier in the game a couple shorter throws they're just trying to suck those safeties closer to the line of scrimmage anticipating that they would get an opportunity to take a shot they called the perfect play at the perfect time right there to the air on first down makes the catch it's Johnson good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch I'll tell you what that's great execution between the QB and receiver they look like they could execute that throw in their sleep quarterback took a steps threw it on time great route by the receiver nice job securing the catch and the owls in the hurry [Applause] up they'll throw it on first down pockets starts to collapse and it's incomplete it was wild high and wide on that one another incompletion and I've said that a lot and these teams are just struggling I mean the offense just doesn't know what to do nothing's working ground game Throw game it's kind of been a rock fight on both sides after the misfire it's second and 10 give to the back they could have used a little bit more there and pick up of three it's third and seven and sticking to the run I tell you what a lot of teams that are really good are really stubborn and they continue to run the football even with little success so this offense is going to continue to focus on running the football you can tell they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here they go to the draw moving deeper into enemy territory move the chains it's first down at the 27 and I don't care if I get it by two by 20 by 30 by 40 I I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I get to that stick get to the first down [Applause] marker Ed the play fake now to throw looking to scramble on the run and he'll slide to avoid the hit a Nifty pick up there these are the plays that don't show up in the stat books right like a great job look at him he does an awesome job instead of taking the sack clearly wanted to throw the football scrambles around gets some positive yards it doesn't go down as a huge gain but these are the plays that get you W's a lot of urgency for this offense looking to throw it's fer finds the tight end and good coverage by the defense just a short gain I like the idea by the quarterback there you're trying to get this first down so you find the tight end see if he can make a guy miss or shake a tackle not able to get it done though a manageable distance on third down as they try to convert from the 20 from the gun wants to pass he'll throw it got the Quick Pass they make the tackle but he's got a fresh set of downs and it's first and goal from the seven and that's a really good example of a quarterback and his intended target both being on the same page the timing was almost perfect on that play that's why they were able to convert the third down now setting up first and goal Florida Atlantic comes to the line on first and goal caught in the back field it's Moore and he was fortunate not to lose yardage on that play able to wedge it back to the line of scrimmage well they're able to find the tight end for an easy completion but good job tackling not allowing him to get the first down defense rose up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming they'll run it up the middle here looking for a path to the end zone he pushes his way down to the four as they get closer and closer all right so now you're in this third down situation close to the goal line and it just feels David like they're going to have to throw the football in order to score a touchdown here I like maybe trying to get the quarterback outside on the perimeter and give him a run pass option I like that too getting the quarterback on the move and here's the thing if I get close and I get stopped it's Fourth Down fourth down means go for it that's all that means now today in college football they stop him short as he was trying to scramble and find his way to the goal line and he does everything he can tries to scramble tries to make something happen nice job by the defense getting him to the ground down by more than a field goal interesting decision here on Fourth and goal it's fourth down and they'll try the field goal and this will be a short went from about 21 yds out good right down the boulevard [Applause] so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away on the run from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 first down for this offense gives it to the back on the draw he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three guys it is Army who carries the lead into the quarter break three quarters are in the books time becomes a factor both in trying to hold the lead or cut into it as we take a look at the steps not only is the scoreboard on their side but so too is time as we open the fourth the back goes in motion he'll knock him down after a pickup of one to the 18 and this is a pressing time for this defense they they've got to understand they're backed up a little bit they're going to run the football they don't want to make a mistake so I think this is the time I'm a little bit more aggressive I I got to get this football back to my offense because I'm trailing so I look for this defense to get a little bit aggressive to the air it's it's Dy fires to the tight end and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down he just didn't have a chance to get loose and make his way to that first down marker I think fans get upset sometimes like run your route past the sticks so we get the first down but nice job by the defense understanding where the sticks were and forcing the fourth down fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way might have thought he'd want to try to pick up a few yards there but he's content with making the fair catch right around the 35 yd line moving the running back forcing the defense to adjust fires left wide open downfield oh look out touchdown owls and with that they move out front here in the fourth and that is phenomenal quarterbacking understanding right away dude you're going to bring pressure I'm getting the ball to my playmaker right now let him do the rest let him glide into the end zone make make me look really good good timing good decision by the quarterback getting it out quick [Applause] needs this one to push the lead to a field goal and it's good and he pushes the lead to three that's the kind of Drive everybody loves OC see quarterback One Snap put it in the end zone almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll start the return inside his five just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 the cadets have it back as Army he goes back on offense the sledding has been tough scores have been at a premium Jesse in every possession seems like it could switch the momentum of the game yeah ree for this offense just feels like they just haven't been as physical and for this offensive coordinator David he's having to go deep into the Playbook just to try to generate a first down well the good thing is there's not a ton of game pressure cuz the other side's not scoring either but if you can find that one thing that get that one positive play and then maybe you get those juices going and something can start to build quick handoff Works ahead for a couple they'll stop him at the 27 third down conversions always a huge stat and they've got a third and long from the 27 to throw it's Dy getting some heat quarterback on the Move still looking Nifty little Scamper on this one enough for the first down and he slides in safely it's the fourth quarter every second counts right you're it's a onep possession game we're chasing the QB he scrambles around does such a great job getting positive yards keeping this drive alive we need to score badly we got to keep drives alive like this wonderful job looking to go up top on first down makes the grab he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down man you see so many smart wide receivers so many smart tight ends nowadays that they know where the holes in those zones are and they work with their quarterback and they find them and they sit down in them and make big plays it's tough to sit back in zone against such smart players [Applause] nowadays on the option and how about the work up front by that big defensive line we have reached a two-minute warning and time is of the essence if this offense is going to make a play so can the defense get one more stop one more time and hold onto this lead wants to throw on third grab behind the line it's Robinson well they try to spit it out to the running back on the perimeter of the field you saw the speed and recognition by the defense though how quickly they were able to get to the back and get him down for a big loss down a possession here in the fourth and they'll need to convert on this fourth down desperate to convert and he'll throw it quickly to the tight end how about that defense rising up and stopping him short on fourth down offense set on first down they'll run it to keep this clock grinding and a nice solid pick up there before the defense wrestles him to the ground defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense they're in control the clock is their friend you'd have to expect another run here on second and six r really nice stop there from this senior leader timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible now on third down for this [Applause] offense to the ground to try to move the chains third down conversions are huge and they've got one and they're at the 35 quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense Ford Atlantic going back to work after moving the chains quarterback's just going to take a [Applause] knee for [Applause]
