intro [Music] and welcome in everybody glad you're with us inter league baseball on MLB The Show it's the Detroit Tigers and the San Diego Padre's along with my partner Chris Singleton I'm John shamby and we got a rubber match on our hands today partner yeah the final game of a three- game set they've split the first two and regardless of how important a series is within the larger picture of the season it's a game you want to get up for every series win feels good so we should see a 1st Inning fun match up in this one all right we'll be back to get this one started after this so almost ready to get underway and on the bound now Joe musgrow but Chris he hasn't exactly been Stellar here on his home M well I'll say this every player wants to perform well at their home ball park in front of their fans in front of the city and you know this guy no different he wants to be more effective so you you look at the numbers they haven't been great at home I'm sure he wants to turn that around and we'll see if he's able to start that in this one a Kil bedo leading things off and takes a [Applause] strike the 01 that one lifted to left profar has a beat on it nabs it and there's one down let's take a check of the Tigers lineup and a big factor for them in recent games Mark knna well these days we know teams you know they put a game plan together for every hitter in a lineup but a guy like this they Circle him make sure he doesn't beat you uh so you know they put in a little extra time and effort and on how they're going to approach him he can be a huge difference maker when he's hot so it's going to be fun to see how they try to work in right here beerling in the box now no balls in a strike Musgrove a former Allstar he features a four-seam fast ball a curb a cutter a slider he's pitching bad all the time there are times where he's pitched well but he hasn't had the defense behind him he hasn't had the Run support So ultimately no one wants to look up and see 15 and L on their line but that's where it is right now he's just got to come out today and try to get a w the line in the pitch Hass Kim stands in now and watches strike [Music] one swinging a Miss oh and two that front door slider such a devastating pitch you don't want to get beat by the inside fast ball so you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there it's out of the Swing plan the punch out there one up on down clearly looking out over the plate on that outer third and that pitch finished down the middle just a little bit in and he could pull the trigger it's sander Bogarts now and to the home first two away as we take a look at the Padre's lineup one guy swinging a hot bat recently to Capo Marano well he's an important part of this lineup for sure I mean there's no doubt about it Bo it's somebody that they try to feed off of he does a lot of things you know very well up there at the plate he's got a presence about him and you know he's a guy that you really kind of like to watch swing the bat [Applause] foul ball [Applause] [Music] there late with the swing there man he was really Tardy on that fast ball great job of setting him up by throwing the curveball add some velocity to it on the next pitch can't catch up and there's a ball [Applause] the pitch to the air right field settles under this one makes the grab and that'll end the inning scoreless after [Music] one all set for the start of the inning and now the right fielder Carri Carpenter Chris has been a good year for him having already set a new career high for RB in a season Musgrove back to work and a curb is down and [Music] [Applause] in there's a strike Larry Bullard our umpire behind the plate Bo bullard's got a pretty standard Strike Zone sometimes they'll have you guessing a little bit but overall well respected umpire in the [Applause] league and that one a little little below the knees and it's two and [Applause] one comes up empty that strike two wow 2nd Inning good luck catching up to that one here's the two two and another ball [Applause] hard hit right side tosses to first lead off man retired here in the [Applause] second so up next Colt Heath I'm liking what I've seen from him at the dish lately can make it a five-game hitting streak with a knock in this one swing and a ball driven pretty well out towards left Center makes the grab and there's twoone well those can be pretty fun as an outfielder got to put it into His Highest gear and go a long way to track that one down nothing better than that you feel like a wide receiver playing [Applause] football and first off ring is fouled off second inning here no [Applause] score that one the other way and there's a hit Joey gets on base and keeps it going didn't exactly square that one up but sometimes you don't have to totally tied up with that inside pitch got to it late and deep in the zone but he got the bat on plane enough to fight it off the other way here's the catcher Jake Rogers here's a hitter who's been strong in the clutch L more than an RBI per game over his last [Applause] [Applause] 10 and strike two oh two Feld two swings here and blast one left field and it's a one hopper Off the Wall should be extra bases around third the relay throw safe puts a run on the board and picks up an RDI solid swing from start to end long time of everything really good balance nice extension and he made championship type of ball Club you've got to hit with runners in scoring position and after last night's struggles I'm sure these guys were chomping at the bit to have this kind of opportunity here makes the catch and that is that Tigers grab one on this RBI double it's now one nothing it's major league baseball and it's on the show and welcome back to the ballpark bottom of the inning Fernando away now here's Jake Cronin no RBI spot but Chris this a guy that is not really swinging the bat all that well here in this situation you have a real good opportunity to get swings and misses and record a strike out I think you attack him in this spot I think ultimately you want to tie him up get the ball in on the plate so that he can't get the barrel to it and hit it to the [Applause] Outfield now he drive that's a b h runner from third into score we're tied at one gets it done to drive in the run and tie it back up anytime you rip a line 3rd Inning drive the other way you feel really good about what you did at the you trusted your hands you let the ball travel and you took the bar straight to it that's great work right there one down to AO Marcano the next up for the Padres first offering misses badley for ball [Applause] one and a pitch in there at the knees and the count one and one that fast ball at the bottom of the Zone can be very effective just got to keep it on off the middle that's a base hit cronenworth the round second headed for third safe he made it a perfect example right there that plate discipline pays off deeper he gets into a count the more comfortable he becomes and he usually wins the [Music] battle now batting jerks in profar possibly thinking about home run number 100 here he's just one shy of that Milestone swing and a miss strike one the last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground but I wouldn't expect many pitches up in the zone they'll be pitching for a double play in this spot and the right-hander deals Hey Big Pitch right here he's going to try to make a pitch it's going to produce a strike out or a ground ball double [Applause] play two on one out Che his swing now it appeal to third no swing just held it all right now he may have not liked either of those first two pitches or agreed with the umpire's calls but at this point he's going to have to bear down and be ready to hit anything close to the Zone got him swinging huge strike out there certainly a strikeout situation right there the infield playing back and this pitcher has to step off and get the swing and Miss really nice job of attacking the zone but not too far don't want to chase that breaking ball in the dirt next offering is down low the count now two and two two outs and a swing and a miss that ends the inning and stops things from getting out of hand sometimes he wears the emotion on the sleeve but that's okay as long as he's getting results and right there thrilled with the punch out to get out of a [Applause] [Music] jam back school in Florida here comes the 01 that one to first and that's just foul the wi to the pitch and a curve misses outside well that's kind of what you expect in an 02 count excellent job of the hitter to have the plate discipline to lay off of that pitch the onew bounce to third sends it to First bayz gone in the play up back to the top of the Detroit order and next up for the Tigers Akil Badu swings through that one for strike one in his fourth year 25 years old and he was a second round pick back in 2016 next off bring is in for a strike tied up here in the early going right side absolutely move and it is a factor in his game swing and a Fly ball in the air out towards right center field azocar pulls it down and he makes the catch and that is that after two and A2 it remains a 1-1 ball game and we're back and here comes sander Bogarts the second s b and here it comes shoots a Drive single into Right Center so Runner a board to start the inning hitting is really easy for some guys one thing that I can see already his Bat stays in the Zone on playe for an extended period of time guys like that they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane and even when you don't get it great it's still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder fall off foul 4th Inning [Applause] just [Applause] missed and that's outside two and one the count now he hasn't seen a fast ball yet but you've got to be ready to hit one because you doubt the pitcher wants this to go to a 3-1 count R takes off in the air right field reaching for it makes the catch wow that was clutch huge situation and an incredibly tough play I thought it was going to drop for sure but he makes what might be the play of the game that Park and now the center fielder Riley greeny green as he turns on the Rubber and with that good live armed deliverers right through there for a strike I got to call nlds game four here in 2022 at Peto Park where the Padres knocked out their Rivals the LA Dodgers the place was just nuts the entire game terrific fan support and a ground ball to first he steps on the bag and a quick out number one the sudden pitch comes out of nowhere and it's a good change up it's just almost impossible to hit it when you haven't seen it and next to hit for Detroit Colt Keat 0 for one with a fly out to Center first pitch and that's in for a strike oh he's looking great so far it helps with over 80% of your first pitches or strikes he might be able to go the distance if he keeps this up and the pitch well these tigers as this game goes on have to be more disciplined at the play faing pitches has been a big part of the story we've seen it quite a bit today it's been tough for him to make contact at times and it just doesn't look like they're seeing it very well as a group on the ground right side Bogart's with the throw to first and the lead offense set down in their half of the fifth and on the mound you know confidence has to be pretty high with all of the swings misses he's had him eaten out of the palm of his hand pretty much all game [Applause] Fly ball down the line and that's a foul player watching 53 double plays brings back some it's such an exciting play and it's always a great reminder of baseball being such a team sport and up next for Detroit Jake Rogers that's in there been tough for the offense so far but you can't get frustrated you got to find a way to Shake it Off go up there and relax that's the only way you're going to be able to put runs up on the board next pitch misses way [Applause] outside that one fouled off the healthy cut tough pitch at 98 but a really good pass at the [Applause] ball at the belt and fires bounced up the middle into the Outfield now these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here try to close that Gap but you know at the very least if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first it feels like it's really important of getting back into this ball game a little out front there as he swings through it the two strikes may see some movement over there at first base trying to stay out of the double play right here strike three got him fing on the chj a big strike out right there and maybe a little controversial with the call I think he got a little bit of favor on the mound don't question about it it's not exactly what you want to see in a big spot like that and I'm sure there's some chirping going on from The Dugout making it clear that wasn't his best call behind the pl today now the up next third now Machado up here he's already hard in this game singing you can't ask for anything more this guy checks all the boxes offensively he is the ultimate professional and it doesn't just start at game time it starts in the afternoon the way he prepares and gets ready for the ball game I tell you what his teammates feed off of the leadership that he shows on and off the field and the position no outs and the batter now Jose azukar the pitch right through there for a strike and I know you want to be patient as a hitter but you got to be ready to jump on the first thing straight and
