intro hello and welcome thanks for joining us inter league baseball on MLB The Show it's the Texas Rangers and the Arizona [Music] [Applause] Diamondbacks first pitch coming at you right after the break so just about set now and on the mound here today Zack Gallen but Chris he 1st Inning hasn't exactly been Stellar here on his home now well I'll say this every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans in front of the city and you know this guy no different he wants to be more effective here so you you look at the numbers they haven't been great at all I'm sure he wants to turn that around and we'll see if he's able to start that in this one ready to go now and now here's a speed threat outfielder leot tarz the wine of the [Music] pitch and a rope into center field base hit so a man on base to start the inning here's Nathaniel low possibly thinking about home run number 100 here he's just one shy of that milestone in the air right center this is mashed way back and G a gigantic blast that's a special one 100 career homers and just like that they're out front it's two nothing with this pitcher's velocity a change up is really a break for a hitter he got a BP fast ball didn't move a whole lot and he absolutely tattooed it Seager stands in now Homer last night added another hit as well F back ourway and that's out of play part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning they're definitely looking to do some more damage nobody out with a pair of runs across in the frame here in the second and final game of the series and there's a foul [Applause] ball and that's in the dirt two [Applause] strike up and in ball two [Applause] the pitch and that's a base [Applause] hit everything came together for him pretty good spot hard and inside but that's a perfect example of keeping your hands inside the ball tight to the body the ability to take that back up the middle shows his approach is to use the entire field adolis Garcia stands in now and watches strike one one of the things amazing with Zach think about the players he's been traded with and for in December of 17 he and Sandy alcatra were dealt to Miami from the Cardinals for Marcel Ozuna then ultimately in July of 19 he went to Arizona for jazz Chisum two runs across in the inning and we're just getting started here in the top of the first [Applause] down one away he came out of his mechanics there typically likes to shoot the ball the other way but that time a little anxious now it's Marcus Simeon lot of clutch hitting from him recently runner on the go swing in a miss low throw and he can't take it [Applause] out Seager the runner at second with one [Applause] away oh two now good job to fight that one [Applause] off Pitch misses now one and two man it's second center field mcarthy trying to get there makes the catch for the out and there's two down that and now we take a look at the Rangers lineup and one of the most exciting young stars in the sport Leoni tares well boo you know I love guys that can run and this guy has great speed we'll see in this game if he gets a chance to use it and if he does I think even you are going to be really impressed because he can really impact the game with his wheels and you like guys that can score he's definitely able to do that Josh Young in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called [Applause] strike he's given up a couple of runs but the pitch count really not as high as you would think might be able to get through this one under 25 pitches [Applause] [Music] the 02 and down on strikes inning over and it could have been worse Texas plates two on the Homer and it's two zip it's major league BAS on the [Music] show man I'm on my just me I'm say she ride W oh yeah on back here with my pal singi and on the hill Nathan evaldi and a guy like this is going to keep you in the ball game he's going to go out there compete not going to see a whole lot of flare and Flash but he's going to hand it over to at some point and if you've been able to score a few runs you'll be in it late so we'll see if he's able to do that for his in this one catel Marte up to the plate first pitch misses well after putting up a nice Inning on offense got some runs across this is where you look for the starter to go out there have a shutdown inning don't give that other team any hope uh you just hope that he can get through this inning get the bats back up there while they're hot ripped to Short gathered in by Seager throw to first one gone bottom half of first time to take a 2nd Inning look at the Diamondbacks lineup a really frustrating showing for them in their last game lots of traffic on the bases but they left a ton of Runners on base couldn't cash in their chances Chris they had plenty of chances there's nobody to blame it on but themselves offensively they just did a poor job converting in those situations you have to figure out what's your plan going to be maybe watch some tape from the last game make the adjustments so if you get those opportunities in this one you've got a much better chance of scoring some runs one out bases [Applause] empty offering in there for a strike o and two that one missed I don't like to say he wasted a pitch I think that was a purpose pitch change the eyee level have him look up now go back exactly where you want to go and another ball stri down to the dirt swinging a Miss up with it fires to First in time for the second out good job to clean it up after the drop third strike just ran out of patience there he took a couple of pitches to even that count up at two balls and two strikes but that time chased outside the zone I'm I'm in SC is shet up to the dish that's in there that's strike one two down no on the short stop takes the ball [Applause] swing and a ground ball out to short seagar fires over to First and bichette is retired out number three nothing doing for Arizona and they're down two [Applause] nothing go and welcome back to the ballark now the left fielder Ezekiel Duran eel Duran gallon back to work a little out front there as he swings through it see he wasn't very sharp in the first got hit around a little bit just wasn't able to locate particularly well a lot of stuff for the fat part of the plate yeah boo he wasn't fooling anyone it's a tough place to be cuz it's not always obvious what adjustments need to be made sometimes it's location sometimes being too predictable sometimes you're tipping your pitches he's going to need to figure it out quickly though the one one swing and a miss looked off balance that time tie a guy up like that you're feeling like you are in [Applause] command the wi of the pitch Who's down looking [Music] Jared Walsh the next to hit Jared Walsh now this is in the air down the line and a foul ball left hand batter weights that's down an in two strike hit on the ground to the right side Marte throws the first two up two down yeah I'm looking at his body language and he just doesn't seem like things are in sync and the ball's just not coming off his bath the way it did earlier in the regular season two outs Bas is empty up next for the Rangers Jonah Heim this is a guy who is very highly regarded defensively fun to watch him control stuff behind the plate Good Game caller good at framing but it's that big arm that really stands out you come into the game knowing that unless the ball's in the dirt or gets by him we're probably not going to steal anything today so that's where you want to get a little more aggressive on your secondary lead and hope that some base hits some long some home runs can come into [Applause] [Applause] play next offering upstairs well I'll say this as a former position player and base stealer when you come into a game and you've got a guy like this behind the dish with a big arm you really have to change your approach can't try to steal cuz you'll get thrown out maybe get a little bigger lead be aggressive on the secondary but this type of guy shuts the running game down highfly ball out to left field guel sizes this one up and makes the grab and that'll do [Applause] [Music] it bottom half of inning number two this is Corbin Carroll here's a fun fact of Corbin and I don't know if everyone remembers their first jersey but Carol certainly does he used to rock an Ichiro Suzuki growing [Applause] up the wine and the pitch sh missed when you get ahead in the count there's no doubt that the success rate goes up and that's what 3rd Inning he's been doing it's made a big impact for him in recent games [Applause] and that skips Senator on the ground Seager fires over to First and quickly one away in the [Music] second Walker and now it's Christian Walker the 01 and a foul ball one down base is empty fights it off you'll see [Applause] another that one 95 to finish him [Applause] off and it's lordis Gorel Jr chase that [Applause] time two outs high in the air out to R nabs it and that is that after two it's a two nothing ball game back here at Chase Field here's leot Taris Taris measures 6' 2 in 25 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic and first offering is fouled off the pitch he [Applause] two foul ball it stays nothing in two the pitch and down B strikes he goes and one away at the top of the third well they clearly didn't recognize that curveball out of the hand and tried to check the swing just went around too far and you're hoping the Umpire maybe missed it and they bail you [Music] [Applause] out low takes a ball as he stands in for the second time no strike [Applause] the onew wober to right field way back gone a massive home run his second home run of the game it's three nothing he absolutely crushed that one no doubt about that one boo we knew it wasn't coming back when you're working with this kind of velocity so critical that you move the ball around work quickly and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance clearly not fooled by the location or the velocity he was all over that fast ball one down Cory Seager now at the plate ball one there you know Cory Seager would have been named the American League MVP in 2023 if it wasn't for some guy named sh Otani it's tough to outshine a two-way player but Seager did his best by putting together a full season with impressive numbers and another ball Seager may not have won the regular season MVP award in 2023 but he was named World Series MVP for the second time in his career hitting a home run for the Rangers in Games 1 three and four that's in there strike [Applause] one and downstairs [Applause] one down base is empty and it's fou [Applause] away back to work 3-2 now ball four and Seager has taken his base Bo do you think you could draw Walk In The Bigs if you gave you enough at G oh that's a good question um I think that if they gave the pitch a false scouting report on me yes I think I could draw a [Music] one Garcia now at the plate as he swings through strike one good pitch right there anytime you can get one by a bat of this caliber especially with Runners on it's got to give you some confidence out there on the mound that you can win this battle righty delivers run around the move the one- one is fouled off Seager over at first with one away swing and a miss struck him out to gone well that's the money maker right there two strikes sliding down and away from the same side thrower as the hitter I mean that's just tough you're looking to protect with two strikes and very difficult to lay off [Applause] that one fouled [Applause] off two outs that's ripped face [Applause] hit throw stops the lead runner at second two on and two out thir so two on with two away next up for Texas Josh Young struck out swinging his first time swinging to miss though Chris through the early stages he hasn't been very efficient in terms of the pitch count he's going to need to get some quick outs if he's going to get deeper into this game [Applause] two on two outs it is interesting though when you consider the way the game has run now doesn't even matter that much if your starter doesn't go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bull fense pit hard should be extra bases and that rolls into the corner one run across the relay throw not in time he's safe it's 5 nothing gets the job done as he brings home a just a solid swing right there caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit those always feel 4th Inning [Music] great here comes the skipper and we're going to see a pitching change in this spot Zach Gallen departs and this is one he'd like to forget back with a new arm after this now on the mound for the Diamondbacks Dre Jameson and with the big deficit on the scoreboard he almost has to just put that out of his mind every outing matters for relievers in their numbers but I think it's tough to get up for this type of appearance the same way you would for one in a close game man at second here with two away so next to hit for Texas Ezekiel Duran check swing no appeal runner at second two [Applause] [Music] now righty to the plate late that time and it's strike two activity in the Arizona bullpen Bryce Jarvis getting loose out [Applause] [Music] [Applause] there close but call the ball two and [Applause] two and another ball [Applause] and he swings and lifts one to deep center field McCarthy going back on this one it bangs off the wall one run is in Duran makes the turn at second he's not stopping on his way home there's the tag they get him and that's the inning so it's four runs for him four hits no errors and nobody left on we head now to the home half of inning number three it's the Rangers six and the Diamond Backs nothing back here in the desert as we go to the last of the third now here is Randle gritch and that one Clips the corner clearly down in this ball game and you can't look at the deficit and try to get it all back in one swing it's got to come one one it bad at a time and even shrink it down smaller pitch to pitch make that guy on the mound work to get you out and the o02 caught him looking for the K well definitely a borderline pitch right there and he didn't look too convinced as he headed back to the dugout know those are tough ones to let go as a hitter but with the human umpire calling balls in strikes it's always going to be on you to protect yourself with two strikes aeno Suarez up to the plate now pitch misses outside and that's ball one and fires oh that's low I can't play around with him here it's a six-run lead at this point got to attack hitters even if you give up a solo shot now three [Applause] and0 and there's ball for definitely lost the handle during that sequence four pitches for the walk and that last one didn't even threaten The Zone catcher might want to go talk to and at first now it's Ronaldo Hernandez [Music] [Applause] swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play and the right-hander deals that's to third it's through for a hit quick throw back in lead Runner holds it second with one gone he needed that one it's been a tough stretch to turned on it nicely definitely a little out in front of the pitch but he didn't hook around it too much and was able to keep it fair down the line could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game an outstanding hitter in catel Marte first pitch and he just [Applause] misses just missed good spot for the hitter definitely has the advantage in this count with Runners on look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch the Dbacks with a lot of ground to make up here in the last half of the third and that's in the dir [Applause] no that one's in there three and one the pitch he swings and fouls one [Applause] off hit high in the air There He Go the C he made him pay for that one his 19th home run of the year it's 63 he ran the count full and saved his best swing for last that was a battle and he won I'm rning now move cuz I'm about to go I'm running over you I promise outow hold on hold on yeah well he really flushed that thing down the line and everyone had to hold breath until blanked off the ball and every time that happens it just kind of feels like a trick shot or something but really it's just a stroke of luck that it stays Fair long enough now Jake McCarthy that's in there strike one and a pitch ripped on a line Taris right there to make the grab two away now man that's one of those ADV bats where you have to remind yourself it's about the process he did everything right right there nothing to show for it but in your mind you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at B bichette the next to hit takes outside long drive B here Joey gets on base and keeps it going he's been swinging in really well pitch was in and off the plate so hard 5th Inning to do anything with the pitch in that location but somehow we got the barel to it and hit it well pretty amazing and now it's going to be Corbin Carrol that one off the Mark and it's w to know bashet the runner at first with two gone bounce to the right tosses to First that ends the inning Diamondbacks draw a bit closer thanks to this home run and they've doubled up now it's 63 watching Major League Baseball on the [Music] show and welcome back to the ballpark as we go to the top of the fourth and now Jared Walsh the pitch now one inside and that is ball one well these Rangers really impressing me with the quality of their bats in this one it's been fun getting a chance to see him go to work they were obviously able to run the starter out of the game in the third so they've set the table for a win and now I'm sure they're thinking it's time to Feast one two wouldn't chase that time so if they're looking to Feast are you saying they've already got a plate but are looking to go back for seconds yeah I'd say something like that just missing there and that's ball three [Applause] good plate appearance there able to take the walk oh a great back and forth and that it bad he had to lay off some really close pitches and somehow Bo he found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there I'll tell you right now I couldn't have done it high batting for the second time and that's strike one there was a high velocity fast ball in the zone I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter he's got good stuff pitch inside the zone and trust it there's the strike looks like he's wanting to work the upper part of the strike zone what does that mean Top Hand better to be working for the hitters adjust that side a little bit give yourself a chance to [Applause] hit on the ground right side and that one finds its way through throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out he kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for knock and he'll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole so the lineup flips over and here is leot taras singled and scored back in the first he's one for two that one's in there o and one [Applause] rander kicks deals swing and a highfly ball to left guel has it sized up puts it away for the [Applause] out the batt the first Bas Nathaniel low Nathaniel low up to hit all the way these two teams have battled in this game you know you need more got to continue to add runs if you're going to get out of here with a win oh that one called a strike going [Applause] one Runners at first and second with one [Applause] g big swing in a miss and he really sells the change up with that arm action outside low and to count one and [Applause] two swing and a Fly ball in the air out towards right center field no trouble here puts it away for the out two away so first and second with two outs now it's Cory Seager he's been really clutched with runners in scoring position this season so they'll have to be extra careful in this matchup swinging a Miss it's over style of baseball right there right big time V on the bump and Big Time pop at the plate not close with that one and the count is one and one Walsh over at second H at first two out of the inning now he breaks his b guel on the Run pulls it in on the run and that is that Rangers leave a pair as they're unable to add to their 6-3 lead free and we're back John chy and Chris Singleton with you and leading off the bottom of the fourth Christian Walker [Music] [Music] Walker ivaldi back to work and that's a little bit high ball one you know these Dbacks doing a good job of Simply getting the bat on the ball in this game and the numbers back that up they're hitting everything thrown at them their contact rate is in the low 90s it's like they know what's coming and that's just pretty ridiculous what they're doing right now those numbers are well above the Major League average and there's a ball that's the ball [Applause] [Applause] and a pitch in the air out towards left Center Durant grabs it on the run now back left field lordis G here's lordis gel Jr flyed to right his first time that one is absolutely belted way back there and it's off the wall around first and hustling for second and that's a two bagger Wast no time there showed off some really nice opo pop with that swing and just couldn't get it over the fence but I absolutely love everything about that approach and the mechanic right there Randle gpic now struck out looking 6th Inning his first time up and in and that's ball [Applause] one at the belt and fires and it's even up that split he a pretty nasty pitch explodes out of the hand looks like a fast ball and the bottom just falls out of it that one out to right he makes the grab runer tags it second and he's up to third safely with two gone hey you Suarez up to hit he walked in C around to score his first time up [Applause] swing and a popup in foul gra young drifts towards it and makes the play and that's out number three one left for the Diamondbacks and can't cut into that 63 deficit back here at Chase Field and now the right fielder Adi Garcia the why the kick the pitch and first offering is fouled off well these Rangers putting together some really good at bats in this game there's been a lot to like with how they're approaching their chances at the pl it looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early get him out of the game before he settles in so I'd say mission accomplished [Applause] that's off the mark and to count one and two spoils the two strike pitch and he'll see another kicks sandios goes down looking third time he struck out in this one and definitely an individual performance you want to flush he just hasn't looked very comfortable up there just one of those days but when you're still winning the ball game at least you can focus on doing your part to maintain that lead and getting that double here is Marcus simia one for two first pitch and that's in for a strike for Marcus Simon probably the biggest adjustment and Improvement he's made has been on defense Simeon made 35 errors as a short stop in 2015 with the Oakland A's and by the time 2021 came around he wanted gold glove with the blue jam now there's a certain point where you have to commit to what you think you see and he guessed wrong right there nasty slider with just terrific bite at the end next pitch misses it's two and two great job of laying off those pitches down in the zone to even the count up at two and two such a better feeling for the hitter [Applause] and the pitch gets a piece settles under it and they're two down now center field J two outs Bas is empty next up for the Diamondbacks Jake McCarthy [Music] not even close there one and0 he's done a great job getting the first two outs want to get this number two hitter get back in the Dugout to face three four five next inning two down nobody on F back ourway and that's out of play [Applause] and the righty [Applause] deals that one not close now two balls in a [Applause] 7th Inning strike and another ball Bulet on deck for [Applause] Arizona and a pitch [Music] swinging a foul over the screen and back out of [Applause] play two outs bases empty [Applause] the rander gives up the two out walk one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so B down the line or into the Gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the offensive side of it bashet in the Box again takes the strike not sure if he was expected for the pitcher to come right at him but he got a nice cookie there and just watched it the entire [Applause] way two outs swing and a popup foul out of play off to the right side that'll Arizona and they're still doubled up it's 6 to [Music] three we're back and they make a change to start the six the new pitcher Kevin GLE pretty tight game so they're looking for Quality pitches out of them right here got to do his best to keep the score right where it is Ezekiel Durant stepping in for the Rangers the pitch down the line tries to make the play but it's foul GLE AR righty that throws with power he features a four seam fast ball a slider and he works in a sinker and there's a foul [Applause] ball righty delivers fouled off the plate they'll do it again and he deals one ball two strike three and misses it's a strike out very frustrating right there as a speedy potential base runner when with two strikes you just struggle to put the ball in play you don't even have to get a hit at that point you can help your team just by reaching on an error but some way you got to find a way to shorten up the swing and put the ball in play next time [Applause] and that one lifted in the air center field McCarthy settles under it and it's caught for the out yeah that's right the catcher number 28ah two outs base is empty Jonah Heim getting ready to hit he's buil his reputation as one of the top framers in the sport [Applause] there's the strike the Diamond Backs with some movement in the pen Bryce Jarvis up and loosening in the pen Nelson getting cranked up as [Music] well kicks and fires bottom of the zone and a called strike quickly into an 02 count both pitches were down in the zone I think you set your sights a little bit higher because you'll have a tendency to a he locked him up and that'll do it the inning is over so they make short work of him there to the bottom of the six we go four five6 coming up it's the Rangers six and the Diamond Backs [Music] three first off ring is fouled off the Rangers leading by three here in the bottom of the six and it's swinging to miss man he was really Tardy on that fast ball great job job of setting him up by throwing mound now Bryce Jarvis and compared to a lot of other relievers strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year so the defense should be [Music] active leot T stepping in for the Rangers the wi in the p pitch that one misses and that's ball one one and0 right through there for a strike well that's really the money spot down and away if you can locate that consistently it's going to be real tall for hitters to square that up that's what you love to see relievers do coming out of that Bullpen here's a 1-1 out its way to the corner Carol sizing this one up one down now B the first baniel now the number two hitter Nathaniel low he's got a couple homers already so can he possibly do it again come on man of course he can those two he hit were legit and he looks pretty locked in right now at the [Music] dick and first off ring is f off Bas is empty one away here in the top half of inning number seven that's [Applause] inside missed with a change up and that's ball two left hand batter weights and another ball well he's so great about hitting the ball the other way get gets those arms extended so right there just trying to straighten him up a little bit so he doesn't have as much outside plate coverage that's a hit so a man aboard now with one away well patience and discipline paid off right there as he got into an advantage count showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way didn't get jumpy didn't try to pull the ball he let it get deep took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit seagar in the Box here lets that one go for a ball [Applause] leftand hitter Waits B oh he's really working him away this sbat sometimes take a little bit off velocity try to get a roll over something on the ground stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield [Applause] man at first one away next offering is in for a strike two two stri and a foul ball he stays alive [Applause] here comes a pitch got H by him for and next will be the cleanup hitter adolis Garcia over for three with three [Applause] strikeouts pitches in for a strike one one H hard that gets through throw in holds the lead runner at second two on now with two away a pretty rough game at the pl for him so far a bunch of strikeouts so that felt good I'm sure not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play that's a team to fat right there nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep [Applause] Simon in the box now no balls in a strike Welling it bat can be a little bit of a dance strike one here but few more pitches we'll see how it turns [Applause] out and a pitch that one ripped left field out of here Marcus Simeon goes deep his 12th of the season it's 93 that's their third home run of the game they're having a lot of fun at the plate in this one they've got the long ball working for them on autopilot a breaking ball on the inside part of the plate requires a hitter to stay really square with his mechanics if you fly open with the front shoulder there's no way you keep that ball Fair an outstanding job mechanically he deserves that home run left hander out of the bullpen Kyle Nelson and he's been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year typically at least one an inning so he'll be tough to get to Josh Young digs in now fast ball in for a strike going [Applause] 8th Inning one the pitch and that one fouled off two down nobody on there here's a swing and a drive bangs off the wall now he'll turn for second and he greets the new arm from the bullpen with a double having a really nice game here that's his second extra base hit nice line drive to the PO side right there but he didn't spin off of it that's the key you still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that so man aboard Ezekiel Durant stepping in for the Rangers one for [Applause] three and that's in there for strike [Applause] one already three runs across in the frame here in the second and final game of the series that one ripped left field and an automatic double as it hops the fence as a run scores well there's something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that you get to stroll in second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty and now you're just looking for the next guy to kind of do the same thing maybe put one in the Gap so you can jog home as well stepping in Jared Walsh that's in there the count man on second two down falling behind two and one two outs and one in scoring [Applause] position swing in a miss and that strike two just th that fast by him elevated and if you're not looking up in that location very difficult to catch up to especially with that velocity not close with that one and that's ball three [Applause] Miss struck him out inning over although plenty of damage done they get four runs on five hits no errors
