Halftime: Arizona Cardinals Look LIFELESS As Depth Concerns Magnify Against Denver Broncos

Arizona Cardinals in preseason game three the finale B Trail the Denver Broncos in Denver 14-3 on the board with a last second Prader field goal and uh I think you can tell General consensus of this fan base is this preseason stuff about a year the Cardinals clearly are not making it a priority why should we yeah I mean look it's the last uh piece of audition tape that Clayton Ton's going to get uh to make his case for qb2 of this organization up next is Desmond Ritter but you know I think that the the show headline lifeless depth concerns it encapsulates what we saw much in the first half ton does lead this offense to two potential scoring drives Matt Prader able to cash in on the second attempt from 50 yards drilled it missed the 55 Yer um but look I mean defensively offensively up front and getting blown off the line of scrimmage it's and Zach Wilson is is looking like a good quarterback which is never good for any defense in any situation I don't care if you've got your threes and fours in there yeah defensively not looking good especially early on in the half I want to focus on Clayton TBO 12 of 177 numbers don't really tell the story 119 yards 90 QB rating but three sacks taken I would attribute that partially to his protection I thought he probably could have thrown the ball away a little bit sooner but bottom line is you know scoring drives have not been there for the Arizona Cardinals this preseason and people might you know undervalue that or discredit that but I mean 14 points 13 points three points this preseason so far in 10 quarters to play like it's not very good and so I I think if you're Clayton tune like are you seen improvements yeah he's not turning the ball over I think he's got a little bit more command of the offense but I I think the Cardinals would tell you privately like yeah we're more comfortable with him like if he's our Clayton Tune third quarterback I don't know if we've seen anything that suggests that Clayton tune even with the Bevy of Talent with the starting offense Harrison Jr you know Michael Wilson Trey McBride Etc like I don't think that would be enough to prop him up and outside of what we could see here from Desmond Ritter in this complete job in the second half like they've got to be looking for another quarterback right yeah I mean I you can't be content right you can't be uh you know really confident and have a whole lot of conviction in your quarterback play Beyond Kyler Murray right I mean I think Clayton tune here's something I think you can't deny he's improved yes incrementally y but has it been you know everything that you wanted to see was it is it the jump that you wanted to see going up against you know not necessarily first team second team you know it's mostly a mix between second and third teamers during this preseason he's he's shown Improvement but is it where it needs to be operationally and then also Within the play uh to where you say okay if Kyler if if this thing if something happens that you you know you don't want to when your quarterback can't play in Kyler Murray can you rely on this guy in a pinch can he play can he start three games for you and you know saring that down it's got to make a lot of Arizona Cardinals fans feel uneasy you know de Ritter was acquired this off season to to basically stabilize qb2 and allow Clayton T to continue to develop and he just hasn't been very good like you're watching the landscape of backups throughout the NFL and I don't know if it's coaching scheme or the players themselves just look much more comfortable and confident and again outside of Desmond Ritter pulling you know a Houdini act and going for you know a couple touchdown drives this second half like he in my opinion he would be a waste of a roster spot based on what we've seen this this preseason so if you're the Arizona Cardinals whether it's you know a Tyler Huntley via a trade or claiming somebody off waivers like I I think that right now as much as we might complain about the pass rush or mainly me on this show it's like his qb2 vaulted ahead of the pass rush in terms of like realistic targets here over the next 72 hours because you know unlike clamoring for Hassan reik which I do every day like yeah there there will be a quarterback back made available here before Tuesday or right after that at least is competitive against what the Cardinals have and we saw last year they are not concerned about hey this guy didn't spend any time in preseason or camp with us and that doesn't matter Josh dos get ready in 10 days yeah but there there is more of an expectation of and there's also last year this was like uh Blake break glass in case of emergency and they did that right it was just a fire drill where I think this is like hey we've got our ones and some and some high volume backups just ready to go here we're confident once they get in on both sides of the football that you're going to see better play um but you know I don't think that there's going to be this this massive sense of urgency but I think like you see Anthony Brown get released by the Buffalo Bills could you tap into somebody who's got experience being on NFL rosters um the former Oregon quarterback could he give you some insight on the bills and could he be a guy that maybe because we know what Ritter is maybe come in and see if he can compete maybe as your practice squad guy but there's going to there's going to be options you know like I I floated Mike White to you and and you said you're dumb you're a dumb stupid person that doesn't know about football uh never text me again but look I mean there's gonna be options there's going to be options to the grass can be greener potentially on the other side of Desmond Ritter uh let's get to the Super Super Chat Chat here thank you so much Kyle $ five do I think Johnny's right love the start of this send pass rush help right now let's transition Kyle if we could to the defensive side of the ball uh no pass rush again outside of that Cameron Thomas had a nice rush albe it from the interior of the defensive line Edge Rush two those this preseason now from that spot absolutely so that might be a Telltale Sig here especially with Darius Robinson on the end Jesse Letta Victor D M getting a large majority of the snaps no Xavier Thomas in this game leads you to believe he has jumped them on the dep chart but I mean with with the status quo here with luketa and Victor D mcki playing the entirety of this game or what feels like it you knew you were you just weren't going to get much juice off the edge I don't know if this emphasizes the need or is this Bo is this simply like these guys are on the team they play special teams and oh by the way this just happens to be their position so we got to get through this preseason game yeah but it's becoming more and more of a a known commodity right you know know what it is and even in in like they Beyond special teams can you rely on them for anything and I I just don't know if you if you can and then like you get further down the depth chart you see like Tyreek Smith and you just get no pressure and um you know some of the guys even further down that outside linebacker room like it's not I I think from a rush and cover standpoint it's just been bad today like you just haven't seen anything I I saw our guy M likes what you seen from keyrell Clark I thought on the you know ke trell bounce back after a tough first series uh where you know he probably could have tightened up the tackling uh but then he gets in there and he's he's able to get the team off the field on third down with a making contact uh early and setting up a you know putting them on Fourth and and one and forcing the you know the punt and then a pass breakup so you know a stronger performance you know to to close out the half so it's it's you know there's good there's bad and there's a lot of ugly going on today uh I don't think you can make any true determination on the pass rush by looking at who's playing today because of the BJ oari injury uh you just couldn't risk anybody that you are going to rely upon and that you mentioned it Xavier Thomas getting out there and and getting nicked up before the start of the Season couple housekeeping items here uh Xavier Weaver looking good does the uh suspension that we covered on Friday do Z Jones open up a roster spot for him I he's certainly making his case Chris Moore had a nice catch so that that spot for the fifth receiver on this roster looks uh ever more competitive Z Jones will be put on the exempt list suspended list for five weeks to start the NFL season so the Cardinals have an an open roster spot if they choose to use it on a receiver and then you would mentioned to me Michael Carter Jr who most Cardinal fans would like to see make this team was in Street closed now there's been some misinformation did you D Marcato was he playing in this game or was he not playing in this game he's he I saw him on putt coverage was out there he didn't play he hasn't seen a snap in the Run game and I think you're seeing you know if der makado is getting snaps I think he's getting them where he would potentially get them in the regular season so I think they know what to expect from him and as far as running the football so they're not going to put him between the tackles uh like you're seeing with Tony Jones and Hassan Hall so I think that you know derado out there I know Trey Benson I saw him dressed but when they showed kazir white and Kyler Murray just chopping it up talk a couple fellas talking to ball on the sidelines I saw Michael Carter in Street Clos which is good I think it's a good sign for him making this team uh we will be
