[Music] welcome to the Port City Mobile Alabama home to the South Alabama Jaguars Hancock Whitney stadium and we have been fired up about this match all week today a couple of sunb Rivals ready to square off as we'll see the Georgia Southern Eagles taking on the south Alabama Jaguar for EA Sports college football ree stav is with you alongside David poock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game [Music] [Music] started Jaguars will get us started with the opening kickoff here he comes from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 so the Georgia Southern Eagles offense will get the first swing of the game and here he comes this offense is built completely around the talents of this running back a rare commodity in today's game and all eyes are on it and the defense knows it too you know every single snap this defense is going to be keying on this running back knowing that he is the key to the offense's success Williams looking for a man and it'll be incomplete this is some physical pass defense third and six and they'll need a big play here on this opening drive it's aw off and they did not let him reach the line to gain it'll bring up a decision here Georgia Southern brings on the punt team first time we've seen their punt team this afternoon you'll try to feel the Putt and see if he can give his offense better field position the solid return there offsets some of the punt yardage and really sets up this offense nicely so the South Alabama Jaguars offense will get the ball for the first time as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team and generally games go how these guys play if they make plays they've got a shot to win this one no doubt they got to show up the these are the team leaders these guys have to play well if they're going to win the football game the give to the tail back the Jaguars get it past the sticks it's first and 10 for this offense from the 42 [Music] wide receiver now comes in motion give to the running back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple offense gets set for second down here's the handoff makes a man miss one step WRA two-step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on Third and long he has to throw for it he's right on Target and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker now on fourth down here comes the field goal team and he missed it no good and after the Miss guys the score stays right where it is Georgia Southern has it back and here comes the offense again the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse he just had no rhythm in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run inside out for backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum gives it to the back on the draw just will his way for a couple out to the 35 Georgia Southern in a hurry [Music] third Williams will pass throws to the tight end fires a b and now it's picked off and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception that's how you got to give the defense credit though cuz with these conditions it's not easy to catch for the offensive players certainly not for the defense but great ey hand coordination securing that interception the Jaguars offense ready to go back to work they'll ride the running back and leave it with him he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 pre- snap Motion in the back field on second down he's looking down field he's got his man they stop him almost immediately short gain there still a little ground to cover to pick up the first third and long and he'll try to throw for it and the ball comes out what a disastrous play oh looks as if the defense got it and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for a toe fumbles are great when you force them and you're always thinking about as a defensive player but man when the weather conditions start to come down it starts to rain and you know that Ball's a little bit slick and you know more runs are coming you really try to get get to that football nice job getting the football out falling on top of it forcing the turnover Georgia Southern has it back ready to go to work on offense boy they hope this next Drive is more productive after throwing a pick last time Jesse Yeah and the coaches did a good job on the sideline there just talking to the Young quarterback and making sure he's able to turn the page calm him down to go out and refocus this drive yeah and some people do that better than others but you got to show some trust in him maybe get the ground game going help around him a little bit with the system throws to the wide out how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion the final play of the quarter coming hand off from the gun and a short gain on this run and that will bring us to the end of the First Defense has dominated the early part of this game and the stats point that out emphatically sometimes you see the offenses sort of settle in find areas to Pro after that first quarter they'll try to run for it now well within Striking Distance as that third down play gets him a first at the 29 Georgia Southern really efficient on offense Williams looking for a man grabs it in the middle and he's a real Nowhere Man tackled in this no game land they get to the line quickly and nice job by the defense that's what you're supposed to do as soon as they catch the football you want to limit that yards after the catch and he went nowhere after the catch nice job by the Deep he's got the tight end he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down Georgia Southern in a hurry [Applause] shotgun snap wants to throw it on third working the middle it's complete he is tackled but it'll be a fresh set of downs not the most productive half for this offense so far but finally starting to get it in gear first and 10 they get him on the ground but not before he rumbles all the way to the five Georgia Southern will have it now first and goal [Applause] they'll try to get it in with the Run he pushes his way down to the floor as they get closer and closer second and goal coming up it's now second angle on the option he steps and powers and works his way they finally get him down at the two and they've moved their way down but still they need two more yards can they bang it in with the running game on third down into the end zone goes touchdown Eagles and I love it I love the physicality of this offense it's third and goal I trust my offensive line to pave the way give the ball to my running back and know he's going to physically punch this thing into the end zone they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing and let's check in with Kevin Conor in the studio Kevin Dynamite match up today fellas let's show you what's going down Syracuse is currently ahead in this one but I don't see Jim Brown or Ernie Davis or even Donovan McNab out there this team has struggled to pull away they're up by a field goal over Virginia Tech just another week of college football where we come to expect the unexpected n oh and how about that I know Kevin and those guys will be keeping an eye on it for us power football with the Run he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple now facing a third and long brings up third Lopez wants to fire nowhere to go and the ball is loose once that ball was loose offense didn't have a a chance Defenders everywhere it's a turnover you know as quarterbacks you've got to be good in the pocket even when things are collapsing and you've got guys swiping at it you got to have two hands on in nicely crisp execution in the passing game and they've got it down to the three wants to fire on second down got it and the pass is complete but less than nothing to show for it they're knocked down behind the line this defense was put in a difficult spot but they've made it tough and makes the grab in the end zone touchdown Eagles it's hard for a defense to have to covers so much space when the offense goes empty you've get receivers and tight ends and running backs lined up out wide you've got to expand and it's harder to cover on the back end lining up to tack one more onto that lead and the extra point pushes the lead to 14 quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and they CA the drive with a four yd touchdown pass from inside the 10yd line he'll bring it back he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 South Alabama has it back the Jaguar offense going to work going up top on first down quarterback now breaking the field not a lot of time left here in the half let's see if they can cut into this lead and this drive isn't a must score but man you look at the scoreboard you're down two scores Jesse you got a good opportunity create some momentum cut it to a one- score game this is an important possession yeah it's important to create that momentum now David two and not wait to get it going here at the start of the third quarter You' got one drive here to get a couple of points you've got to start erasing and chipping away at this deficit this could be where the game turns right here finds his man and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few clock's running and they'll try TR to get to the line warped speed for second down Lopez to pass fires left just masterful working that sideline and getting the tow down for the catch and the Jaguars getting set on First and 10 looking to throw it again catch in the middle it's Ivory they make the tackle at the 33 but he's ripped off 15 yds and picked up a first down he wants to throw looking down the middle it's complete they make the tackle but he's got a fresh set of downs and it's first and goal from the setup there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer wants to go up top slips away he just got rid of that one to save the down didn't see anything he liked defense rose up deep in its own end on that last last play now a second and long coming it's complete they will score touchdown South Alabama and I tell you what that passing touchdown man that should spark this whole team like The Comeback is more than on now like they got the touchdown they cut into the lead you want to get a stop and go into the half get all the juices all the excitement and be like listen the passing game's rolling we got this The Comebacks in full of bit [Music] lining up for the pat on for the extra point and after the extra point they cut the lead in half down 14-7 so they got the touchdown now going to put it in the hands of their defense to finish off this half Alabama on the move from inside is five really disin job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 Georgia Southern has it back and here comes the offense again he wastes no time and comes out throwing it's caught the offense will have to use its first timeout of the half and a really good job by the quarterback being very decisive he saw his matchup he went for it he attacked it got the positive game I would say he's going to find that guy a few more times today and the physical play there forces the incompletion on first down now second and 10 Williams will pass finds his big tight end offense calls a timeout here critically important to make sure they have the right play call and everyone on the same page here they'll throw on Third and short and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down Georgia brings on the punt team this will be the second time they've had to kick it away the ball hits at the five and it'll go into the end zone for a Touchback running out of time here in the first half they're going to have to be efficient to put some points on the board before the break they stay aggressive and push their way out to the 33 and it's first down we got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try to get more points on the board before the break wants to throw on first down he's going to fire deep the pass Falls incomplete and that's how we'll finish this half first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connors in our halftime update guys it is tough to beat the pageantry and quality of play so far today in Mobile and I get it a lot of coaches will say the difference between winning losing comes down to stopping big plays and getting big plays but if you ask me it's more about how good you are on third down and how efficient you are in keeping drives alive those two stats can help you break the will of even the best defenses and help you come out on top and with that let's head back inside Hancock Whitney Stadium he'll bring it back from inside his spot really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 guys we'll have another look at this South Alabama offense good solid determined run there they'll Mark him down at the 27 the Jaguars racing to the line in the hurry up off the play fake they're bringing heat Wiggles free and he slid through that attempt and he's got room picks up the first down and gets down to avoid contact here's this offense with a fresh set of downs you know QBs want to make those big plays they want to they want to put up the big stats but when nothing's there sometimes you just tuck the ball get a minimal gain I like the slide by the way to get down and don't take a big hit after the productive first down play it's second and six second down quarterback on the keeper gets it past the first down marker and still running brought to the ground but not before getting it up for the first down the Jaguars are rolling down the field off the play fake on first down to throw takes the easy one to the back and the defense coming with bad intentions they knock him down for a loss Lopez wants to fire a little screen to the right running back this defense is going to have to be careful not only do they have to worry about this guy running the football but they've got to keep their eye on him when he runs routes too he is a versatile back they'll try to run for it they wrestle him to the ground but he's got plenty for a first down and the Jaguars come to the line with a new set of down looking to go up top on first down and the quarterback runs out of time and down he goes at the 38 on the defensive linemen live to get after the quarterback to get sacks to get by those big hog moles up front on the offensive line and say you taste dirt so now on second and you start to think just don't fall out of field goal range he's looking to throw going to try to pop one on the screen didn't have much room to run and not a whole lot of help short game there and still plenty of ground to cover for the first down on Third and long doesn't need to take the check down and that'll be incomplete they certainly weren't afraid to take a shot there and now it's fourth down so they'll send out the field goal unit it's good how nice is it as a head coach to have a kicker like this makes these decisions on fourth down so much easier just TR him out there and let him stroke it through the [Music] upright they were able to get a field goal on the board and now they'll kick it away Ki this one away he'll start the return inside his five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 Georgia Southern has it back ready to go to work on offense they'll have another opportunity to extend this lead after punting last time David and it's important to put that punt behind you it's it's over let it go get back to what you were doing that built this lead up yeah and the defense obviously they want a few Downs uh that last drive so we got to put them on their heels here maybe mix up a few Personnel groupings and try to show them some pictures they haven't seen yet he's really close to that first down marker but they stop him just a bit [Applause] short Williams looking for a man coming after him didn't have anything working and just had to throw it away on third down Georgia Southern brings on the punt team they'll look to hit him deep no return coming he'll call for the fair catch offense set on first [Music] down he'll pull it on the read not much working there it'll be second and nine kept it on the ground on first down now back to the line the play action fake they get an up crush and it pays off the sack at the 20 and this offensive Line's got to do a better job man you got to protect your quarterback listen this offense is not playing great but they got to somehow find a way to start to get something together here in this second half this defense has kept them backed up now one more stop and they can get off the field on Third and long looking to throw and he needs a b punch trying to make magic on the scramble man he was going to get his jaw jacked he got down just in time the Jaguars send out the punt unit first one's on its way the leg ought to be strong only called on twice in the victory last week and he'll work his way on the return out to the 35 yd line before he stopped Georgia Southern has it back and here comes the offense again they missed an opportunity to extend this lead the last time they had had it Jesse yeah they got to be able to regain that momentum right go back to what was working earlier on in this one and David to me that starts with being the more physical team no I definitely agree being the more physical team but understanding the situation of the game you're still winning you got the football back now put a nice drive together and execute got his man in the middle defense makes the tackle and that will probably be the final play of the third quarter guys we reach the end of the quarter Georgia Southern has the lead and as we switch ends of the field let's take a quick look at the national rankings one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the victory they have it at the 43 third and short trying to avoid making a decision on fourth down excellent coverage and good use of the hands to knock it away Georgia Southern brings on the punt team fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to punt catch is made at the 15 couldn't get away from that cover team and they've got him down at the 23 the Jaguars offense ready to go back to work that last Drive fizzled out to the running back from the shotgun gets it to the 42 yd line and that's a first down and the Eagles are on the Move first Williams will pass the sweet feet by a little time on the run and he'll slide to avoid the hit a Nifty pick up there second down coming up Hey listen it's important at that position to be able to be good off schedule everything's easy when it's on time you get the ball at but when things break down and they get off schedule you've got to have a guy back there that can make the right decisions he did exactly that and he's brought to the ground but not before he gets enough for the first down now they'll ride the hot hand he's stopped at the 32 picks up 10 on the play and gets the first down the Eagles come to the line with a fresh set of downs motion from the offense out of the gun the running back has it not a whole lot of room there three yds maybe second and seven went to the running game on first down now here they come again hand off from the shotgun they get him on the ground after he gets enough to move the sticks maybe this will breathe a little life into this offense which has been flatlined in the second half here's first and 10 he's looking to throw it pulls it in it's C defense is there to make the stop but he's got the first down and they'll have it first and goal with the six first home he'll try to get it in with the Run touchdown Eagles and they grab the advantage taking the lead here in the fourth man I love this offense being able to run the football late in the game when it matters and punch it in for the touchdown and more importantly Take the Lead [Music] ready to try the point after on for the extra point and the extra point is good and every Point counts it's now a fourpoint lead in the fourth lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown Drive 17 on the run from inside his own five just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 South Alabama has it back the Jaguar offense going to work to the air on first down gets it to the back nice move there gets away from one finds room he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down they've built this offense around finding mismatches and just get the ball to the back and let him do his thing yeah it it didn't have to be long down the field like it threw it right near the line of scrimmage but you know I got a guy when he gets in space he can make big plays happen nice decision by the QB starting a drive like that really builds confidence first down from the 45 running to the left able to scr three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven stuck with a running game on first down now here they come again fast motion from the offense quick touch pass to the receiver they stop him at the 42 but they get it across Midfield pick up 10 and the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs an unforced error there they don't get the snap off in time delay of game the delay of game pushes the offense back after the flag first and 15 for this offense Lopez to pass just a short pass to the tight end gets away from one find some space finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down looking to move it through the air [Applause] makes his connection and quarterback receiver on the same page nice job seeing the Zone understanding the drag route concept easy pitch easy catch second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning out of the shotgun they go to the ground they'll put the brakes on him at the 21 give him a yard we have reached a two-minute warning and time is of the essence if this offense is going to make a play quickly complete good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the [Applause] catch gets it out fast they'll get it down to the 8 yd line on that throw and catch and the defense is backed up against the wall going to work on second down in the red zone and still some ground to cover to pick up that first down they go up top to get it down to the 5 ydd line as they try to pay off this drive they're going to throw it again touchdown South Alabama they move on top here in the fourth and they're able to score on a drive where they had to have this late in the game and they look to their playmaker on the outside to win that one-on-one match up big time moments who do you trust as a quarterback you could tell this was a big moment he threw it to his big play wide receiver he knew would come down to it and now the big play in the fourth quarter for the [Music] touchdown he's got it in the lead is up to a field goal they put together an 81 yd drive and the score comes on a 5yd touchdown pass and he takes this from inside the five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 Georgia Southern has it back ready to go to work on offense pocket starts to collapse makes the grab it's Arnold and what a job by the defense seeing the quarterback throw the football break on the football no space allowed as soon as he catches it Defender meet ball carrier and gets him on the ground using the quick game we've got a Timeout on the field a tight game in the fourth and the Brain Trust will go to work on third down going up top and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down no sign of the punt team as they will go for it and try to move those chains on fourth down looking for the completion it's incomplete and they desperately needed to keep that drive going and they couldn't make the connection they'll run it to keep this clock grinding can get him to the ground out timeout called there by the defense desperate to get the ball back and save as much time as possible now on second down and we'll probably see another run and that might do it if they can get a first down they'll run it from the gun he's Dro behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three defense uses a timeout quickly trying to get that ball back and preserve time for their offense and the quarterback will just drop to a knee and and now on fourth down they will put it on the shoulders of the kicker to save them with his foot it's good is goodes theore Alabama 27 21 with that field goal now it takes a touchdown to beat them so you want to pin them back and then let the defense have a little room to work with from inside his own 15 trying to follow his blockers and the coverage team able to wrestle him down no time to waste here they've got to get set and pick up chunk yardage he's going to pass didn't have bu of a choice there but to get rid of it they've got to move quickly here still a chance but they've got to force the ball down the field Williams looking for a man and it's incomplete it was wild high and wide on that one got to get everybody lined up quickly time winding away and they've got to push the ball down the field pressure coming going to try to get it himself still running at the 40 they'll bring him down as he bulks up those numbers but not the most important one as they'll come up short in this game after not really playing their best earlier this season people said this team is bad now they won three in a row this team is good people were fickle yeah and we're probably the ones who were saying that a little bit Reese cuz they were struggling didn't look like they knew who they were and they didn't have the momentum going but now they defin definitely got it together Jesse and they look like a different team they sure do David we know teams get better or they get worse over the course of a season this team right now completely different almost the polar opposite than what we saw earlier this year and I'll tell you look at their schedule and who they've got left those teams better be careful this team is coming for it that's good
