New NFL Kickoff Rules Explained | BOLT BROS | NFL

Bros here want to give some love to the Special Teams and talk about that positional group and let's talk a little bit about some of these new kickoff rules it's a really confusing process big change for the whole kickoff rules but let's talk about that and talk about certain players that are in the Special Teams and some players that might actually become a kickoff returner for us an additional one I should say so let's go and get into it guys bu Bros let's go [Music] B Bros all right guys once again James from bull Bros here appreciate all the love and support guys please like the video he's been an awesome awesome special teams coach for us I'm glad that Harbaugh retained him he's done a phenomenal job since he's been here we've actually got a a pretty good special teams group for once I I feel like it's been as a Chargers fan it has been a ever revolving door of trying to find kickers and have a good solid set of players for kickoffs and special teams and what a mess it's been for us for a while so Ryan ficken has definitely stabilized that department for us now with the new rules it's going to be fun to be able to see what happens it's going to be interesting to see what Ryan ficken does with the kickoff rules too a lot of coaches out there are saying they got a lot of tricks up their sleeves it's going to be fun to be able to see it all progress within preseason and just kind of see how it works so let's just talk a little bit about some of these kickoff rules so it's an interesting one so basically the kickoff team is going to start at the 35 the receiving team is gonna excuse me 35 and then we'll be excuse me at the 40 and then at the 35 so there's going to be a five yard gap between each teams now they could have up to 10 players at the front line as their defense um obviously the kickoff team will have their 10 up front the one that is receiving has to have two in the outside of the numbers here and they can't do like wedge blocking or anything like that it's kind of almost a straight up blocking situation I don't know how it's going to work with the penalties and all these different things I'm not sure how that works yet but basically you could have two players in the back field getting the kick this is the landing Zone here so in the 20 to the goal line there's a landing Zone that you want to get at so basically the rules are you know ball will be placed at the 35 if it goes out of the end zone so completely out of the end zone if the ball will be placed at the 40 if it doesn't reach the landing zone so down here so that's kind of crazy ball at the 20 if it hits the landing Zone and rolls into the endzone I think that's kind of going to be the goal for most teams try to find these Corner Edge type of areas and uh out of bounds basically 25 yards from the spot of the kick so that's kind of crazy to think about that and must be returned if received in landing zone so you have got to return it no you know fair catch no none of that you have to return the ball at that point if you catch the ball in the landing zone so it's very very interesting to see um you know once again big thing receiving team could have up to two people in the back field helping out now that's not necessarily that new I mean that's been done in the past at least having an extra Blocker in the back field um or you know it could be two people that could catch the ball and do some damage with it so who knows it's going to be interesting I heard some weird rumors that Justin field was Fielding some kicks for the Steelers you know maybe some teams are looking at a guy that has speed a guy that could actually um you know throw the ball maybe do some sort of laterals or such it's going to be interesting to see it's could be a little bit of rugby is kind of in a weird way with this rule but once again this has been something the XFL has done for some years this is something that was now coming into this year for the NFL preseason is going to be interesting because to me it's going to be a lot of these teams trying out a lot of different ways of how this could all work out for special teams and different strategies that they're going to work with what I'm very interested to see is to see where the starting point for a lot of these teams average average starting point what if it's going to be 30 what if it's going to be 40 what if it it's going to shorten up the field a lot for offenses it could create a very high scoring offense possibly low yardage for a lot of teams too um because the field could get a little shorter now it used to be 20 or 25 you know kind of being the starting point in general now it could shorten up by 10 15 yards so I'm interested to see where this average starting point is going to be for teams um I think that's going to be an interesting thing because that'll create a strategy for the team most teams would say hey if it's ends up being 40 let's just not make it a threat kick the ball out out of uh or out of the end zone put it at 35 that shortens it up just a little bit for us gives him you know a little bit less ability to run the back the ball possibly get a touchdown who knows it's going to be interesting to see the strategies here that happens with this new kickoff rule I'm I don't think I'm too much of a fan of it but we will see where it leads needs from this point so I want to hear your guys' thoughts on that too uh moving on one thing I'll say is we do have a stud as a kicker with JK Scott he's a guy that has been phenomenal for us he has been a guy that actually has great hangtime with his kicks uh one big stat that I will say since we do have to get into that Landing Zone with the new kickoff rules he's actually tied for eighth in the league of having 30 in the 20 Zone 20 yard Zone uh for his punts so he's done 30 of those last year that's going to be a big stat this year and we got a kicker that has been tied for eighth in 2023 with 30 of those uh last year so it's going to be really interesting to be able to see this is he's going to need to do a lot of that and every kicker in the NFL essentially needs to do that now if everybody is going to allow the kickoff rule or basically allow them to run back or return the kicks at this point so I'm very very interested to see how that pans out too so it's going to be interesting so we got a guy that could do that so if we're going to do that we got a guy that could put it in the 20 no problem that's going to be cool to see so I'm excited about JK Scott being here maybe they're also just going to do a lot of hangtime if you could kick the ball up really high and make it stay up in the air you could allow your your your players get downfield shorten it up tackle them in that Landing Zone area shorten up the field and make it a little bit longer for him so I think hang time which JK Scott's great at too and and placement into that 20 yard you know Landing Zone JK could do that so I'm excited to be able to see how that develops further once again preseason is going to be major to be able to see how this all pans out too so moving on our field goal kicker Cameron Dicker did you guys know that he was actually born in Hong Kong for for some reason I maybe have heard that but it never settled in my head but he was born in Hong Kong first NFL Hong Kong born player in the NFL uh he started his first 11 years living in Hong Kong very cool thing to know didn't know didn't know but here he is Cameron Dicker man what an absolute stud what a great pickup finally we got a field goal kicker that could really do his job in be absolute nails with it too uh he is current stats are 52 two of 55 in his career with hitting field goals phenomenal stats that is a phenomenal phenomenal stat for Cameron Dicker you know even cool to be able to see that Jim Harbaugh recognizes that too in the OTAs he's like this guy could hit anywhere which is awesome so we got a guy here Cameron Dicker that is going to solidify that field goal kicking side for this game I do think it's going to be interesting to see what happens with his his contract extension but he's definitely going to be one of those guys that does deserves a contract extension and stick with the Chargers for years and years and years so excited for Cameron Dicker and see what he could do this year the end of last year I mean he had Rock Solid numbers I think he wenton 11 for 12 in field goals um I mean he had so many opportunities when Eon stick was out there just couldn't find a way to be able to punch it in for touchdowns under Easton stick but a lot of opportunities for Cameron Dicker late in the season too so this guy's an absolute stud and will be big for us I have a feeling he will hit some major major game-winning type field goals for us this year so Cameron Dicker let's go my my friend let's go let's go moving on kick return punt return game Darius Davis you know what a great kick kick returner for us last year I thought he was gonna take two of them to the house last year he ended up taking one to the house I feel with these new rules there's going to be a lot of gaps in the coverage too it's going to be a little bit smaller windows but I think there's going to be a lot of opportunity where there's going to be a lot of people getting a lot of touchdowns off of punt returns or kickoff returns it's going to be very very interesting to see how this all develops here guys um I do think that Darius Davis has the opportunity to be able to get possibly three kick returns this year in my opinion for kickoffs I think it's going to be great I think with his speed he's going to find a way to be able to get downfield quick find those holes in the coverage and just see you later it's just interesting how it's all set up because it's very much like you can't do wedge blocking you can't do this can't do that there's a lot of penalties involved of how this new kickoff rule is and it's awesome um I will even just throw it out there I mean there are coaches that we do have on our team that have been on the XFL we even have Donald Parham who was in The X XFL guys that actually been there that actually can help out with this whole rule so I think that's going to be really really cool that we already got guys that could teach us on exactly what to do um so keep that in mind we have players here that will be able to help us out and be able to find maybe some strategies on how to make it happen a lot of coaches like I said earlier they are talking about a lot of things that they could potentially throw out there and kind of throw some curve balls with the whole new rules and be a little bit more inventive with these kickoff rules now it's not a ceremonial type kick anymore now guys you pretty much have to find a way to get it in the 20 allow the player to run back the ball at this point so d darus Davis could do some great damage this year so I'm excited to be able to see Darius Davis now I'm going to just throw out another name here DJ shark now DJ shark when he was in college he did kick returns too he did a few early on in his career too I do think that its speed is going to truly kill in this whole punt return type situation or kickoff return situation since you can put two players in the backfield why not put another Speedy guy in the backfield you got then nine guys up in the line you got two in the back two guys that could potentially run the ball and and really do some damage I think DJ CH could be one of those guys that could find his way to be able to get a little bit of punt returns or kickoff returns within this team now I'm excited to be able to see that because personally if you got two fast guys in the back field you could probably do a little little bit of lateraling of the ball to you could kind of have a little bit of a rugby type element that's added to this kickoff return game once again I've heard some people with the whole you know Justin Fields potentially feel feeling kicks that's kind of funny um but you could see maybe even quarterback back there you might even say East and stick what if there's a guy that's a speedier guy in the backfield that could go out there and run the ball around and throw the ball around and do all these weird little things it's going to be very interesting and now I don't know how it's all going to pan out I would love to be able to see it all happen in the preseason and see how it all works out where the ball essentially will be placed on average it's going to be interesting to see the strategy what these coaches are deciding to do with the kickoff rule but I would love to be able to hear your guys' thoughts on the kickoff Rule and the players that we do have on here on the team currently and what we're going to do with this whole kickoff return situation I think it's going to be fun to watch and maybe they're going to do something weird like that with quarterbacks in the back field who's got some speed we know Easton's got some Wheels maybe they're going to start doing some lateraling who knows I'd like to be able to hear from you guys so
