[Music] welcome to the vikings now i'm your host patrick sietmann with a really fun video that i really had a good time scripting out and building for you guys today we're gonna be taking a look at the vikings practice squad because each nfl team will again allow up to 16 players to be on each team's practice squad and they're also going to take a look at former vikings who were just cut from video out to more and more vikings fans but let's get into former vikings that were cut from this vikings 53-man roster starting off with calamond he was with the browns now and i really think this was kind of a shocker for the vikings and just kind of just in general that he ended up going to cleveland i did not expect cleveland to pick him up but it kind of makes sense you know if you want your backup quarterback to kind of have a similar play style to your starter he has a similar play style to guys like obviously desean watson and jacoby bersette armin watts who we cut which i thought was the biggest shocker out of the final vikings 53-man roster he ended up going to the chicago bears and then sean mannion the quarterback for the seattle seahawks he ended up going to or sean manning former vikings quarterback he ended up going to the seattle seahawks and also key note here emir smith marsette he also went to the chicago bears so potential revenge game for armin watts and amir smith marcette later on in the year but here's what kevin o'connell said about cutting cowamond he said you can put a lot of pressure on a player if he's not ready i still think kellen's got tremendous upside but to ask him to be that number two quarterback being a snap away on being a snap away on a team we feel very strongly about competing on i didn't think that was fair the count and listen i think this was the right move i agree with them i was talking to my dad the other day and we were saying could you imagine if monde had to go in and step in for kirk cousins in a big time game and he had to play the full four quarters and consistently hit throws with precision and with accuracy i would just kind of be concerned that he would throw four to five picks i think taking nick mullins he has experience playing backup quarterback in the nfl i feel like he would be more game ready if he would have to step in if kirk would going or have to miss time do the injury but i couldn't want to hop in here to just the overall nfl practice squad rules and really just the overall look of the nfl practice squad because i was curious about this going into finally finalizing the vikings 16-man practice squad roster so here are the rules players with no nfl experience with zero occur at occurred seasons the players who were active for fewer than nine games during their only occurred season up to 10 players may have no more than two accurate seasons up to six players may be signed without any limitation on earned sing seasons and then younger practice squad players are set to make eleven thousand five hundred dollars a week this year while players with over two years of experience in the league will have a weekly salary of 15 400 that equates to 207 000 or 277 000 for the 18-week regular season that salary is not guaranteed meaning a practice squad player can be released at any time and the salary does not count against a team salary now here in terms of the poaching rules taking players from other teams team and it says teams are allowed to poach players of another team's practice squad if they are signing them to the active roster a team can sign a player from their next upcoming opponent's practice squad but it must be done six days before the game or ten days if it is during the bye week it also goes on to say teams can protect up to four players on your practice squad to prevent them from being poached thought thought that goes into effect on tuesday each week so a player a team wanted to protect could still get signed by another team that monday now i'm going to go through kind of the more notable names that signed with the vikings practice squad and they cleared waivers starting off a tight end nick mews the seventh rounder from this year's past nfl draft he obviously did not show a lot of i guess impact during the preseason so he's back on the practice squad tristan jackson i'm actually shocked to clear waivers he had a great preseason for the vikings and just a great overall camp he ended up clearing waivers he's now on the vikings practice squad so good for him and then josh so cool josh goal as i like to call him unfortunately the vikings back up center he did have to join the vikings practice squad but good for him he'll get really good reps and then guard kyle hinton from washington university he ended up clearing waivers just like the other guys and i think he could be a really good depth piece if any lineman interior offense lineman were have to go down considering how weak the interior the vikings offensive line depth is i think kyle hinton could be a guy that maybe gets brought up mid-season but then tj smith this was another kind of shocker to me that he got cut from the roster six foot three 300 pound beast in the middle defensive tackle he was cut and he cleared waivers which was another kind of shocker that he made it through the nfl waivers and he's back on this vikings practice squad safety miles dorne he was kind of a guy that i'm shocked that went back to the vikings practice squad i thought maybe he would go join another team but he's back and ready to go and then bryant kobach the running back which honestly he would kind of was facing an uphill battle the entire nfl train or entire vikings training camp in vikings preseason mainly just because he had dalvin cook madison kane wong wu and ty chandler all ahead of all ahead of him kind of tough for him to crack this 53-man roster but props to him staying with the vikes practice squad then nate harrison another kind of shocker that he cleared through waivers but it's great to have that corner depth on this young corner depth chart i think he'll be a really good depth piece another shocker to me man generous robinson from that infamous rick spielman 2021 draft class he's back on the practice squad i'm really excited to see if he could develop into a really good edge because he has really strong measurables as you see six foot five 258 pounds crazy long arms freak athlete just needs to kind of shore up his technique which he can do getting these really solid practice squad reps dan chasena special teams demon the past three years for the vikings he cleared waivers and it's funny any time dalvin cook or justin jefferson whenever they're asked by reporters hey who's the fastest guy on the vikings they all say dan tracena so pretty shocking that he did clear waivers but i'm happy that he is back and then jalen ty twyman he ended up joining the vikings practice squad he was the one who was unfortunately shot last year and he was really battling through in or battling just kind of that recovery process so good for him that he's staying within the organization i'm really excited to see what he can develop into but if you guys want to show the vikings practice squad some love you know these guys obviously had ambitions to make the vikings final 53-man roster but unfortunately they couldn't so go travis taya venon and then tay gowan and then here's the shocker david wow former lions quarterback ended up joining the vikings practice squad today out of a little bit of a shocker so i thought that was a really good pick up for the vikings just kind of getting that qb three death quasi came out today and was saying that they're still in the market for another quarterback which is pretty exciting you know i feel like quarterbacks it's always a position that us fans keep our eyes on and i am very excited to see if any of these guys can kind of develop into anything if they can ever crack the 53-man roster during the year because there is some talent on this vikings practice squad but if you're excited because listen i love diving into the practice squad i love diving into the nfl preseason you know the third and fourth stringers on this roster but at the end of the day i'm just excited for week one i'm excited to see the vikings play the green bay packers in u.s bank stadium
