CFB 25 - UNC Charlotte vs Rice [Week 5] - Pt.1

welcome to Houston Texas and the home of the rice owls where we are anticipating a Full House of Fans to give a hoop what we have in store today a clash between a pair of AAC squads the 49ers will kick it off to get us underway he'll bring it back from inside to SP and the coverage team gets the returner on the ground the owl return to team didn't help matters out much there and all eyes will be on this man because he is electrifying every time he touches the ball I mean so much fun to watch can hit home runs can make big plays everything in this offense starts with that ball man what I really like about him too is he's versal right he can carry The Rock he can catch the football he's good at blocking this guy stays on the field for a reason solid gain to get him out close to the 20 pick up a five to the 19 this running back just doesn't go down easily it's just difficult for defenses to get him on the ground not overly huge but if I'm an offensive coordinator I'm going to continue to find ways to feature him and just you know what let his talent do the rest halfway there on first down it's second and five they'll ride the running back and leave it with him just gets it to the 28 pick up of one I like feeding my guy I like getting my running back touches feeding the so he can break some of those big runs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced dropping back it's Warner he wants to go deep oh what a grab by the defense those kind of plays can be huge for momentum even with the short return they're set up at the 45 not the start this kid was looking for very first pass of the day gets picked off this is a defense that's got a lot of ball Hawks on the back end and he's got to be real careful with his eyes not Telegraph throws like he did right there he's going to have to settle in first down here for the [Applause] offense looking for a physical attack from the gun a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive play positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down he'll run it again not a whole lot of progress made there on the short run thir the marker is at the 35 and they need to get it there to convert third down from the gun wants to pass he rifles one deep down the right side and it goes through his hands oh he had an explosive play right there for the taking but couldn't reel it in it's fourth down and six and they'll try to convert he'll try to throw and pick up the first down the completion well past the sticks well they just drained all the suspense out of the fourth down conversion moving the chains easily now what a great second effort by the receiver there catches the football he knows he's got to get some yards to get that first down nice job understanding that getting to the sticks and getting the first down and he'll run across the sidelines after the good gain well the offense knew what they needed to get that first down so they dial up the running play they get just enough to keep the drive alive Brown will throw it and they get to the quarterback and knock him down back at the 16 I think defenses sometimes get frustrated and you want to get Blitz happy and because you give up yards in this day and age you're going to give up yards who cares this is the area you're going to Bow up nice job on first down stopping a couple more Downs stay aggressive third and it's still third and goal looking to throw and he needs a chunk play it's incomplete he was shooting for the end zone right there and on fourth down they'll try to put three on the board nice job by the defense they're mixing up their look they're third and long in field goal range they go Zone coverage so everybody on the back end has the eye on the quarterback and they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion so the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away after putting up a field goal let's see what the defense can do from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 rice takes over the owls ready to get that offense cooking again after that last pick David they really need to take care of the ball this time no doubt and Palmer I want to know what Spurrier said to you on the sideline after a pick do that again and you'll be right here beside me for the rest of the game you got to go out you got to call your plays and I hope this coaching staff isn't going to be afraid to throw at this drive all right look I know the defense was feeling real good about their run de coming into this one and how they've been playing up to this point but finally David the offense breaks through and they finally generate something positive on the ground and I can't tell you how easy it is when you're going to throw the ball consistently and I know it I'm going to pin my ears back and I'm going to get to the quarterback it makes life really easy on a defensive line but when you can have balance now the defense doesn't know what's coming they need more of this if they're going to be successful on offense leaves it with the back Powers through the defender tackled at the 45 after a 5yd pickup a lot of times when you think about speed back speed speed speed you think on the edge you don't think in between the tackles you don't think about breaking tackles they try to break your ankles problem is when you're try to run there as fast as you possibly can a lot of times you don't get to put a good hit on him and in turn you see he breaks tackles and make big plays I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but you got to do a great job gang tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs they stop him at the 42 but they get it across Midfield pick up 10 and the first down the owls come to the line with a new set of downs wide receiver coming across in motion touch pass on the Jet Sweep makes it pass to marker and they'll finally bring him down after he rips off a huge play rice rushes to the line I love that play call and I love the timing of the pre-nap motion because the quarterback was able to get it to the receiver right behind the offensive line because of the timing he was able to outflank the defense that puts him out in space where he's able to use his speed nice job with the pre- snap motion and time going to work in the Red Zone they can pick up the first down without getting it into the end zone the give to the back he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three well he was trying to do it all by himself at the end of the day it's a tack I mean the number of tackles he broke at some point somebody's got to get blocked to help the guy out a little bit man the defense was like a bunch of and here's a fumble way behind the line the defense pounced on that now they're headed the other way that's why you got to avoid third and long situations if you're on offense because the defense knows its pass and all these guys are pinning their ears back they're getting up field and you're under so much duress on top of that you give up a fumble that is a huge play for the defense Charlotte will send the offense back onto the field always good to get points on to drive David but Chip Shot field goals can leave you a little empty and I think it's great to get points but the great teams get touchdowns in the red area you got to get out there this time and execute a little better on this drive you're absolutely right David and generally the best Red Zone offenses are the ones that run the ball the best so let's see if they can be a little bit more physical on this drive and he'll be taken down but he does have enough for the first down well I know this is an offensive line that has a ton of Pride and they want to come out each and every game and really impose their will on the dline they got just enough push there on that run play to pick up the first just a little off [Applause] incomplete after the misfire now on second Down Easy Brown wants to pass he's taking the shot and it's incomplete going for the massive explosive play instead they're looking at a third down really nice play by the defender being in a good position for that deep ball down the field not letting the receiver put his big body on him go up over top the only thing that could have been better is that thing tipped to another Defender and it was an interception but great coverage by the defender he strike downfield excellent job working through the air there finding a hole in that defensive picking up a first down and the 49ers have this offense rolling looking to throw it again coming after him and they got him for the sack and the defense needed that one badly they're losing in this game they just gave up a big play so they finally get the sack but you feel like they're going to need more than that they're going to need some turnovers to get back in this game that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there seventh play of the drive coming up but a long way to go on third down looking downfield and he needs a bunch going to try to pop one on the screen they play that screen nicely he tried to find his way to the marker but it'll be fourth down so he was forced to just take what the defense gave him and they were able to stop him short at the first down and when you're a defense and you get thirdd and long and you know EX L where those sticks are you set your feet at them they throw it underneath I go rally make the tackle perfect third down and long execution by this defense man I I love those guys that are willing to put their body on the line and he does it right here man just lays out that Ball's coming in you could see it from several yards out making that play laying out keeping the football from touching the turf great concentration great effort by the receiver they get him on the ground with this running game imposing it will 6yd gain down to the 17 Brown will throw it lets it go to The End Zone it falls incomplete he was trying to find his man for six and that is a huge missed opportunity for the quarterback you've got your guy wide open in the end zone you're not under pressure you just got to hit him that ball got away and that's one he'd like to have back another incompletion on third down on Third and short in field goal range they dial up the pass play was trying to get through his progressions there was just simply nobody open couldn't make it accurate enough throw ball Falls incomplete Now setting up a big decision here on fourth down and it's no good guys have missed opportunity there the lead is still three rice has the ball back and they're ready to send the offense back to the field looking for a crease it's Connors and maybe he'll get back to the line of scrimmage but no more than that got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 easy he's looking to throw and that's going to be incomplete a lot of contact on the play but no Flags it'll be third down this is a team right now playing with tons of confidence because of how much their defense is dominating just look what they did the last time they took the field and look what they're doing early in this game they've got dudes flying around making plays they are a tough unit third and long and he'll try to throw for it complete Outfield that one could really put this drive into high gear as they have a first down at the 37 and the owls come to the line with a fresh set of downs one man in the back field and he gets it and the defense makes the stop after a minimal game you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs and they'll stop him after a minimal pickup here they come facing third and long from the 40 DB's lock up tight on the receivers quickly complete good tackle there to stop him short of the first down and now they have to make a call they didn't quite get that route run deep enough to pick up the first down now they've got a fourth and short and I think everybody at home tends to yell at their television said why aren't you getting past the first down marker why did you run your route short defense did a good job knowing where that was but now fourth down offense has to make a decision Charlotte has the ball back the 49ers offense will return to the field you want to talk about taking the wind out of your sails Drive the ball down the field and miss the field goal David you know what don't leave it up to Kickers execute better offensively I think you move the ball nice you got to keep that in mind but Palmer I think you got to stay aggressive and don't settle for field goal yeah because you got to know there's just no margin for error right now you just have got to be able to execute at a higher level out of the gun the inside GI that's about as close as you can get to that marker and it will be second and just a few breaths away from the first down man when I can run the football like that on first down and create second and inches and stay way ahead of the sticks and and be in a position now where I can throw the football or run I will have a lot of success on the offensive side of the football and off from the [Applause] shotgun and he's tripped up but not before picking up the first down wow the running back there showing you his skill set as he's able to rip off that one for a first down it's first and 10 they've moved it to the 41 used the play fake now to throw almost intercepted it'll fall incomplete the defense almost came up with a turnover after the misconnection it's second down Brown wants to pass finds a tight end I know you want to stretch the field horizontally but working a little vertical in wouldn't hurt even no it wouldn't and you got to be able to work with some spacers entire field that we got to attack on offense right now that was just way too much work for little game and they won't be able to connect down field looking for a big time play that's why it's so important for this defense to win first and second down you set up third and Longs like that you can show your exotic looks get the pass rush going everybody on the back end expecting throw and that's how you force incompletions and Force fourth things oh he loves to fire down field and it's incomplete the long pass downfield they couldn't hook up three tight ends in the formation on First and 10 and they decide to go for it they decide to be aggressive got to throw the football down the field receiver oh it's a fumble and the defense snatches it and they've reversed the field speeding down the left side and a tremendous return on the play before he's brought [Applause] down and they'll get off one more play before the end of the quarter they'll dial up the run on first and goal and he's to take it to the house touchdown Charlotte number Z well this offense is top 10 in the country in points per game because they've got a lot of speed and they've got home run hitters they score fast they don't need 10 plays to go down the field you saw it right there they've recruited well they've got Playmakers they are going to be a problem for defenses all year long zero about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown kick on the run from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 one final play before the end of the quarter the lone backs got it makes him talk to the hand they make the Stop and that'll bring the first quarter to a close time has expired here in the quarter and it's Charlotte on top really strong performance so far to be able to build a lead here in the first period as we look at the stats now to see if they can answer this early Blitz here in the second quarter we'll get this quarter going with a second down play [Applause] oh he's looking to throw that play just never had a chance they knock him down for a loss of five this defense has kept them backed up now one more stop and they can get off the field on Third and long dropping back it's Warner feeling some heat that is a gut punch if you're the offense because they're in dime Personnel they're only rushing four guys you've got five offensive linemen you've got the option bringing other people in to help give your QB time and this offense not good enough rice will be forced to send out the punt unit three and out they got stuck in Reverse they hope the punt can bail them out sometimes avoiding disaster is the best thing the punter just gets it out of there found a little Running Room on that one picked up some nice blocks before he's run out of bounds Charlotte will send the offense back onto the field Jesse a very productive Drive last time wound up with a touchdown yeah mixing and matching play calling really well nice balance on that last one dayve we'll see what they can do here in this next Drive yeah and I don't expect anything different when you put together a drive like that I would do more of the same keep the pace keep it going not what they had in mind to start this drive here comes second and 13 the receivers often will run their route based on a side adjustment looking to pass on second down that's caught it's Thomas he's run out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down that big pickup on what they call the drag route but if you hit it on time you can hit the turbo boosters and you've got to be accurate on the throw too Reese nice job by the QB there putting it out in front of his receiver to make an easy catch and then Advance it they'll throw it on first down that one came in hot and it's incomplete going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down he's looking to throw he's got it on the run and the catch and run into the end zone touchdown ner how efficient have they been as they extend this lead here in week five that touchdown gives this team a pretty significant lead at this point and that's what you want you want to start fast you want everything to come out and start clicking make some plays it doesn't always work that way but when you do man the energy the crowd everybody's into it now the other team better respond almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown what kind of field position can he help them with on the return makes it move he's on the loose wide open and it's a foot race he won't get him it's a touchdown well maybe they thought if they kicked it into the end zone that he wouldn't dare bring it back instead he just dared them to tackle him and nobody could what an explosive return yeah and those guys got so much speed they Ain Scar and you could tell takes it out good blocking give him a little crease and you could see the speed you don't put slow guys back deep you don't see Jesse Palmer returning kicks no no no no you see the fast guys and you see an open space and boom he's G on Charlotte has the ball back the 49ers offense will return to the field that last Drive really productive David wound up with a touchdown they'll try to do it again yeah so I don't expect this offense to change too much Reese they had a great Drive they got the touchdown everything working I would expect them to keep pushing this ball downhill imagine if they could put another touchdown on the board right here they could capture so much momentum in this game with backto back TDS the give to the tail back gets it out to the 25 yd line a gain of three the Run game just has not been working for this offense all game long we saw it on that last play as well just not getting enough push up front on the offensive line they haven't been physical enough that's caught it's M smashes through the tackle really nice pick up there as they have it out to the 44 with a first down the 49ers come to the line with a new set of downs they'll keep it on the ground nice move to keep moving they stop him just a link or two short of the first and man what they can do on second down here and that would be the definition of first down success putting your in a good position it's second and inches I can do whatever I want next I can take a shot down the field I can run the football and get a new set of downs like nice first down execution obliterates him still on the Move in his sophomore season he's really learn to find that Running Room and that's all you want right you want that first down understand the situation understand I got to get North and South get a first down get a new set of [Applause] downs the play fake on first down to throw and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down just didn't seem like the quarterback and his intended target were on the same page there after the misfire it's second down Brown will throw it unleashes one deep oh man he almost picked that one off in the end zone instead it'll be third down they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on Third and long he has to throw for it oh he just brat dropped it he had the ball and didn't look it all the way in and it'll be fourth down this offense believes you are given four downs for a reason you've got to use all of them two for three so far today fires to the wide out makes a catch past the sticks turns out to be an easy conversion for this offense as they move the chains on fourth down he came into this year with big expectations everybody expecting him to stat it up and now at that last completion he's already over 2,000 yards passing for the season they keep attacking through the air flips it out in the flat and that play just looked to be a mess from the snap and he's right out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage that last play the kind of thing that can mess up a really good drive it's second and 17 throws toward the end zone picked off going the other way and he's got room and they capitalize not only on the pick but the great return to give the offense tremendous field position a first down for the offense wide receiver shows motion touch pass on the Rock nowhere to go the ball's loose oh looks as if the defense got it and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its own offensive players when they got the ball in their hand they're trying to make plays right trying to make you miss there's nothing better than closing that Gap and sticking that head right in that guy's chest and causing a fumble pressure coming and a nice pick up on the run and gets down to avoid contact when you have scrambling quarterbacks you got to have a spot you got to have somebody in the middle of the field everybody's playing coverage but that guy's job is to focus on the quarterback and make sure he doesn't SC and he'll find The End Zone touchdown 49ers this offense is so good man they can hurt you in so many different ways and they do it so quick so explosive they can put small Drives together big Drives together they really had a great year and that's why they're a top 10 offense and right down the middle lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive on the move from inside is five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at to put some points on the board here there's obviously a lot of football to go so it's not necessarily Panic time just yet but I'm getting the ball into the hands of my best Playmakers on this drive I hear you Jesse but not panic time have you seen my defense I mean I'm not trusting them to get a lot of stops so he puts a lot of pressure on this offense you make up the game plan and not a lot on the play sheet for this third and long from inside their own 20 looking to pass it's Warner throws to the wide out just masterful working that sideline and getting the toe down for the catch what a big catch on third down going up catching the football understanding where you're at now getting a fresh set of downs nice play by theer the give to the single back just working and poking and prodding and finding his way up to the 36 it's just simple simple first down run showing your physicality your offense up in a good spot on second down he'll let it fly finds his big tight end they are finding soft spots in this defense he's got it down to the 25 rice rushes to the line well after that last play you can see how electrifying this guy is and how special he is after he makes the catch if I'm on offense I'm trying to find a lot of ways to get him touches in this game here's the hand off and they drag him down but not before he picks up the first down the owls come to the line with a fresh set of downs now from inside the Red Zone catch in the middle it's Campbell that throw and catch gets him down to the six and the defense is running out of answers operating in the Red Zone here on second down well they execute the end route and how about the arm strength by the QB that was an absolute bullet on that and that ball is intercepted at the goal line and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its own this is obviously not a great start for this quarterback here two interceptions already in this game he's got to do a much better job with his decision making Charlotte will send the offense back onto the [Applause] field the give to the back a solid run there as he'll be marked down at the 15 yd line he's piled up 87 yds rushing he continues to impress as he leads the nation in rushing he put some heat on that one down the middle makes a catch down the right side and they'll do more than move the chains they'll move that thing more than 30 yards down the field before he's finally stopped they've crossed Midfield at the 45 with a first and 10 going back to the well another deep ball and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it brown wants to pass unloads to the Wi out right on the money to the outside he dragged the toe and how about the ball placement only the receiver could get it and the 49ers are marching down the field he'll come out throwing on first down got a man it's m and they do a really good job not as easy as it looks to get those blocks and he picks up the first down on the doorstep of cashing it in for the [Applause] offense back to the air one more time and it'll be in intercepted in the end zone and we know turnover margin is a huge part of winning ball games interception number two is quarterback has to do a better job taking care of the football Don't Force It take the high completion percentage stuff don't always try to go for the big play and the pressure was too much they get him at the 15 and anytime you hit the quarterback man you make him think you speed up the processor a little bit and that's the third on the day this is unit actually that does a good job of that they're in the top 25 in the country at getting the quarterback on the ground and good coverage by the defense just a short game not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 look you can't take away everything right so you give them that and rally and make a solid tackle yeah and a lot of times in zone coverage I like when I can get all the eyes on the quarterback I like when I can see the routes and see them devel middle and you could tell they had keys on the tight end he wasn't going anywhere after he caught that football hand goes into the air for the fair Catch and the catch is made around the 40 Charlotte has the ball back the 49ers offense will return to the field that last possession a prime example Jesse of how things get condensed in the Red Zone hard to throw when the windows are smaller that's what happens down near the goal line David but for this quarterback here just take accountability and ownership and come out here lead your eyes and move on like we needed points that's something that we can harp on we'll watch the tape this week and they couldn't hold off the heat and he goes down with a sack the 49ers come to the line in the hurry up and they've been waiting for something good to happen with respect to getting after the quarterback right they're outside of the top 100 in the country in sacks per game but finally now you see their generating this pass rush three sacks on the game so far this is a third and [Applause] long to the ground with the back and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down there's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half the offense will stay out there to go for it on fourth down again they're three for four so far in this one trying to get to him and they got him a sack denies to try to convert on fourth down well I knew the coach was confident in his offense I did not know he was that confident this early in the game fourth and long I thought he just punt that one away and let his defense take the field interesting off the play fake on first down a shot toward the end zone balls incomplete and he did everything perfectly except catch the football second down coming couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again wide out in motion back to throw it's Warner he'll take another shot here and that one is picked off in the end zone and after the interception and the turnover this defense has set its offense up for business that's number that's a good year for a lot of people what a day having two interceptions already I might try my hand on the other guy this guy is not somebody I want to mess with unloads to the right how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion I think the quarterback's got to do a better job with his eyes guys he's already been picked off twice in this game and that one got swatted away he's telegraphing where he's throwing the football and it's making life really hard on him got got it set up on the outside they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some lanes for their running back it's first and 10 from the [Applause] 31 quarterback changing the plays at the line to the air on first down fires to the big fella and the defense had that one well covered just a short game there must be nice for this quarterback knowing he's got this type of athlete playing the tight end position that can work the middle of the field form he's a guy who can stretch it vertically as well but this is a guy the QB will look for early and often in this game dialing up a second down pass play going to try to get it himself turns it on at Midfield finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down this guy just gives you nightmares I mean he's just got so much elect try he just pulls it down and chews up yards like it's nothing that's a quarterback a quarterback doing that to your defense throws to the tight end he's got an open man he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense yeah and the quarterback knew exactly where he wanted to go with the football had time spins the ball deep nice job by this offense understanding what the defense is giving them and create an explosive threat can't find his man as he took a shot trying to deliver that football and it'll be second down doesn't take this defense a lot of time to get to the quarterback man they've got speed all over the place they hit him so quickly and because of that the ball Falls incomplete finds his man it's m and the defense holds firm no pick up at all on that play well the offense is trying to get a big time playmaker the ball out in space quickly with the wide receiver screen but the defense is having none of it on Third and long trying to have a looking for the end zone and it's incomplete as he was trying to finish the drive with a score they'll try to get something out of this drive and kick the field goal here on fourth down that is no good had a chance to make this lead 20 but we're still on a 17 time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half on the run it's Connors just searching and working for the Running Room as he gets it out to the 26 that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin in our halftime update all right fellas the end of a very entertaining first two quarters of football in Houston these two defenses have really been up to the task so far and it's hard to ignore how each of these two secondaries have impacted things they've stayed true to their assignments covering each receiver like a blanket and you know what else they've done they've wrapped up and tackled and with that let's send it back to the guys inside historic rice Stadium thanks for that halftime report Kevin rice ready to kick off and get things started here in the second half and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Charlotte will send the offense back onto the field as they get ready to start this third quarter think how big the lead might be if they' taken care of the ball well the game might be over ree but if you're on defense right now you've gotten a couple turnovers early and you're saying okay we're going to need to keep this up we got to stay aggressive for us to have a chance to win this game but we believe we can do it yeah you you've already done it so of course you're going to believe it keep playing fast keep playing physical and then tell your offense hey we need a little help over here like can you help us out and put some points on the board nothing but green ahead and they are pushing the ball down the field a big pick up on that one and the tackle is finally made and with that one he's now over three three bills for the game and there's two reasons why Rees he's made good decisions and he's been accurate throwing the football all game long passes sticks him still on his feet he now has 106 yds on the ground and just another day at the office for the national leader in Russia and the 49ers will snap it on First and 10 I think a big key in this team's success today has been their ability to run the football they've been able to just hand it off and go churn out yards they've had this defense on their heels all game long it's given them a big cushion in this game so far let's see if they can keep it up solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six trying play action nowhere to go with the ball and down he goes at the 39 when it's a playaction pass that quarterback he really has to sell the Fate he can't tell his offensive lineman's getting beat right away while he's selling the he had no shot setting up the screen defense was not fooled by that screen to the back and they'll stop him short of the marker it'll be fourth down and he just continues to put up numbers and that number is now over 300 this guy just throws completions man the ball doesn't seem to touch the ground he's back there he's making the right reads right now he is locked into what this defense is trying to do can't hook up on the long throw and fourth down goes by the ls for this offense they've got the Big Fellas out there a three tight end look on First and 10 on the run it's Conor he maybe gets a yard they'll Mark him at the 29 I never know if it's grammatically correct to say A team's being out physical you hear it a lot in football though that's happening in this game they are just not getting the push they need all game long up front to have any success when they decide to run it just feeds the running back got up for the first out across the 30 to the 39 after getting 10 on that one rice rushes to the [Applause] line give to the running back and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up a lot of urgency for this offense fast motion from the offense try to get the edge with a quick touch pass the defense wouldn't let him lose there and it was a completion but they lost yardage and this offense just has to find a way to convert this third down or else they are really in trouble unloads it left he makes a catch and they exploited that soft spot and they get it down to the 35 this rice offense has a nice looking drive going well how about the offense setting that play up we've seen earlier in the game a couple shorter throws they're just trying to suck those safeties closer to the line of scrimmage anticipating that they would get an opportunity to take a shot they called the perfect play at the perfect time right there didn't get much on first down it's second and nine they'll keep it on the ground won't back down from anyone delivers the blow and gets it to the 29 when running backs Square their shoulders up it's when they have the most power you see them Square his shoulders up break tackles be strong continue to plow his way forward just making it really easy another interception is Fourth of the day takes it the other way inside the 30 the 10 touchdown Charlotte how about that D coming up with a play like that what a play by this defense with the pick six and how about the defender exactly what you're supposed to do breaks on the football makes the interception everybody on defense we turn to offense go lay some blocks so my guy can get it and take get back to the house they'll try to add another to their lead the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead and let's check in with Kevin Conor's in the studio Kevin boys if it's happening in college football we've got eyes on it check this out appalachin state is ahead in this one and we've seen this program pull off some incredible wins over the years but they're not there yet they're up scared I don't just cover guys I make tackles theyy bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one that back had nowhere to go the defensive line ate up the blocks but how about the linebacker swarming in coming in and making a great play on the ball carrier this defense is kept them backed up now one more stop and they can get off the field on Third and long off play action trying to burn this defensive back and they almost had another one rare is the occasion when you're happy to see fourth down but it's better than throwing another pick rice will be forced to send out the punt unit he's getting a lot of work fourth time he's punted tonight no return coming he'll call for the fair catch Charlotte has the ball back the 49ers offense will return to the field boy that last Drive they had a chance to put three on the board and passed this one needs to be productive David I I got no problem with aggressiveness it was a pretty decent drive this offense isn't fully clicking yet they need to get in a little better Rhythm and they need to capitalize on those scoring opportunities and they've got the weapons to do that too David they've got guys that can make plays in space they need to focus on them and get them the ball this drive from inside the 40 at the 37 it's first down easy they're going to ride this running back and a pick up of eight opens a world of opportunities on second and two you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense they're trying to get to it nowhere close on that one as he got drill trying to deliver the football and now they face third down and now let's see if the offense can bail itself out after the second down missfire they'll try to drive ahead on Third and short the 49ers get enough for the first down yeah and this offense doing more of what they do this this is the number one offense in the country in first down they find a way to continue to move the football run pass so much balance this offense is so good they get him down but this offense is set up first and goal from the nine looks as if we have injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him [Applause] out and the 49ers are threatening on first and [Applause] goal quarterback reacting to what the D is showing Brown will throw it lets it Fly touchdown Charlotte and the punishment has been extended if these guys wanted to make a statement stat has been delivered it's your job to stop him oh don't run the score up well do something about it defense has to step up and make plays obviously they're not willing to do that so just keep running plays and keep scoring about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown R here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 rice has the ball back and they're ready to send the offense back to the field boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really click no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on this drive he almost picked up the first down on that one but he'll be just a little bit short well and on these little push passes timing is so important you're trying to snap it right as he's getting a full head of steam when he gets the ball he's hitting the outside and David it puts the defense in such a difficult spot you immediately have to be rotating when you see that motion so everybody's got to communicate and kind of bump over that's why offenses love to run it just it makes the defense communicate and see if you can just get him out of his mou rice going to work with another first and 10 they're getting this guy lathered up they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one that DB had a different story he had something to say coming up making a physical tackle moving the running back forcing the defense to adjust makes the grab over the middle he's brought down solid pick up but a little bit short of the first down really good job working through his progression you get it to him quickly and the big tight end has a chance to run a little and a really good job by the QB throwing an accurate throw I I got to hit those guys on the Move On The Run so they can do this they can catch the football get up field and chew up some extra yards and the owls are rolling down the field well look that wasn't a touchdown but that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the back they'll try again on second down after the incompletion he'll keep it himself they could have used a little bit more there pick up of three it's third and seven well the QB decided to keep it on that one and listen if you had his athleticism you'd want to keep it too almost every time they run these types of option plays but he's just going to have to do a good job of understanding when to hand it off when to pitch it try to keep this defense on their heels and read his keys he's got a lot of talent just got to make sure he's making the right decisions moving forward from the shotgun the hand off to the back not much there on the Run he gets one to the 31 didn't get much on first down it's second and nine secondary walks up on the line showing press coverage the play action F and the ball comes out what a disastrous play defense just cradling that fumble and securing it and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for its own and the quarterback just ran out of time there and they were able to knock it free quarterbacks have got to do a great job keeping two hands on the football especially in passing situations like that because you know Defenders are swatting at the ball even if you can't see them these guys they are 65 six they've got long arms they're trying to rip and tug away and get that ball out of your hands that QB will learn from this play he's got to do a better job with this fundamentals Brown wants to pass that's a really good tackle there giving up some size and still making the play if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of [Applause] momentum trying to move the sticks on third down through the air and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down oh and those are those where you're just looking at your hands left hand right left hand right hand dang it I should have caught that nice Play Break on the football that could have been a house call that could have been a game changer but just couldn't secure the interception on fourth down he'll try to toss it with the catch it's Olen and he will be stopped short or stop himself short of the line to gain what was he thinking there first down here for the offense motion from the offense quick touch pass to the receiver nice solid form tackle from this sophomore and these little touch passes man they're just the easiest completions ever for quarterbacks Palmer I bet you would have loved being able to just Flip It Forward that counts as to your completion percentage which is good and then it's all run after the catch so pretty easy for a QB you wouldn't have been the only allamerican in this booth game if I were allowed to have Push passes when I was playing quarterback touchdown out that is the ultimate grab and go for the score man how hard is it to defend when you have a weapon like this at running back that can play wide receiver you can design way to get the football in his hand Palmer once you get in his hands he'll do the rest yeah no doubt I mean and often times those are easier throws for quarterbacks and these running backs they're just naturally so good when they have the football out in space their Vision their creativity their ability to make people miss and this guy showed you right there a difficult difficult guy to stop now if you're this defense moving [Applause] forward here comes the offense on first down he wants to start this drive with a pass fires to the wide out incompleted man is he lucky to get that one back defense that close to an interception and that is the play the defense needed to turn the momentum around in this game they needed somebody to step up and make a play that should have been intercepted Brown will throw it unloads to the wide out sof spot in the middle works his way to the 41 and that is plenty to give him a first down and I love when you understand when I'm supposed to put some RPMs on that football you can tell he's thrown over the middle of the field he knows he's got Defenders there I got to throw this thing in there quick fast in a hurry nice job by the quarterback shakes off the defender he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down it's so important this off is able to get this guy the ball in space especially on the perimeter of the field and I love that last play call because he's able to get outside and use his speed to me that's where this guy is most dangerous and they wrap him up but not before he's got enough for the first down that is a time honored way to slow down the rush hit him with the screen and a chunk play yeah such a great job cuz you're flying up the field to get to the quarterback cuz everything looks like pass down the field let those guys get up the field for right behind him he does a little bit of the rest making some moves getting up field making the big play one more quar to play it might be unlikely but hey it's college football comebacks happen running back searching for a hole you'll take this every time five yards on the first down play man that's the advantage of having a good coaching staff that teach these players in this type of situation with the lead late in the game you want to stay in the field of play and keep the clock ticking they do that after that nice [Applause] run out of the gun they'll run it inside makes the tackle right at the 21 yd line pick up of 10 on the play and this offense is threatening with a first down the 49ers come to the line with a new set of downs firing to the end zone touchdown ners and The Stomping has commenced that one ought to give them firm control with this game and they have gotten things going here about to move to four and one and this offense continuing to put up points this game's out of reach you know you're going to win but still throwing the football still finding that connection I imagine there'll be some salty handshakes at the end of this game he'll try to tack on one more exra and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further we check in with Kevin Conor
