welcome to Murphysboro Tennessee and Johnny red Floyd Stadium home of the Middle Tennessee blue Raiders and Raider fans have been clamoring to get this one started all week and boy do we have a fun one ahead top 10 team Target on their back going on their Road and right into the snake pit as we'll see the number five team in the country the Old Miss Rebels taking on a team from Conference USA say the Middle Tennessee blue Raiders for EA Sports college football I'm ree Davis joined here in the booth by David poock and Jessie Palmer and guys let's get this thing started the kickoff team takes the field to boot this one [Applause] away from inside the 10 here he comes he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 so oh miss offense will get the first possession of the game and here's the man they rally around and he has earned that type of respect David are you dang right you earn it by doing it and he's done it at such a high level everyone believes in this young man and Palmer there's a reason why you're right David he's been in the big moments and he's won the big games this guy delivers when the game is on the line I like feeding my guy I like getting my running back touches feeding the ball so he can break some of those big runs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced and the rebels racing to the line in the hurry [Applause] up looking for space it's Amos at the 35 he's loose good solid pickup on that one they've got it out to the 40 and it's first down when you go on the road man oh man you love hearing the crowd but more importantly you love shutting the crowd up there's no better feeling than coming out getting that juice going getting that confidence going and getting that running game going right at him and gashing him right out the gates wants to throw on first down off the play fake and it's incomplete if you're going to take a hit like that you might as well hang on to the ball not many receivers like to get hit they just don't okay they're Pradas that's what they are that's who they are nice job by the defender you could tell he was catching the football he was going to put a hit on him to make sure he had to think about something later and you could see the ball pop out and fall to the ground it's a draw he had all kinds of company as soon as he got and he had to fight his way back just to get to the line of scrimmage great job a contained by this defense and in order to do that the end man on the line of scrimmage defensively has got to be able to set the point and force the football back into traffic and that's exactly ly what happened there here they come facing third and long from the 40 they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and the defense was locked in you could tell they saw it they reacted right away got the running back on the ground [Applause] immediately the rebels will line up to punt it away this will be their first punt of the afternoon they'll get down and put a stop to the return at about the 28 yd line so middle Tennessee's offense will have its first possession of the game a first down for the [Applause] offense they're going to test the right side with this one he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple listen I know there are a lot of DBS out there that all they want to do is get interceptions and dance in the end zone this dude likes to put his face and the fan get close to the line of scrimmage and tackle and on the opening drive that he's out there he gets a huge tackle for loss early that is a statement play from the gun the ground game they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and a great job by the linebacker you could tell starting to crowd the the line of scrimmage get up there in the line of scrimmage see it diagnose it get in the back field get the running back on the ground for the tackle for the loss and the running game has collapsed so far on this drive and now it's third down looking to throw it's battiato and the pressure gets there and down he goes at the 18 man you talk all week about setting the tone quieting this crowd don't let him get involved you know how you do that get a sack and force a punt on the first possession of the football game that's a heck of a start for this defense the punt team makes its way onto the field doesn't say much for your drive when you're looking forward to the punt and good work by the coverage team to not Down The Return Man Old Miss ready to send the offense onto the field they hope to be able to cash in on this drive David after having to punt it last time yeah and I think this offense needs to start it with the first play you need to be successful and productive on that first play and it gets you in less predictable situations no doubt too and don't you just feel like there's a little bit more sense of urgency on this drive it just feels like they've got to be able to put some points up on the board here and the rebels moving quickly to the the line from the gun the running back has it defense there to stop him after a gain of three but he is inside the 30 to the 29 all right well the offense here they're trying to get this run game established they obviously don't break off a long run there but they're just trying to find their footing at this point got three on first down it's second and seven leaves it with the running back they make the stop but he got work done on the ground picking up six to the 23 hey five to six yards a pop I don't know if you guys are really good at math but that usually equals a first down every couple carries so don't forget about the Run game keep them honest pound that rock trying to pick up a first [Applause] down we've reached the end of the first quarter and it has been a defensive battle and the stats tell the tal so far let's see if the offenses can find a little rhythm here in the second headed to the line at the 23 trying to convert this third and short he'll do it himself slammed to the ground but not before he gets the first down such an advantage when you have an athletic quarterback today in college football because they can help you move the sticks with their legs great open field running ability by this QB the rebels are on the move from the gun they'll try to impose their will they knock him down right there that's a great individual play and I love cornerbacks that don't just take pride in covering guys I like guys that like to put their face in the fan and affect the running game this dude is physical and he impacts the defense because of that and those guys are really hard to find a lot of Corners they're smaller they don't want any part of the physical run game nice job sticking his facing there setting the edge making the tackle scanning the field it's D zings it complete to the right and he cruises his way to the house touchdown oh miss and what a nice start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in a rhythm nice start for this offense lining up to tack one more onto that lead and he's got the extra point and it's seven nothing to start this one so that scoring Drive took only six plays and the Capper a 19 yd toss for the touchdown the kickoff team out there set to boot it [Applause] away returner will field it and try to get some field position nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 let's see what the blue Raider offense can get going out of the gun they give to the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple you see all this movement in football now all the stemming the defensive line they're sliding right before the snap creating confusion for the offensive line then they're moving back and stunting really good job by the defense continue to move continue to stunt continue to get in the back field and make this life hard on this running back off the bootleg wants to throw it quarterback now breaking the field able to get just a few before sliding to avoid the hits well great job there by the defense because they weren't able to get him sacked right away but you saw the coverage in the back end nowhere for the quarterback to throw the football didn't get the sack obviously you don't get the negative play but you also don't give up a big one you're feeling pretty good about where you are right now in this drive let's see what they do on third down they'll try to run for it they thought they could just run it on Third and short but this defense was there to make the stop you got to have that defense you know you can go to in running situations your base defense where you say okay this is where I'm going to start and I'm going to stop the run stuff it up front my guys play Big up front then if I need to add some blitzes to it later on down the road I can but great job in the base defense making a play fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way makes a move looking for Running Room he'll get it to the 43 yd line before he stops y Miss offense ready to go back to work and David how they would love to stick it in the end zone one more time after that last drive and once you get the defense on their heels and you back them off a little bit you get in a little bit of Rhythm it's really hard to stop Jesse and they're going to try to do it again right here and if you're this play caller you're loving what's happening right now because everything you dialed up on that last Drive ended up working out you're just looking at your play sheet everything you're picking is working let's see if they can pull it off again here hand off from the gun shakes off the defender it's the two minute warning and we'll see if the offense can tack a little something extra on their lead before the [Applause] break from the 44 yd line the offense snaps it on first [Applause] down looking to move it through the air quickly to the tight end he's brought down solid pickup but a little bit short of the first down just a quick Rhythm throw there and really good use of the tight end yeah good use of the big fella I mean go through your progressions real quick you can't find anything get the easy gain don't take a shot down the field all the time take those shots later but take those easy wideopen opportunities to get some positive chunks and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains this offense is clicking and clearly everything thing is working the offensive coordinator is calling good plays the quarterback and his unit is executing and this defense right now they have no answers and the rebels have it with a first and 10 he's looking to throw it and he got smacked just as he released the pass it's incomplete well this defense felt coming into the game that if he was going to try to throw from the pocket they could get to him and affect his accuracy and they did on that last play after the quarterback and receiver failed to hook up they'll try it again on second [Applause] down back to pass it's Dart the throw to the outside is complete and the defense settled in to stop that one for a short gain I love the anticipation on that throw by the QB on the out route you got to throw it before the receiver comes out of his break nice work they've moved it to the 25 but now facing a third and long from the gun wants to pass makes the grab it's Amos he's run out of bounds but he's got enough to move the sticks that is going to drive this defensive coordinator nuts a lot of DCs they focus a ton of energy on how their unit performs on third down and in the Red Zone if this defense gives up a couple more third down conversions like that they are going to be in for a very unpleasant film session on Monday from the Red Zone looking for a man makes the grab it's Harris they'll get it down to the8 yd line on that throw and catch and the defense is backed up against the wall quick timeout called by the offense after the play the rebels have it with a first and [Applause] goal he's looking to pass pocket starts to collapse and the quarterback caught up two and sacked at the 12 quick timeout from the offense to save precious seconds defense roll up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming he's looking to throw snagged on the outside it's priest corn must be nice for this quarterback knowing he's got this type of athlete playing the tight end position that can work the middle of the field form he's a guy who can stretch it vertically as well but this is a guy the QB will look for early and often in this game they've gotten pushed back but is still third and goal to throw it's Dart they're bringing heat just had to get rid of that one to save the yardage on third down nice job by the defense they're mixing up their look they third and long in field goal range they go Zone coverage so everybody on the back end has the eye on the quarterback and they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion and they'll have to settle for a field goal [Applause] try and it's no good and the margin is still seven after the Miss guys well that's one the kicker would like to have back that's a kick he should be making in his sleep the Middle Tennessee offense will go back to work now they're backed up here Jesse wonder how aggressive they're willing to be I think it's going to come down to how much confidence they have in this quarterback and his decision making because you cannot throw an interception at this part of the field with this little time left and I think that's conversations you've had with a young fell on the sidelines being like what did you comfortable with right here that we can run maybe stay aggressive but make sure I don't make that mistake now on second and short after the first down completion from the gun give on the inside One Step WRA two-step squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connor in our halftime update guys who's got a better seat there in Murphreesboro than you do a captivating game so far and it's been said football is a game of inches and guess what based on the comparison between third down conversion rate today and the average yard per play how can you argue that I mean the low-lying fruit is to look at some of the explosive plays we've seen and panic but really this game is going to come down to which team is more efficient when they have the ball and how they play when it matters most and with that let's send it back to the to the guys at Floyd [Applause] stadium and the rebels will line up to kickoff and start the second half he'll start the return inside his five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 let's see what the Raider offense can get going after the lack of production in the first half plenty to talk about let's see what they can dial up here in the third quarter yeah I I think you stay calm I think you make adjustments Jesse I think you realize what they're doing to us and how can I attack that but you also tell the guys low scoring game still very much in this we can still be who we are it's a good point I think on offense this is not the time to reinvent the wheel I think you stay true to who you are and what your identity is and you've got to show confidence in your guys to go out and just execute better here in the second half they're testing the right side here at the 45 on his way and he was loose and not stopped until he gets to the 47 yd line well the defense knew coming into this one Reese that this team was going to try to use their speed and take advantage of it and they did right there nice gain on the Run play to the right found plenty of Running Room in that defense they've got to find a way to get there make the the tackle in the open field yeah and they got to do a good job with their eyes finding the football and they've got to get a lot of bodies to this guy cuz he is fast might as well run him until they stop him he's got it again and he found plenty of Running Room on that one before the defense was finally able to get him down well right away after picking up a first down they go right back to their playmaker at running back and I love the push they got up front getting a hat on a hat opening a huge hole for the back and you become so hard to defend when you can run the football successfully on first down you're starting like that now what opens up play action now you're making me play pass and R throws toward the end zone and he's got it touchdown MTSU man really nice job attacking the middle of the field you see those safeties man I want to split them he splits it right down the middle throw that post right on the numbers catches the ball in the end zone [Applause] touchdown getting set for the point after and they did make the extra point and we have a tie ball game here in the third quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they finish it up with the final 30 yards coming courtesy of that touchdown pass all tied up and just about set to kick it [Applause] away here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Old Miss ready to send the offense onto the field and in a low-scoring game like this one David every possession is magnified and I think more than anything it just gets frustrating and you got to put that behind you you got to see what this defense has been doing to be so successful Paul now use it against him yeah David I think for a play caller this is tough right it's like you have to have the perfect play on just to get a first down in these types of games I think you're just trying to get guys out in space see if a dude can break a tackle maybe that generates an explosive play and it breaks this trend stopped at the 25 after a 5yd gain football is about adjustments first half line up pound strong pound strong second half great job you're going to move your defense and shift to try to count for that boom we'll pull some guys and run a counter back side and have some success the rebels in the hurry up they'll try to get it through the air caught near the sticks it's Watkins it's a fumble and the defense snatches it and they've reversed the field yeah these wide receivers are so fast nowadays they're such big Playmakers I just want to get it to them and let them make it happen but a lot of times we're running to them too we're focused on chasing him down and funneling the football in the right direction defense swarm did a good job getting their hand on the football causing the fumble from the wide receiver the Middle Tennessee offense will go back to work the sledding has been tough scores have been at a premium Jesse in every possession seems like it could switch the momentum of the game yeah Reese for this offense just feels like they just haven't been as physical and for this offensive coordinator David he's having to go deep into the Playbook just to try to generate a first down well and the good thing is there's not a ton of game pressure because the other side's not scoring either but if you can find that one thing that get that one positive play and then maybe you get those juices going and something can start to build wide receiver now comes in motion coming on first down with the play fake he's got him wide open he's brought down but he's got him inside the 10 first and goal from the eight and listen you get Zone coverage and you can hit that curl route and he comes open continually keep hitting it this might be a play to come back to New seter Downs right on the doorstep for this offense keeping it on the ground on on first and goal they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one man what a spectacular play by that defensive end to come up with the tackle there and you see those guys get off the football so fast most of these guys are 250 to 275 pounds but they get off the ball fast low and the offensive linemen they have no chance to stop those guys as quick and as fast as they are he'll run it up the middle trying to pick his way to the end zone brought down at the seven after picking up three it's looking like they're going to have to try to throw this one into the end zone here on third down David quarterback's got to be careful can't get greedy because you know these windows they close fast extremely tight Windows find your big body guys that you know can win in contested situations here on third down needs to get it in the end zone on Third and goal can't make the grab as he was looking for his man right at the goal line well I love the coverage on defense in the Red Zone everyone's got their eyes on the quarterback and they're flying to the football and you saw that there on the incompletion and on fourth down they'll try to salvage the drive with a field goal and the holder will spotted on the 14 for a 24 yd attempt it's good and that was dead solid perfect and with that field goal they now have the lead so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away and he takes this from inside the five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 we'll see see what they can do on this drive that starts at the 16 yd line snags it quickly on the left smashes through the tackle able to work it to the 39 yd line and that'll be a first down at the end of the quarter guys it's Middle Tennessee on top they've done the work to build a nice cushion now to bring it home as we check out the stats after three quarters [Music] one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the victory big play to start this drive now they'll snap it from the 39 pulls and fires complete they make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down you just got the feeling this defense is going to make it hard on them right they've got the lead it's late and they're going to try to tackle everybody in bounds offense is going to have to really work for this and be smart you got to attack the sidelines you got to throw first downs you got to keep this thing moving vertically down the field the give to the right and they try to run inside and there is nowhere to go yeah and this offense has to find a way to run the football they got to get more creative but whatever that looks like for this offense something to jump start them because nothing really going on the ground yeah defensively though you got to give them credit too because they knew that physically they were going to try to be challenged up front that was a big M Mo for this offense coming into it but the defense they've risen to the occasion their front seven has dominated this entire game they'll get the first down it's spotted on the 49 and I just love when guys know exactly where the sticks are you could tell ran with purpose finished through the sticks and got just enough for the first down and a nice job up front too right good communication everybody knew where they had to go had on a hat work the double teams and get some push the give to the running back from the shotgun and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pickup first down you know you always want to establish the running game how about this offense nothing fancy run the football be physical get a big game and the rebels are in the hurry up [Applause] some early movement along the offensive line and they'll walk it back the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty to the air it's Dart got his man on the right and they swarm him under when you play zone coverage and you got a wide receiver that's a beast it becomes very very difficult I got to make sure I play physical and maybe even shade the side of the wide receiver having a lot of success after that last completion it's second down looking for space it's Parish able to pick up a couple down to the 27 Here Comes third and short from the 27 this defense trying to make them settle for a field goal they'll try to pick it up on the ground got some room headed to the goal line touchdown Rebels and they grab the advantage taking the lead here in the fourth man I love this offense being able to run the football late in the game when it matters and punch it in for the touchdown and more importantly Take the Lead they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point is good and every Point counts it's now a fourpoint lead in the fourth about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown on the move from inside is five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 let's see what the blue Raider offense can get going looking for a man it's vattiato makes the grab down the middle and they finally haul him down but not before the good catch and run you got to give the o line a lot of credit there because it gave the receiver time to work all the way across the field on the drag route against Zone coverage quarterback gets it to him he's able to turn it up and get a first down now on First and 10 from the 29 he wants to throw quarterback adapting they'll wrap him up and he didn't find the same kind of Running Room this time as he did on the previous Play It's just so nice to have a QB under Center nowadays in football you can trust these guys you put so much on their plate and you tell them go get positive yards when it's there and a lot of these guys are such great athletes they do it with ease sprinting to the line to try to get this one off clock's running wants to fire on second down wide open downfield just gashing this defense a big Gainer to the 40 ydd line they immediately call timeout trying to preserve every second they can to try to rally here late he'll come out throwing on first down got him downfield quick timeout call by the offense after the play trying to preserve every minute possible and there was no question in that scenario that's where the quarterback was going he knew he had his receiver in a matchup that he liked running a route where he would find himself opening nice job between those two he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple linebackers have such an amazing responsibility got to play run got to play pass how about this seeing the Run aggressively getting downhill and getting in the back field and making the tackle for a loss after that last loss it's second and 12 he's looking to throw with the catch it's Willis they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down the offense gets a quick timeout at this point every second is precious they'd love to pick up this third down and get a fresh set with first and goal back to pass it's baato he caught it couldn't quite nudge it in not sure you could get much closer but it'll be first and goal really nice job there of the quarterback reading coverage he knew exactly where to go with the football and at what exact time the timing could not have been better they get the completion on third down setting up first and goal it's a first down they'll stop the clock to reset the chains offense Up Tempo and the offense just going to spike it here can the defense stop them again on second and goal he's looking to throw and that one's going to be incomplete I don't think he got a foot down along the back of the endzone well I know it hasn't been a tremendous day statistically for this quarterback but his decision making has been been good enough to win this game hasn't thrown a lot of TD so far but and let's hold on just a minute here as the officials are going to have a second look and the play will stand after the replay booth just does a little double checking to make sure on Third and goal they'll try to throw it in and if you're the defense right now you've given up some yards on this drive but you've got a possession lead you just need one more stop after that last incompletion setting up fourth down do you Blitz do you try to speed up the QB let's find out and watch and this could prove to be the biggest play of the game they'll go for it on Fourth and goal out of the gun looking to throw touchdown blue Raiders and in the final moments they've taken the lead and this offense really sh their physicality running the football when it matters in the fourth quarter in crunch time to take the lead in this football [Applause] game this one's big to make sure they can't beat you with a field goal and he knocks it through and the lead is a field goal here in the fourth quarter so a drive there of 82 yards and what a late touchdown in the final minute that is likely the game winner here they're lining up to boot it away he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 he's trying to get them quickly they have to get the ball into field goal range fires to the wide out right on the money to the outside he drag the toe and how about the ball placement only the receiver could get it they get the timeout and the clock reads three seconds to the air it's Dart he wants a big play here late Falls in complete they fought to the final whistle but that's going to do it for
