welcome to Lafayette Louisiana home to the ring cun of the University of Louisiana and the site of the Clash we have in store today what an exciting matchup we have in store for you this afternoon built around the pageantry tradition and everything that makes college football great as we'll see a squad from Conference USA the Kennesaw State owls taking on a team from the sunb belt the Louis IND raging cun for EA Sports college football ree Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer and guys can't wait to get this one [Applause] started kennol State ready to kick it off and get this game [Applause] going and he takes this from inside the five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 the Raging cajun's offense takes the field to start this game off when this guy comes onto the field David he seems to bring the it factor with him so much fun as a play caller to have a guy you depend on you trust you know Palmer you're going to get the best out of this young man he's also one of those guys David who just elevates everybody else around him right all 10 guys in that huddle offensively just seem to play better knowing they've got confidence in this guy man you see so many smart wide receivers so many smart tight ends nowadays that they know where the holes in those zones are and they work with their quarterback and they find them and they sit down in them and make big plays it's tough to sit back in zone against such smart players nowadays and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was not loose and third down is coming no and that's your goal separate man from ball try to get your shoulder in there on the catch point and really make give him something to think about physically jar that football and knock it out nice job by the defender third and six and they'll need a big play here on this opening drive pre- snap Motion in the back field and they can't make the connection on third down well they try to throw for it there on third down on the opening drive of the game they don't get it but let's punt the ball away let's trust our defense and guys let's also trust this home field advantage and the crowd to get loud and make it real difficult on our opponent and the Raging cents will try to pin them back with the punt having to kick it away after a three and out not what they had in mind looking for Running Room he'll get it to the 43 yd line before he stopped so the Kennesaw State owls offense will try to get something started with their first possession here are our impact players for this game and it goes beyond executing an assignment to make an impact in yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we asked them who needs to step up and play while they immediately after burner's coming a really nice run and gain and he gets down to avoid taking punishment and you're seeing here the difficulties defenses have trying to contain this guy if you leave a lane open or you don't sack him right away and you allow him to get outside the pocket he is going to take off and he is very difficult to tackle in the open field he's got running back likeability out in [Applause] Space the give out of the gun finds a crease at the 20 they finally get him on the ground but the big running play moves to change for the first down and that's all you want right you want that first down understand the situation understand I got to get North and South get a first down get a new set of downs inside the 15 first and 10 from the 14 they're looking to pass from the Red Zone and he's got it you don't give a hook kenas state does Touchdown owls yeah and a really nice job understanding I got to get to that Gap where there's a little bit of open space in the middle of the field when I run that post route QB lays it out for him and he catches it gets two feet in bounds in the end zone touchdown they'll try to add another to their lead and the extra point makes it seven nothing quick strike offense on that three-play scoring drive and they top it off with a 14 yd pass for the touchdown kickoff team lining up to send this one away on the run from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 here comes the Louisiana offense onto the field the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse he just had no rhythm in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run inside out forward back Wards get some first downs get some positive momentum they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three the give from the gun a collision and he stopped at the 27 after picking up one all right well the offense here they're trying to get this run game established they obviously don't break off a long run there but they're just trying to find their footing at this point they'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 27 they'll try to pick up the first through the air makes his connection and they reacted well to the completion but it was too late to keep him from getting the first down he knew the heat was coming he had to get rid of it in a hurry and he did so beautifully perfectly I don't need a big gain I don't need to hold on to this football because the longer I hold on to it with the blitz coming the worst things are going to happen I just need to few yards for the first down get out of my hand get the first down they'll throw it on first down caught in the back field it's Washington they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker well he comes up with the reception but not a lot of room to run after that yeah and I like the QB doing this I mean I'm going to find ways to give him the football and see if he can make a miss and I'm going to bet most of the time that my guy is a little bit more athletic than that defensive guy defense won this battle but I like trying to get this guy the ball in space well Jet Sweep pass tackled after picking up the first down and and just went with something very easy very reliable Flip It Forward let your receiver do the rest I only got to get a few yards nice job nice execution first down the Raging cun are moving quickly down the field from the gun running back on the Move continuing to turn and move it forward and they're closing in on Midfield it's down at the 48 it's just so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down after the productive first down play it's second and six power football with the run runs through The Tackle they'll stop him at the 41 but he's got 10 yards and they'll move the chains man that was a good run but it was almost even better great job by the offense keep the running game going you get big chunks Like This Not only was that a big chunk it also looked like it could have gone for more as they get set to snap it just about to reach the end of the quarter they'll leave it with him Powers through the defender and after the tackle that will bring us to the end of the first quar quarter at the end of the quarter it's Kennesaw State on top guys let's have a look at the stats as we've played one [Applause] period now to see if these guys can get back in the game in the second quarter got a little work done on first down now back to the line hands it off they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one I love this linebacker because he's able to dissect what's happening in front of him and he reacts downhill uses his speed to get to the line of scrimmage and create the negative play they want to continue this long drive ninth play coming it's third and five to the air it's Fields unleashes one and that's in complete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up well third and short in field goal range they dial up the pass play quarterback was trying to get through his progressions there was just simply nobody open couldn't make an accurate enough throw the ball Falls incomplete Now setting up a big decision here on fourth down now on fourth down they'll send out the field goal unit right down the boulevard it's good well that kid just showed off his hammer for a leg 50 plus and he did it with ease so after the last Drive ended with a field goal the kickoff team out there to send it away on the move from inside is five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the six guys we're about to see this Kennesaw State offense go back to work fires left a strip downfield and he's brought down at the 40 yd line and that'll be a first down man the tight ends are one of the most versatile guys in the field and you see it right here the play action they're used to blocking right now they slip right by the linebackers slip to the second level come open the quarterback finds them in great Rhythm after that big gain or to open things up they'll put it in play from the 40 pulls it in it's Moss it's definitely the wide receiver's job to create space right so whether you're running a go or you're running a hitch like this right here I got to find a way to push off legally or just create a little bit of space to get some positive yards after that last completion it's second down fast motion from the offense touch pass on the Jet Sweep and they make the tackle but he has plenty for the first down I love the idea and I love just finding ways to get your best players out in the open field this pre- snap motion and using it to their advantage on that last play I think that was a nice call kenesa State coming out with another first down Ed the play fake now to throw and the catch along the sideline will come up a little short of the first down guys out of the back field now it's not just run the ball downhill anymore you got to be versatile I got to be able to trust you in the pass game and I got to be able to throw you the football and you can do that right there I know you're going to catch it and I can depend on you little bit more to go after that last completion they'll try to pick it up on second down trying play action outside the pocket lets it go oh so close to paying off the tip drill he had it in his hands but it falls incomplete great job on the back end in coverage DB staying in the hit pocket of the Target and was able to swat that ball away that last incomplete pass has him staring at a third and three it'll be a run on Third and short and with that the Chain Gang will get busy first down Kennesaw State and this is a guy that can find you the hidden yardage that play he just pushes is the pile to get that first down they'll snap it from the 34 on First and 10 used the play fake now to throw looking to the big tight end it's caught downfield put it right on him sweet play good pickup and they'll move the change with the first down and this has got to be so demoralizing for this this defense right now having given up multiple first downs on this drive somebody on defense has to step up make a play and stop the bleeding from the 17 yd line threatening to score on First and 10 wants to throw it's Bryson short throw to the sideline is complete and he's out of bounds after picking up a couple a nice job by the defense there tackling the catch and SM in the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do and the short completion brings up second down swings it out to his running back and he is going to lose yardage nowhere to run as he is forced out of bounds how about the job in recognition by the defense they knew exactly what they were trying to set up and they had multiple Defenders surround ing that intended target so that there was nowhere for him to go once he caught the ball ninth play of the drive coming up but this one will be tough third and long it's complete on the right side we've got a timeout here late in the first half and they'll try more points on the board before the break man and that's just making it way too easy on the defense they're laughing at that short throw they're like really okay we'll just make an easy tackle and Jog our punt return team out on the field you're going to make it that easy for us they'll try on the ground and he's sprinting he'll take it all the way touchdown Kennesaw State and this running back is so dangerous down close to the end zone he's got wiggle he's got great vision and burst and he showed all of those attributes right there [Applause] they'll try to attack one more on their score and the extra point is good and they have an 11-point lead so an 82 yd drive there and it was capped off with the eight- yd run about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown he'll bring it back from inside as five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Louisiana has it back and the Raging cinjun offense headed to the field they'll come out on this drive and let it rip quickly complete and there were no creases or crevices to run through and they shove him out of bounds hey I'll tell you what that slot receiver he may not be the biggest receiver in the world but he is Shifty and he runs really good routes you saw it on that play still some work to do after that last completion it's second down to the air it's Fields finds a soft spot in the middle good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch well they pick up the first against Zone coverage I think a big part of this for young quarterbacks out there is if you're going to be throwing into Zone coverage you got to throw on time you can't stare down receivers because the entire defense has their eyes on you so you can't Telegraph where the ball's going you've got to hold it to the very last possible second try to freeze Defenders with your eyes and then throw the ball into open areas of the field anticipating where your guy is going to be that defense got gashed but they finally get him to the turf at the 47 finally this offense starting to show a little juice they've got a first and 10 he's going to pass makes a connection finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down I'll tell you what that's great execution between the QB and receiver they look like they could execute that throw in their sleep quarterback took his steps threw it on time great route by the receiver nice job securing the catch and the Raging cents will snap it on First and 10 throws to the wide out out he's got it and he will score touchdown Louisiana and I tell you what that passing touchdown man that should spark this whole team like The Comeback is more than on now like they got the touchdown they cut into the lead you you want to get a stop and go into the half get all the juices all the excitement and be like listen the passing game's rolling we got this The Comebacks in full effect [Applause] ready to try the point after and the Pat will draw them one point closer a very efficient five playay scoring drive and they cap things off with a scoring toss from 27 yards out they got the late touchdown on the board now about to kick it away and hoping the defense can keep them from answering here he comes from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 guys we'll get another look at this Kennesaw State offense got it in the middle it's Kent and he might be known for run fits but that was a sure and heavy tackle on the tight end the offense will stop the clock and use one of its timeouts line getting set on second [Applause] down to the air it's Bryson quickly complete quick timeout call by the offense after the play and how about that the dying breed of the tackling cornerback you don't see those anymore everybody wants to be great in coverage everybody wants to get picks but how many corners really want to get their face in the fan and make tackles nice job by that play he'll make a play on third down he's got enough for the first as they mark it at the 32 they wanted to get the ball to the tight end and they've already done it five times and we're not even to the half I'm about to say mission accomplished that's what they want to do take advantage of the matchup right zoner man I like my big fella I like using the tight end all I can great job working him into the offense he's a playmaker find him with a first down they'll snap it from the 3 two looking to move it through the air just had to get rid of that one good job to avoid the [Applause] loss now on second down [Applause] after the incompletion they go back up top takes his shot he's got him wide open ripped off a huge chunk play on that one as he gets the first down before he steps out of bounds and that's why this guy's a complete running back he's good between the tackles he can pass block but he can also run routes and we're not just talking about screens or swing routes this guy gets vertical down the field and he can run the route tree and it's first down but they'll try the field goal in the closing seconds of the first half knocked it right through showing that big range from 48 yards out [Applause] so they get the late field goal right before the half and not much time after this kickoff for an answer from inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position and the return man showing great vision to be able to find some space and put his team in much better field position and as we wind down here in the first half the offense will just take a knee and try to muster its forces for the second half attack as they Trail going to the break we've played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halftime update all right guys looks like we've got a great atmosphere today in Lafayette and I get it a lot of coaches will say the difference between winning and losing comes down to stopping big plays and getting big plays but if you ask me it's more about how good you are on third down and how efficient you are in keeping drives alive those two stats can help you break the will of even the best defenses and help you come out on top and with that let's send it back to the phyas inside our lady of Lord Stadium he'll start the return inside as five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 guys we're about to see this Kennesaw State offense go back to work they keep it on the ground to open the third a knock him down after a gain of three to the 23 small gain I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot of this got three on first down it's second and seven they'll Run play action pressure coming and the heat gets there and they get him down at the 14 yd line I think going into halftime trailing this defense knew that they were going to have to start making plays here in the second half and early in the third quarter here on this drive they get a sack that is really good news for this defense you make up the game plan and not a lot on the play sheet for this third and long from inside their own 20 dropping back it's Bryson he'll throw it finds his back in the middle and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop really good job by the defense understanding third down the situation of the game I play a little bit deeper take away the sticks react to Shorter I got to go get him on the ground now nice job making the tackle but playing the down and distance first and now forcing a fourth down fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way he's got great speed he was able to get that ball up to the 48 yd line before he stopped on the return here comes the Louisiana offense onto the field they go to the ground you'll take four yards on first down every time second and six it's a nice game but the big theme Here is they just haven't been able to get the Run game going on offense they've been very one-dimensional they're just not being physical enough at the point of attack the Raging cun are in the hurry [Applause] up wants to throw on second down good timing on the quick out and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains well you can tell those two have been practicing the out route all offseason long they look like they could have completed that in their sleep this offense will snap it from the 42 on First and 10 from the shotgun they'll run it they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one you know defensively you live by the Blitz and you die by the blitz that time they dialed it up into the Run play and the linebacker able to make a nice tackle lost one on that last one it's second and 11 off play action always a welcome play for the defense as they get a sack at the 47 when it's a play action pass that quarterback he really has to sell the FI he can't tell his offensive lineman's getting beat right away while he's selling the fake he had no shot this is a third and long he's looking downfield to throw nowhere to go and the ball is loose oh and he gets the ball back lucky to do so I guess it could have been worse well ball security doesn't just apply to running backs and receivers QB's got to keep two hands on the ball as well and they're very lucky after that fumble that the offense jumped on it and the Raging Cajun line up to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away he won't be able to return this one as it goes out of bounds guys we'll get another look at this Kennesaw State offense they missed an opportunity to extend this lead the last time they had it Jesse yeah they got to be able to regain that momentum right go back to what was working earlier on in this one and David to me that starts with being the more physical team no I definitely agree being the more physical team but understanding the situation of the game you're still still winning you got the football back now put a nice drive together and execute now on second [Applause] down they'll go to the ground and he's down at the 41 that's a first down all right defense that's that's what we can't do we can't give up this many chunk yards on the ground got to commit more guys to the line of scrimmage got to get those running backs on the ground that's way too easy offense goes on the attack on First and [Applause] 10 might as well give it to him again that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle [Applause] there at the end of the quarter it's Kennesaw State on to they've built a cushion they've got a nice lead now the task is finish the deal as you take a look at the third quarter stats not only is the scoreboard on their side but so too is time as we open the fourth hand off to the lone back draged down to the turf but not before getting the first down it's a point in the game I think as a coaching staff where you really challenge your offensive line to go win the football game right we've got to lead late we're going to run the football and the defense and everybody in the stadium knows that's what's going to happen can we run the ball down their throats and impose our will that's what this offense right now is trying to do hey bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one I love when you start bringing linebackers up near the line of scrimmage and you start sending them because those guys have serious speed they can come catch anybody up and down the line of scrimmage the linebacker you could tell he had a good clue what was going on he knew it was a run play fired pulled the trigger came downhill and attack the running back the give to the back he picks up four that'll leave them with third and six I know the passing game sells and the passing game is exciting but it's not exciting to get five or six yards a pop on the ground but it will be very successful and if you didn't know this was a big play the crowd is telling you a huge third down looking to throw it's Bryson he's got it and he's going to be just short of the first down it's going to bring up a decision for this coach that's why as a defense you feel okay playing man coverage on third down because you know you've got linebackers and you've got players on your defense that can cover these dangerous running backs mono imano nice job t Ling in the open field fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way able to keep them from getting a return and the ball goes out of bounds they're going to mark it right around the 20 the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty they'll try to keep this clock moving on the ground just does not like to be tackled discarding guys and getting to the 21 at this point of the game the offense has the lead the offensive coordinator knows they want to keep running the football so he's going back he's looking at his playlist and he's saying which runs work the best for me in this game what can I lean on right here to make sure we win this one clock continues to run and they'll be happy to wind it all the way down before they snap it wide receiver coming across in motion he's got it again he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three and how about the timing of the linebacker on the blitz to get in the back field and get the tackle for loss is there anything better for a linebacker than to run on a blitz and nobody's home except the back such a great feeling when when the Moses Parts the red SE and the hole opens up and you go fill it we've reached a two-minute warning in this offense trying to milk the this clock and keep time on their side here they come up to the 23 yd line not thinking field goal wanting to convert this third and short to throw it's Bryson and he just throws it away that is not what you're looking for on third down fourth down coming up after that incompletion on Third and short it's going to be an interesting decision for the head coach because I know he believes in his guys to go get it here on fourth down and Pad the lead but if you kick a field goal you make it a two-possession game here in the second half and I think that's the right decision never a doubt right down the middle and they'll push that lead out a little further you know it's funny in an age where there's so many college football analytics and everybody wants to go for it on fourth down at the end of the day it still comes down to managing the game good decision by the head coach here in the fourth quarter by kicking that field goal you've now made it a two- possession game your chances of winning this thing have now gone way up so they're lining up to kick it off after that last Drive put a three- spot on the board and now the defense will try to shut him down and he takes this from inside the five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 Louisiana has has it back and the Raging cun offense headed to the field unloads to the wide out it's complete the offense gets a quick timeout at this point every second is precious yeah and I tell you what when you stick these fast suckers in the slot they don't have to be big but you get those guys that are so quick in the slot they can get great matchups and I can get the ball to them quick because they're such Dynamic Playmakers couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again to the air it's Fields getting some heat and the pressure gets to him down goes the quarterback defensive linemen live to get after the quarterback to get sacks to get by those big hog up front on the offensive line and say you taste dirt they'll hurry to the line with the clock still running on Third and long he'll have to turn it loose deep catch in the middle it's Bernard plenty of room on that play and they find their way to the 36 quick timeout call by the offense after the play trying to preserve every minute possible looking to go up top on first down receiver looks it in it's complete defense makes a stop but the change move and it's first and goal from the eight man this offense is so dangerous Reese they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels the Raging cun racing to the line in the hurry up and they'll spike the ball to try to save as much time as they can defense rolls up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming he's looking to throw pocket starts to collapse oh and he almost picked that one off in the end zone instead it'll be third down well the defense is making some big plays here right up against their own goal line they forced two straight incompletions Now setting up Third Down You're Expecting pass again is this a situation where they're going to want to Blitz or did they stay back Play Zone and try to break on the ball looking to The End Zone on Third and goal and it's grabed for the late touchdown and and how about this it's not over yet and listen still a ways to go but great job by this offense getting you back in the ball game now we got a onep possession game we got our score we did what we're supposed to do now how do we get this stop now the defense has to come up big and get me the rock back [Applause] now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and it's up and good as they draw Just a Touch closer they go 83 yards on the drive and they finish things off with an eight- yd toss for the score just under 40 seconds to go and it's going to come down to whether they can get this onside kick to have a shot hey were ready for the onside kick and executed perfectly and they secure the football their work here is virtually done no need to take any more chances they'll line up in Victory formation [Applause] for for
