welcome everyone to Pitbull Stadium just outside Miami and the home of the FIU Panthers we are anxiously awaiting a battle as this fan base is ready to show everyone worldwide what FIU football is all about today we have one of those games that test your focus top 25 team against an unranked opponent can you take care of business as we'll see a squad from the back the Miami Ohio Redhawks taking on the 21st R team in the land the Florida International Panthers for EA Sports college football you a long side David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys can't wait to get this one started FIU will kick it off to get things underway and they thought about a return and thought better of it they'll bring it out to the 25 so the Miami red hog offense will take the first swing of the game here he comes and obviously a defense is always going to be aware of a quarterback but boy he finds a way to put defenses on their heels all the time David I mean what can't he do he's got the weapons he's got the confidence he's got the experience Jesse these kind of guys are so hard to defend you're right they better be able to find a way to get pressure on him because if they don't this is going to be a long day so the decision has been made and the coach will take the [Applause] penalty the offense lining up for a first down play back to pass it's Johns fires to the wide out oh what a spectacular layout in catch way in this drive and already out to the 41 it's first down enough from the shotgun they'll run it that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there yeah and the running back didn't get much here but you know you clearly want to always establish the tempo run the football be consistent make that defense physically meet the challenge keep it on the ground got a bunch and look close to getting a lot more but he's got the first down and the Red Hawks come to the line with a new set of downs they'll throw it on first down just too much of a rush and down goes the quarterback just behind the Midfield strie at the 49 a first down sack can be a drive killer now it's second and 13 receiver looks it in it's complete they bring him down but a solid pick up to put them in position to pick up a first down they're facing a third down from the gun wants to pass using the quick game third down conversions are huge and they've got one and they at the 35 the offense set for a first down play leaves it with the running back they get him down but he does pick up three to the 32 yd line that's a really nice play it's impressive when it's first down and the defense thinks you might be running the football you still can line up you can get some movement at the point of attack and find a little crease for your running back able to pick his way forward for a decent game before the defense gets him down they'll come to the line for the eighth snap on this opening drive facing a third and short back to pass it's John and the quarterback will take a sack back at the 36 the RedHawks send out the punt unit first punt of the day and he'd love to lock him up close to their goal line the punt goes out of bounds and a nice job to get them backed up I think they'll spot it right around the 15 so the FIU Panthers offense has its first opportunity of the day here are our impact players for this game and it go executing an assignment to make an impact in the game yeah obviously we were talking to both coaching staffs this week and we ask them who needs to step up and play while they immediately pointed to these guys right here they are the key for their respective teams yeah and they don't always show up in the Box Score but these are the guys are the leaders these are the guys getting everybody organized and have to play well for their team to succeed didn't get much on first down it's second and [Applause] nine he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple listen I know there are a lot of DBS out there that all they want to do is get interceptions and dance in the end zone this dude likes to put his face in the fan get close to the line of scrimmage and tackle and on the opening drive that he's out there he gets a huge tackle for loss early that is a statement play now they've got a little room to work with they're out to the 28 with a first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs trying the left side he open to Lane and KN hit it a gain of five out to the 33 it's going to be important this offensive line able to get a little bit of push just got to give this guy an inch a little crease and he can make yards for it try to get the edge with a quick touch pass crosses to 45 all kinds of Running Room the 10 touchdown Panther and they break the seal on the scoring they're on the board first here in the season opener and what a I start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in a rhythm nice start for this offense they'll try to add another to their lead and the pat makes it seven nothing a very efficient five play scoring drive and the score comes on a huge play in the passing game covering 67 yards Char to the end zone and he'll just take a knee and this drive will start at the 25 guys we'll see what this Red Hawks offense can get done this time they reach deep in the Playbook used almost all of them it seemed Jesse and still ended up having to punt last time and I think on this next Drive David you can go back to some of the stuff that worked that last drive too find the things that you had success with you just got to be able to build on it a little bit Yeah and just break that extra tackle you know make that extra play make the guy Miss put a drive together so you can finish with some points that's the end of the quarter and FIU is on top and we've come to the end of the first as we take a moment to check out the stats so far we'll get this quarter going with a second down play quarterback on the keeper nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry well they were trying to set up the option but the quarterback had no chance did you see the defensive tackle penetrate what a great first step he shot right through the offensive line and got the tfl and they get to the quarterback and knock him down back at the 16 and the Red Hawks line up to punt it away doesn't say much for your drive when you're looking forward to the [Applause] punt he's got great speed and returner could find no daylight he goes down the Florida International offense is back on the field that last drive an absolute aerial assault for the touchdown Jesse it was a nice job in play calling too David just giving the quarterback some easy looks and reads so he could go out and exit and he knew exactly where to go with the football everything looked really really easy he was hot the ball was coming out of his hands the defense better do something different coming after him he uncor one deep and they can't hook up going for the big play on second down now it's third down they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here on third down going up top using the back as a receiver on the screen they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some range for their running back FIU comes out with a fresh set of downs a seven yd pickup it'll be second and three I know it's sexy to throw the football but if you can pound it away and get these kind of gains they will just add up wear the defense down get first downs and ultimately get some points they get him down but it's past the sticks and it's a first down for FIU offense has it at the 28 on first [Applause] down he's looking to throw it unloads to the wide out got his man downfield touchdown Florida International What A Catch and run for six and this offense is firing in all cylinders right now starting the year game one creating a little bit of a pad and separation at the end of this first half but you can see why so many people are really excited about this offense this season now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the extra point pushes to lead to 14 we check in with Kevin Connor what's going on Kevin guys right back to your game after we update the nation on this one Georgia Southern came through with a lunch pale hard hat performance and the end result is an eye openening Road Victory and I guess it's not so much that they won it's more how they won and the fact this wasn't ever really in question it's one game you don't want to react too much either way but I think both teams will leave this one with some things to work on moving forward Kevin thanks a lot for that one sounds as if they had a good one there he'll keep it himself he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a L of three let you know what to [Music] do now facing a third and long to the air it's Johns setting up the screen and the defense able to drag him down but not before they'll recycle that down marker hey man sometimes you get the perfect play call at the perfect time that time the defense blitzing offensive line allowed everybody to run up field and they slip in the running back screen and behind it there was nobody there to make a tackle and this offense generates a massive [Applause] play finding a way to put that foot in the ground and get it up to the 37 yd line you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense fights off a Defender they'll move the chains after he gets it to the 43 yd line and that's all you want right you want that first down understand the situation understand I got to get North and South get a first down get a new set of downs looking to move it through the air and this sophomore able to wreak some havoc and get the sack well I think one of the biggest reasons why this team team is finding themselves in a hole here in the first half is this has been a sack part they can't keep the defense off of their quarterback they haven't been able to get the ball deep down the field throwing it with the consistency they want because they can't keep their quarterback standing up straight and that is good versatility there and a big hit from the backer in pass coverage they're at their fastest Tempo trying to get off this third down play looking downfield and he needs a bunch and the defense gets to the quarterback what a great job by this defense setting the tone early in the first half they've been hitting the quarterback early and often make him feel uncomfortable make him feel that pressure you keep getting him on the ground that's why they built the lead fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way really good job by the coverage team to make the Stop and that's where they'll put it in play guys FIU ready to go back to work on offense they wanted to set the toe strike quickly Jesse they've done exactly that up two touchdown in this quarterback has been dialed Ino he's been so good reading coverage going to where the open guy is with the football they've been up and down the field man so far and this defense needs to make something happen right now you've already given up a couple touchdowns your offense has got nothing going still early in the game get a stop create some momentum for your offense we' got it at the 36 it's a first and 10 he's going to fire deep and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it let's see what they've got on second down after the incompletion they go back up top he's not afraid to go deep and a big play on the left sideline excellent awareness to get that foot in bounds and he'll take it to the house he got loose touchdown FIU sometimes it's players not plays or sometimes it's both and when you got that guy and you put him in the slot and you let him burn for a go route right past a nickel corner or one of the reserve corners or a safety that's a great job by the offense and that speed you can't teach and that's why he's in the house for six on to attempt the try and the the extra point is true and the lead balloons to 21 they got the late touchdown on the board now about to kick it away and hoping the defense can keep them from answering and he'll bring it out of the end zone rolling the dice to bring it out of the end zone did not work out as he stopped at the 13 offense in an empty set looking downfield it's Johns throws goes to the wide out wide open downfield there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer they really got things moving on this drive second play of the drive comes from the 37 he's going to pass keep and the defense is there he got away for a second but not for long as they knock him down for a loss time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the half he's looking for an open man on second down and the quick shuffle pass underneath they stop him almost immediately short gain there still a little ground cover to pick up the first we've got a timeout in the waning seconds of the half maybe a chance to get off a couple more plays and he just throws it away that is not what you're looking for on third down fourth down coming up that's why it's so important for this defense to win first and second down you set up third and Longs like that you show your exotic looks get the pass rush going everybody on the back end expecting throw and that's how you force incompletions and Force fourth [Applause] Downs takes a shot as he lets it go and that pass is intercepted and he's dragged down after the interception and that's how we'll close out the first half we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halim up gentlemen what else is new a really rockus environment there in Miami the red hearts will line up to kick off and start the second [Applause] half he'll bring it back from inside his SP couldn't find a way to create that broken field as he stopped at the 25 F IU gets it back and the Panthers will send the offense back onto the field this offense has really been clicking in the game so far Jesse no doubt everything their play caller is dialing up these guys offensively have been able to go out and execute them yeah and it's just maintaining the lead keep doing what you've been doing you got a big lead let's just keep powing it on until they find an answer now from the 40 it's first and 10 he wants to throw they're bringing Heat it in the middle and he's able to shed one tackle and gets a pretty good pick up well these wide receivers work the middle of the field so much of this is Fe understanding where the holes are in the zone or understanding how to get leverage on a man and these wide receivers are dangerous nowadays because they do it so fast and see that so quick and make those plays over oh look out there he goes Waltz is Into The End Zone but he might be dancing the other way there's a flag on the field that celebration turned sour quickly after they saw that flag and it wiped out the big play and the touchdown first down here for the [Applause] offense he's looking to throw it he looks that one in nicely he works his way inside the 30 down to the 29 and picks up a first down Pi up the first down on the drag route good job by the receiver knowing it was man coverage if he's looking he's booking he gave his quarterback the eyes right away that says hey I'm not stopping put it out in front of me I'm getting this first down he'll pull it on the read able to SC three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven got a little work done on first down now back to the line they think they can impose their will here with the run to the right touchdown Panther and the beat down has ensued and the second half looking a lot like the first half in this lead continues to build how about the rhythm of this offense they are showing you a little bit of everything what they worked on in the off season has been right on point in game one going exactly how they scripped it and the extra point makes it 28 to nothing almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown zero out of the end zone I know he thinks he can house every return but sometimes you just have to take a knee as he stopped at the 14 Miami Ohio has it back the Red Hawks offense heads to the field feeling some heat fires on the move and incomplete on the Deep ball and that's just a play that you have got to make if you're going to win this game you're not going to get a lot of chances like that you might not get another receiver that open for the rest of the Season off the play fake and he's all bottled up and now it's worse the ball's loose defense just cradling that fumble and securing it and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back forito and maybe this guy was hoping somebody would bail him out like a tuck Ru or something not going to be so lucky this time around give the defense credit this pass rush is serious he's in a world of trouble and down he goes a catastrophic loss on that play come on quarterback you need to be better in that situation first and goal scenario you're not taking a sack you got to throw that ball away if no one's open defense roll up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming he's looking to throw reacted well to the tip but just couldn't squeeze the foot ball instead of the turnover it'll be third down this is going to be a key that we look at this entire game how can this defense find ways to affect this quarterback and get pressure on it because they felt coming into the game if they could do that they could affect him and influence this passing game he's going to take off they'll force him out of bounds after a solid pick up on the play now on fourth down they'll send out the field goal unit and he'll try to knock it through from the right hash and 35 yds out field goal is good and they just tack on a little more to this gargantuan lead and for a quick update let's go to Kevin Conor's in the studio all right guys a little update on what else is happening in college football this weekend app state is lighting up the scoreboard right now thanks to a dazzling offensive display they're up 14 over the pandas we are are the eyes and ears of the college football fan and we've got you covered all day here in studio guys thanks for the update on that one Kevin let us know when it goes final they get him down after he makes the catch that completion leaves us with second and medium BR up off the bootleg wants to toss it fires to the wide out and the throw down the gut falls to the grass listen I would get rid of that thing pass too if I've been sacked that many times today they're coming every angle everybody's coming they've got to me the whole day can somebody please give and not much doing there as that defense runs him out of bounds and the Red Hawks decide to pun it away now on the return and he is knocked down immed imately after the cat that punt coverage team had its hair on fire the Florida International offense is back on the field they kicked a field goal on the last Drive Jesse they've got the lead don't make a dumb mistake but maintain your aggressive play calling yeah no doubt I think it's the play caller right now just taking a look at that script he's got in front of him and finding out where are my Playmakers who can we take advantage of on this defense to get a touchdown here though yeah and just keep moving the ball down the field just execute a little bit better in the Red Zone there's no need to panic we're moving the football and we got the lead the offense setting up shop at the 46 first and 10 looking to move it through the air he's got it down the middle and oh he was Off to the Races after the catch and they finally drag him down you got to give the o line a lot of credit there because it gave the receiver time to work all the way across the field on the drag route against Zone coverage quarterback gets it to him he's able to turn it up and get a first down all the way down at the 33 yd line it's first and 10 he's got his man nothing but green ahead and they finally get him stopped but it's a big throwing catch and he's down at the five on first and goal let's see if FIU can get it in wide out in motion he's looking to throw floating away touchdown p third and the Ping has started and everybody's getting in on the fun now for this offense from the opening whistle they have been up and down the field starters are scoring you've got backups in the game now and I love the play calling these guys came to your school to play in this offense to score touchdowns so let him go do it make this defense prove they can stop about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown let's see what he can do do with the return and the returner runs out of real estate as he goes down the Miami Ohio offense returns to the field boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really click no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here Paul yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on this drive he'll do it himself and they'll drag him down that's likely the last play of the third quarter what to that's the end of the quarter and FIU is on top and they are starting to pull away as we come to the end of the third quarter let's take a look at how we got here a third down play to get the quarter started [Applause] from the gun wants to pass throws for the tight end and it's incomplete on third down the Red Hawks will send out the punt unit they may have to pay him overtime he's punting for the fifth time today yet another punt on the way got to make sure that hamstring stays loose he's been busy he only needs a sliver of daylight very little will make a crowd hold its breath like a punt return and he brought them to their feet on that one guys if are you ready to go back to work on offense looking for a productive play on first down quarterback on the keeper and the ball's on the ground once that ball was lose offense didn't have a chance Defenders everywhere it's a turnover listen there's so many athletic quarterbacks now that do the design runs I got to make them pay I got to physically hit him as hard as I can as many opportunities as I get they run a designed quarterback run nice job being physical forcing the fumble offense getting set for first down they'll crank up this drive with the pass can't make the grab quarterback just missed him a little bit they'll try again on second down after the incompletion and it's just been that kind of day for this quarterback in this offense guys they have never been able to get into a rhythm throwing the football timing's been off accuracy hasn't been great we've seen some drops just not in sync and that's why they find themselves trailing by a lot right here late in the game the offense lines up at the 40 they've got a first down he's going to pass and the pass is intercepted got some room to run he's at the 10 and he is taking it all the way back touchdown Florida International this you didn't think it could any worse right you thought this game's over as it is anyways offense still throwing the football still trying to make plays and the defense just continues to pour it on gets the pick makes its way all the way to the end zone lining up to tack one more onto that lead and with the extra point the lead is even bigger they're about to kick it away and the defense probably can't wait to get back out there after the pick six he'll bring it out it's Smith stopped at the 17 and he's probably second guessing that return guys we'll see what this Red Hawks offense can get done this time well the good news is they threw a touchdown pass last time it was just to the wrong team Jesse well that's an unfortunate part of the game for quarterbacks but guess what they do happen so you've got to be able to turn the page here and Lead this offense well I think you know this defense is going to be a great Rive they're going to jump routes they're going to play aggressive you got to take advantage of that maybe use that this time to your advantage pressure coming he's moving out of the pocket he showed it all there a little elusiveness a little power and he's got the first down well he does a really nice job buying time and I love the awareness there understanding no one's open downfield knowing where the sticks are and he's able to use his athleticism to get that first down he'll try to do it himself come to the frustrating reality of college football like the guy at the quarterback spot he can just do that pull it down get positive yards makes the defense have to account for him every single play wants to throw on second down quickly to the tight end the defense wouldn't let him lose there and it was a completion but they lost yardage that's a great example of the defense there tackling the catch as soon as the big fella caught the ball down he went not picking up the third and long from the 42 if they can get some of it it might give them a chance to go for it on fourth down from the gun wants to pass can't make the connection on third down thanks to that tough hard noosed pass defense and now it's fourth down and the Red Hawks will punt this one away they're up to a half dozen kicks today and the punt team able to sling him to the ground FIU gets it back and the Panthers will send the offense back onto the field after that last drive he came back to the sideline and the coach probably said you dropped it you didn't pick it up come on get on the ball David no that's not what he said he said you're doing a great job just keep your head up yell yeah he got blasted you got to hold on to the football bomber turnovers to side games those are big plays it's tough on him too cuz he knows he leted his offense nowhere to go and the ball is loose defense coming up with a huge fumble recovery hey you know what really easy it's easy to say hey quarterback run out there pitch off of that guy and now your running back gets to go play one-on-one with somebody else it's got to all work timing wise and the defense did a great job flying up nowhere to go make the play make him make it he snares it in the end zone touchdown Miami and this has been a rough day for this offense and finally some good things to happen build some momentum maybe for the future you know that's the way the coaches spin it when you're getting beat up and you're getting destroyed like listen let's find something for the future let's keep fighting let's keep working this team's done that put some points on the board so it's not all bad here he comes from inside his own five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 the Florida International offens is back on the field as it turns out the fumble on that last Drive set up the touchdown David and there's no bigger stat in football than turnovers you turn the football over they turn it into points Jesse that is not a recipe for Success good news though they get another chance right they can make amends with this drive right here that and the ball is intercepted and he will step out of bounds but what a play to get the ball back for his offense obviously this game hasn't gone the way they would have liked but coaches are always looking for positive moments and things that you can build on how about that young man going out getting an interception yeah they're being blown out they're probably not going to win this football game but that is the type of play that as a coaching staff you can build on for next week's game clock is under four minutes as they come to the line for second down brings up second down he's looking to throw finds a saw spot in the middle can anyone catch him he'll be stopped just short of the end zone but they'll have it first and goal the huge explosive play put him right on the doorstep and now they've got to punch it in Dre snap and he takes it in for the score touchdown RedHawks good for them they put together a drive they they got a touchdown it's been a bad day I mean this is a day they're going to want to forget they're getting destroyed but at least you get some positive vibes maybe maybe finish this game on a little bit of a high note a little bit on the run from inside his own five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 guys FIU ready to go back to work on offense well let's see if this drive goes better than the last one they were in and out quickly after the quick pick David yeah first play big mistake man now let's get this offense in a little bit of a rhythm maybe before you open it up again Palmer or do you trust him right away uh he seems to me like the guy maybe that just needs to kind of get into the flow of the game so maybe you get the running game going here and just give him some easy looks to let him get loued up they'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 27 they'll try to get it through the air and the quarterback is snowed under and that is your job the o line has to protect their quarterback that's the most important position on the field you got to make sure you keep him upright you got to do a better job he'll be content with the field position making the fair catch right around the 30yd line first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning he Wast no time and comes out throwing fires to the big fella how about this backer in pass coverage and bringing the big hit stick with him too after the short completion it's now second down he's looking to throw grabbed over the middle it's abot and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the stop coming out on first down with the play fake pocket starts to collapse oh he needs to get rid of he needs to do something and he will go down what a terrible terrible play and a big [Applause] loss and this defense goes back to back backck sack Jack and whatever they did on first and second down don't do that anymore third and very long coming up and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up the red hearts will bring the punt team onto the [Applause] field he'll get it to about the 25 before they put a stop to the return F IU gets it back and the Panthers will send the offense back onto the field this is quickly turning into a celebration Jesse as they've taken control of this game and they should feel good about how they played they knew they had to come in here protect home turf they've gone out they've run it well they've thrown it well running toward the tape spins away running inside the 20 and we have breaking news they SC for yet another touchdown and the offense putting up more points and guess who's jacked up this home crowd starting the season off with offensive fireworks and looking to go one and0 they are loving their squad [Music] ready to try the point after extra point and the extra point just TS a little bit more on to this huge lead and let's check in with Kevin Conor in the studio Kevin Dynamite match up this week fellas let's show you what's going down Pittsburgh has the lead right now the steel city has been buzzing all week but this game is hardly over there is time left on that clock they're up by 11 over the Sharks your boy KC has your covered here in studio guys in case anything changes in this one and how about that one Kevin will be keeping an eye on everything thing going on elsewhere they'll snap it from the 36 they've got a first down he wants to throw and he drops it just took his eye off of it at the last minute this defense has put a game together like it is hard to put all the facets of Defense together run defense pass defense they've been so good man dialed in you could tell they were ready they were fast they were phys PS it in on the right and this defense was flailing as he weaved his way and got down to the 26 and Jesse there's a huge Mount to climb here but you might as well start with a chunk play well you got to start somewhere ree it's been tough going for this offense all game long they find themselves in a hole but I love the aggressive nature keep taking shots keep trying to claw your way back into this one and this junior quarterback shows you why the scouts love that big arm of his Al alert unlock they're threatening to score and they'll throw it got a in it's Smith that completion will take it close to the 5 yd line they'll mark it at the six going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down he's looking to throw he's got it and he'll step out of bounds just short of the goal line almost a touchdown but not in there yet and the red hwks line it up with a first and goal he wants to throw it he wants it all and he can't quite make the connection as he was trying to pay off this Red Zone opportunity and after this play the cake will be baked now the play fake and the quarterback goes down at the 11 yd line waed so long to start the season and just the way you want to start getting that first Victory and the first games are so much fun you've been practicing against each other over and over all through camp now you get to come out start the season off one and0 Jesse great start it was a great start for the winning team now for the losing team obviously not the way you want to get into this season there were some mistakes with execution and guys are going to have to do a better job individually but that's why you play the games you get to now go back to the drawing board get back on the practice field try and High out these wrinkles it's a long season ahead lot to play for so that's going to do it for us for
