spectacular ocean views not far away from the home of the Florida Atlantic owls FAU Stadium in Boca Raton Florida where they hope this game lives up to the setting what we have in store today a clash between a pair of AAC squads as we'll see the Army Black Knights taking on the Florida Atlantic owl for EA Sports college football ree Davis joined here in the booth by David poock and Jesse Palmer and guys let's get this thing [Applause] [Music] started for Atlantic about to put total leather and get this thing started he'll bring it back from inside his five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 so Army's offense will take the first swing of the game and this guy feels like a throwback back in the day the running backs were always the start this guy fits that ble and he can do a lot of different things too he's not a one- trick pony this guy can Tote The Rock he can catch the ball he can block we might even see him throw the ball in this game this is a jack of all trades how about the defensive end understanding football understanding that I got to keep outside contained I'm respons responsible for the quarterback good job playing his responsibility and how about getting that sucker on the ground he's a pretty good athlete to be able to Corral him tackle him right in the middle of the field and get him to the ground going to run it it's Robinson open space at the 25 and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up on that one they decide to attack the left outside on the ground and you see the speed by the ball carrier there ree picking up by huge chunk of yards and I can't imagine any reason they wouldn't just run that play again if if it ain't broke don't fix it why not just go back to the well one more time right back to the well really nice stop there from this senior leader well man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack after the the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven he'll do it himself and they try the middle of this defense and that is not happening really nice job by the defense shutting down all the options don't let him get into his reading phase go get him right now play sound and more importantly tackle him and get him on the ground they've got a good chunk of brown to cover on Third and long from the 41 looking to throw it's Dy and they got him he'll get him down for the sack you got to give the defense tons of credit because we know how much speed this quarterback has that time you saw the pursuit they were able to bring him down for a big loss on the sack the Black Knights will punt it away on fourth down getting our first look of the afternoon at the punter he'll settle for some pretty good field position and make the fair catch at around the 35 so Fort Atlantic's offense has its first opportunity of the day looking for a productive play on first down wide receiver now comes in motion from the shotgun the inside g a run up the middle is stuck for No Gain defense is about firing off hitting the offensive guys and staying in your gaps everybody knowing where they're supposed to be you could tell the defense everyone was right where they're supposed to be nowhere to run got stuffed on first down it's second and 10 the give out of the gun pretty good effort on that one to work his way up to the 42 offensive linemen love to run the power why you run power you run power then you can play action you don't want that defense to be sitting there saying it's a pass it's a pass having to pass block every play you got to keep defenses off balance come to the line at the 42 facing a third and short they'll try to pick up the first through the air makes the catch it's Tucker gets it to the 46 yd line first down for this offense really nice job there by the quarterback understanding that it's Zone coverage on third down they going to have to find someone working into a soft spot get the ball out of your hands quickly make an accurate throw and pick up the first well done Florida Atlantic going back to work after moving the chains they'll go back to the ground and look this guy has some serious moves and he tried all of them and still didn't get loose y now coming up got three on first down it's second and seven they'll leave it with the lone back and they'll stop him after a minimal pick up of up now facing a third and long from the 50 yd line dropping back it's fer looking to scramble he'll try to do it himself he's got first down yardage as they move it to the 44 well he does a really nice job buying time and I love the awareness there understanding no one's open down field knowing where the sticks are and he's able to us his athleticism to get that first down and the owls have their offense in high gear wide out in motion quick pass on the jet motion the defense wouldn't let him lose there and it was a completion but they lost yardage the first thing you have to do to make these plays successful offensively is I have to block The Edge I I got to get my Speedster in space they didn't do a good job of getting that guy out there in space where he could really use his Jets nice job by the defense understanding it seeing it rallying to it and tackling that guy for a loss gives it to the back on the draw and he's able to find a little bit of Running Room before they get him down draws are such a smart way to take advantage of fast defensive lineman they want to get up field and get after the quarterback it keeps them honest makes them realize they got to play the run too great play call they've controlled the football ball on this drive the eighth play will be a third and three they'll try to get it through the air gets it out fast he's there to make the stop but the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing and catch and had they not picked up that first down it would have been decision time for the head coach right you're kind of in no man's land on the fridge are you trying a long field goal are you going for it on fourth down but because of the execution there and the nice throw let's keep this drive going let's see if we can get some six motion from the offense quarterback flips it ahead quickly to the receiver able to scr three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven well and on these little push passes timing is so important trying to snap it right as he's getting a full head of steam when he gets the ball he's hitting the outside and David it puts the defense in such a difficult spot you immediately have to be rotating when you see that motion so everybody's got to communicate and kind of bump over that that's why offenses love to run it just it makes the defense communicate and see if you can just get him out of a spot we've reached the end of the first quarter and it has been a defensive battle and the stats tell the tale so far let's see if the offenses can find a little rhythm here in the second and the offense about to dial up its 10th play of this drive to the air it's fer and the pass is incomplete s thanks to a big hit love the physicality of this secondary on defense that Defender got to the football was able to separate the receiver from the ball and did it legally beautiful job they've got a ways to go on third down from the 24 as this defense tries to force him into a field goal try they go to the draw and they drag him down but not before he picks up the first down beautiful play call offensively at the perfect time in that situation the defense obviously expecting pass so they sneak the draw in and gash the defense the owls have it in scoring position on first and goal fast motion from the offense they'll use the running game on first and goal he'll pick up three before he's down at the six and 6 Y Line brings up second angle see if they can get it done on second and goal they'll run it up the middle here looking for a path to the end zone and he's sprinting he'll take it all the way who gives a hook the ows do it's a touchdown he's in the endone [Applause] [Music] [Music] lining up to tack one more onto lead exra and he's got the extra point and it's seven nothing to start this one that is what they mean when they say ball control a 14-play touchdown drive and he got into the house with the six to finish it almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown on the move from inside is five just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 Army has it back and the offense ready to go going with the counter play here finds his way ahead for three out to the 27 yd line you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven to the ground with the back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions somebody needs to make a play here it's third and long from the 26 dropping back it's Dy they're working that left side he gets it oh so close to the first down marker but I think he's going to be a touch short one of the things I love about this defense they just have such great awareness and they're always communicating they understood the down and distance they knew exactly what they needed to do to make the tackle to force the P that is so well done and the Black Knights will send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away looks did all the way in and now turns his attention up field he's brought down but a really solid effort to pick up every bit of yardage he could on the pun return wide receiver coming across in motion quarterback touch pass on the Jet Sweep One Step W twep squeeze this junior knows how to get him on the ground and these little touch passes man they're just the easiest completions ever for quarterbacks Palmer I bet you would have loved being able to just Flip It Forward that counts as to your completion percentage which is good and then it's all run after the catch so pretty easy for a QB you wouldn't have been the only All-American in this booth David if I were allowed to have Push passes when I was playing quarterback I'll tell you that it is so hard to defend it's so hard to seal that edge especially when this guy's Full Speed Ahead coming around the and they'll bring him to the ground after a short gain up third the D thinking bring some heat on Third and long from the 44 from the gun wants to pass fires to the middle it's caught really putting together a threat now they get the first it's at the 37 defense is about feeling out the offense and what they like to do what are they going to do third and short third medium third long so far the offense is winning defense is going to need to make some adjustments for Atlantic trying to get back on the ball the give from the gun and they try the middle of this Stout defense and they rise to the challenge brings up second down and now on second down for this offense defense wide receiver shows motion with Jet Sweep pass and they'll wrestle him to the ground after a short game he's brought down at third down coming up they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this this one on Third and long try to convert through the air right down the middle what a snag by the defense and he's wrapped up after a solid return on the pick and tell you what when defenses Play Zone all eyes are on the quarterback you have a Zone to drop to but you're setting on the quarterback reading his eyes great job by the defense understanding the ball was coming out breaks on the football goes and makes the int the cadets have it back his army he goes back on offense he'll keep it himself got the first down and more and he's brought down after a nice game man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out this offense will snap it from the 42 on First and 10 on the ground it's Robinson he's knocked down in the back field a swarming defense and he'll lose seven awesome job up front by this defensive line being so good at the point of attack and eating blocks eating some double teams that allows these linebackers to run free un numbered and get to the football second down coming up a little pre- snap eye candy for the defense they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one I love DBS that want a tackle they get an opportunity to look like Heroes on these outside toss plays physical play by the corner there getting the ball carried down behind the line of [Music] scrimmage this is a third and one long they'll run it out of the shotgun sweet cut there and the defense is swarming to keep him from getting to the first down well it's a great individual effort by the running back on that last play it's third and forever he tried to get his team the first down not enough let's see what they do on four the Black Knights will punt this one away he'll call for the fair catch here first down for this [Music] offense back to throw it's faner quarterback moving out of the pocket trying to make magic with his feet he's Off to the Races a really nice run and gain and he gets down to avoid taking punishment and you're seeing here the difficulties defenses have trying to contain this guy if you leave a lane open or you don't sack him right away and you allow him to get outside the pocket he is going to take off and he is very difficult to tackle in the open field he's got running back likeability out in space looking to the big tight end he's got an open man and he's knocked down immediately but not before he moves the chains all right second quarter getting closer to the half offense is still having a lot of success stringing some first downs together defense is going to need to figure something out before they get to halftime now on first down from the 43 he's going to pass complete to the right touchdown ows on a catch and one for six speed kills this offense they've got multiple guys that can burn you you can see it doesn't take them long to light up the scoreboard [Music] [Music] P unit on the field for the extra point and the extra point pushes the lead to 14 quick strike offense on that three place scoring drive and they close the deal from 43 ydd out with a touchdown pass the kickoff team takes the field to boot this one away from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 Army has it back and the offense ready to go they'll throw it on first down this is when the pressure can ramp up a little bit on an offense DAV when they start feeling the heat to answer a score and I think being down 14 you can kind of feel that way but dude if you put a good drive together this is a seven-point game so Palmer no need to panic I was just going to say David I mean this thing can flip quick you go down score all of a sudden your defense gets a stop or who knows better yet gets a turnover this game is entirely different fires to the big fella the defense uses their second timeout of the half as they try to get get their act together probably the toughest call on the play sheet third and long balls at the 25 looking to pass it's [Applause] daily just had to get rid of that one to save the yardage on third [Applause] down and the Black Knights will bring the punt team on into the field he's getting a lot of work fourth time he's punted tonight he'll settle for some pretty good field position and make the fair catch at around the 35 for Atlantic has the ball back and the offense will try to put together a drive looking to go up top on first down and there was nowhere to go for this quarterback and down he goes this defense needed something to go right man they're down big already in the first half get to the quarterback get him on the ground this could start some momentum going back the other direction they'll try to keep that sack from Wrecking this drive here on second and 15 he's looking to throw he wants to take the top off pass Falls incomplete and there are still 3 seconds left you know they're saying no risk it no biscuit if you want big plays on offense you've got to be able to take shots they didn't hit that one but moving ahead in the second half expect this offense to keep dialing them up one more snap coming before [Applause] halftime they'll knock him down and that take us to halftime that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with the halftime update gentlemen looks like we've got a great atmosphere today in boa rone and it's been said football is a game of inches and guess what based on the comparison between third down conversion rate today and the average yard per play how can you argue that I mean the low-lying fruit is to look at some of the explosive plays we've seen in panic but really this game is going to come down to which team is more efficient when they have the ball and how they play when it matters most and with that let's send it back to the guys at Howard schnellenberger field the Black Knights will kick it away to crank up the second half he'll take the return and try to improve the field position not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 the Florida Atlantic offense will return to the field quick pass on the Fly motion not a whole lot of room there three yards maybe second and seven tried to pound it on first down now back to the [Applause] line pulls and throws off the RPO at Midfield he's got R hit the afterburners kid and he's brought down after a huge completion this defense came into the game knowing they could not give up explosive plays the secondary is going to have to do a better job in coverage and now they got their backs up against the wall in their own Red Zone Florida Atlantic trying to line up quickly they're looking to pass from the Red Zone and he's got it touch down Florida Atlantic when these offenses get in the Rhythm they're hard to stop already up early got a short field take advantage of it too get another touchdown this offense is doing whatever they want to do and having a lot of [Music] [Music] success now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic extra point and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further quick strike offense on that three play scoring drive and the finisher an 18yd touchdown throw just about set to kick it away on the run from inside his own five he was is hoping for something a little more Dynamic that they get him on the ground at the 20 the cadets have it back his army he goes back on offense trailing by three touchdowns if you're going to get back in it David the time to start is right now got to start now defense giving up points on that last possession again the offense is going to have to score and Jesse probably score pretty quickly yeah you got to go Tempo you're going to have to try to fit in as many plays as you can throughout the rest of this game but I think more than that you got to eliminate the negative plays no more penalties and no more turnovers and they'll line up from the 31 on first down looking for a physical attack from the gun and the defense holds firm no pickup at all on that play boy there wasn't much room to wiggle for that running back there none at all great job by the defense getting the Back Field quickly closing up all the holes Nowhere to Run they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 quick hand off they make the stop but this running game moves to change as they get the first down and that is just an attitude run running it right up the middle right into the teeth of that defense and the Black Knights will snap it on First and 10 moving the running back trying to get the D to tip its hand he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three second down coming up last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 [Applause] a strong tackle and wrap up from the [Music] [Applause] junior it's third third down in this offense is already in a world of trouble they can really use the conversion not to mention multiple scores scanning the field it's daily complete to the right he gets it to the 38 yd line and they'll pick up a fresh set of downs well look that wasn't a touchdown but that was a massive play for this offense they needed some momentum they needed to find a rhythm in what better way than converting on third down awesome job by the quarterback getting through his progression off play action on first down finds his tight end well it's a nice job to of a quarterback after the play fake there getting his eyes down the field he had to get that to his tight end quickly knowing he wasn't going to have a lot of space to run with after the catch clock ticks under the 4minute Mark here in the third quarter pre- snap Motion in the backfield give to the fullback and just wedges it ahead a bit before he's brought down looks as if we have an injury on that last play and we'll take a break to check him out coming to the line looking for that first down on Third and short from the 29 on the option it's D moving deeper into enemy territory move the chains it's first down at the 27 it must have been a brutal week for this defense preparing for this game because of all the different ways they can attack you because of how athletic this quarterback is and how he can hurt you running the football he just showed it to you right there in search of their first touchdown of the game they are on the move with a first and 10 they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and you don't always see tosses into the boundary most people want to go to the wide side of the field defense was ready not as much space when you go wide out there but more importantly the defense doing a great job winning setting the edge running to the football shutting the toss down the loss yardage leaves him with second and 11 takes a hand off it's Robinson just discarding tacklers punching and grinding his way to the 23 this defense has got to get better at tackling in the open field or game tackling because if you need three or four guys to bring a guy down have fun with that quite a bit of work to do on third down from the 23 and this D would love to force a field goal try to throw it's Dy they've got the screen set up not a whole lot of room there on that screen passes in just never developed well on third down they go to the running back screen they're able to get a couple of yards but not enough for the first what do they do it's wise not to be too greedy and they'll go ahead and send out the field goal unit doesn't have a straight on shot here he'll kick it from the left hash and 39 yards is good that thing would have hit a string in the middle of the upright perfect that makes theida atlan 21 on three [Music] [Applause] after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it away set to kick this one away and he takes this from inside the five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 fla Atlantic takes over again and the owls offense will go back to work he tries to take the top off and you just don't expect your Junior quarterback to get fooled and to throw it into double coverage like that well I know that one fell incomplete but what a day this guy has had thrown the football multiple touchdowns and he's done a really nice job with his decision making hasn't thrown any picks which is really helped keep this offense on schedule wide receiver now comes in motion off the play fake throws to the wide out snagged in the middle it's Johnson they'll get him on the ground at the 46 and it'll be a first down nice confidence by the QB good throw over the middle of the field nice little strike down the field for a big play listen you got to throw it where it's open and he found a slot found a little hole in the middle of the field nice job attacking it time winding down in the quarter as they come to the line the run from the shotgun fting off the defender defense makes the tackle and that will probably be the final play of the third quarter and guys for Atlantic is on top this has been utter domination through three quarters and The Stance will back that up one more period to go and we'll see just how much fight they've got left in them got a little work done on first down now back to the line give to the single back they stop him at at the 42 but they get it across Midfield pick up 10 and the first down and the defense down in this game they just can't do anything to stop this offense at this point David right now they know they're going to be trying to run the football and try and Ice the game but there's nothing at this point it seems they can do yeah and it's frustrating I got to sell out man I I got to bring as many guys to the line of scrimmage as I can I got to find a way to get this ball back to my offense the the clock is not my friend and them running the football is only going to run this thing out quicker I got to find a way to make something happen strip the football do [Music] something Florida Atlantic goes to work with a fresh set of downs they'll ride the running back and leave it with him and that's a very productive first down play and bringing up second and three man that's the adant of having a good coaching staff to teach these players in this type of situation with the lead late in the game you want to stay in the field of play and keep the clock tick they do that after that nice run they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three oh and they'll try to catch him with a pass grab behind the line it's Moy he's close to the first down but they're going to Mark him just a little short they were able to get the ball to the running back in space but that space just evaporated and a great job by the defense man it's tough to get those guys on the ground they're so used to being having the football as running backs and making plays and being Dynamic so usually one guy not going to get him to the ground you want many guys swarming to the football try to get that elusive guy on the ground and the defense makes a play and they get the quarterback down at the 26 this defense they are tenacious and they've got guys up front that are athletic and that are so strong wrong and then can collapse the pocket you saw it right there in that play action attempt and now on fourth down they'll try a field goal this one will be a 43 yd field goal attempt from the left hash never a doubt and that will extend their lead even further [Applause] [Music] [Music] 24 they're really starting to extend that lead as they get ready to kick it away again he'll start the return inside his five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 Army has it back and the offense ready to go Jesse they had to kick a field goal the last time they had it yeah often times early in games you're just trying to find your Rhythm some things work some don't on that first drive Dave it' be interesting to see what happens here in the second Drive yeah you got to feel for the defense now you understand what they're trying to do what their game plan is now now you get to go into phase two of your game [Applause] plan open the drive with a chunk play out past the 40 and they are in business on first down motion trying to get the defense to show its hand takes his shot it's caught downfield he's brought down but there's a flag on the play let's see if it stands personal foul R the pass defense [Applause] so the offense gets an automatic first down after the roughing the passer penalty he'll ride his man on the option and you want to talk about gang tackling everybody on the defense run to the ball at the 11 yd second down coming up going to work on second down in the red zone is still some ground to cover to pick up that first down single back formation and they give it to it and a nice solid pick up there before the defense wrestles him to the ground I think that was an example of the offensive coordinator trying to help out his quarterback he's trying to keep these third Downs manageable you know you throw the ball on second down and it's incomplete now you've set up third and long and now you're set up to fail not a l the ground to cover and not much to defend a big third down in the Red Zone he makes a grab takes it to the house touchdown army army number 87 with the grab and [Music] [Music] getting set for the point after on for the extra point and the extra point pulls them closer it's 24- 10 quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and they close the deal with the seveny for the score about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown something kick it away fielded In The End Zone it's moley nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 for Atlantic has the ball back and the offense will try to put together a drive gets him on the ground at the 31 but a nice pick up of 15 yds there and listen if it ain't broke don't fix it I I mean I love teams that commit to the run and when it's successful keep running the rock yeah David I I think this offensive line right now they've got a lather going they're really sort of getting in the groove and flow of this game they're just getting tremendous push at the point of attack it seems like every single time they decide to run the ball down at the 33 yd line brings up second down they'll probably bleed every second possible off this clock before they snap it they'll run it they want to take their time here good job running tough and behind his pads as he gets it's up to the 38 yd Line This is a big pressure moment for the offense too because they've got the lead but it's now third down on their own side of the field they would love nothing more than to be able to convert this stay on the field keep bleeding the clock but the defense I'd expect them to bring pressure here trying to force the ball out of the QB's hands quickly on Third and short they'll try to throw for it grabbed over the middle it's Tucker and he'll be taken down but he does have enough for the first down we reached a two-minute warning and this offense will be quite content just to drain the rest of the time away Florida Atlantic has the offense humming we'll give him a couple on that one second and eight coming up quick timeout called by the defense stopping the clock to save as much time as possible for their offense they'll be perfect ly content to go right back to the ground here on second and eight wants to throw it's fer going over the top gra it inside the 10 touchdown Florida Atlantic and once he found some daylight it was time to make a house call and this offense continuing to put up points this game's Out Of Reach you know you're going to win but still thr throwing the football still finding that connection I imagine there'll be some salty handshakes at the end of this [Music] game they'll try to add another to their lead exra and the extra point splits the upright and they're up a full three touchdowns a 21-point cushion in the fourth they're just about ready to kick it away here he comes from inside his own five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the cadets have it back his army he goes back on offense going up top on first down fires to the tight end really nice job there by both guys the throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first down that throw and catch a really good example of why coaches don't want a quarterback to get stuck on a particular Target isn't it David yep that's exactly right find the guy who's open because you got so many guys that have so much speed that can do so much damage on the field find my matchup get it to him let him do the rest he'll come out throwing on first down and he got a hand in there knocks it away incomplete and this is just one of those days man where everything has gone wrong right like they just haven't been in a rhythm they haven't they haven't got it going and never built the momentum this is this is one of those days you learn from you try to grow from a lot of things that we're going to show in the film room that people aren't going to like but hopefully you can learn from it and do better next time looking for a man it's Dy they're bringing heat had to get rid of it quickly that pass is incomplete and they might be fortunate it was a knock threee for a fumble it'll be third down another hit on the quarterback all day long this defense has been able to pin their ears back and get after this guy and because of that he's never gotten into a rhythm throwing the football and that's why they find themselves trailing here late in the fourth quarter on Third and long trying to have a big completion here got his man found a bunch of room and got it to the 44 yd line the offense calls timeout it's the second one they've used this half comes out throwing on first down got it set up on the outside crosses the 30 he got away he will step out of bounds but not before the big pickup and a first down for this offense hey you know the defense here in this situation with a huge lead they've got to anticipate that this offense is going to be trying to throw the ball to the sideline so they've got to work different coverages to try to force the quarterback to go over the middle of the field with the football trying to find his man on first down he got it and he will score touch down Black Knights yeah and really nice job seeing the middle of the field seeing I can go deep and attack the middle of the field and you can tell he runs a post balls right on him catches the football and then gets to G right into the end zone for a touchdown play the analytics here and you go for two to the air it's Dy and good coverage and better Hands by the defender to knock it down in the end zone Florida at they're definitely up against a time running out down two possessions they'll try the onside kick cool as a cucumber as the hands team makes a sure catch yeah and this is why you put your hands team on the field most of the time you when you know it's coming and you put those guys that are great catchers of the football the first guys what do they do they go block they go blow somebody up the next guys catch the football secure it get your butt on the ground and most of the time when you do this the ball game is over [Music] [Music]
