As promised, a look at football: Julian Nagelsmann is also relying on his proven personnel in the new DFB squad. He responded to the resignation of four players with minimal changes. Angelo Stiller is the only newcomer in the squad for the first international matches after the European Championship. Surprisingly, Antonio Rüdiger, Real Madrid's central defender, is not there . He wants to use his time to regenerate after an intense summer. Instead of Neuer, Alexander Nübel is there as the third goalkeeper, and as expected, Alexander Pavlovic is also in the squad. In addition, Julian Nagelsmann already had surprises in the European Championship squad, i.e. names like Maximilian Arnold, who is of course now a permanent member of the squad following the resignations of players. From this point of view, Nagelsmann demanded that his team integrate young people and talents from the start. We look two years ahead to the World Cup and build on it. Angelo Stiller was already in the sights of the previous squad at the EURO, but didn't make it. So he's a good player, but there's no question about it, I just have a bit of a thought: Stuttgart had a great last season, that's what brought these players into the national team. Stuttgart lost good players, will they have such a good team again? Will these players perform again? Of course I hope so, from the national team's perspective anyway. But you have to put a question mark on whether it will all work out that way. But without any question: Angelo Stiller belongs there, especially after the resignations of Toni Kroos and Ilkay Gündogan. Something has to happen in midfield. But maybe one more sentence: Gündogan and Kroos, these are names that have been at the top of European and world football for years. We no longer have them in these positions. We hardly have them in the squad anymore anyway . This is a great squad with great hopes, they played great at the EURO, but we have really lost quality, I have to say. But well, maybe it's also a chance that they can somehow regroup, that there's a dynamic there, that the burden is distributed across many shoulders. Nevertheless, we need a captain and that is still the open question. I just cringed a bit when I read : Oh, Antonio Rüdiger is out now. Because at least he would be my personal favorite for the role. Yes, he is certainly one of only two players who are really an option. So, he's not there now because he's being rested and had a lot of workload last season. Leroy Sané is also missing from the squad because he had an operation on his groin over the summer. But they will definitely return, both of them. I think Rüdiger will also go to the training camp next week. So, in my opinion there are actually only two candidates : Antonio Rüdiger and Joshua Kimmich. What does a captain have to be? He has to be a ranked national player, he has to have experience, he has to have standing in the team, he has to always play. It's no use if he sits on the bench or at least plays almost all the time. Then there are n't that many candidates. As I said, some of the long-established players are gone, but the young ones still need to develop. Seen this way, I'm sure Julian Nagelsmann will already have in mind who he would like. He will probably clarify this in the training camp with the national team next week . Totally exciting affair, two very different guys, two great footballers, two great people in their own way. We were able to experience that again at the EURO. Personally, I'm betting on Antonio Rüdiger because I believe that as a player at the back he can be even more of a boss in the center as Kimmich. But it could also be Kimmich, he has already done that before and has also worn the armband at Bayern. Could this be the boss factor? Absolutely.
