Week 2 UAB Vs UL Monroe College Football 9/7/24

home to the ULM warhawks and fans have been getting ready for this one pretty much all week there's just something about the night cap after a day of wall toall football it just seems this is when chaos ensues as we'll see a squad from the AAC the UAB Blazers really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so U El monrose offense will have the first possession of the game there he is the man who makes everything go and they believe they're going to score every time they touch it when he's on the field Jesse he plays with unbelievable confidence re always knows where to go with the football the entire Playbook is at this guy's disposal yeah which is so much fun for a coach so much fun to play with him a guy that can do everything everybody on the field is active in a weapon he finds his man and they'll pick up the first down and Mark it at the 7 we got to give the o line a lot of credit there because it gave the receiver time to work all the way across the field on the drag route against Zone coverage quarterback gets it to him he's able to turn it up and get a first down here comes the offense on First and 10 from the [Applause] 47 they'll run it from the gun and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up tried to pound it on first down now back to the line to the ground with the back at the 40 there he goes he will step out of bounds but not before the big pickup and a first down for this offense defense is going to have their hands full trying to stop this guy they better rally to the football and get multiple hats cuz he is not easy to bring down and the warhawks will hustle to the line pulls and fires it complete to the right he brought down but he went backwards after that completion not the way they had it drawn up hit a little speed bump on this drive it's second and 12 the RPO fir complete to the left the defense wouldn't let him lose there and it was a completion but they lost yardage third down coming up on Third and long he'll need to loosen up that arm just threw that one away to avoid disaster now looks as if they'll settle for the field goal try and the holder will place it down on the left Hash a 47 yd try coming it's good and with that they break the seal on the scoring it's 3 nothing UAV [Music] so after putting three on the board the kickoff team is out there ready to boot it away looking for an alley from inside his own 10 and the returner will be drag down and U will take the Blazers offense will go to work for the first time offense getting set for first down quick pass on the jet motion and the visitors have nothing doing as they are greeted rudely on the opening play of the game they'll give it to the back he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from [Applause] here on third down going up top didn't have much of a choice just had to throw that one away it'll be fourth down and the Blazers will call on their punt team on the move it's Curry the solid return there offsets some of the punt yardage and really sets up this offense nicely guys we'll see what this Warhawk offense can get done this time looking for a physical attack from the gun they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 quarterback on the keeper picks up the first down he's all the way down to the 27 yard line and they are threatening it's hard to understate how much it's worth to have a guy who can run just enough to pick up a first down to keep a drive alive to avoid a negative play he's just got enough everybody could be covered on a pass play and he can go and get the first down for you he can make maybe one or two guys miss and just stretch the football past the sticks to keep the drive alive such a weapon to have on offense knocked down after a three yd gain to the 25 after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven might as well stick with him he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple ball spotted at the 27 they're facing a third and long to try to keep their hopes of a touchdown alive looking for a man it's Harry fires to the wide out wide open downfield they'll finally put the brakes on him at the three a big throw catch and run on that one the warhawks trying to get a touchdown on first and goal unleashes to the endzone almost intercepted they took a shot on first down and just about turned the thing over on second down looking again to throw and that one's way too far for everybody now after the incompletion it leaves them with third and goal from the three from the gun wants to pass had to throw it before he wanted oh man another incompletion that's three in a row and for the second time tonight they'll Trot out the field goal kicker never a doubt right down the middle that Ulf 6 UAV [Music] Z after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it away he'll bring it back from inside his spot really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 UAB regains possession of the Blazer offense back onto the field using his legs it's BBE and he fights his way forward gets away from one but not much doing on that one the Blazers want to crank the tempo on second down he'll let it fly and just a great job by the defense being staed right that's your job be Stout up front stuff in the Run play make them get in more passing situations but do not let them run the football that's 101 stop the run first it'll be a draw and they'll get enough for the first down and that's how things will come to a close here in the first quarter and the Blazers come to the line with a new set of down time has expired here in the quarter and Louisiana Monroe has the Ed we've played one before we move on let's have a look at the stats now to see if these guys can get back in the game as we open the second quarter and this set of downs gets started from the 33 first and 10 just will his way for a couple out to the 35 picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down from the gun the running back tries to hit the hole good pick up on the ground and they'll Mark him down at the 39 they plow ahead with with the run but still more ground needed to pick up the first down third down coming it's a draw and he gets it to the 45 yd line and that'll be a first down the Blazers are flying down the field well at first you don't succeed try try again right it's been really hard for this offense in this game to run the football but they finally break off a big run there that could be the play they need to really generate momentum and get this run game done [Applause] from the gun they'll try to impose their running game and he's able to find a little bit of Running Room before they get him down do they have another third down conversion in the bag already two for two on this drive it's third and two Powers through the defender and the defense will Corral the quarterback and down he goes at Midfield man down on the play as the officials take a break to let him be checked out and the Blazers decide to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away a fairly short distance here toward the sidelines not his best work the offense lining up for a first down [Music] play he's going to pass got it in the middle it's Harrison they make the stop right there good pickup it's still short of the first down bring up second down running back searching for a hole they get him on the ground after he gets enough to move the sticks they move the chains on the ground now another first down to throw it's Harry complete at the 45 on it way finally run out of bounds but he has this offense rolling with a first down they built this offense around finding mismatches and just get the ball to the back and let him do his thing yeah it it didn't have to be long down the field like it threw it right near the line of scrimmage but you know I got a guy when he gets in space he can make big plays happen nice decision by the QB good pick up on that play it'll bring up second and four kept it on the ground on first down now back to the line from the shotgun now here's an inside GI JN what this offense was looking for sets him up at the 26 with the first [Applause] down right back to the well a seven yd pickup it'll be second and three and the warhawks looking to take advantage of this Red Zone trip bring up second down red pass it's complete and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down here's this offense with a fresh set of downs he'll do it himself and into the end zone he's all the way down to the three and Electric Run has him set up first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning it's the two-minute warning and we'll see if the offense can tack a little something extra on their lead before the break he'll pull it on the read diving for the score and they knock it free that football must be riveted to your rib cage how can you let it go at least they fell on it they're bringing heat takes a hit as he fires and he was going for the touchdown there and they couldn't make the connection and here they come to give it another shot on Third and goal from the three on the ground into the end zone he goes touchdown warhawks a methodical Drive Soul crushing Spirit breaking and it ends in a touchdown and listen I know everybody wants the big plays the big long touchdowns and all that stuff but putting a drive together like that is very difficult to do time to time again a't it's demoralizing for the defense great drive by the offense and with the extra point they stretch the lead to 13 almost ready to kick it away after scoring the touchdown 1 UAV Z here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 UAB has the ball back ready to send the offense out to go to work trying to start the drive with a pass fires and picked off timing has to be so good we're throwing into his own defense over the middle of the field Ball's got to come out specifically on time cuz these windows close really quickly ball there thrown a little bit late as a result it's an [Music] INT great spot to start this drive for the offense he'll start this drive firing got it set up on the outside they make the stop but not for the screen has hit him for a first down and much more really good execution by this [Applause] offense he's got it on the move they make the stop at the 5 yd line but they've got it first and goal quick timeout call by the offense after the play the warhawks trying to pay off the threat on first and goal to the air it's Harry makes the catch and he's into the end zone touchdown you Elman Ro [Music] [Music] for he'll try to tack on one more on for the extra point the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and the score comes on a 5yd touchdown pass on the run from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 UAB regains possession of the Blazer offense back onto the field they find themselves in pretty deep hole here but maybe a chance to grab a little momentum and regroup at halftime yeah a big chance like this is this is an opportunity this is the biggest opportunity in front of them in the game right now you got to get some points on the board you got to create some and the quarterback is snowed under there's a timeout called as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer big first down sack for the defense brings up second down he's looking to throw fir to the big fella and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one a third and long coming up here third down coming from the gun wants to pass he makes a catch here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first half finally this offense starting to show a little juice they've got a first and 10 UAV to the air it's Zeno and the pressure gets to him down goes the quarterback the offense quickly calls timeout to stop the clock this pass rush has just been Relentless and you can bet your bottom dollar there about to bring the heat again throws to the wide out got his man he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down and the quarterback knew exactly where he wanted to go the football had time spins the ball deep nice job by this offense understanding what the defense has given them and creating the explosive play the Blazers will snap it on First and 10 he wants to throw quickly complete he's right out of bounds but a big play on that one and it'll be a first down just a few seconds remaining here as they try to put something up before halftime [Applause] [Music] [Applause] just had to get rid of that one good job to fight another play on second down they'll try the field goal to get the points before halftime it is perfect that makes the score UL 20 UAV 3 [Applause] so they get the late field goal right before the half and not much time after this kickoff for an answer from inside his own 10 let's see what he gets they'll knock him down and that will take us to halftime we played two quarters here time to go to Kevin Connors in our halftime update Ellis you've had yourselves one great broadcast so far today there in Monroe it's been a fun start to this one and this offense has really been the story they've opened up a sizable lead and unless something drastic changes things might get even more out of hand a combination of lethal efficiency and that offensive line has been the key they've m called that defense and also just about broken their will and just like that let's head back to our team inside Malone stadium and the Blazers will try to kick this one deep to get things underway in the second half he'll bring it out from inside is own 10 and good work by the coverage team to get the Return Man Down On The Ground wide receiver coming across in motion keeping it on the ground to open the second half tripped up at the 25 after picking up four the Blazers want to move quickly looking for a gap it's BBE not much doing there he gets it to the 26 a gain of one third down and this offense is already in a world of trouble they can really use the conversion not to mention multiple scores he'll throw it down and good quite find the crevice he needed to pick up the first down and the Blazers send out the punt [Applause] unit they'll get down and put a stop to this return they'll mark it at the 32 U Monroe has it back on the offense ready to go to work the give on the inside they pick up half of it it'll be second and five went to the running game on first down now now here they come again dropping back it's Harry and it'll be incomplete this is some physical pass defense we'll see if they go back to the air after the incompletion it's third and [Applause] five didn't have anything working and just had to throw it away on third down and the warhawks will putt this one away here's the fair Catch and he'll make it close to the 20 yd line they'll run this play from the pistol now they'll run the draw just enough there to get it to the 25 a pick up of two after picking up a couple at second and eight they'll keep it on the ground picked up a useful 5yd chunk out to the 30 yd Line This is where you make the money on the drive B at the 30 it's third and short they'll try to pick up the first through the air unloads to the wide out got his man downfield the defense got caught that time and they finally get him on the ground at the 41 nice play design on that one you make it easy for your quarterback too because it's easy to see what's happening right in front of you over over the middle of the field you can see where Defenders are dropping you can see where the soft spots are in zone coverage and just a really nice job by the QB locating his guide making an accurate throw off the play fake on first down to [Applause] throw and it's knocked away downfield the DB getting a hand in there back to work on second and 10 from the 41 after that last incompletion fires into traffic and it's picked off got some room to run and they capitalize not only on the pick but the great return to give the offense tremendous field position as a quarterback you've got to give your receiver an opportunity to make the play you got to put the ball on his body that throw gets away a little bit from the QB and that leads to the tip of the interception guys we'll see what this Warhawk off can get done this time they had to punt it away on their last possession but man what great field position this time I mean this is awesome like VI possession didn't go great now you're set up in an opportunity to get some points start thinking about what plays I like Jesse as I cross the 50 there are a lot of offensive coordinators out there David and in this position they like to take a shot right away and try and capitalize on this field position they've avoided the interception all day but they're lucky to get that one back here late it'll be second down [Applause] down and he really needed to hold on to that one but it was not loose and third down is coming if they can convert here that type of play can really give you a shot of momentum fires to the wide out a strike downfield they're able to keep him out of the end zone he'll be stopped at the two after the big play in the passing game man if I'm a defense I got to find a way to get some more pressure on the quarterback or disrupt their timing and their Rhythm I can't give them these big chunk plays through the air I got to be maybe a little bit more aggressive or do something a little bit different the warhawks have this offense rolling looking to pass it's Harry finds his big tight end he's down at the one and they almost had the touchdown pass on that one see if they can get it done on second and goal he'll keep it himself touchdown warhawks and the beat down has ensued this is like having an extra running back in your back field this quarterback is Magic when he decides to keep the football he can make people look absolutely silly he shows you on that [Music] play getting set for the point after for the extra [Applause] point and with the extra point they push the lead out a little further about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown 27 UAV on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 UAB has the ball back ready to send the offense out to go to work they face a pretty tall mountain here Jesse down 24 but if they're going to climb it this is a good time to start sense of urgency has got to be big right here you just get the feeling at this point of the game David they've got to score on this drive obviously their defense needs to get stops but at this point offensively they've got to execute much better they they got to be super aggressive down 24 you're going to need three touchdowns three two-point Converses everything that kind of go your way so fast and throwing in the football third on Third and long he's going to have to throw for it it's caught and he almost ran away from everybody on that one a huge pick up on that play and first down for the offense the GI and they picked up nine on first down it'll bring up second and short n second down coming up on the run it's BBE still running at the 40 he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up man a first down for this offense and I tell you what we can focus on the left side of line of scrimmage cuz that's the where that's where the play starts but you don't get big gains when you run out wide unless wide receivers yes wide receivers commit to blocking staying on their guys really good job on the outside by giving the running back space to make the big play to the air it's Zeno time running out and he goes down at the 34 on the play up [Music] [Applause] second and talk about spreading the ball around everyone getting a chance to show off the hands based on the number of targets we've [Music] seen as we start the fourth quarter it'll take a pretty sizable comeback to win this one first down sack pushes it back now it's second down throws to the wide out and he's picked off again his night vision hasn't been up to speed his third interception takes it the other way touch tou down U El Monroe the defense put six on the board with a big time interception return number 31 dude this you didn't think it could any worse right you thought this game's over as it is anyways offense still throwing the football still try to make plays and the defense just continues to pour it on gets the pick makes its way all the way to the end zone now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic and the extra point just tacks a little bit more onto this huge lead they'll kick it off and send that defense right back out there to try to score again after the pick six from inside the 10 here he comes not a lot of space to be found good Hustle by the coverage team and they stop him at the 21 UAB regains possession of the Blazer offense back onto the field he wants to take the top off he's got it down the left side nothing but green ahead touchdown UAV and once he found daylight it was Katie Bar the Door baby number eight nice pitch nice catch and listen maybe this helps next game right like we're trying to find a rhythm find something that works find somebody to go to and this offense has struggled and you're down by a thousand but I like that they continue to [Music] fight ready to try the point after on for the extra point and it's perfect kick is that drive not too taxing on the Playbook One play put it in the end zone just like that they're down big but they'll keep fighting to The Bitter End and line up for the onside kick here that's why they call them the hands team they're able to secure the onside kick U Monroe has it back in the offense ready to go to work out of the shotgun they go to the ground a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down they'll keep it on the ground to keep this clock moving a run up the middle is stuck for no game they line up with some serious work to do if they want to convert this one on Third and long he has to throw for it and he was hit just as he released it and it falls to the turf and the warhawks will bring the punt team onto the field this will be the second time they've had to kick it away and he will boom that punt out of bounds no chance for a return let's see where the official spoted back to pass it's [Applause] Zeno they're working that left side no what to move and he was loose and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one and a big key on that throw to the slot receiver guys is putting the ball out in front the Loc of the throw is what helped that guy get extra yards after the catch now on First and 10 from the 29 looking to move it through the air oh he's going to try to hit him over the top he got a hand in there knocks it away incomplete second and 10 here he's looking to throw caught over the middle it's BB and they finally get him down but not before he's got him set up for business at the 49 yd line and a great job by the QB finding the running back getting the football where he can do some damage after the catch and most importantly get the first down the Blazers have it with a first and 10 he's looking to throw it getting some heat unloads to the wide out complete downfield and they'll finally catch up to him but not before a big chunk of yardage is picked up and there's no quitting this team obviously they're trailing late in the game but they're trying to make it happen we've seen two big plays now backto back they're putting pressure on this defense they build their attack around those big plays and they got one to give them a first and 10 in the red zone at the 18 He Wants It All reels it in in the end zone touchdown Blazers touchdown UAV one of the areas they really focused on with this receiver in the off seon was we need you to make more plays for us in the end Zone when we're taking shots we need to be able to step up and make tough catches and David what a grab right there and I think a lot of that has to do with trusting your guy knowing where he's going to be knowing when he's going to sit down when he's not so being on the same page and then having a guy that can go get it just when the ball is near him he's going to make the play just like he did right there for six points he's got it so they convert the two and keep just a flicker of Hope Alive down two possessions they are running out of time time here they need to get the ball back they'll line up for the onside kick they' HED to get that thing bouncing around but the hands team is able to Corral it first down here with time for maybe one more play until the two-minute warning from the gun the G looking for room he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple we've reached the two-minute warning and this offense will be quite content just to drain the rest of the time away might as well keep pounding that rock at this point in the game even though it's second and 12 at the 35 he's loose and a really nice run and pick up there before the defense avoided disaster and stopped the really big play they've got a first and 10 at the 34 he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple you see all this movement in football now all the stem in the defensive line they're sliding right before the snap creating confusion for the offensive line then they're moving back and stunting really good job by the defense continue to move continue to stunt continue to get in the back field and make this life hard on this running back timeout is called and it's the defense wanting to make sure that everyone's on the same page for this big down and sure tackling there to keep him from getting to the first down marker the warhawks will punt it away on fourth down able to keep them from getting a return and the ball goes out of bounds they're going to mark it right around the 20 UAB has the ball back ready to send the offense out to go to work they'll throw it on first down and he dropped it it looked for all the world like that would be a catch and he just got too excited and after the incompletion on first down this offense looking at second down fires to the wide out and that pass will be Jarred loose on second down that brings up third down they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from [Applause] here and he just throws it away on third down I don't think you can give up on a play like that down by multiple possessions you can't come up empty on this drive they'll go for it on fourth down makes the grab and he's got the first and they finally get him to the ground an easy conversion for this offense defense not exactly the perfect fourth down call there that's a great example of the receiver knowing exactly where the first down marker is he got the depth he needed to get so once he was able to make the catch he already knew he had it now the fresh set of [Applause] downs and they got to the line expeditiously Spike didn't stop the clock and here comes the offense on second down dropping back it's Zeno here's a throw downfield late a sensational grab down the field there as they try to at least put a positive spin on the end of this game man this offense is so dangerous Rees they've got dudes all over the field that can make plays there's a big gainer in the pass game you get a chunk of yards like that now the defense is really on its heels now they've got to hustle to the line and get set quickly gets everyone set they spike it to stop the clock they're about to snap it for the seventh time on this drive on second down looking to [Applause] throw good job to toss that ball out of bounds and avoid the loss and after this play the cake will be baked on Third and long trying to have a big completion here and that was is going to be incomplete he was throwing for the touchdown but just couldn't get the foot down in bounds
