Michigan vs Fresno State 8/31/2024 College Football 25 Gameplay

Arbor and the big house home to one of the most story programs in college football and the first one to win a th000 games the Michigan Wolverines maybe you need a little caffeine or maybe the sheer energy of this matchup will keep you wide awake as we know anything can happen when you kick off after dark as we'll see a squad from the Mountain West the Fresno State Bulldogs taking on the ninth ranked team in the land the Michigan Wolverine for sports college football I'm Rees Davis joined here in the bo as always by David Pollock and Jesse Palmer guys let's tee this one up and the Wolverines will put total weather to crank us up he'll bring it back from inside his five he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 so Fresno State will get the first crack at it here and here's the man they rally around and he has earned that type of respect David you dang right you earn it by doing it and he's done it at such a high level everyone believes in this young man in Palmer there's a reason why you're right David he's been in the big moments and he's won the big games this guy delivers when the game is on the line man when I can run the football like that on first down and create second and inches and stay way ahead of the sticks and a position now where I can throw the football or run I will have a lot of success on the offensive side of the football they give it to him again and the defense stops him just short of the first down maybe needed a few more chain links to move the sticks and this brings up a third down and identical situation right like do I want to be physical do I want to run the football or do I maybe want to take a shot it's always interesting these situations in footb ball always come down to aggressiveness how aggressive do you want to be cuz Palmer you kind of know what kind of coverage you're going to get yeah and I think for this running back too knowing him he's just super competitive he's going to want an opportunity to get another crack at this right now and really sort of get himself lathered up into the rhythm of this game I give him another shot Totten The Rock here on really tough run there he got four that'll leave him a yard short on fourth down [Applause] Fresno State will have to put it [Applause] away you'll settle for some pretty good field position and make the fair catch at around the 35 so Michigan's offense headed onto the field our first look at them today as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team and generally games go how these guys play if they make plays they've got a shot to win this one no doubt they got to show up these are the team leaders these guys have to play well if they're going to win the football after the productive first down play it's second and six out of the gun the running back has it a confident top efficient run gets it up to the 44 and you know when we talk about great third down defenses it really starts with them getting stops on first and second down you've got to get those stops early in the drives to set up third and long so that's a missed opportunity on that second down by this defense third and short from the 44 and we might know if they plan to go for it on fourth down by what they call here fires to the big F and they reacted well to the completion but it was too late to keep them from getting the first down well they pick up the first against Zone coverage I think a big part of this for young quarterbacks out there is if you're going to be throwing into Zone coverage you got to throw on time you can't stare down receivers because the entire defense has their eyes on you so you can't Telegraph where the ball's going you've got to hold it to the very last possible second try to freeze Defenders with your eyes and then throw the ball into open areas of the field anticipating where your gu going to be and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs after picking up a couple it's second and eight dropping back it's orgy flushed out of the pocket and he's still running after the move and he scoots his way to the first down and then slides to avoid the hit [Applause] defense has dominated the early part of this game and the stats point that out [Music] [Applause] emphatically both sides trying to find a little rhythm and efficiency and move the ball some here as we start the second quarter on the run it's Edwards He's like a pinball with Attitude out there hammering ahead to the 30 coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and three the RPO fir complete to the left still on his feet they make the stop but not before he sets them up with a first and goal from the 10 and I love the idea of getting this guy screen throws because of his ability after the catch so nice job getting downfield getting a hat on hat and giving him a tunnel to run through [Applause] [Applause] the Wolverines will try to punch it in on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run they get him down after a four yd gain to the six solid pick up of four on first down it's second and six running back looking for the end zone to the left and he's sprinting he'll take it all the way touchdown Wolverine and this running back is so dangerous downn close to the end zone he's got wiggle he's got great vision and burst and he show all of those attributes right there [Applause] [Applause] now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic point and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing they put together a 65 yd drive for the score and he got into the house from the six to finish it about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown and they desperately wanted to attempt a return but decided not to instead they'll take the Touchback wide out in motion he leaves it with his back they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one and defense nowadays they don't look at stats of what is a yards per rush they look at how many negative plays they can break CU why now you look at second down man it just became very predictable for this offense nice job creating the loss on first down didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 back to the ground with the running back B is out behind the line defense just cradling that fumble and securing it I'll tell you honestly I don't know what that player could have done to hold on to that football that Defender absolutely popped him he knocked him into next week there was no chance he was holding on to that [Applause] ball guys Here Come Those Maze and blue winged helmets on offense David they love should do what they did last time and put this one in the end zone you ain't lying they did a great job the offense was clicking everything went well Palmer they execute and got the touchdown and they really were in a nice Rhythm as well I'd love to see that here on the next drive too just keep doing what you're doing everything seems to be working and you seem to have this defense on their heels they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three to the air it's orgy and he will take it in TCH down Michigan look it's still early but we have some real distance being put on the scoreboard right now you do it's early but you got to find something positive right now everything going in the other direction so how are you going to respond when you've been hitting the mouth early in this football game got to find something positive quick [Applause] he'll try to tack on one more extra point and with the extra point they pushed the lead out a little further they got the ball in great field position and Bam Bam two plays and into the end zone about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown kick here he comes from inside his own five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 Fresno State takes over and the offense will go back to work he's looking to throw it not a lot of time left here in the half let's see if they can cut into this lead and this drive isn't a must score but man you look at the scoreboard you're two scores Jesse you got a good opportunity create some momentum cut it to a onore game this is an important possession yeah it's important to create that momentum now David to and not wait to get it going here at the start of the third quarter you got one drive here to get a couple of points you've got to start erasing and chipping away at this deficit this could be where the game turns right here and not much doing there as that defense runs him out of bounds nice completion nice short gain now it sets up third down and wait a minute third down now becomes we're going to go for it on fourth down anyway so it really doesn't matter that much great job getting a little chunk now we get to go have some fun back to throw it's Kean unleashes It On the Run and they wanted it all on third down but now dealing with fourth down and how loud is it in this building this is crazy this these fans are going absolutely nuts and I used to love when the fans got involved and I'm on defense because it messes with the snap count it messes with the communication and it can really rattle on offense fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way on the return it's Morgan coverage team able to put a stop to that return at the 42 yd line and here comes the Michigan offense back on the field wants to throw on first down he'll pull it down and run a really nice run and gain and he gets down to avoid taking punishment you know QBs want to make those big plays they want to they want to put up the big stats but when nothing's there sometimes you just tuck the ball get a minimal gain I like the slide by the way too get down and don't take a big hit now on first down from the 43 yd line he wants to throw still looking on the Move On The Run and he'll slide to avoid the hit a Nifty pick up there he does a good job of dropping back going through his progressions nothing there what do I do go get some yardage make it positive don't sit back in the pocket and force something into a bad situation or take a sack great job making something out of nothing here comes the offense on second down he's looking to throw fires to the wide out and the ball is intercepted didn't really have room to operate on the return but he hands him the ball at the 32 and I tell you what when defenses Play Zone all eyes are on the quarterback you have a Zone to drop to but you're setting on the quarterback reading his eyes great job by the defense understanding the ball was coming out breaks on the football goes and makes the [Applause] int here comes the Fresno State offense onto the field running out of time here in the first half and they do have a chance to make this a one possession game and so you got to locate your best players and get them the football on this drive you're down in the game there's obviously a lot of football left David but on this drive in this two-minute situation best players got to touch the ball and this could get into pressing mode right like you go into the half down a couple of scores it starts to the pressure really really mounts good opportunity to take some of that pressure off get some momentum energize this squad going into halftime coming after him looking to scramble and the quarterback was trying to extend the play and the defense brought it to a close referee signals timeout it's the defense wanting to make sure that they have everything just right with a big play coming probably the toughest call on the play sheet third and long Ball's at the 25 quarterback touch pass on the Jet Sweep and the ball's loose in the back field defense swarming on that loose ball it'll be a turnover and the unthinkable just happens you're the offense you're trailing in this game late in the first half you're trying to be aggressive you're trying to put some points on the board but can't turn the ball over and now all of a sudden they've given it back and there's an opportunity for the opponent now to widen their lead Michigan ready to get that offense rolling again after that last pick David they really need to take care of the ball this time no doubt and Palmer I want to know what Spurrier said to you on the sideline after a pick do that again and you'll be right here beside me for the rest of the game you got to go out you got to call your plays and I hope this coaching staff isn't going to be afraid to throw at this dve and the Wolverines are in the Red Zone looking for a man it's orgy quarterback moving out of the pocket he gets the job done picking up the first down then getting down the offense waste no time getting the timeout call nice job by the QB sitting back in the pocket you can tell he wants to throw the football go through progressions nothing home take off and slide I love the slide at the end don't snag In The End Zone touchdown [Applause] Wolverine and a really nice job understanding I got to get to that Gap where there's a little bit of open space in the middle of the field when I run that post route QB lays it out for him and he catches it gets two feet in bounds in the end zone touchdown [Applause] lining up to tack one more onto that lead the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead quick strike offense on that three Place scoring drive and they cap things off with a nyd touchdown pass just about set to kick it away from inside is 10 he'll try to help out their field position he was looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 from the gun they'll try to impose their running game and that's why you do explosive work in the waight room arm day is a good thing as he gets to the 23 first half in the books time now to join Kevin Connor in our halftime update guys it is tough to beat the big house when it's full and rocking as it is today in an arbor an entertaining first half and we've got a multi-p possession lead to breakdown thanks to the surgical Precision of this offense might honestly take more time to talk about what didn't work than what did the running game the passing game Gadget plays at worked now it's just a matter of finishing the job and with that let's send it back to the guys in the Big House Fresno State lined up to kick off and start this second half he'll start the return inside his five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 guys Here Come Those Maze and blue winged helmets on offense they'll open this third quarter with a run got room at the 35 and they'll finally get him down after a terrific pick up in halftime in this locker room there's a lot of positive things to talk about you got the lead but you know what else will be positive Palmer get the running game going early in this second half you're absolutely right here and I think this coaching staff is going to try to put this game on the offensive line a little bit let these guys take this thing over be physical and push this defense around they're getting this guy lathered up and he's able to find a little bit of Running Room before they get him down you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive coordinator you pick up a bunch of yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense got eight on first down now looking at a second and two fast motion from the offense the give to the tail back so far everything's just seemed to work for this offense when they wanted to run the football regardless of what down and distance it is they're able to get it done up front getting a lot of push and these backs are finding the holes the Wolverines come to the line with a fresh set of [Applause] downs here's the hand off and he has a gain before the defense bottles him up yeah this coaching staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm now they're letting him drive off the ball on first down on these running plays they're getting chunks of yardage got six on first down now a lot of options on second and four try to get it to the edge they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one they're trying to run the football there's just no nowhere to go for the ball carrier inside he tried to bounce it to the outside that linebacker way too fast he met him there and forced the tfl here they come on third down and the defense has had no answer so far the offense showing motion from the tight end trying to get a read on the D to the air it's orgy getting some heat and a missed opportunity on third down as the defense Knocks free and fourth down is coming up this is a point where you just got to be able to focus and the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you've got to be able to make that play and the Wolverines will bring the punt team onto the field he ought to be able to use his first punt to pin him deep and the punt will hit at the one just a little too far for them to be able to down it it'll be a touch back and come out to the 20 nice move to stay on his feet he'll get it up to about the 32 yd line before he stopped and it'll be first down when you're a defense you have a choice do you play man or do you play zone they sat back in zone that might change they might change their mind and try to switch to man here shortly in the future the Bulldogs want to move quickly running back searching for a hole they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one don't you love energetic defenses that fly around that make things happen the ones that get in the back field the running back tries to go somewhere where do you want them to go they're is nowhere to go nice job by the defense creating the tackle for a loss on first down lost one on that last one it's second and 11 he's looking to throw really nice stop there from this senior [Applause] leader we reached the end of the period and Michigan has the lead they built a comfortable lead after three qu of play Let's Take a look at how we got here one more period to go and we'll see just how much fight they've got left in them now facing a third and long looking to pass it's Keem got a man and the defense makes the immediate tackle but he has enough for the first down the offense has struggled they're not going to win this game but trust me this coaching staff is still trying to find things to build off of for next week and after an explosive play like that maybe they can generate just a little bit of momentum and gain a little bit of confidence that they can keep coaching up heading into their next game they'll throw it on first down how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion this offense has been suffocated by a sea of Maze and blue reminiscent of what the national champion Wolverine D did in 97 holding their opponents to single digits and it's at every level I mean just a great job being physic up front locking down in the secondary Michigan defenses are always on point they don't give up silly and they got him he'll get him down for the sack I got to give this defense a lot of credit they were very confident coming into this one even though they were going up against one of the best quarterbacks in the entire country they're confident because they believe in their ability to get to him and they've been able to do that in this game there's another sack here l this is a third and long he's looking downfield to throw and he feels the heat coming and it burns him up another sack and they get him again this has not been the day we expected this young man we expect great things like he is one of the better players in college football think he'd come out put on a show but this defense has had his number all game long on fourth down going to the air throws to the wide out complete downfield they got him free for a big gain down to the 43 well this offense has not put their best product on the field today they've got no points to show for any of their efforts so far but they've still got a chance but if it's going to happen it has to happen now in this two-minute situation this is where their Playmakers need to step up coming out on first down with the play fake pressure coming good job to avoid the negative play and just get rid of that thing well the defense came into this one knowing if they stop the pass they win the game and they have done that their guys have won one-on-one on Islands they've been able to get to the quarterback they've been mixing up their looks they haven't even allowed a 100 yds passing in this one and that's why they are way ahead here in the fourth quarter looking down field it's ke this time he's got him well you hear all the time that the tight ends the QB's best friend you saw a perfect example of it on that last play right second down you need to pick up some positive yards to keep this third down manageable really nice job of executing that and the Bulldogs headed quickly to the line two minutes now left in this one and time is running short if they want to find a way to pull this one out a third down try for the offense looking to throw for it they're bringing Heat and there was nowhere to go for this quarterback and down he goes and man is that a just indictment of the day your quarterback getting drilled late in the football game this offense is sputtered they haven't found any kind of good Rhythm they haven't done things that that really gives your coach confidence and makes you want to believe in them this offense has a lot of work to do before their next football game on fourth down they'll throw for it right down the middle and this will throw incomplete and they'll turn it over on Downs offense getting set for first down wide receiver now comes in motion touch pass on the Jet Sweep continuing to turn and move it forward and they're closing in on Midfield it's down at the 48 running game worked on first down let's see if they go back to it on second [Applause] down they run the reverse still running at the 40 and he will finally go out of bounds after another big gain and they are absolutely gashing them with this running game defensively I've got to be able to communicate and you can call him a receiver if you want to ree but this guy you know how Dynamic he is with the ball in his hand so I got to understand leverage and when he goes in motion when he gets the football I got to understand how to make sure I keep him inside make all of my guys inside run inside outs of the football make the play defense has to do a better job communicating and understanding that guy is a weapon huge play puts them in the red zone and now they'll snap it first and 10 from the 15 he's all the way down to the three and Electric Run has set up and the defense down in this game they just can't do anything to stop this offense at this point David right now they know they're going to be trying to run the football and try and Ice the game but there's nothing at this point it seems they can do yeah and it's frustrating I got to sell out man I I got to bring as many guys to the line of scrimmage as I can I got to find a way to get this ball back to my offense the the clock is not my friend and then running the football is only going to run this thing out quicker I got to find a way to make something Happ stri the football do something [Music]
