hook up for B yeah ma'am he really does well know Zach didn't Zach get a half a cal recently I there's there's a lore to it we uh we're working on getting some refrigeration and some uh like refrigerator and an extra freezer ability to it's it is it is good to go like I I eat that meat all year do half a cow and half a pig every year y I may have to look into that FAS you want some figure out that it's wood they'll they'll pick at it like 20 times and then realize oh that's wood then they'll move to another spot and then they'll pick at a wall you know chickens might be the dumbest animal that's rough yeah out outside of human well if human certain hum yeah certain humans qualify yes chicken or human that's a contest we Today's Poll Question should do hey by the way today's poll question and we'll get to it to the second segment are the Reds OD of the playoff race and are the Guardians legit it's a two-parter Bo I mean out of the didn't the season just start a month ago there are Matt look at the standings in baseball there are like seven to 10 teams I'm not making this up that are already out of it in baseball that's no fun I mean it's funny we were just talking about this the other day because I mean I grew up a Reds fan Big Red Machine and I was at Pete's game where he got the hit you know to break the record loved Eric Davis back in the day actually got to meet Eric Davis when I was playing with the with the Jets one time when he was kind of on the swan song with Baltimore and I cannot tell you aside from Ellie De La Cruz one other person on the Reds team right now I used to go down you know 10 12 games a year still in when I was living here in Columbus but man it just it's rough like they just they they haven't done anything I don't think they have the horses Sam disagrees and I I'll get to it baseball just released its 100 top prospect list and it wasn't great for Red's fans so they gotta do a salary cap in baseball let's be honest they gotta do a salary they need they need to have the NFL model but it's never gonna happen no because they'll sit out two years Matt they'll sit out honest to God NHL set out a year and a half how long will baseball players sit they'll sit out like three years yeah I mean but just make you can make it a gigantic number if you want I mean the money's there like again we're talking with with billionaires billion dollar teams make it a big number and and just and but you gotta make it fun no one watches the players union will never let it happen that's that's the that's the problem in reality you've gota you've gota the the representation for the players is is probably the the most powerful Union in the world it's good for them sucks well no I agree I think football sucks if if you had if you had parody in Major League Baseball and I I know again we've talked about this in the past where baseball is a regional sport if you get parody where it's no longer just the giant market teams competing to win World Series every year in year in and year out it's going to be better for the sport I think you'll I mean look at what they've done already with the the pitch clock it's people are coming back to the ballpark and people are tuning in more so and the pizza boxes for bases yeah I mean I think that I think that that's why Reds fans have been been disenfranchised for the last probably 10 15 years is when you have a good player it's just a matter of time that you know yeah they're good because they're still on a rookie deal they're about to be a free agent I mean same thing's gonna happen with De La Cruz like he's gonna get paid eventually one deal they'll sign him to one deal when he's in arbitration right so like his fourth year they'll sign him to like a fiveyear deal but he'll get like in his late 20s 27 28 29 they'll be out of it they think oh man do we want to pay this guy two more years and they'll trade him yeah I I see I disagree to to a degree I think when you got a guy they gave a 10-year contract to Joey vad signed him for big money that contract's now off the books you now have the ability if you are the Reds to go out and spend the money on a a player like d La Cruz now whether or not they do it is a whole another I think issue historically they have not spent money well I mean again they had they the problem again this goes back the issue with major league baseball and you know no parody you have teams like the Indians you have teams like the Reds these these smaller markets can't sign bad big bad contracts or at least they can but it takes them longer to recoup or recover from you know essentially the wasted money whereas you have Dodgers can sign you know three or four guys to 200 700 million contracts in an off season yeah I mean the look at the the historical payrolls of the Red Sox and the Yankees It's just is Bobby Bon still getting money he money they can they can pardon the pun swing and Miss where where markets like the Reds can't yeah yeah had to just see Otani over the weekend he said through his translator this one doesn't gamble his money uh said through translator he might be good just batting and not pitching again because of the injury it's like dude you're making like 50 million a year I don't think you have a choice just be DH I mean he's having a good year but I don't think Otani could just say yeah I just want to be DH and make 50 million a year the reason why they got him is every fifth day he can go off out there and Pitch seven Innings and give you another dominant starter I don't think the the Dodgers paid you 50 million a year whatever the hell they pay him to just get hey go be DH and we're good go go be DH doesn't matter contract's done yeah but but it's all deferred money too yeah yeah contracts de hey Matt how does that work though if you sign a deal and we're signing you to be a 2way player how does that work in contract can a guy just say you know let's say it happened in the NFL Matt where you were a defensive lineman and you played left tackle and that's why they signed you and then you said yeah I don't want to play offensive tackle I just want to be a defensive line yeah I mean there's nothing I mean and obviously I haven't been in an NFL contract in a minute but um at the time and I can't imagine there is anything that is position specific in any deal that's structured I don't think that You' be able to do that um I mean if you want to move a guy from left tackle to right tackle or you know guard to Center or DN to linebacker if you change your scheme I just I don't think that that's anything specific but I mean I get where this is a special case where the expectation is he's gonna be able to do this and this and now he's not doing one of those things but on the flip side if it's due to injury and he's saying like look you know this is what I'm comfortable doing with injury maybe a year from now that it's gonna change you know if he just if he signed the contract and then just said eh I'm not pitching anymore I just don't feel like it Dodgers probably would have a pretty strong case in arbitration or in court yeah that's what I mean keep in mind the Dodgers signed sh oton this contract when his UCL was blown out so yeah I would imagine too they knew kind of what they were getting into when they signed the deal yeah they were happy with him not pitching this year they even said that said we're fine with not him pitching but they said the plan was for him when he's able to pitch take a year away play DH and pitch for him to come out go well I don't know if I want to now that just might be him saying I'm really comfortable playing DH and just lost through translation type of thing where hey I feel really good I like this I let's keep doing it hahaa hey for 50 million a year how about learning English so you can figure these things out I don't know just an idea you know I asked merker about that I'd put that in my contract like I would like to be able to communicate yeah he because he said he wanted to be able to to talk and and come back and uh fraternize with the with the fans you know he he felt like he Ed to the fans to learn English or how about doing a you know a sponsorship deal well I've got a question for you and Tor I thought of this over the weekend ishiro Suzuki what was the name on the back of his jersey icho sh Otani what's the last name on the back of his jersey I don't know Otani Otani yeah who wants to explain and they're both from Japan so maybe it's part of Japan like kind of the Mr Miyagi thing right where they practice this type of karate where Mr Miyagi was from and then they do a nether stle somewhere else it could be I don't know the well Mr Miyagi was from um uh where was he from he it wasn't like [ __ ] was Japanese was he like Cambodia or LA or something no it was wherever the Air Force Base was I can't remember the name of it now but yeah it was it was a different different place you know I I was I was asking uh MC this one time about Ellie De La Cruz about should he because because last year he could barely speak English I said wouldn't it benefit him to learn English I brought that up and he said well I'm not sure there's a lot of guys who don't speak English in baseball and then this year he did a pretty damn good job of learning English you could tell it's something he's working on I'm with you Matt wouldn't okanawa by the way OK yes I would think that from oani that maybe English is something because it because it would open up commercials right yeah I mean if you look at like look at like Yao Ming you know I mean and he was doing very broken English but then started to get some endorsement deals I mean you gotta be able to speak to do a commercial here I mean learned from porn I mean I guess that you know you're making enough money to where it's not an issue I mean $50 million a year what's another couple million from you know McDonald's I guess but I why not it's so easy doesn't need to learn English he knows odds and numbers that's all he needs to know he Lear so so easy money and then you can cover on Philadelphia was his first words yeah you can cover your gambling losses with your McDonald's money you don't have to worry about cutting in your contract you know you would think though a guy who just got if he got swindled out of these millions of dollars would be sitting at like um like on the plane listening to Rosetta Stone yeah I'd be learning English real quick if you stole millions of dollars from me because I didn't understand the language I would definitely be learning English ASAP I would I don't know why i' be using I would do nothing but use my phone in the Google Translate app for interaction that I had doesn't he also look way too happy for a guy that just got swindled out of at least $17 million H he didn't get swindled he lost I think it's that was my that's my point yeah he lost that money let's not get ourselves well speaking of I guess cheating and swind swindling we can go a and get into this Urban Meyer was in the news over the weekend and I don't know what the Urban Meyer Comments on NIL publication he was doing the interview with but more or less he said and I believe this was the quote that nil and college football has evolved into cheating and so I guess my question for both of you is he right yeah well yeah let's let's explain the comment though first before we get into it all right here's the comment by Urban he say is if you're a woman basketball player you're from Iowa they put up a billboard payer you should be able to do that if a guy's doing a car commercial and you give him a car do that he said but the problem is now is kids are showing up at a charity event going hey give me my $50,000 right he says if they have help sell cars you want to use their name sell a jersey that's fine but kids now are saying all right I'll visit your school pay me uh I go visit a charity go to a hospital for 20 minutes write me a check for 50 Grand I think he is spoton because what the NL nil if you if you read the what it's supposed to do and then what they're doing are two different things the problem is who's going to enforce these rules because the NCAA Matt is the Washington generals of of lawyers they're GNA lose every lawsuit so there's kind of like a you know wild wild west where there's no law enforcement in this nil there's it absolutely absolutely is that way and urban is right and it is cheating and everyone's doing it because you have to I mean you're at a Tipping Point now where I mean I've talked to guys at multiple programs who were trying to do things the right way and not breaking the rules and not paying players to come on campus but then I mean I had one coach flat out tell me he's like you know for two years we've been playing by the nil rules and then Georgia just refuses to and they don't get in trouble they don't get caught and they can't so we have to just do what Georgia does I mean and that's the pervading sentiment through college football is like there is there are no rules nil isn't nil it's pay forplay everyone knows this so I mean the the only way to remedy this I think the IRS is obviously looking at this and getting get involved the collectives are are nervous not super nervous because what's the IRS isn't going to retroactively come into their money laundering schemes that they've legally allowed I don't know I've had some stuff from three years ago I've gotten a little letter I just paid yeah but they can't that's that's an AUD they can't change policy you can't retroactive policy you know back the deck like well now you're not a 501c3 and that doesn't count anymore and we're going to go back five years and take away all that as well now that being said I've talked to the collective guys and they're like yeah but that's seven years away the IRS as we all know is a government agency and moves at a glacial pace so there you know even if they wanted to do something tomorrow to change these rules and to take away strip the 501c3 status make it a different designation or what yeah you're five to seven years from that happening what's gonna have to happen is guys like Urban Nick Sabin Jean all these guys getting into a room which I think that they're doing at this point I think behind the scenes this is happening and they're GNA come up have to come up with a different governing body the NCA is feckless it can't enforce any of this it's Antiquated it's shown no no desire to change so they've got to change by doing something totally different and I think that's the issue right there you touched on Matt is all of these rules were put into place right you basically couldn't induce a player with nil money it was once you were here once you were signed we can go out and find your deals um so the the intent was there I guess at the beginning of it even though the NCAA maybe took a little too long to get to this point however basically these courts have come out and said you can't enforce it anyway so now it has become the wild wild w so I guess the intent I I don't want to give the NCAA too much credit here so don't don't mistake what I'm saying but there was guard rails there were rules in place that basically came out and said you can't you can't enforce so I think what they're gonna have to do and I know that I've I've said this before it's you're gonna have to basically make these players and and I think it's going to be all it's going to be all student athletes it's going to be the lacrosse and the pistol team and the and the fencing team up to the football players they're all going to be in some way shape or form a employee of the university and that way you're able to revenue share the TV dollars because that's the only way that the universities and by the way the universities want to do this the athletic departments I believe want to do this because right now the donor base for every University is gone no one's donate I mean there was a large new football facility project on the books for Ohio state that has since been mothballed I think they're trying to resurrect it but it stopped when niled happen because they money had to be funnel to nil it couldn't be funnel to the university anymore through donations and so I I think that you're gonna have to see some of the revenue sharing come out with TV contracts and I think that's got to be just across the board like hey here's the here's here's the Olympic sport level this is what you're getting here's the revenue generating Sports the football basketball here's what you're getting I mean you can you can tier it by your seniority so freshman sophomore junior senior whatever it is and that's your base and then nil has to be true nil so if you're Caitlyn Clark and you can go get a State Farm commercial great and you sign with State Farm they write that off in their marketing budget everything's across board if if Riker wants to give you a car perfect like you get the car from Riker you know however that works you got to claim that on your taxes and everything else I mean Tor you know how that works you've done it I've done it I mean it is what it is and and nil can be true nil you can cut them in for the for a piece of the jerseys you can cut them in for these things but right now anyone that thinks nil is nil it's blatantly pay for play that's all that it is I think blatantly play for play I think at the beginning that was kind of what we were all sold right about the car deals and stuff like that we all bought it the jerseys and all like little Johnny can't get the money from his jersey well Little Don Johnny doesn't care about the money from his jersey he cares about the 50 Grand in the duffel bag that you're going to give him exactly the real thing the school stopped selling the jerseys and you'd only have like two jerseys the year it was one right and that was it no one was selling anything else so schools even pulled back on the jersey sales because they didn't want to get in hot water from the players like they were selling their money uh you know I I was talking to G Smith last week about this he said absolutely when he retires he's going to go to Paradise Valley and if you've been to Phoenix it's one of the better probably better than Scottdale and he said hey I I don't plan on doing anything but I said would you join a committee to help figure this out he said absolutely 100% I so I think you're right Matt guys guys like Kim need to get together with other Smart Guys and you nailed it with with Sabin and urban and then maybe some University presidents to figure out this thing I don't think it's too hard every oh it's G be impossible no it's not there's a lot of smart dudes in this sport a lot of like all these chancellors and presidents are like former attorneys a lot of them are like very successful attorneys they're not stupid people you get in I I think a lot of it is kind of one of those things Matt where all right we know this is busted but it's kind of working good and we're getting a lot of money let's just see how far we can go before this is totally you know it's kind of like driving a car you like this car you know it's going your transmission's blowing but you're just trying to get two more weeks out of your car before you could because it's a pain in the ass to go get a new one or get it fixed I I think it's more that the coaches and everything are just putting it up with it because I think there's more going on behind the scenes than we know I think that they're they're actively working on this because the coaches hate it the coaches absolutely hate what's happening right now and I think you're going to drive good coaches out of college football because of what's happening in nil Nick Sabin being one I mean obvious choice I always tell people in my my day job the hardest thing to do is to pull the trigger proverbially Once you pull the trigger it's all downhill from there so I think what they have to do and and when I say they it's the the the Talking Heads the powers that be the universities all they have to do is get it done and once they get it done or once they down that path I think it's all downhill from there they just got to pull the trigger well I mean what's what's the cost of this you would think like it's not think of the money that the ESPN ABC CBS FOX think of the TV contracts for just college football just college football don't I mean and and they've got to be paying for everything else too because every sport is now on some streaming service you can watch softball games baseball games what every sport is on a streaming service you pass the you pass the cost of this to the players to the content people who should be paying it anyway the streaming services the TV entities the Big 10 NW works yeah yeah I mean ABC NBC CBS they need to pay this and then just go get the money from the ad Revenue like that's that's all you have to do because it's a better Revenue generator I guarantee you than Major League Baseball English Premier League soccer Formula 1 racing college football is is better in America than all of those things combined yeah and Matt what they can do from from a sales standpoint before we hit a break here is you can make it a bigger package so if you're Ohio State you could sell a let's give me any you know like uh we'll use our buddy George Kaufman at buyers right and sell him like a I'm just using fictitious numbers because I have no idea but like hey George you know buyers why don't you spend 25 million on the school and you're helping the school but you're also financing helping the athletic department they could take part a little bit of that money put it into the players and take a little bit of money if they're worried about the athletic department use it to the athletic department and kind of sell it as a bundle you know when you're when you're buying from us this goes here we get this this goes to the new football facility and you sell it as a package too and you can even make more money well to do that they're gonna have to start they're gonna have to actually start doing their doing work again like Ohio State at one point sold their own advertising did their own trademark and Licensing now you've got learfield that's taking their their chunk of change out of it go back to to having those departments internally you cut out millions and millions of dollars from learfield give that money to the players and and the student athletes now instead of giving it to learfield I people realize how big learfield is with Ohio State right now system huge if the system is going to change across the entire college football landscape the conferences the universities are also going to have to change how they do business I think maybe that's the reluctance of why this is moving slowly or why we haven't seen or heard more you know actionable items taking place I mean I think that again and I you know having been a former employee of the university for 10 plus years you see kind of behind the curtain of how things work the the foresight of a lot of these institutions is so short they don't see like by doing this little thing now it's going to be so much better in five years they see you know however you want to phrase it free labor Free Labor Free Labor we don't have to pay you know this money isn't coming out of our pockets right now eventually it's going to have to so why not be on the Forefront why not make sure that you've got the model in place that everyone else is going to follow and be on the Forefront of this because eventually it's going to be better for the athletes and then you're gonna you're gonna get more you're gonna recruit better all those things but you've got to be Forward Thinking and unfortunately an Academia just doesn't happen very often because they're not they don't live in the real world yeah and I I I like what you're saying Matt too with the because worry about well if there's a certain amount that players can make then then why would they go to Ohio State if everything same well just because what you mentioned about the car deals and different things like that kids will still get their money and they're GNA get the extra perks for going to Ohio State so nothing will change if if if not things will be greater for them in the yeah I mean it's all it's going to be a better scenario I mean and the rich are always going to be richer than the poor it just that's that's life sorry I mean it is what it is like you can't you can't create a level level playing field but I think that you've got to do something to to just take away the blatant I mean look what we did this year in in n i mean I don't like it it is what it is like it's I mean I'm not mad about it but I mean it feels dirty doesn't it it feels dirty what we're you know paying Caleb DS and Julian saian and all these guys all this money it feels like we're like we're doing something wrong doesn't it I mean I get that we're not but and you know hopefully we win a National Championship of it but it doesn't feel like college sports it doesn't feel like college football I mean and there's got to be a middle ground we went from one extreme to the absolute other where the answer and almost everything else in life is always in the middle I think it is here too we just haven't gotten there when we that's a hard sell for you huh it is yes by the way today's poll question are the Reds out of the Reds and Guardians baseball updates playoff race and the Guardians legit uh I I just don't think the Reds have the guns I just don't uh they came out with an updated top 100 prospects there's four Reds on it one's an outfielder and one's suspended for 80 games and the other two play shortstop or third base so it's kind of where they're loaded at that shortstop Third Base uh I think the reds are out of it I think the Brewers and the Cubs are the team to beat in that Division and I think they'll go out and make moves with the and the Reds have been awful at home this year with the Guardians great at home I listen they're in with the the twins the Royals and the Guardians are all kind of interchangeable at first place right now uh Guardians have a good series against the Rangers it'll be it'll be fun I think it's on national TV tonight so I think the Guardians are legit because of the division they're in and I think just like Vince McMahon would say his theme song no chance in hell that the Reds have an opportunity to contend this year it's I mean I love merker but but it's baseball man like I go there to drink beer yeah hockey either FAS you're stick in the mud I don't mind hockey I go there to drink beer as well it's that's what I'm saying drink I like hockey better like in person better than baseball hockey is probably the best best sport to watch in person I'll find absolutely yeah probably the worst probably the worst on TV in it's not good on TV no it's no it's hard I mean even remember when Fox tried to use the little like the laser lightning Puck yes I mean to try I mean in like I I appri highlighted Puck so you could follow it on SLAP shots it had a like a flame behind it yeah so hard have you guys seen the broadcast that had the players names now with like The Arrow on it have you seen that from time to time they'll they'll alert you like who's on the ice on the bottom like certain if you have the how long they're on and stuff yeah how long they're on and I mean I'm if if my TV's on sports right now until the fall it's horse racing basically that's all I that's all I'm turning off you're gambling aren't you Phoenix yes absolutely Phoenix I mean Fus yeah uh so so Tor I I'm with you on the on the Indians I think they the the biggest advantage and I've always said this is they play in a bad division so they've got some guys that are playing well right now they probably surprised some people but I don't know why it's a surprise when you're playing in that division that they're they're competitive oh the white so might be the worst team in the history of baseball too who the white socks white so oh they're bad uh I I will I will disagree with you to this point on the Reds uh they're what the 29th offense in the league right now now they they went on an eight game Bender but just the same that they went on an eight-game slide last year they went on a 16 game win streak so yeah their their offense is not going to be as bad as H it as at as it has been to this point some of the pitching starting to come around I think their Bullpen still needs some work they're going to start scoring some more runs and just as easy as easily as they went on that eight game Bender they could win eight games in a row too so they're only three and a half games out of a wild card potentially seven games out of the the central they're not out of it yet I think that's short-sided we're what maybe not even a quarter of the way through the season yet yeah yeah there's 1889 games to go don't Don't Stop Believing just play some Journey and you'll you'll get through it well now I want to know how many games they've played so 1720 they played 40 games yeah there's a lot of season left yeah what they play 162 162 who came up with that number what a weird number that's a really obscure number so weird like ah 160 is not good enough let's do two more 162 should be right what about 165 nah it's too many you may4 I believe wasn't it 154 at one time yes do you guys know that the Major League Baseball schedule the entire schedule is done by hand by a husband and wife and has been done for like 25 years or something like that that's sounds about right for baseball I mean they still have writers that don't vote in guys for the Hall of Fame just to be JS well and I I would imagine imine that like there's computer programs that can do it now maybe back then there weren't but it's literally done by a couple yeah old old Nextdoor Neighbors in Milwaukee back in 1935 gbt could do that in like maybe 30 seconds they really could yeah hey you guys making a big deal uh Mother's Day weekend LeBron's wife posted a picture of bronnie in a Buckey Jersey dude let Bronny James to the NBA him go pro we don't I don't want him here we don't want him here there somebody else that's logical and has some reason on this let him go pro he's not good I mean do you think of the coach killing dad that comes along with that and the power that he wields with the money that he throws at this University and and headphones and shoes I mean if I'm Jake debler I am doing everything possible to I mean that's a I don't think first of all I think he's going to go pro because I don't think his dad's gonna play much longer and they want to play together for whatever that's worth so sorry Lakers fans you get you get stuck with a bronny team yeah who's not worth anything yes but I remember when he was coming out and like the discussion kind of behind the scenes of the basketball program was like dodged a bullet dodged a bullet there not him with him not coming here and I mean not like C not Holtman or anybody but there was a lot of guys like in the nil space and former players and stuff that knew that him coming here would have been uh you know LeBron isn't going to be a hands-off guy and he would have been right in the middle of it and just a first time head coach firsttime head coach making two and a half million dollars a year LeBron makes that in a week in the NBA there are gonna be so many headaches that come along with that what did he do he went to a couple games at USC last year he didn't say anything maybe because he wasn't playing his kid wasn't playing he had scoring 5.9 points a game like two minutes a game or something yeah I I he played as the season went along but it wasn't a pain in the ass there I just think that's just overblown I I guess it's a risk reward thing like the eyes will be on your program right does that attract more recruits does that attract more dollars to Ohio State if you're having LeBron's kid I agree his kid's not good uh his kid was cleared by the way for the NBA and uh Rich Paul is is kind of getting chatty about him too about oh we don't have to have an excl Ive Laker thing too the the the bottom line is if LeBron's kid was out of the draft right and he was bronnie mcgillicuty that kid's not even gonna play it probably Ronnie mcil would be playing at Oakland University in Michigan right now and right absolutely Kentucky it's it's the name recognition and then you have to decide whether the name recognition and the money that you could bring in is worth the pain in the ass that it could be I didn't hear any bad things about LeBron and USC last year well but but here's the here's the Catch 22 for Ohio State you've already got that LeBron already supports the program you don't have to bring his kid in for him to support the program and get free Beats headphones and whatever else he gives to the guys so why jeopardize that by bringing in his kid who you know is not a good basketball player let someone else take that risk and USC did it and probably LeBron at the at the end of the day I mean he does live in fantasy land on quite a few things but I do believe he knows basketball and he knows his kid is not really that good and he's totally leveraging his position and power and who he is to to play a season or I mean if someone plays a season with that kid that be shocking at the NBA level but I mean he knows exactly what's going on and what's what's happening so I don't think that there's any kind of you know mystery as to what Bron's situation is at wherever he's at would you say he influences players like if you look at all four majors right and you like what player could influence a kid the most I think probably LeBron has the power to influence anyone from a recruiting standpoint I mean in football there's great players Matt I'm sure at Ohio State you were looking forward to seeing someone or when you were playing like oh my God so and so sitting on the sideline this is awesome but I don't think anyone out there when it comes to the poll that he has and listen if bronne comes here he's probably want it done anyway right so it's not like he's going to be staying here four years and it's going to benefit you of a recruiting cycle after recruiting cycle after recruiting cycle to bring players in that's kind of the down part of it but boy the influence that LeBron has on young people don't discount that yeah I mean that's the hard part of it I don't know what that is now as compared to you go back 10 years ago huge I mean I remember being at the national championship game standing on the sidelines in the fourth quarter and like literally LeBron came and Stood Beside Me and there was not because he knew who the hell I was that's just where he went to stand but I mean the Entourage of people and cameras and everything that came with that was unbelievable I mean and think about when he was coming to games you know coming to the night games and urban had him coming to games and stuff here I agree with you 10 years ago that pull was huge I think and again I'm not an 18y old kid but I I bet that that has waned pretty substantially now as he doesn't have that attraction of I mean he's don't get me wrong still great basketball player still a huge icon of of of the sport but the Mystique of fandom that surrounded him when he you know came back to Cleveland won the championship that was Peak LeBron Peak LeBron no doubt about it Ohio loved him was I mean statues were going to be erected life was going to be good he was the king of Cleveland they were going to build whatever he needed there you know cover Lake area if you didn't like the smell of it whatever whatever it took he was they were going to make make it happen but when he left again and went to the Lakers I think all that went away to to this point a lot of it lost Jake debler has been able to go out to get the players that he wants to get I it's not there's not a recruiting issue I don't think there's a money issue in the Ohio State basketball program no they proved that they've they with the five stars they've gotten from Kentucky and Duke obviously they my my point is why why even take the risk of disrupting that at this point yeah that would be my point hey I tell you one positive of it and and I don't even think it happens I think he goes to the NBA for what Matt said to play with his dad that's the ultimate goal now listen he's going to be in the league he's going to be like the middle ball kid where he's gonna be playing in Argentina in like three years but he's gonna be the guy that sits with the fans way down on the end where that one dude through the uh through the waving the towel like Jack you remember him with the but I'll tell you this it would be kind of good to be a fly in the wall and see how Jake debler handles something like that it would be interesting to see like you would you would tell right away or at least tell in a year if Jake deer's equipped for this job if he's the real deal right you get a distraction like that in your program because I'm sure bronny would want to play and then from a coaching standpoint you're look at and go well he's really not as good as the guys we have now right thoron Mei Johnson so you'd look it it would be kind of interesting to see how you'd handle that Dynamic from a coaching standpoint would he give in right to the demands of LeBron texting him like you know I don't know if LeBron does this but I'm sure all all you know I've talked to coaches dad's parents if you listen to Zach show parents can be a big pain in the ass right for kids so it would be interesting to see how Jake debler handled the situation of bronny James yeah I mean I think that you know the the jury is still out on Jake and what he's gonna be able to do at OSU that would it would have been an interesting scenario for sure I don't wish that on him I think he has plenty of other things that he's gonna have to deal with you know the expect and like you said dor I mean there's there's pretty significant dollars that are going into the nil and these players and I think the expectations have been been raised a little bit as to you know what they want to see happen here with Ohio State basketball so yeah I mean he has been able to go out and recruit I mean that was kind of his deal as as an assistant so that's been the easy part for him I think is to continue to make those relationships with you know Brian shottenstein and the foundation guys behind him with with a little bit of the money for the players so you know I mean it's it so far so good for Jake I mean I was the one that was kind of like yeah who knows and you just don't I mean you can you can get a you can get a gym Trestle you can get a Rich Rod like you just you never know when you have those guys with not a ton of experience that you're just bringing in and throwing Into the Fire hey speaking of Rich Rod the OV podcast.com sign up because we did a podcast like last week with Justin Bourne some great when Rich Rod showed up at Michigan stories oh my God that had to be horrible some great stories spoiler alert not a fan yes imagine I don't think he I don't think Rich Rod had many yeah I mentioned I don't know if I mentioned this in the podcast but it's a great story of when Rich Rod left Michigan or got fired from Michigan and then he took over in Arizona and he was talking to the players and he had his family here and I heard this from one of the former players uh Arizona players where richrod is doing his talking to the team this is my wife these are my kids and then he went into this big thing this is my daughter and she might have been like 13 or 14 at the time and don't look at her keep your hands off her and then players just thought it was really creepy that richrod would stop and say don't talk to my you know the whole daughter thing and it's like dude can't talk to your daughter dude yeah no one wants your daughter Rich Rod it's okay like no one's after your daughter bro yeah everyone's after Nick sabin's daughter yes Qui well when your dad's worth 700 million that's that's not a bad not a bad deal when we come back in 6 seconds Olive Garden if it was one of my boys I'd say we're not going like Olive Garden's closed Olive closed we got to go somewhere else I would if it was one of my boys I would but try dealing with a 16-year-old girl you're not winning that fight I'll do hard pass on that you are not winning hey you know I I was reading this NFL Rookie qb talk article and there was a lot of draft talk about Drake may he needed a lot of work uh There Was You know I I read an article where one coach said all right when you look at someone's film and it's not good you you think to yourself as a coach can I fix that there's some some things that you can fix and then some things you can't fix that was like Merl hodj was going off on and certain guys on Drake Mel and there's some parts of his game that are not fixable this week mini camp in New England where Gerard Mayo the coach says Drake May has a lot of work to do and when you look at the skill position players so does Gerard Mayo let's be honest exactly and when you look at the skill positions that they have where like is it was it Kendrick Bourne is their top receiver and no offensive line and the running back was ouchie last year I just look at Drake May and then I look at New England and go guys you got an offer of three first round picks where you draft skill players and you're gonna be bad next year and there's G to be quarterbacks next year it's not like quarterbacks are not going to be you're not going to be able to draft a quarterback in the next two three years I just when I look at Drake mayman I just look at it poor guy has no chance no I mean there was I mean there was a number of those guys I think aside from the top two guys taken and I'm I'm not a huge Caleb Williams fan either I don't think he's gonna succeed in the NFL um I think Daniels has the best chance to to be a quality quarterback and I think the rest of them are projects at best so you know to I think you know we talked about this after draft I think they absolutely should have traded down so many holes in that in that team so I mean this is the Patriots now are the Bengals and Browns five years ago where every position is a position of need you had no stars no nobody that you could really hang your hat in no foundation on the offense or defensive line they needed players they needed guys they didn't need to stretch and take a quarterback at at a position where you can't protect you don't have no one to throw to and no one to hand off to me just horrible decision all the way around but I mean it's why Robert Craft is doing shots on stage at the Tom Brady roast yeah Jalin P pulk the number two with Washington last year they drafted in the second round Kendrick Bourne and Demario Douglas who was a six round pick last year who are three guys I've never heard of for 5,000 Alex Kendrick relateded to Justin and Zack h no it's b o u r n e they don't have nil Harris anymore didn't they have nikil Harris no he's not good good guess Sam because the Patriots are the home of the white receiver uh KJ Bourne KJ Osborne's there who is the third guy in Minnesota bad and then Juju Smith shuster's there speaking look at that up Michigan and the your Vikings tour did you see the clip of JJ McCarthy missing a stationary coach by three yards yeah I saw that you don't have to say anything to me I mean listen I'm H you could poke I'm happy that means idiot GM and Kevin oconnell will be out in two years when you when you pick poorly now New England's got a pass I think Washington's got a pass Chicago doesn't have a pass if Caleb Williams is bad Ryan Pac is gone Matt he's Kevin so um Wilson yes I I they're all gone Minnesota if they strike out they're all gone everybody's gone yeah you got two years to make this happen if you went with JJ McCarthy they absolutely will be gone so my whole thing is they'll be bad next year they'll be bad in the next two years and next year they have the third most money to spend and fire them all and start new yeah I mean they're going to be talking about just that division Detroit's getting better yeah than they were last year I think that Jordan love has try has actually kind of figured it out a little bit and is a serviceable quarterback so he's probably the second best quarterback in that Division and they're not bad I mean Green Bay is not bad and Minnesota is is like you said they're gonna be horrible and Chicago went all in on Caleb Williams got him the receivers did all this stuff and he's gonna be a flop in the NFL mark my words he's not going to do well you had a guy in Justin Fields who was willing to put his body on the line and strung together wins like I mean there I would say 30 to 40% of the wins that happened for the Bears while Justin Fields were the was the quarterback was solely because of Justin Fields you had that guy and you refused to put anyone around him and so yeah I think the entire group of Chicago is going to be gone I think Drake May is is going to be a disaster in New England I think they're on a horrible rebuilding project I mean and here's the problem with New England too you built a dynasty around a culture it wasn't players necessarily I mean yeah you had players that fit the culture I mean you had guys like brui and and Mike and and you know and Tom and those guys that that fit in the culture but you build a team around the culture what's What's the culture there now yeah because you don't have one with Gerard mayo and and you don't have the players now either so New England's in some big big trouble and that's why it was so weird to me that you know they turned down three first round picks from Minnesota from the stand all right you're getting 11 this year you're getting 23 and then next year you're getting a top 10 pick for a quarterback who at best is a all right in three years he might be good I don't I don't get that I get the gimme gimme gimme I mean we need the quarterback now but without weapons but you don't need a bad quarterback that's the thing and a major blunder for because Minnesota's gonna have a top 10 pick next year and you passed all that for Drake may he better be an all proo every year well we said the same thing about Arizona didn't we we've got a franchise that's got all the holes it does why don't you trade back yeah but I don't think just talking from Arizona that the offers were there after the first three guys that's fair but you could still trade down yes acquire draft picks at least two first right you're if you're getting first and second you're getting players yeah so if you've got a franchise or Squad that's got all the holes it's a little heads scratching I I mean as much as I love Marvin Harrison why you would draft a wide receiver with that pick it just it's I mean I see that because I mean he's the most he's the he's the he's the not miss guy yeah you gotta help Kyler Murray yeah you gotta do something because I mean you had Kyler Murray back at the end of that I mean Kyler Murray plays well from time to time when he's when he's healthy so you got to hope now that having a full off offseason under his belt he's going to play a little bit better and you get now you give him a weapon again yeah if I if I was New England I actually would have if if Arizona wanted something I would have traded back a little bit and then drafted I would have no problem if I was New England drafted Marvin Harrison Jr because then next year when I'm ready to have a quarterback I know he's got a number one receiver I draft Drake May who is he throwing to These Guys these starters on New England right now Matt wouldn't even make a five deep on a good football team I mean you still got jacobe brassette don't they yes I think he's gonna be the starter if it's a true quarterback contest I think Jobe brassette beats did they they drafted the kid from um Tennessee too didn't they the one that got hurt Milton Milton yeah on the sixth round I bet he'll turn out better than Drake may he may I mean when he was healthy and good with Tennessee he could throw it I mean he had a strong isn't he like 26 though that could be who cares you don't get hit anymore as a quarterback you can play Forever yeah exactly all right let's quickly do what's on X uh Adam schfer tweeting out What's On X? NFL Thursday night September 5th regular season opener Ravens at the Chiefs absolutely love it absolutely love it so Brazil is not the opener this year no it's not okay I think that might be the next I think that's the next night though yes yeah yeah you can't beat that Ravens at the Chiefs can you no I mean they do they always do good the the I mean I know that in the um I'm I'm always in a Survivor pool every year week one I I will give it to the the NFL schedulers week one is the hardest week in in in the Survivor pool because they do really good with the matchups put like teams together you have good games now I mean obviously you can't do that every week because there's divisions and good teams are gonna play crap teams but I I think the NFL as a general rule of thumb knocks the first week out of the park every year all right this comes with a question to you guys following it Adam schfer again Antoine Winfield now the highest paid defensive back in NFL history he in the Bucks four years $84 million deal he was tagged I believe it was the first time in modern NFL history that a safety has set this Mark guys Ohio state has done a great job at cherry picking the best athletes out of Minnesota if you watched Antoine Winfield play when he was with the golfers I think I thought to myself every damn Saturday how did Ohio State Miss not getting this guy I mean tell you I I I know exactly why okay what happened Urban said he's too small okay and his dad his dad was like that too his his dad Matt Luke Luke fickle went into Urban's office and said why are we not offering Antoine Winfield Jr Urban's reply was he's too small Luke was like you you realize who his dad was correct and how small he was Urban said yep but we had I think at the time they had he's taller than his dad right his dad was 5'9 yeah I mean Antoine senior's yeah five n at most but I mean you think about the time of who they had too I think they had like Denzel Ward then like their Corners at that time and I think that he came out of high school not necessarily as a safety but kind of an in between guy I mean Ohio State at that time had their pick of anyone in the country and it was you know we had 61 62 corners and safeties I mean we that that was just kind of the Prototype back then and urban urban you know used The veto on it 59 so he's the same size as his D because I mean I I know for a fact Luke fought for him he wanted him I mean harder than he fought for Darren Lee and at the end of the day Urban said uhuh Matt you played did you play with his dad yeah yeah yeah he was our nickel back our senior year he was our he was our nickel uh we had Sean Springs and Ty Howard as our starting Corner good and then Antoine Winfield was our Nickelback that's good uh I'm not being homer I'm not being guy homer I'm not being Viking Homer because that's where Winfield played at the towards the end of his career I have not there's probably better Matt you'll probably throw out a a guy a name or two here and I'll go okay I'm wrong I have not seen a better pure tackler at corner than Antoine Winfield senior at corner probably not Corner yeah he I I play cuts my kid plays corner and I sent him YouTube clips of Antoine Winfield and said this is how you tackle he would double leg dudes I mean just absolutely Fearless and would I mean oh and that's what you have to be like especially on the edge like he would just he would come in he came in low he tack he I mean you always went down like he he always got you on the ground and was I mean we'd Blitz him like I mean I think once about Midway through the season there in 96 when we kind of realized what we had you know Puget started designing blitzes where we' bring that nickel more and because we were doing a lot of safety blitzes bringing Rob Kelly and and you know up up in the middle you know with cats and we and those guys but then kind of once the season progressed we started using Antoine off the edge and some switch stuff off the edge with him he was a beast and then Zimmer smart enough and I'm not a huge Mike Zimmer fan Zimmer smart enough at his end of career all right I'm gonna put him in the middle and have him play slot and I'm gonna get three more years from him yeah because I mean that's what that's what he did for you know that's what he learned yeah great tackler so underrated play he's not a Hall of Famer don't get me I'm not saying that if you want a textbook tackler put on some YouTube video of Antoine Winfield uh Jason Kelce I don't get this guys of the overreaction of why guys have to apologize for everything Jason Kelce on X I'm sorry everyone wasn't trying to get people riled up I just he made a comment of Secretariat being on steroids basically and because of it people went after him on social media and the apologies don't the horse from 50 years ago who cares exactly never apologize yeah never apologize well you're married first of all what was gonna happen if he didn't apologize that's different to who was going to who who was gonna not watch The Heights podcast yeah because that's really all of you know I mean what he has going like who does he have any endorsement deals is he doing Subway or something like who's not going to participate Studio show I don't know maybe's not parti because of that I mean just dude just suck it up who cares yeah maybe you got too many tweets and can't so dumb everyone needs to go to the Dana White School of Public Relations absolutely I'm with you there awful announcing Shannon sharp in ESPN near a multi-year contract you know he's hard to listen to man he's hard to listen to it's pure entertainment isn't it it's he is funny I mean I get it I mean he's got some great he's he's kind of like the Charles Barkley of of football yes I mean you know tells some funny stories has some great anecdotes analysis wise well man rough well well man it was kind of like last week I Michael Irving got released and I said you're not watching Michael Irving for him to break down X's and O's right you're watching him to be obnoxious over the toop animated and Shannon I'll give is a little bit better when analyzing the sport than Michael Irvin but you're not watching Irvin didn't know what the hell he was doing he's playing he just said run go go run post Shannon sharp is the sports version of TMZ he he all he's all he wants to do is stir up drama but as long as you know what he is right and that's ESPN yeah Stephen A Smith that's that's all they do I mean those those morning shows are terrible to watch because it's not substantive at all who was it was it was it papel Bond and Stephen A that were going back and forth where Pap Bond was calling calling Stephen A out that nobody on the Philly roster liked him and Stephen A came back and said he's gonna sue him yes that was recently too wasn't it it's like within the last couple weeks and papon's one of those guys that's got a screw loose but it's like you can call him a lot of things I don't know that a liar is one of them yeah I was watching that I was wondering what what the hell is like why is Papa bomb on my Tik Tock and what how the and why like who is this person and why is he on my do you have Tik Tok Tor why do you have Tik Tok oh dude Tik Tok is awesome dude my Tik Tok is like food recipes Game of Thrones and wrestling back to the Chinese knowing everything about those are three things I would not care to learn more about I know but what you care about it would show up on your algorithm at whatever you care about as a human being it will show up that's why that's why uh Elon is doing his a for you thing dude I bet you it keeps Elon up at night trying to figure out the algorithms couple real quick NBC Sports Big 10 Football Saturday night is back I like it Saturday Night Football then NBC at Fresno and Michigan who's the other uh Nebraska and Colorado I'll stay up late and watch that game and bet from a gambling perspective that's September it's my 40th birthday nice I mean that's I mean college football like you might as well just do it every day except Sunday and Monday I'm with you I mean they do I know they do like halfway THS like Max and starts on Tuesdays like halfway through the season yeah just do it man who's the week zero game in Dublin Ireland this year Notre Dame I don't think it's Notre Dame that was that was the weird thing I don't know asking us Matt or Matt and I don't know anything hell I don't know obviously but it's the it's the kickoff it's the week the we zero g all right speaking of dumb commentators Colin cardd on X Colin predicts that the Indiana Fever will outdraw the Pacers dude total attendance like for one game no no no total attendance attendance can't TV ratings what an idiot Georgia Tech Florida State by the way August 24th yeah I don't know if oh okay be back depend on how desperate I am I was I was at the Notre Dame game last year it was kind of it was kind of oh you yeah even though that was not a game that looked like a cool venue though and cool atere it's where they play rugby it's it's a cool venue it's in the middle of a neighborhood hey man what do you think of Wrigley Field in Northwestern can they do it there I mean isn't there wall that's a problem I believe Illinois played there a couple games when their stadium was getting but don't they just go in One Direction I don't know I think it's it's really I think they only go in One Direction I think you can only go away from the brick wall because there's not enough setback so you're always going in One Direction it's super tight I mean super tight I'm gonna go though I don't know if I would H that actually might be a decent one to go to I don't mind Evon evon's a fun place to go and go watch a game I mean that that's good and yeah I don't like Stadium's gone for two years they blew the stadium up yeah no Stadium why don't they play it at um Soldier Field yeah I mean you can sell 60,000 tickets because 55,000 of them will be Ohio State fans yeah that's a crappy crappy Stadium that's a dumb idea yeah Soldier Field yeah I'm with you uh Champions round on X our final story Dana White confirms UFC 303 it's Chandler and McGregor surpass a $20 million gate making it the highest gate in UFC history this might be the biggest pay-per-view numbers in UFC history Conor McGregor say what you want he doesn't have it why is he doing it go do Roadhouse 2 whatever you want to do dude he attracts eyes to the US right there is why he's doing it because he's getting another humongous pay day I bet he's getting probably 20 25 million for this fight maybe even more could be absolutely could be more absolutely could be more his last win was the Cerrone fight right Cowboy yeah I mean that was a long time no no no no he had one after the cowboy he won the Cowboy fight then he had one more where he broke his leg where he blocked a kick with his leg and it's that's I'm saying that's the win no he didn't win yeah he got his ass kicked in that one yeah well no they stopped the fight because he broke his leg Dustin po yeah yeah I think so but yeah I mean like he's getting I mean you know Dana is a great businessman he's gonna pay him he sees the dollar signs with Connor and I think that you know if you watch interviews of him before when they're like well why is it so hard to get Connor back here and he's like I mean he's Rich you mean Sam I think you looked it up that one time he sold the proper number 12 the stake in it for hundreds of millions of dollar hundreds of millions of dollars not to mention what he got for fighting Floyd Mayweather like the guy he's got a Lamborghini Yacht for Christ's sake yeah I mean the guy he doesn't need the money no the guy's banked you know probably four or500 million dollar over the last couple years so he doesn't need it but and I think that probably Dana came to him with a number you're right T I bet it's probably closer to 50 yeah and said look I'm gonna give you 50 million to to do this fight and he's probably like all right man let's go because I think fzy at the end of the day he he I think that you're right he loves I mean look what Tyson's doing they guys want to fight fighters want to fight they're they're they got to screw loose their nut jobs I mean they they have that innate whatever it is inside them that they want to still get after it and if you put the enough money in front of him to make it worth his while I'm not surprised he's getting back in 600 million dollar not bad by the way hey did you real quick to end it did you see what TKO Endeavors doing now with their their business plan is they're going to go to cities now since they own the WWE they're going to go to cities now and on a Friday they're going to have slap fight you know the Dana White thing the slap fight Championship then they're gonna have a UFC event then they'll have WWE in a stadium and it's gonna be in the same City Event weekend I think that's a brilliant idea you go to a big city and then you have all three of your events and sell out all three of them well think about this remember when they used to do the UFC event here in Columbus and it was always the Sunday after the Arnold yeah and it was just Meathead Central man I went everyone pite bottles everywhere yeah it was just nutso but that place was packed every time yeah hey FAS thanks for your time man we'll talk to you Monday see you guys next week the OV podcast.com just log in sign up Sam we'll talk to you tomorrow thanks everybody see you guys
