Edmonton Oilers News: Evander Kane's Future | Cody Ceci Trade Rumors | Ryan McLeod

Intro hey friends for the first time from the studio in the New Year this is doany TV glad to have you aboard this afternoon as we get set up to discuss some news rumors discussion points around our Edmonton Oilers following a very highly successful first two days of free agency even though yesterday really nothing got done but for the Oilers Jeff Jackson Chef Jackson went out there and cooked it up on July 1st made a very busy day out of what was already a busy day down at Keno beach in Co Lake of course the rain kind of dampened that a little bit but hey it's rain across the province we need it no fires the rest of the summer let's go all right what do we know the others they've got a lot going on they Subscribe signed a ton of players the whole roster seems to be back outside of two guys and we're going to run this thing back to game seven hopefully or sooner of the Stanley Cup Final that said before we get too far into it right I think this is something I got to hammer home to you Lake this weekend it was fantastic to see a whole bunch of familiar faces that uh well they're following along here on the channel and keeping up to date with everything Oilers but also keeping up to date with uh an old friend you could say here on doony TV that said let's get to Oilers News it I'm wasting too much time out of the gate the oers they need cap space this is a weird one because this is not a cap space problem because we're paying guys too much this is a cap space problem because we built an absolute Behemoth of a forward core with a pretty solid defensive core that took us to game seven of the stand the Cup Final oh by the way two goenda stand the Cup Final as well so the Oilers they're banking on experience the Oilers they're banking on their guys and of course they've added arson Josh Brown Jeff Skinner in there as well and a couple other pieces but your main thing to focus on is that the Oilers are currently exceeding the cap limit within the 10% allowance so in the summertime you're allowed to go over the cap by 10% right if the Cap's 88 which I think it is you go up 8 8.5 whatever whatever 8 8.8 so that's where the Oilers find themselves right now kind of in that allowance Zone figuring out okay so we need to make some moves and when it comes down to it we've heard lots of rumors throughout the past week about Jack Campbell being bought out that happened you've heard about Evander came being moved now that has shifted to Evander K being put on ltir and being activated for next year's playoffs okay all right now we're talking Vegas model Tampa Bay model also Cody cce's future remains highly highly IND de with this edmenton Oilers team it was something I discussed with Patrick the Oilers fanatic this afternoon on the way home and he countered the idea of just trading CC now because quite honestly kulak cc is not the worst third pair in the NHL and well it was a third pair in the stanle Cup finals that gave you within a gold shot of winning the cup so okay all right I see where we're going we can keep that going but what Patrick did mention is maybe moving CC at the NHL trade deadline for an upgrade would be the worthwhile move and of course CC kind of a fail safe to Philip Brook who has arrived on the scene as a top four pairing defenseman next to Darnell nurse so that brings us back to this right we got a clear cap someway I've named two players that I think everybody thinks will be moved or need something to be done with to allow the ERS to be cap Evander Kane compliant sometime early October well let's go discuss this then because the ERS do have some options here the Oilers need cap one thing we've talked about and is the new discussion Point here this week is Evander Kane on ltir as he heals up from the multitude of injuries he had this year sure makes sense I'm good with it whatever we're going to be very tight to the cap anyway might as well be in the ltir action so as we can call a couple more guys like Rafa laois and those guys up that said we also keep Kane on the next line with the CC Kane trade and of course if you're looking to get broberg and hallway on the roster and you're right tied up against it and nothing else seems to work you can wave Perry and Ryan post training camp depending on their performances to free this up now that lays it out real simple right there's a couple of veterans on the team that might just not mesh with where the Oilers are headed as an elite offensive Squad this year especially Ryan and Perry in a fourth line role how much offense I expect them to generate is pretty much nil to none that said there's going to be a lot of goals scored and there's going to be a lot of guys trying to score those goals so you're going to have to find goal allowances somewhere and if you take someone away from Ryan and Perry I don't think anyone's going to be all too upset when all is said and done with Jeff Skinner hopefully scoring 30 arson scoring 30 dry settled back in the 40s McDavid in the 50s and then Heyman hopefully somewhere around 40 and Newan Hopkins up there on the left wing either doing whatever he does somewhere in the 30s right that's a lot of goal scoring that doesn't count Evan buard that doesn't count Philip broberg that doesn't count Matias EOL that doesn't count anyone in the bottom six right there's a lot of guys there they very realistically could get a lot of production from as well so when you talk about ice time and minutes to score goals Perry and Ryan I feel would have the least amount of possibility to do that but there's also another guy that kind of doesn't have that opportunity within this Oilers lineup currently constructed right you got yanm Mark Henrik and Brown All Back so they're there you've got Dylan hallway on RFA status he'll be back uh well where does that leave one Ryan McLoud because yeah okay you wave Derrik Ryan now Ryan mccloud's your fourth line centerman am I reading that correct because Adam Henrik technically is the fourth line Center if you use Ryan Newen Hopkins at 3C sometimes so uh $2.1 Ryan McLeod million for Ryan McLoud on this Oilers roster well the Oilers need cap space can we discuss possibly moving Ryan McLoud the roster this is something again I discussed with Patrick uh from the olders fanatic and I'll tell you he'll have a much more fleshed out idea about how this all works but just in my estimation you look at this here McLoud averaged 14 minutes and 15 seconds on the ice put up 30 points of production 12 goals 18 assists 11 and a third shooting percentage not really a high volume shooter by any means either in 14 minutes and 15 seconds on ice and 81 games and a guy that just kind of refuses to get greasy with it at times or that's at least what it was shown to be in the playoffs here obviously scratched for it a couple of times in the playoffs so you really have to ask yourself with Ryan McLoud we talked so much about Evander Kane and CeCe here over the past week but it's just something I've looked at every lineup construction you can possibly put together for the Oilers here and just the value you're getting over Ryan McLoud in a diminished role on this team when compared to running Henrik Yan Mark and brown if you get that playoff production cool to have McLoud round for the speed but at the same rate just everything else around his game plus a decrease in likely ice time doesn't add up to being a very productive $2.1 million contract next year when the Oilers desperately need cap space so it's kind of going to be interesting I think at least from an Oilers fan perspective to be having a conversation that we raised a guy up from the Juniors to the miners all the way to the NHL and he's had some productive is Seasons with the Edmonton Oilers but it may be actually time just like it was with Yamamoto and of course Nell akov back in the day in my estimation to move on from a guy that we have brought up all the way through the system and now just doesn't fit the roster complexion of what this team is trying to achieve not saying that Ryan McLoud couldn't help not saying Ryan McLoud couldn't be a useful play not saying he's useless either just saying right now for the production quality you're going to get out of his ice time based on how this lineup's lining up on what we did in the end of the playoffs versus what we have now versus what we will do at the start of training camp it's just one thing to have a conversation about if we're talking about everything else we might as well talk about it friends I'm
