Edmonton Oilers News: Evander Kane | Trade Update | Offer Sheets + Cap Situation

hey friends this is doany TV glad to have you aboard this afternoon here on a Saturday as we get set up for the final well just about 3 days left before the Oilers have to have a decision on hallway and Philip broberg so as we keep that in mind here today friends there will be plenty to get to in today's edition kind of some thought exercises stuff like that I know I've asked plenty of questions of you but today is the one I aming going to try and put together a general consensus as we head into Sunday Monday Tuesday morning so before we get too fired up I want you right now I know I've been pushing this hard but need it to get done here over the course of these next few weeks as we head into the new NHL season if you're an Oilers fan if you're an NHL fan you want to follow along with the housekeeping as well I basically need to try and let you figure it out for yourselves in the comments section below today's video is premised around these three questions don't match both that being Hall and broberg they did this to themselves right I think that is the most common theme you could talk about when it comes to the Oilers and Philip roberg Dylan Holloway is this is not our problem this is their problem and quite honestly for what they're asking for what they've done and what they've kind of set the precedent for don't worry about it kick them to the curb let them go lose in St Louis right that's one simple Theory now matching one or the other is the most common Theory we've had over the past several days I think it's the most easiest to understand you match one you're only woring about part of the C total cap hit between the two of them and you're only having to figure out half the gymnastics now the other one which I I think the preference would be from a development standpoint is keep both hope is our best friend while hope right you're hoping broberg pays for that contract with Point production and defense and you're hoping that Dylan Holloway steps forward and year number two of that contract is dang worth good money I think that's how you'd say it so that is what we're looking at from that point of view my friends as we go in here though the cap situation just to give you an idea here uh there's three simple mechanisms here that most people are looking at you match broberg and Holloway the Oilers are over the cap by about 7.6 million you're allowed to be 10% over in the summertime so it's not necessarily worst case scenario if the Oilers are sitting here at 7.6 they'll have still some time to operate before the cap compliancy comes into effect that said hallay is only going to put you over by about 3 million somewhere in that number neighborhoods so that's where the Oilers definitely could benefit by only matching one or the other is you have a little less number to work with and Evander Kane's ltir usage right I think that is what would bail us out 100% of the way with only watching Dylan hallway Philip broberg it's kind of a tighter squeeze it's kind of a tighter situation and I think realistically in terms of what Holloway brings to the lineup up front given his speed given his kind of determination grit and I know the goal scoring in front of the net that's what you will be missing to some effect losing Evander Kane ltir so the case match hallway can easily be made as to the case for broberg where you don't usually get top four caliber defenseman on the trade market very easy so why would you give him up just because he has to be paid like a top 4D man right so plenty to be thought of again that is where I will defer to the first graphic what is best I want to hear your thoughts on this I want to know where we're sitting I know we've had lots of comments over the past few days here between uh Patrick Gillis TV and I here on YouTube but I'd love to just try and get this one going here on a Saturday when everybody might have a little bit more time that said we go to the cap situation and David Staples who is regularly involved over at the culta hockey the Edmonton Journal for Edmonton Oilers discussion leading the way actually leading the charge most times for them over there um quite simply I think he's had a busier August than maybe anybody over at the culta hockey expected to be busy uh this summer and so he he's had quite a few threads outed he's had quite a few thoughts outed over the past week and obviously over on Oilers now as well but when the Insiders are all making the same prediction that's a solid tell of what's to come he hopes and the Insiders are predicting that the Oilers won't match either or at least match one that's split at 75 25 how you want but I hope that the Oilers will match both get creative and dig deep to get out of this mess and this is where the Oilers I'll pitch this te in the next slide uh my own solution David stapes goes on to say is to get on the revolving LTR Carousel NHL players always banged up why not regularly rest guys who would otherwise play hurt again you can rest Kane the entire season if you can find a way to do it uh Vegas you're in your out does it with stone so why not long season for the Oilers last year long season he hopes this year give players needed time to rest and recover right the ltir as it currently functions in the CBA is a little bit manipulable so when you look at that from a Vegas standpoint a Tampa Bay standpoint any other team that's used that over the past few years the Oilers could definitely use that as the best line of attack again we're going to get kind of clowned on from the rest of the NHL for if you can't beat them join them but again at some point you just got to do what you got to do and I think that's where the Oilers are going to find themselves here trying to figure out the solutions now you could also talk about potential pto's and stuff if the Oilers don't sign Dylan hallway but at right now just to kind of recap what's going on over on the trade front even matching both offer sheets the Oilers don't need to make a trade right away right you're under that 10% cap overage so technically you can wait a week a month whatever it takes until you have to be cap compliant to make that decision and of course there are other ways with LTR trade and sending guys down and uh this is a theory that I think you'll see Patrick over on his channel on the Oilers fanatic today talk about and it's something that Lego rocks was talking about as well uh maybe the Oilers is finding a solution via trading for another ltir candidate player I know Tucker Pullman's been mentioned in discussions over on Lego rocks so that's where I'd say maybe that's a situation where the Oilers try to manipulate it a little bit and buy themselves some extra room that maybe they didn't have via shipping a player over there again though you're probably going to end up costing yourself more than you're actually affecting the gain so so that would be where I'd caution on that just from my perspective and the other side too I think for a lot of Oilers fans given our history you saw that bottom line there prospects could be ready um right you're you're losing essentially still a guy that's pretty raw in broberg a guy that's pretty raw still in hallay in terms of actual production at the NHL level you've got Matt seavoy percolating in the system you've got Rafa Lavo percolating in the system who by the way is 6' four and if he wants to push you around in the corners he can so like the Oilers have some guys that could easily take those positions that have been lost and re reup them a little bit right there's still a n Hof and Meer down in the miners I'm pretty sure there's still a benal down there there's still right there's and all be Max wner might get some attention this year there's plenty of guys on the defense and forward group that you know if you're counting on Philip robberg to be a top four but ultimately at the deadline you upgrade and put them as a third pair um right there's guys that could surprise you like a V day and day has over the past two years a guy like Philip Robert did in the playoffs right the Oilers have built up the coverboards to some extent the past two years and you know what the biggest thing is we're we a month old or less from training camp and when you talk about that that's the time of year when you see guys coming in with muscle added speed right other stuff added to their game and if somebody's willing to take a flyer on the coaching staff on one of those guys whether it be early in the season and maybe stop Gap and then you trade for someone or just because of the situation with the ltir and the contracts dictates it hey you know what we are not necessarily in the worst case scenario if we go back to slide number one here and don't match both right if we say hey broberg and holway put themselves in this mess we just used the time to calculate all the possible moves we could make and matching both was not in our interest matching either was not in our interest moving forward and allowing the guys that want to be here to be here and have a chance to succeed that's what's in our best interest then they did this to themselves we wash our hands take the picks and upgrade at the deadline or sometime after January 1st so that's the thing right is I don't assume the Oilers are going to start 212 and one or whatever the heck the record was on November 24th last year so if the Oilers want to go and try and win several more games than they did last year by about December 1st you can probably buy the month of December at a 6550 win rate and then yeah you know what you go into January very well targeting a top four d man and the offense up front you've got enough weapons in the AHL that can fill in in case of injury you've got enough guys up front capable of producing losing points that I don't think you're going to necessarily miss that potential production from Dylan Holloway especially if Evander cane comes back sooner than later this season so friends thanks for being aboard here today like I said I promised you a longer Edition and we got it again I'll flash
