this season um this is a I would advise guys to pick the good stuff yeah you know I mean I'm not saying you gotta be gluttonous but when you choose whatever it is that you're going to partake in try to make the other things in your life Elite yeah yeah just have things to look forward to other than the games well that's the nice thing about the game last night at do Campbell Stadium Was Not only was the product so good but like the Ambiance the music whole you know just everything about it was was I want to save that for maybe later in the hour we certainly aren't going to start with the game day experience but that's a nightmare and it needs to be fixed and we will address that we got the pting stats taken off the board IRA and last night was the one time you wanted the punting stats you dominated that uh that competition but um we will get we are going to do our best to get the game day experience fixed because that is an absolute uh abject horror show yeah it is uh really quickly I was telling Corey right before you came in Iron before we came in here to start the show and our pre Jeff and I had a pre-production meeting yeah you know can send me the notes here's the thing you're so Rock Solid I'm like we don't need to include him I got to get Cory on the same page I gotta get him locked in so that we know but no I was thinking about it I I was it was a little Trek down memory lane The Good the Bad the Ugly everything in between and I was saying that from the game no no I cared that much yeah what was the good good Master model yeah yeah so yeah but no I I I I thought started thinking about like difficult conversations and the things that you're watching play out in a way that's disappointing whatever it might be I was thinking man I've been covering this team uh 26 27 years and I can remember some of the old shows going in when I knew that I was going to be really critical of Coach Bowen and I remember thinking this is gonna this is gonna suck I'm gonna have to rip you know because I felt like things were falling apart I needed to tell people what I thought I mean that's what I'm paid to do right we all are but that that's a tough thing right so you go in and you rip a legend and that's not going to go over well and then there's going to be Pockets that are really angry at you and whatever so that happens and then Jimbo you know head coach and waiting gets it built back up they win a National Championship unfortunately things off the field begin to fall apart for him it affects his on the field product and there's another dip and those were tough conversations you know and he's leaving and there's controversy and all that then the the the the the unfortunate hire of Willie doesn't work out anyhow Mike builds this thing back up wins 10 games two years ago gets incredible Buy in you know goes 13-0 a year ago uh again the culture is never in question there because you have that buyin it's how you're able to win in the transfer portal without upsetting the locker room and all these things right and you could never have predicted in a million years that we'd be two games into a season and you can legitimately begin to ask questions about the culture in that locker room right now as well well as that coaching staff having to answer really tough questions about why they're not prepared to play football and why they look indiff about playing football and you know it's like that the other stuff that was good and bad in the past there was context to it you knew like okay well this could happen you could see some of these things coming this came out of nowhere out of nowhere and and you know I get it I get people get mad at us and other people who cover this program but I I wrote this down I I wanted to make sure that I had this in our prep great prep I didn't know he didn't go on like this it was like a 20 second so this is this is Mike noral to Phil steel uh Phil steel wrote that last year FSU had 206 career starts back on the offensive line and went a perfect 13-0 winning the ACC this year they have 187 career starts and Coach norell told me earlier this week that this is his best off offensive line that he's ever had and the deepest that he's ever had That's Mike norell uh Pete themill multiple NFL Scouts have told me they expect FSU to have the country's best starting defensive line this year now that was a tweet from Pete pill quoting multiple NFL Scouts I don't think he made it up I he's not in the business just if you're at practice and you see the scouts show up there's a lot to the defensive line that's where they go all right so that's that's a tweet uh here you go Florida State to me has one of the best five probably personnel-wise teams in the country with the way they've been able to reload through the portal as well as having some good recruiting and good young players coming up in the program that they've developed I think they're one of the best teams in the country quote unquote Nick sa okay so that's quote unquote Nick sa I can keep going there are other credible people I'm not trying to deflect what I'm saying is these are people who are being told things either by NFL scouts or are in the case of Nick sain a legendary coach or Mike norvo himself telling you that he thinks is the best offensive line he's ever had and the deepest and most talented okay so how did we arrive at this place if it's not the intangible there has to be something wrong in that locker room I don't know if I buy that well then what is because I just think they're not they're some guys are not very good football players and I think the skew I think what skewed everything was the offensive line of valuation I think that Mike noral believed that about his offensive line right I think he might have been fooled by what it looked like with what it looked like what certain guys looked like with a mobile quarterback and then you go into this year and you don't have a mobile quarterback if DJ has been Mobile in the past that's one thing he has not been mobile he's mobile like a like a glacier like I me he moves a little bit so so you I think Darius Washington and morrice Smith and those Robert Scott at times dur his career Jeremiah buers they had a different quarterback back there a different style of quarterback and so I think he evaluated some of those guys based on what they could do with that kind of quarterback which they don't have right now and I think so he thought those guys were better than they are then you bring in Richie Leonard and and TJ Ferguson and I think Keandre Jones in his second year in the system I think he thought those guys were better than they are and then that defensive line looks so amazing so you see those battles in practice and I think he got fooled I think just like the scout got fooled just like we got fooled I don't think it's a this is a team that because here's the thing I've talked to people inside the program it's not like there's a buch of turds on this team and that's the frustrating thing it's it was easier to dislike the teams when Willie was here in the first couple years under Norvell because things had fallen apart like there was no accountability kids talked back kids did whatever they wanted to do this is not that team it's a team that's not very good and I don't think it's very tough but I don't think it's a cultur what you think of a normal culture issue like they're not playing hard they don't care maybe they're just not I just don't think they're very good or very tough that's my op and that's disappointing because you're in year five and uh a lot of these guys are your guys you brought well you brought them all in so they're all technically your guys why does the offensive line look like it's 2018 again why why why they've been here forever they've got 190 starts I mean and and is it because I think you're right I think it goes back to when you have a Jordan Travis back there it changes the complex of everything I also think in 2023 teams realized he wasn't going to run and that stopped your running game in 2022 he ran not as much as he did in 21 but he ran and they knew he would run and that opened up the running game the last two years you haven't had a quarterback that's run and you can't R you you can't establish a run unless you have a mobile quarterback is that but at least last year you had a you had Keon Coleman Johnny Wilson j Bell in a quarterback who could throw the football and was had some confidence about him now what's happening right now is I don't even wanted a evaluate the offensive line totally because they're in a ridiculous situation like teams know they cannot throw the football they they don't have receivers who can get open they don't have a quarterback who can throw the ball so Dar William was open that one time he was you're right he was open but you're gonna see eight or nine in the Box well that's not I to me you really can't evaluate the Run blocking in that situation yeah they've lost on some neutral fronts though um yeah they've had a lot of trouble no matter if it's stacked or not it's been interesting I agree with you I I I just yes it's not it's not a fair fight when you can't throw uh but why can't you throw but Ben that's a misevaluation once again Mike whiffed I mean let's just say it he whiffed he was wrong about DJ he's wrong about these receivers he's wrong about this offensive line he whiffed I don't even know like and I and I and I go back to it it's hard it's hard to um even say the receivers suck how would you know they're not they're not getting wide open well I'll tell you when Georgia Tech and BC are playing man yeah but you're disecting your receivers sure but maybe they're getting old we're not seeing the all 22 we don't know when he should be throwing the ball and who he should be throwing to but we know that he's whipping the ball at people's feet yeah when you're in the Box you can see if somebody's open you've seen whether they're open they weren't exactly getting open they're not running wide open but there's also you know I watch BC they don't have great receivers they only th completed 10 passes they scheme dudes open well they scheme their running backs open because you're line cover you're not g well they didn't even this time they didn't even care to cover them they weren't even out there but that the my biggest concern is really honestly at the offensive line number one because it's been five years this whole staff has been here five years um and I did and this isn't fair I'm going to go ahead and say that right away this isn't fair I'm getting that out of the way all right um Mike norell has coached 12 games when Jordan Travis was not his quarterback he's two and 10 and those two wins were at Florida where the offense wasn't great in the Louisville game third string quarterback knew he couldn't do anything with it just didn't even try that's concerning what's your theory there my theory there my theory there is if he doesn't have a mobile quarterback this offense has not worked at all got you but do you did you have you ever looked at any of the numbers before he was a Florida State yeah I know his off topped 10 the country year it's like he's supposed to be an offensive guy well man these are all his guys that he handpicked and this offense looks butt ass sorry and we can but I don't think that's necessarily a Jordan Travis or not it's a quarterback or not like if you don't have a quarterback your offense is gonna suck that's that's the to me the the the misevaluation was I think look it's two games but I think we can feel fairly say right now that Mike norell fell into the same trap I think a lot of coaches fall into where they believe they can make somebody better than they were under somebody else but is he made worse like he wasn't DJ won games he wasn't horrible at Oregon State he won games I think DJ's lo I I my personal Theory confidence currently yeah I mean and I don't know DJ at all but is a person but I do know that you can't play a quarterback if you don't have confidence and I think he when he went to Corvalis he probably didn't have a ton of pressure on Woods yeah and who who knows if anybody you're doing well or not now you come back to Florida State and things have not gone well and it just seems like he's lost his confidence and I you can't play quarterback that way but it but in you're you're in a situation as Mike norell last night like I had asked him about abandoning the run but it's also like yeah what do you want me to do if they're gonna stack the box we have to show we can throw the football the problem is receivers aren't great tight ends dro the ball and DJ's not get it together Morlock not what he what he was not what he was even two years ago yeah since the uh this is crazy since Florida State uh beat North Alabama I was trying to think of the team uh they've scored what was the stat I had it pulled up here oh so they've scored seven touchdowns total in seven game in five games they've scored seven touchdowns their offense hasn't been good it was it was not good at the end of the year with Jordan and it was terrible without him obviously their offense has been going like this downhill for some time I mean even the game where Jordan got hurt he got hurt trying to run move theall and that's that's what's disappointing you can't you can't establish the there are some teams out there um you know you know they're going to run the ball and you can't you know they're going to run the ball and they are going to run the ball in Florida State it's almost like you have to trick they have to trick people to get any yards on the ground and that's very very disappointing well in year five and in two games after an undefeated season it's shocking is what it is and everybody is grasping for answers and then you get it we all are I think most of us are somewhat bumf Falls we all have a theory as to maybe why this is happening there are some self-evident truths that have occurred where you say well that kid's not as good as I was hoping he'd be I mean that's fine but this is really really weird there's a lot to try to put your finger on here they're they're lost they're lost in the I mean that defense is embarrassing they don't have a lot going for them this is um even strange on the heels of 13 and0 it's just strange and there was a stretch when they played well in that game on Monday night until you got within eight points and then you let him go right down the field and essentially you also panicked and went for it on Fourth and from your own that was crazy was CRA but that was early in the game you got down 21 to6 you gave him a touchdown you essentially gave him gave him a touchdown um because you know Master Rano is gonna punt him out at the half yard line right there um but so uh you gave them a touchdown but even then portier makes some plays you get back in the game immediately get a dumb personal foul on a Touchback and then they go 60 yards and the game's over that was like I thought for a moment I'm like okay the defense is kind of rallied up they've really only given up two t the first two drives were awful but after that they played well in the offense is the reason they scored their third touchdown and then you gave up essentially the game clenching drop yeah and I think at that point I my I feel like you look at the time possession I think the defense was pretty gassed and at that point they said okay now we're gonna unleash castalanos as a runner because they hadn't really done that they didn't that's the scary part IA they didn't have to they didn't have to do it either that was the thing about that game is it really didn't feel like Georgia Tech I thought played as well as they could play I thought Georgia Tech played a great game called a great game go back and watch some of Hayes King's throws or he'll never make those again I mean it was just everything went George Tex way this was a pretty just ho home day at the office this was B BC against Florida State to me looked like what Florida state would look like against a you know what they should look against BC just a workmanlike effort really they didn't have to do anything they didn't Florida State meanwhile is reaching in their bag of tricks yes well guys open and then they can't hit them good Lord but that's another thing is it's not like be it's not like Florida State didn't know BC was going to run and yet they still ran for 260 when teams know Florida State's going to run are try to run they can't do Flor State's still playing a base de I they're they're not doing that they're not selling out to stop the r Adam's going to have to make some adjustments but I I would say that one of the things if you go back in both the Georgia Tech game and and I did it this morning unfortunately sucks to have to do that again when you go back and watch several of those um big runs early they're smart every team is now gonna double Daryl and and and farmer because they don't think either of the ends are going to make a play and they know the linebackers aren't going to fill the linebackers are Dreadful so you've got linebackers that don't fill and you got safeties that are non-existent and you've got two guys to worry about that are legit 330 pound guys so they're going to double them and they're gonna say your ends aren't going to make plays I'm not sure Marvin can play your linebackers haven't made plays we're not worried about them if they start making plays we'll adjust but they don't have to right now they don't have to come out of anything that they don't want to Florida State can't make them come out of it by the way for state has no pass rush whatsoever I I talk to ason wake up we'll see more about what the pass rush really is when you have a stationary qu when you're not facing the these are the two most mob those guys didn't even run around I know it's still the threat of it you these are the two most mobile guys you're gonna face but there were times last night not a lot where castal is drop back they were throwing the football on Third and long a lot of their thirds down were third and manageable but third and long you didn't get anybody close to them almost that's why I'm saying it almost looked like to me they were just trying to bracket them they weren't even trying to go for him but I'm saying we'll know more about Marvin I I honestly think we'll know he had zero tackles he's done nothing in two games we'll know more about him when they start playing guys that aren't haes King and casianos and more normal quarterbacks um but that said he has not looked good uh clearly the defensive line those defensive ends and games like this they kind of get exposed because they're not they're not productive players against mobile quarterback running teams and where you know where I would say the culture part that you do need to watch is fact start to S yeah now now because again get to the playoff like that's done well I mean that's not I know that's not even a thought right now but there two conference losses but you're now you're seeing guys make mistakes that really bad football teams make you know again like the the the shove at the end of the game with you know TJ Ferguson I mean it wasn't it was it was he got baited into it yeah it was stupid slow it took forever for him to do the dumb thing and and it wasn't and it shouldn't have been called because it was clearly a flop but think about where they were a year ago like the Florida we bragged on I think it was uh it was Keandre I think that the kid from Florida spit in his face yeah and he didn't retaliate yeah now because a guy is just holding on Lawrence to's arm and it pisses you off you go over and shove him I mean it's like man that now they're and then false starts personal fouls on kickoffs I mean now they're it's because the frustration I think is inside the this is where you get worri because let's say it's as you think that they don't have culture issues or that culture issues didn't lead to these two losses fair enough when I say that I don't I'm saying when you say culture issues I think it implies bad kids that sorry I don't mean to imply that I want to clarify for that I don't think they're bad kids but losing in the era of nil is a new case study this is gonna be very interesting to watch this is for anybody yeah not Florida happens to be Florida State right now but people pocket watch you know we know kids do that right in this era if all of the sudden thing start to unravel you do worry that your culture could be adversely affected Mike's now having to deal with potential of that problem and there are so many other things that he has to deal with in addition to you just wonder is this a case where you begin to watch a guy having to put out little fires and things begin to unravel you can lose games you cannot lose your culture he did so much work to get this culture to a place where it was rightfully celebrated you can lose it really quick we've all seen that happen before now I worry I mean you just lost two conference games to two teams that you are infinitely more talented than you're gonna play a lot better teams than those two I mean Miami is gonna try to score a 100 on you which is what I would do if I were them after being humiliated and then have their players go over to your recruiting tell you it'll be at their Stadium yeah but you know what I mean like Mii might send their players to like the stadium when when they're not playing FSU so you you couldn't block BC and Georgia Tech you ain't blocking Clemson yeah now their quarterback may not score either but you're not and Clemson you've got a lot of bigger problems to deal with that you certainly hope that this doesn't infiltrate and become a really ugly situation because this is stunning this is really stunning to see this well and I think that's the question to me the bigger question good time for an off week I think honestly I you can reset and you can figure out what you want the rest of this season to be well and I think then the question becomes like what balancing what what what can you do with this season to help you for next season because as you said the goals are gone I like any of the AC Championship all that stuff I mean it's off the table the state championship baby I still on the table you certainly got a shot to beat Florida yeah if you can schedule West Florida maybe um but I mean it is uh so all of that's off the table so now to me the only questions are what and it's a complicated question it's very complicated no easy answer you bring in a guy like dju and hey let's do this let's I know where you're going I know where you're going after the break after the break we'll go to break but I like conversation because we're all thinking it yeah when do you do it because what you play for now is the talented young players when do you pull the trigger at that position here we're here yep here we are fitting coaches coaches poll just came out those they're not ranked we're not ranked fla State's not ranked yeah that's too bad that's weird I don't know what they I mean they you know they almost beat Georgia Tech yeah it's GNA be a long year it's GNA be tough I wonder you know we were talking before the break we might as well get into this um because I think everybody's going to begin to wonder we all all were excited about uh Elijah Moore we were all excited about lne McCoy we were all excited about um Thomas amaram Williams so there's there's a lot of guys that some of the younger guys that came in in that recruiting class that you're excited about you wonder how soon we see them you know I I don't know this is a bye week so in theory a couple things you could you could get guys better prepared to play a game in two weeks or you could address with your current starters uh all the folks that you you brought in through the the portal and that you're paying uh and and get some things that if you think you can fix it give them one more chance uh I guess in theory they're not totally out of it yet doesn't seem likely that they're G to you know rally the troops there and turn this season around but if you were ever GNA do it it would be off of a bye so well one of the challenges is you know you you know you talk about quarterback changes um sometimes you do it for a spark sometimes you do it you know to see if the guys will rally around somebody else I mean think back to when Chris Ricks was here and the players wanted Adrian mcferson and then they went to Adrian mcferson and then he didn't play really well either then the whole off field thing and um but sometimes you're just searching for a spark and you know and I I think this one's this situation is so challenging because you add into it so many different layers one is DJ young was a portal quarterback it was a you know a fifth year senior a guy you're bringing in for one year so like when people would ask if there's a quarterback competition like no there's no quarterback competition you don't bring him in and the problem is if if you sit him in week three yeah does it send a negative message to other portal people if that if you're ever in that situation again and so that's a challenge then you have the challenge of you've got some young quarterbacks that you like as you know and what do you do with them in terms of you know maybe Brock Len makes sense maybe now but if he plays and plays decently and he becomes the guy now what are you what are you telling Luke croman Hawk who's a freshman and is he thinking okay well next year because it's not so much what he's thinking what other schools are going to be telling his people is hey man they rode with Brock Glenn you know you're are you gonna sit behind him for the next two or three years that's something to think about and then if Luke has the potential where you want to start seeing him in games well you could well you're was Brock well and you also could create bad habits when you play a quarterback too young I always felt like just one guy top of my mind is Drew Weatherford I feel like him having such a bad offensive line early in his career James Blackman also it can it can really mess up a qu back if they start seeing ghosts because they they did not have a good situation so I just think there's a lot of things it's a complex issue but the problem is if you just keep riding with DJ and he keeps missing open receivers can't do it it affects everything else in your team because nobody else wants to be out there anymore and I think that's part of what they're dealing with and it runs an that was like two minutes of you talking about the quarterback situation it was all smart and it was all knowledgeable Irish Chael who's your starting quarterback against Memphis Trevor Jackson okay I said do span how a feeling man just snap it to an athlete I I would I would probably I would I would probably look towards the younger guys pretty soon um and just to even if it's not even the full game yeah giving them some some taste because you do have to worry about the future and you gotta you got to see what you have because man you know situation next year could it be worse you've scored one touchdown in your last 17 drives or whatever it's been could it could it be worse and prob we're talking about and I wasn't totally being joking about Trevor Jackson because the one thing that dude would do is he would change the numbers and he can make plays you can run the ball you'd be able to run the ball Brock lnn is very mobile and run the ball packages but he's not Trevor mobile but he's mobile enough but conversely Trevor's not him throwing the ball so there's all of that but I I back to your point before about not having a mobile quarterback and Mike's offense is really struggling without one at least these days um you would solve that problem with Brock I mean he he he ran with the twos the whole time and we know he can run and he likes to run he's he's aggressive you could incorporate that into your game plan um he's not going to be hesitant about tucking it and going he can't you wouldn't play him if he was okay you're there might be times where you have to tell him to stop doing that throw the ball I mean he will run so if we're worried about DJ's lack of mobility and what this is doing to the offense in terms of how stagnant it is I mean you might have to seriously consider doing that if it's not now it will certainly be after the next loss once you have three losses what the hell are we doing here I mean you got to play for next year well and I do again I think it's going to affect everything else because I I think you you look at that game yesterday when Mike Norville went for it on Fourth and five I felt like the defense was was starting to kind of feel hand they getting their legs underneath they weren't playing terribly at that point had a few good possessions and then you have that interception return to the seven yard line I think the defense was like man you know this is this it's hard to play defense when your offense is putting yourselfself in in putting in you into bad situations you'd like to believe that all defenses are going to rise up in that situation but they had also been on the field 20 minutes in the first half so I just think that at some point you need a spark on offense to help the defense as well um and to help the offensive line you know again it's just it is um you just can't keep you can't go through games with DJ looking like that because I I do think it affects guys dropping passes I think it just affects everything when they don't believe in the quarterback it affects everything yeah I agree I agree and you know you blame it all on him but it is what he's not playing well per he is not and you you you hope because you paid this coaching staff a lot of money and they've been successful here and at other places if you do make a change to a younger kid tailor the game plan around them like you're do that you're allowed to do that tailor the game plan around them where you do get a mobile quarterback out on the edge you do use his legs more um don't just play the same offense you played with Jordan Travis or this game with DJ like figure it out man you've got you've got nine 10 days now this is bitterly disappointing on uh on because I I think the world of Mike as a coach I think he's a very good coach he's not having a good run uh late last year was not great and this has been terrible to start the year and and I rarely go after play calling or anything like that with coaches because I think that's a Fool's errand but buddy this has been ugly you know you can't come off the field at halftime and say we got to really concentrate on getting the Run game going and you've given your backs two carries yeah come on man you're not being honest with yourself average four yards to carry you're not being honest with yourself at that point yeah well I mean I think in his mind I think his mind going into the game was they're gonna stack the Box we're gonna hit some quick plays we're gonna hit some passes those throws to things up loosen things up and and in Boston College in they did like you said they didn't always crowd the Box they did back off sometime and sometimes I thought they had numbers to run and still didn't run like it was just a that's what I was frustrated with I'm saying Mike if you're G if you're if the onus is on running the ball when you get a neutral box when you have five or six people in the bo run the ball and is how much of that is DJ Making the he's gotta go he I mean it is an RPO so he has the option but my man when you get a neutral box if the onus is on the Run game that should be the first thing you're thinking of and it wasn't other than the scoreboard which obviously tells us all we need to really know about the football team they had the ball Twice first and goal at the five they they called six straight passes they went 0 for five with a sack in their s now two of them were schemed where the guy was wide open in the end zone and the quarterback could but your first time you got down to the five after the throw to Lucas who still just doesn't get on the field um you you takes a sack on the he takes an eight- yard loss of first and goal from the five that's impossible that's an impossible thing to do you can't do that but then um and then you get the ball down there again and you throw three times and two of them were open and it didn't work out but meanwhile you played play two games and your defense has given up drives inside the red zone seven times and the team has scored seven touchdowns in seven drives in the Red Zone that's without a lot of trickeration that's just kind of just up right up just right up the gut and that's that's pretty pathetic that you're 0 for seven and even forcing a field goal attempt Georgia Tech's only field goal attempt Lord knows they could have scored a touchdown on that last drive too if they wanted to and they they tried a 50 yard in the first half and and missed it and Boston College took a knee at had mercy on you yeah other than special teams other than mastero and Ryan got together and Lord knows they work those special teams buddy other than that like if you're Mike norell and you wake up this morning like where do you even start like where do you even start man is start with in-game music it's a good that's something you can't control it's a good point you're making because IA you see this a lot in a lot of different ways but people trying to lose weight you're 350 pounds and you want to get to be 180 pounds man it's awful in these first two games C was bad last a highlight re for that opposing defensive end yeah man I that it's scary it's scary I think for State fans are scared they're angry rightfully but they're scared because this is befuddling because it's year five well and also think about man and you know it's like the conversations you don't want to have yeah you know it's like you know if if you're at home and like you you're you're struggling financially and then your wife's R oh what about the roof the roof may be going here soon I mean I can't talk about the roof I'm trying to put food on the table I'm trying to feed the family you want to fix the roof so so that's that's kind of where he is right now and that's where this Administration is right now because think about the bigger picture oh buddy I don't I don't I did this already and it's a dark place you end up in I mean here we are they they made the decision two years ago to go all in in football because they want to get out of this conference they want to be attractive to whatever the future holds whether that's getting into another conference now or that's at least being at the table when college football becomes a pro sports league and so they went all in on football man they've spent so much money the last two years not just in the nil which people talk about but also just the the program facilities building this new facility renovating the stadium paying the staff Mike norell now makes $10 million a year adames off of a raise to look like this and so you put all of this money into it and now you're locked in man like we all made fun of the buyouts for Jimbo Fisher it's XM well if things don't get turned around at some point Mike norell Imagine That B he's making the beauty that he has though is he has done it like he he turned it around I don't have any doubt that Mike norval can coach I don't have any doub I'm just saying like you're all in and it looks like this it's a it's it's but you have to believe in the man right you have to believe in the man that he's he he's way more upset than you are he is not driven by money you hope and that the $10 million does not make him uh I don't think he's gonna be lazy or LAX so if you believe in the man and you believe in his vision for your program you're just gonna have to wear 2024 oh well you have no choice about that you're going and if it doesn't get fixed you're going to wear 2025 you're going to wear 2026 and you I think the the belief now is you're not going to be wearing 25 and 26 it will get better belief in the but the challenge Mike that is a concern like what is this and the challenge for Mike norell is he he has to acknowledge being wrong in all way he was wrong and then figure out how to fix it yeah and that's really hard for anybody to do is to look in the mirror and say I'm the problem especially when you haven't been the problem you've been the answer yeah to the problem now whether relying too much on certain assistant coaches or scouting department or but clearly you know what they did in the portal the guys that they took this time there a lot of those are not he's gotten it right time and again in the portal he whiffed in the portal this time for on some of them sure um but but most most all of them Cory the the I'm not I'm not there yet on the receivers I think you're close but the quarterback the quarterbacks that that the quarterback's everything almost you know when in this sport it shouldn't be but it is man I agree with you I agree with you and there's no doubt that's a factual statement that's the biggest that's the biggest whiff clearly is they thought they were going to get a guy that was going to be good not great not special but good he's been no no he's been you do try to run those guys get killed could be available but I do say you you watch these Kenny Shaw turned into a really good receiver when he got a guy that could throw it to him these he was not thing a very common discussion last night in text messages on Twitter and everywhere else was this there's a perception out there that Florida State Andor the battle end take the took the cheaper route no when going for DJ W young overs cam Ward there's a lot of circumstances that were play in that whole situation yeah it wasn't necessarily a choice by Florida State it certainly wasn't a let's go for the cheaper budget option no there was DJ DJ wanted to come to Florida State cam was debating about going to the NFL he wanted to find out his evow from the NFL the process was going to take longer didn't want to keep W if you kept waiting for him and you may not get him because then nil now becomes it could become a bidding war I mean cam Ward held all the chips at that situation and when you saw him play you know why yeah he's a very talented dude uh especially against that Florida defense but when you look at uh that the situation Florida state would have had to either tell DJ hey man we're gonna have to wait another few weeks yeah and you just sit and wait which he might have or you you know or you move on and they moved on because even if they hadn't at the end of the day Miami there's no amount of money Florida State could have play paid to stop Miami from upping the bid correct Miami all in on this year because they need Mario to succeed this year Mario's at the crossroads the way that Mike was at the crossroads in the year that I thought that they had have a good season yeah and I was talking about if he doesn't he may be a great coach but he's done Mario's in that position right now if they don't have a great year he's screwed and they're scre because they've invested in him but I would say the counter to that though is Florida State could have been competitive with Miami on a bid there's no amount that they would have paid that's also saying like cam Ward would choose strictly for an extra 500 or a million dollars as opposed to I want to go where I can go win a National Championship and if you had a roster in place if you had a Keon and a Johnny and a Jem to throw to that could take the place of an extra million dollars because you might be playing in the national championship game have those things yeah exactly well that's that's kind of goes back to where this roster was after last year and you didn't have as enticing skill players anybody proven other than Toof to attract someone like a cam Ward where you can't maybe get run that bit up uh n Kev you will probably disagree but watching this team I don't see a lot of nolles I see a lot transfers here for nil and draft stock which is also why I think nil and portal is killing college football but I digress well the only thing I'll tell you no Kev plenty of portal players out there whooping ass at Ohio State Old Miss Georgia miam Miami Miami not that and a portal player that from last year's team jarian Jones who's in the NFL now was on the sidelines last night like they you've seen the comments and those guys they they're the players on that team but the other side of it is like that was a special year that was a special team I'm pretty much vowing to never mention 13-0 again in anything I write because it's just it's completely irrelevant just as irrelevant as it was the Georgia Tech had the worst run defense last year that's how irrelevant is what Florida state did in the current context like the guys on this team how many of them contributed you know a few but not a lot to what that team was so it's almost like a completely different team every year is unto itself and that's a fair thing coaches say it all the time but it seems especially true right now I would also I would also just say like again there is a there is a downside to if you evaluate poorly and you get it wrong in the portal one time he's gotten it right a gazillion times the upside you wi 13 and0 yeah downside they're 0 and2 and they don't have a lot of talent and not a lot of Hope like oh well these guys will it's a young team it's like no you brought in a bunch of 22 year olds um and yeah that it's not a lot of hope that next year these most of them won't even be around some of them were one-year rentals and they uh you know they might be lemons yeah they might be and and then Mike has to you know obviously account for that but it it's more disturbing to me I don't care if you you and me all Miss on our evaluation of a quarterback Mike norell is a former college wide receiver head coach who calls plays and has been a very good offensive coach he missed it he missed it on these receivers and he missed it on that quarterback I'm not be very troubling to him it's like he didn't watch KRON play last night KP make him play I don't want to I don't want to that's a fallback excuse a lot of times where we talk about leadership and guys are trying to do what they like you can see it when you watch the sideline guys are trying to do what they think they're supposed to do like you'll see defensive lineman going over to the offensive lineman and kind of encouraging them offensive lineman doing the same thing to the defensive line when when DJ had a a bad throw you would see a receiver which one lots of opportunities for the receivers to lead in that moment but in times where they came off the field right okay You' see receivers running backs go over them like you know Pat him on the head like trying to be good teammates and that's why this is a team to me with a bunch of like decent kids that want to be good but they're just not good this team is not you know so it's not like it's I haven't seen there's there's a couple little things last night there was a situation last night somebody mentioned in the chat earlier um where I think a player and one of the sports staff when they were going into the tunnel kind of started getting onto each other I think it was about the kid not getting into the locker room fast enough that stuff's gonna happen um but over it'll happen a lot yeah and but overall I think it's it's it's just a team that's lost man and so the question was about like are these guys not playing for dju yeah man if you're not playing well they're not going to play you know they wouldn't have play for if he played poorly they're they you know they'll they'll rally around good quarterbacks make everybody else better because those guys are inspired by their play well if you're playing poorly ain't nobody inspired yeah if especially if you've never played well for them like Jordan had stretches last year where I tons of people it's not like they've sold those seats they've done a really good job of selling those seats people want a better experience the problem is then all of that happens then from an optic standpoint then you go out and play this way and then again the in-game experience was so ridiculously bad it's it's again like that's to me if you're playing well and the music and all that stuff's going on like you could kind of grin a bear but when the when the meal is awful yeah and then the service is awful the atmosphere is awful yeah it just it just adds to it so meal is awful service is awful God it's loud in here this is what are we doing God this baloney sandwich sucks man this is awful who goes to a restaurant gets a baloney sandwich that's what we watched on Monday night was a different this was completely out of left field nobody could have predicted this and the head coach certainly didn't no but this doesn't make any sense and it's why you're left grasping or something with more meaning you're saying wait a minute they just went 13-0 he has revitalized this program the man almost took the Alabama job which means Nick likes him a lot that he didn't suddenly get stupid and not know what he's looking at although you have to conclude by looking at this roster he didn't know what he was looking at it's puzzling yeah well that's where I go back to I think you look at the what's your Baseline and I think that his Baseline for this team was I think he thought this running game was gonna be really good I off line yes and so when you use that as a baseline your thought process is okay I'm bringing in the senior quarterback I don't think he here's the thing Mike norell never expected DJ was gonna have to throw the about 40 times a game if he he wouldn't have brought in for that no you just 30 other quarterbacks You' have brought in before DJ if this was going to be the offense you had to play but the problem is he's been so unsuccessful throwing in the football then now teams are gonna not let you run the football and it's just and then now that's compounding so it's just a disaster man it's a and you know we talked about the receivers and we mentioned whiffing and whatever you know having not having hem Williams not having Dustin Hill is is contributed to the problem um but they also have a bunch of guys that they've spent a lot of time and money on and have not been productive this is why I would begin to play some of the Freshman that we really like and they are upgrade athletically than the guys that you have out there currently I I if they can't do worse how about the fact that Jaylen Brown it was third and it's actually a nice conversion it was a third and 11 he got 12 yards he made a guy Miss and it was like wow a Florida State receiver made a guy Miss to get a couple extra yards and then two plays later portier did what he did and it was so um so shocking completely yeah see a wide it was foreign and it and it's not like the other than Cam Davis pushing piles it's not like the running backs have done anything special either yeah I well they're screwed what your like what your inclination is and again if there wasn't there's just a lot of variables at this level but but your inclination is to find the dudes I was George Henshaw henshaw's house which will be up on our website later tomorrow longtime college vibrant discussion between a quarterback and the play call and you don't even see that last year well last year just scream at coming off the field like yelling at yelling at the coach or being really mad that's not happening but he's a he's a onee rent um clearly it's different playing in that speaks to somebody trying to instill in somebody totally are exact do that but I think it speaks to they're so concerned that it's like because I there was a there was a time in a huddle in the SEC in the probably in the fourth quarter where it looked like Tony toar was trying to joke with him a little bit to try to like he wouldn't and but it's like that's where you're at like relax dude settle down yeah no you can't do that and if that's the case and we don't know what was said but if you're literally just trying to get a guy to relax and play football and you deduce that he is completely bereft of confidence well then you make the quarterback put him out there what I wonder is can you come up with a plan where you say okay we're gonna we have to start looking at some of these young other guys to see what we have next year we're not GNA sit you forever we're not putting you on the bench and just throwing you away is there a way to create a plan where you you play like a couple of series or something like that just to give him a chance to watch the game and just calm down a Tech at least Lundy was trying to cover the but he can't he can't he never has been able to and but then these were just straight up there nobody ran with them and then Aon sent us a a p a clip of crier actually running with the kid on the when he was doing his job but that opened up the Run Lane for casianos to run for 25 yards on the last drive it's like it's just it's not all clicking right
