NFC North Report: GB Vs PHI Week 1

what is up D Lions fans we are back and welcome to the first edition of the NFC North report where I watch the games so you don't have to now the goal here is for Lions fans to be well informed about what is going on around the NFC North so when it comes to our divisional games you can be better informed so you're not just a Slappy saying well the Detroit Lions are Going to beat the Green Bay Packers because the Green Bay Packers and that's just the way that it is or they're going to beat the Vikings because the Vikings suck or they're going to beat the Bears because the Bears suck well we want to give you all of the information so you can confidently say the Bears suck the Packers suck and the Vikings suck but there might be some tidbits of information that make you say h now such and such a player is very good good news when we watch the Packers play the Philadelphia Eagles and we're going to get into it the whole Jordan love is Elite narrative kind of took a hit and we'll talk about the stats we'll talk about all the things that happened hopefully Jordan love is okay looked like a knee injury there we don't know exactly the specifics but we'll keep an eye on that situation so we're going to go ahead and give a recap from ESPN and then I'll break it down and give my commentary over what I saw exactly what I liked what I didn't like what I thought the line ions could exploit now remember this is the first game of the season so the things that the Lions may be able to exploit may not ring true when it's time for us to play them later on in the season because we're not playing them tomorrow if it was tomorrow yeah then it would ring true and this is why we're going to try to track them for the entire season so we know exactly what is what throughout all right so let's go ahead and get right into it uh saquan Barkley scored three touchdowns in his debut for Philadelphia leading the Eagles Past the Green Bay Packers 34-29 on Friday night in the first NFL game in South America Packers quarterback Jordan love limped off the field with assistance after getting injured with six seconds left backup Malik Willis was sacked by Zack Bond on the final play of the game preventing him from launching a Hail Mary from the Philadelphia 47 Barkley for 109 yards and scored on an 18yd catch and runs of 11 and2 yards Barkley spent six season with the New York Giants before Philadelphia signed him to a three-year $ 37.75 million deal with $26 million guaranteed he became the first player to score three touchdowns in his Eagles debut since Terrell Owens in 2004 Jaylen Herz was 20 of 34 for 278 yards with two touchdowns and two inter interceptions for the Eagles AJ Brown caught five passes for 119 yards including a 67 yd touchdown Green Bay's Jaden Reed scored on a 33 yard Jet Sweep and a 70 yard reception which was the longest touchdown completion of Love's career Reed caught Love's pass inside Philadelphia's 40 and made a move at around the 30 that sent safety CJ Gardner Johnson sprawling CJ Gardner Johnson cidd Deuce yeah he was looking like a big CD deuce today so if you were glad he was gone kudos to you if you weren't glad he was gone well have to eat a little bit of Humble Pie and admit that yeah he should have been gone all right based off of his play today I don't know he may pick it up but we don't really care because he's on the Eagles now so Reed became the first player to have a touchdown catch of 30 plus yards and a touchdown run of 30 plus yards in a season opener since Hall of Famer Jim Brown of the Cleveland Browns against Washington in 1963 does this mean Jaden Reed is going to be a Hall of Famer no just means he did it and it was a long time since it's been done Reed also had an apparent 38 yard touchdown reception on the opening drive get wiped out because both teams had 12 men on the field he finished with four catches for 138 yards very interesting I've never seen both teams have 12 men on the field at the same time I guess they were playing some CFL football there but nevertheless they had to do it over again and uh the result was not the same so love went 17 of 34 for 260 yards with two touchdowns and an interception we're going to get to that in a minute Barkley's third touchdown put the Eagles ahead 31 to 26 with 426 left in the third quarter Reed blankin ship set up that score with an interception that gave Philadelphia the ball at Green base 25 the Eagles still LED 3126 when Jer Alexander intercepted Herz In The End Zone early in the fourth quarter Green Bay drove into the Red Zone but settled for a 26-yard field goal by rookie Braden narvon who went three for four on his attempts Philadelphia then controlled possessions until Jake Elliott kicked a 21 yd field goal with 27 seconds left some Eagles players had expressed reluctance earlier this week about traveling to Brazil which cost them the opportunity to play their season opener in front of a friendly crowd at Lincoln Financial Field the crowd at Neo uh Neo Arena instead was balanced among Packers fans Eagles fans and Spectators who just cheered any positive development players from both teams were slipping on on the playing surface throughout the first half a Brazilian soccer league game was played in the stadium 5 days earlier Neo quika Arena's field is often praised by soccer players as Brazil's best but it had never hosted an American football game the hybrid field includes both grass and synthetic fiber the slippery service may have contributed to a sloppy start Philadelphia committed turnovers on each of its first two series enabling Green Bay to start back-to-back drives in the red zone but the Packers settled for field goals both times then the offenses took over six of the next seven possessions resulted in touchdowns injuries Eagles uh linebacker Devin white ankle didn't play the Packers were missing running backs AJ Dylan and Marshon Lloyd Dylan went on injured reserve last week with a neck issue and Lloyd was out with a hamstring injury so next week the Packers host the Indianapolis on September uh Sunday September 5 15th and the Eagles host the Falcons which we don't really care about all right so what I thought about this game I thought that the Philadelphia Eagles did everything they could to give the Packers this W and the Packers could not pull it out as I said Jordan love was 17 for 34 for 26 yards two touchdowns and an interception if you are keeping score at home that is 50% completion 50% completion rate by Jordan Second Coming Love people have been asking me Chef why the Jordan love hate they don't get it they don't understand it well I simply say if he hasn't done it for an entire season I don't want to hear that he's an MVP candidate did remember the 33rd team what was that guy's name Dave something don't remember his name I'll get it later but he said that Jordan Jordan love would win the MVP now his MVP candidacy took a hit not just because of his play but we do know he was injured and we don't know what that is going to look like going forward hopefully he's not out for too long if anything hopefully it was just a sprain um obviously we would like to say oh it was just a bruise or anything of this nature because we never want to see anyone hurt doesn't matter if they play for our most hated Rivals we don't want to see people hurt and injured and not be able to play their season but that is a part of the game so hopefully he gets well soon speedy recovery and nothing too serious but the play play part was what I looked at as very non MVP esque I understand that it is the first game of the season he threw an interception he could have thrown three he put the ball in harms way three times one where ncoe Dean broke on the ball perfectly and for whatever reason couldn't Corral it and go for a pick six it wouldn't have been just a regular interception it was a definite pick six and then the very next play he puts the ball into double coverage and quinan Mitchell knocks it away and it was a tip drill type of ball and it could have been intercepted by the Philadelphia Eagles but it wasn't so this thing with Jordan love being such a fantastic quarterback just it's not ringing true I can't see where it's coming from as I said and as I've been saying one half of a season is not enough to Crown someone we need to see them go throughout the entire season and even when the the Philadelphia Eagles were trying they were trying their best to give this game away I mean penalty after penalty and I'm not saying it was the referee's fault because the Philadelphia Eagles were actually committing these penalties it was not just oh the referee called something the referees cheat no no no no none of that stuff was happening the Philadelphia Eagles were actually committing these penalties most of them were dumb penalties the Philadelphia Eagles defense most of the night refused to tackle they were out of position there were blown coverages everywhere but this is the first game of the season so most teams are no longer playing their starters in the preseason and this is kind of what we get in the first game of the season overall I was not impressed uh Josh Jacobs let's see what were Josh Jacobs stats Josh Jacobs had six carries for four yards in the first half now somebody told me that Josh Jacobs was going to be the best running back in the NFC North all right now he did break some big runs in the second half most of these were the result of there just being huge gaping holes somehow in in in the uh Philadelphia Eagles defensive line I I couldn't figure it out myself I'm like how do you how do you bottle a man up for six carries four yards in the first half and then in the second half you just like you're parting the Red Sea you're just letting him go through there there was really only one play play where he broke a tackle in the back field and then got an 8 y gain where you said oh that was all Josh Jacobs okay very quick shout out to Squan Barkley I know my sequin Barkley take was I had to see it from saquan Barkley because to me he underperformed in New York he has all the talent he has all the ability he hasn't been able to stay on the field this game he came out he was healthy he ran strong um he ran with power he finished his runs and one thing I did say is that the offensive line in Philadelphia though they have lost Jason Kelce they are not the offensive line of the New York Giants which wasn't great so I was interested to see what um saquin would be able to do behind that defensive line um and I think that is or offensive line sorry and I think that is the reason that a lot of people were high on him coming to Philadelphia I just had to see it first uh three touchdowns 109 yards in his in his Eagles debut that was a damn good job that was a damn good game by saquan Barkley so kudos to him if he keeps that up and he's able to continue to see those type of holes and things of this nature because Jaylen Herz is only going to get better throughout the season he didn't have a great game um this game couple turnovers here and there I I mean the beginning of the game was sloppy they turned the ball over on the first two drives um he lost a fumble he wound up throwing two interceptions so that's three turnovers um and the Packers again still could not overcome the turnover well not overcome the turnovers but they couldn't win the game when turnovers were being gifted to them okay because they won the turnover battle usually when you win the turnover battle you win the game but that was not the case uh the penalties largely on the eagle side uh penalties just piled up throughout the game though for all the for both teams but on the Eagles I mean like I said just inexplicable unnecessary penalties lots of formation penalties you know illegal formation um it it seemed like every time the Packers got on third down and there was an incomplete pass cuz there were a lot of incomplete passes 17 to be exact 17 completed 17 incomplete so it seemed like every time they got into a third down situation and there was there was an incomplete pass or there was a there was a run that was stuffed for no gain or a loss well there was a penalty that came from the Eagles and it was an automatic first down whether it was pass interference whether it was defensive holding whether it was roughing the passer whether it was whatever was it was a lot um so I didn't think that the Eagles really played well at all which is another kind of feather in our cap if we look at the Packers struggling against a team that was also struggling and not only did they struggle they lost okay so my stock report Jordan love still has to prove it okay okay that's Chef One National media zero okay cuz Jordan love did not look like the guy that they're they're they're saying that he is there were drops I'm not saying that there weren't any drops now but there were also bad passes there were also inaccurate passes which caused these incompletions to happen so you know Packers got to go back to the drawing board um Matt laflor excellent scheme most of the passes that Jordan love hit were to wide open wide receivers wide open and as I said there were a lot of broken coverages um but it's it was just the scheme right the scheme that he Matt laflor scheme his ass off he schemed people open all night long there were not a lot of tight window throws there were not a lot lot of contested catches uh it was just a lot of wide open wide receivers now again there were some drops so scoffing at not having a number one receiver and having four number tws okay the only one that looked like he was valuable on that team all night was Jaden Reed the only one Romeo dobs was dropping balls Christian Watson was dropping passes okay Quin Mitchell looked good okay Quin Mitchell was he had some sticky tight coverage on um Christian Watson whenever he was on him so that is the NFC North report for the Green Bay Packers so once again the Green Bay Packers drop the game in week number one 34-29 to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil the Packers are currently at the bottom of the NFC North at 0 and one and we'll be waiting and watching especially for these Detroit Lions to open the season against the Los Angeles Rams uh um Matt laflor scheme was damn good right I did say that so we've got to figure it out okay I heard though I heard from reliable sources a guy named Ben Johnson terion Arnold's coverage is super sticky so if that proves to be true then I think we'll be just fine because the quick game and the quick passes um that that they get and they're not just quick passes like two three yards pass line of scrimmage they're like 5 6 Seven 8 10 yards pass the line of scrimmage so as long as we can have sticky coverage um and we don't get fooled by The Crossing routes and the things like of this nature that they do trying to get underneath the zone and all that stuff I think we will be fine against the Green Bay Packers uh but that is the biggest thing that we have to worry about their quick game right now Jordan love is not someone that I'm looking to worry about I'm sorry I just don't see it so minimes and everybody all you people in the National media you know where to find me as always
