Welcome To Paradise AA Hawaii just outside of Honalulu and the home of the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors a tremendous setting and a spectacular game that we have in store what an exciting matchup we have in store for you this afternoon built around the pageantry tradition and everything that makes college football great as we'll see a squad from the Big 10 the you CLA Bruins taking on a team from the Mountain West the Hawaii Rainbow War Warriors for EA Sports college football Reese Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer time to get this game started and the Bruins will get us underway with the opening kickoff from inside the 10 here he comes nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 so Hawaii's offense will start this game off and this wide receiver he's the Lynch p to the offense they want to make sure they find a multitude of ways to get him the football and it's a risk reward scenario on defense when you're trying to cover this Sky re because you play a man coverage you risk intercepted didn't get much on the return but what a huge play and they are in business at the 24 man does it get any better than that creating a turnover on the very first play of the game you talk about doing this all week and you talk about we can beat this team we're going to go out there and execute and to do it the first snap belief climbing through the roof baby couldn't ask for better field position for this offense LS to throw on first down off the play fake pulls it in it's Harden he's brought down quickly minimal gain there still a bit short of the first down the Bruins are in the hurry [Applause] up back to throw it's garbers a little too much on that one just out of his reach we'll see if they go back to the air after the incompletion it's third and five out of the shotgun on third down he snares it in the end zone touchdown UCLA UCLA what a grab it what a quick strike for that offense and when I'm an offensive coordinator and I see a short field I'm thinking attack attack attack go get that touchdown take advantage of what the defense gave you great job by the offensive coordinator ling up to add another and the extra point makes it seven nothing quick strike offense on that three-play scoring drive and the finisher an 18yd touchdown throw kickoff team is on the field they'll try to drive this one deep he'll bring it back from inside his SP really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 the Hawaii offense returns to the field well the good news about this drive J it can't go worse than last time through a pick on the first play no it certainly can't I think one good way David to help your quarterback Turn the Page is just find him an easy completion here and let him get back into a r yeah or find him an easy hand off just hand the football off maybe get the ground game going maybe jump start this offense a little bit how bold will they be on third down after that last run from the gun wants to pass unloads to the wide out got him downfield and they pick up a better then 30 yd on that completion before the defense brings him down well we know this guy is special and because of that his quarterback is looking to him on critical down and distances there on that third down there was no question it wouldn't have mattered if he was single covered double covered man Zone that's where he was going with it and the Big Time playmaker outside picks up the first [Applause] off the play fake on first down to throw complete in the middle ripping off a good chunk inside the 25 and they're set up with a first down he's going to [Applause] pass snares it outside it's Perry and he goes out of bounds after a nice pick up on that one there going to run it brought down after a pick up of two to the 19 the Rainbow Warriors have taken it inside the 20 now the play fake and a missed opportunity on third down as the defense knocks it free and fourth down is coming up and the field goal unit is on the field absolutely perfect that makes the UCL after putting up the field goal they're set to kick it away he'll bring it out from inside his own 10 really disciplin J by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so they start this drive from inside their own 20 at the 19 yd line used the play fake now to throw and the quarterback goes down at the 11 yd line flag [Applause] that's the end of the quarter and UCLA has the lead one period in the books and let's take a look at the [Music] stats heading in the opposite directions now as we Crank It Up in the second negative play on first down that's what a defense always wants looking downfield it's garbers getting some heat good job to toss that ball out of bounds and avoid the loss you make up the game plan and not a lot on the play sheet for this third and long from inside their own 20 feeling some heat and he was hit just as he released it and it falls to the turf and the Bruins will call on their punt team three and out and not much choice but to get rid of the ball he only needs a sliver of daylight that Nifty return sets up the offense and negates some of the yardage on the punt Hawaii ready to go back to work on offense Jesse they had to kick a field goal the last time they had it yeah often times early in games you're just trying to find your Rhythm some things work some don't on that first drive David be interesting to see what happens here in the second Drive yeah you got to feel for the defense now you understand what they're trying to do what their game plan is now you get to go the phase two of your game plan they'll snap it from the 30 on first down he's looking to throw it trying to get to him quarterback can't pull the trigger and down he goes at the 41 get a pass rush like that and the Brewing faithful will give you an eight clap and a heartbeat they'll get jacked up they'll get excited and when you think about a defense you got to get those guys up front you want to dominate colge football you want to be in the mix find those big defensive linemen that can make plays after the big first down sack it's second down here's the handoff crosses the 40 gets it down to the 35 before he stopped a gain of six I'm not positive but that first down marker might be in the next County on Third and long he'll need to loosen up that arm going to try to pop one on the screen they play that screen nicely he tried to find his way to the marker but it'll be fourth down they'll have to settle for a field goal attempt smashes it between the uprights UCL [Music] after putting up a three spot the kickoff unit set to go here's the return from inside is 10 and that's the end of the line for the return man but still business to attend to a penalty marker is down so the decision has been made and the coach will take take the penalty on first down here comes this offense he wants to throw fires to the wide out he makes a catch and wait just a second the officials going to take a second look at this one and they take another look at the play with few officials on the field we're right and the play will stand incomplete and he threw that one up for grabon into traffic forun to get it back after the quarterback and receiver failed to hook up they'll try it again on second down and the ball is picked off and they'll close in on him after a good return on the interception man that is Picture Perfect cover zero when I play cover zero I'm bringing pressure and that Ball's going to come out look at the defense ready for that ball to come out of the quarterback's hand nice job breaking on the football and going and making the interception [Music] Hawaii has it back as they send the offense onto the field they've had a couple of productive drives but they've had to settle for field goals in two of their three previous possessions Jesse yeah this is an offense that takes a lot of pride in execution and they feel like they should have scored a touchdown every single drive so while it's been good not great David just execute a little bit better and they can put this one in the end zone this time yeah I think you point that out we went all the way down the field on two of our first three drives and got field goals now just a little better execution when you that field starts to strink and it gets a little bit more difficults it in gets it inside the five down to the four it'll be first and goal there's a timeout call as this offense tries to find a way to draw a little closer dropping back it's shager got it and he won't be able to push his way in he's stopped at the one now it's second and goal they'll try to pound their way in and he takes it to the house touchdown Rainbow Warriors and that is exactly what you want from your offense man late in the half you want to execute and then punch it in physically on the ground take the lead go into the half take all the momentum nice execution of the drive by that offense and the extra point is good and the lead is six a very efficient five play scoring drive and they capped it off with a one yd punt on the run from inside his own five nice job executing all of the assignments as they put a stop to that return at the 22 the UCLA offense is back on the field ready to go to work so late in the half this is really an opportunity David maybe to swing the momentum in their favor dang right there's no time to be conservative we're a little bit down listen I just think this is a point with the offense that they can prove like we're here we're going to create something now that we can build on in the second coach said all week he wanted to be aggressive this is a great opportunity to show that right now at the end of the first half try and generate some momentum score some points and he Motors into the end zone touchdown ruin UCL quarterback's abilities to read the field is huge and also the anticipation the timing to be able to throw the football Jesse and hit a guy in stride so he can get run after the catch and get in the end zone that was a nice job by the quarterback yeah it's critical David listen a lot of times touchdown passes aren't thrown into the end zone you've got to read the coverage hit the open guy and let him do the rest getting set for the point after on for the extra point and the extra point gives him the lead of 1413 this offense Prides itself on going after you and they did with that long touchdown pass to finish off a two-play drive from inside the 10 yd line he'll bring it back really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 first and they're going to throw it to start the drive grabbed in the middle it's Walton they make the stop trying to pick up just a little bit at a time to get to that first down marker the give to the back they'll knock him down and that'll take us to halftime that's going to wrap up the first half here and now we join Kevin with the halftime update man nice to see you actually showed up for today's broadcast in Paradise given all there is to do there in Honolulu and it's been said football is a game of inches and guess what based on the comparison between third down conversion rate today and the average yard per play how can you argue that I mean the low-lying fruit is to look at some of the explosive plays we've seen in panic but really this game is going to come down to which team is more efficient when they have the ball and how they play when it matters most and with that let's say aloha once again to the guys inside aloha Stadium UCLA will go back to work on offense they had this lead to start the third quarter because of the passing game didn't get a lot done on the ground they didn't but the quarterback is in a rhythm that was obvious in the first half and so this first drive you want to continue that you want to see good decision making you want to see him playing on time and as always delivering the football with after I mean I don't know how I don't give him the football it's the reason I built the lead he's the guy that I can trust this offense is built around him so I more of the same here in the second half really nice throw there I tell you UCLA they've got an impressive history book of quarterbacks going all the way back to Rick neisel Troy Aman is a name people will recognize Kade mcnown back in my day and then recently DTR was carving up defenses to throwing it got to be able to make good decisions you got to be able to deliver strikes through the air and this guy right now is doing just that trying the left side and he's able to find a little bit of Running Room before they get him down now the Bruins come to the line in the hurry up touch pass on the Jet Sweep really putting together a threat now they got the first hits at the 37 and the Bruins are on the move and first running back searching for a hole smashes through just what this offense was looking for sets him up at the 26 with a first down dropping back it's garbers gets it out fast and he's able to shed one tackle and gets a pretty good pickup the Bruins have moved it inside the 20 on second down wants to throw it loads to the wide out got it goes out of bounds just short of the goal line and they'll be set up and in great position here they'll run it on first and goal and he takes it in for the score touchdown UCLA UCLA that was a great example of a running back toing the rock with conviction there's not a lot of time to hesitate if you see a split second you see a hold you've got to hit it right now now nice job by the RB there ready to try the point after the kick is up and good and put one more on the lead about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown Hawaii 1 for inside his own 10 he'll try to help out their field position didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 comes out throwing on first down working that left side now makes the tackle at the 32 but they were backed up inside their 20 and they pick up 15 he'll come out throwing on first down catch in the middle it's Perry they got him free for a big gain down to the 43 nice job by the receiver on the end route there and how about the speed after he made his break he was able to actually separate a little bit from the DB helping out his QV on that one offense lines up for a first and 10 from the 43 looking to move it through the air and they couldn't hold off the heat and he goes down with the sack and the defense there goes Zone coverage maybe confused the quarterback a little bit forced them to hold on to the football and that allowed the pass rush to get home a big play for the defense with the first down sack now Advantage d as the offense comes up on second down they'll go to the ground they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one this is a third and long looking downfield and he needs a bunch they're setting up the screen defense was not fooled by that screen to the back and they'll stop him short of the marker it'll be fourth down it'll go out of bounds and we'll see where they mark it it's going to be right around the 35 that's the end of the quarter and UCLA has the lead three quarters are in the book time becomes a factor both in trying to hold the lead or cut into it as we take a look at the stats one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the victory UCLA offense is back on the field ready to go to work he makes the connection he knew exactly where he wanted to go with that one and they've got enough for the first down they broke don't fix it right this is what got this team in this position to win this game aggressive offense taking shots here we are quarterback tried to scramble around for a while but the defense able to bring him down they tried to go play action but that did not affect the defensive tackle he was Bull rushing his guy collapsing the pocket he comes away with a sack they'll try to keep that sack from Wrecking this drive here on second and 15 to the air it's garbers throws to the wide out he's got an open man oh and the defense in Chase mode and they finally get him down at the 35 and the Bruins want to move [Applause] quickly off the play fake on first down wants to throw and this will be incomplete a big hit there forces second down couldn't make the connection last time let's see if they throw it again he's looking for an open man on second down snagged in the middle it's third of it they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground cover to pick up the first third on Third and long trying to have a big completion here finds his back in the middle and they stop just short of the stick it'll bring up a decision on fourth down so here we are on fourth down and this field goal kicker is going to face all the pressure in the world it's good and now the leaves extended a little far you know it's funny in an age where there's so many college football analytics and everybody wants to go for it on fourth down at the end of the day it still comes down to managing good decision by the head coach here in the fourth quarter by kicking that field goal you now made it a two possession game your chances of winning this thing have now gone way up after putting three on the board the kickoff unit ready to go and he takes this from inside the five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 the Hawaii offense return first to the field that last Drive won't go on the Highlight Reel after ending in a punt they'd like to be more productive this time David and I think this offense has to be a little bit more balanced find a little balance between the Run Jesse and working in that pass and I think too David it's just going to take a spark it just takes one play to get this thing picked up and going to the air it's shager fires to the wide out just missed his man gave him just a little too much good couldn't find his man last time and that leaves him with a third and six from the gun wants to pass good timing on the quick out building momentum picking up a chunk of yardage moving the chains out to the 34 and even though they're trailing here in the fourth quarter they've got a quarterback that can bring them back but they need him now to play his A+ level of football we saw a nice completion on that last third down let's see if he can keep it going and the Rainbow Warriors are marching down the field we hit the two-minute warning and this offense is desperate to make something happen and do it in a hurry looking to throw it again finds a man in the middle and he found all kinds of room and got it down to the 28 trying to get everybody set with the clock still running trying to find his man on first down all kinds of room to throw that one in there he is down at the one a terrific run after the throw and catch the offense will have to use its first time out of the half takes a snap wants to throw and it's a touchdown but hold on just a second we'll have to see what the flag's about we'll repeat the previous down but this time the offense has 10 more yards at has to [Applause] cover wants to go up top pressure coming if the quarterback's a little more On Target there maybe they hook up but it's an incompletion defense roll up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming coming after him and that's just a flat misfire not even close to his receiver and they'll try to fight a chunk out of this lead on third and goal back to pass it's shager looking for the score it's incomplete he was shooting for the end zone right there so this field goal unit has been getting the job done they've already made a couple here today he got it nice job making that field goal you're down in possession here late in the game you've got two timeouts in your back pocket you trust your defense to be able to go out get a stop and get you the football back for one final shot we're going to [Music] see not much of a choice here down by a score late they'll line up for the onside kick cool as a cucumber as the hands team makes a sure catch UCLA will go back to work on offense one possession game getting late first order of business just take care of the football so they call this situation 4minute offense where you're trying to run the football and throw high percentage passes to maintain possession and bleed the clock this is a very difficult point of the game to execute at a high level though yeah and listen what you understand as an offense is if I get one or two first downs this ball game's over and that's your sole objective not scoring take care of the football get a few first downs walk out with the a third and long coming up here they'll run it trying to drain time off the clock they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one the Bruins will send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away punt goes out of bounds and a really nice job as they stick them deep in their own end they'll mark it around the 10 they'll throw it on first down fires to the right got his man he's right out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down now we'll hang on here the coach has called a timeout he wants the officials to take another look thinks he's got a good shot at getting this one overturned the coach still thinks he was right the officials say he was not the challenge is denied and the timeout is gone to the air on first down unloads to the white out it's caught finally run out of bounds but he has his offense rolling with a first down he's going to pass throws to the Wi out just a bit of a misfire there as they can't make the connection got to get everybody lined up quickly time winding away and they've got to push the ball down the field pocket starts to collaps not much of a chance there he just had to get rid of it to avoid the sack no time to waste here they've got to get set and pick up chunk yardage trying to move the sticks on third down through the air didn't have much of a choice just had to throw that one away it'll be fourth down no sign of the punt team as they will go for it and try to move those [Applause] chains here's a throw downfield late this is picked off in the end zone but the officials are saying he was out of bounds just an incomplete pass and a huge break for the offense
