for him he's making his major league debut here and I'm sure he's got some nerves he'll be excited for that first pitch to be in and over with so that he can settle in to pitching just like he did in the minor leagues exciting moment he's got his family in town I think This Moment's going to be a huge tone Setter for his career ready to go Jose Altuve up to H here trying to pick up his first knock in the big leagues and the pitch that missed by a lot and we're underway and a base hit up the [Applause] middle so a man on base to start the inning Jose Altuve with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get here here's Jordan Alvarez looking for his first big league hit right here just missed one to [Applause] know in there at the knees and the count one and one nobody out runner at first and that's outside and it's two and one [Applause] that one ripped this one's got a chance that's down one hops Off the Wall headed for the plate he scores and they have the lead one nothing so he gets two Milestones with that hit his first big league knock and he drives in his first run as well yeah you love to get both of those out of the way with just one swing at the back and it makes the special moment even more special it's not just an individual accomplishment when you're also driving in a run for your team that's an in bad he's never going to forget now the catcher up to hit Yer Diaz that one fouled off one on nobody out a run in and we're just getting started here in the top of the first and now it's even up man it's second and another ball two balls one straight the next offering misses and out three balls and a [Applause] strike righty delivers in the air out to Center freedel sizing this one up brings it in runer tags it second he is safe he's [Applause] safe now we check out the Astros lineup one guy leading the way offensively for this club right now Jose Altuve and Bo he's the table setter for this offense team leader an on base percentage I mean that just gives your teammates plenty of chances to cash in and bring him around to score man I used to love when I had a guy out in second base or third base easy to get those RBI game after game you know a guy like this what he's going to provide and the opportunities that other guys are going to get in the lineup Jeremy Peña in the box now no balls in a [Applause] strike one away with a runner at [Music] [Applause] third just miss [Applause] that misses the zone and it's two and one rander kick deals and that one fouled off you can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch but just a little Tardy on the fast [Applause] ball puts it in the air out towards left Center he's got it Runner tagging from third the throws offline he's safe it's two nothing well that's a quality at bat right there you know the situation you need something in the air and deep enough and that's exactly what he did good pass to the baseball and here's the first [Applause] baseman hard hit right side he takes it himself to the bag and and that'll do it so they get a couple of runs on two hits no errors and no one left on on to the bottom of the first it's the Astros 2 the Reds coming [Music] up now back here at Great American Ballpark and towing the slab in this one Justin Verlander Chris you don't have to dig too deep into the numbers to see how good he's been oh he's been nearly Untouchable kind of a silent assassin out there just goes to work and guys look up it's deep into the ball game and they haven't been able to scratch anything off of this guy so look for him to do the same thing today maybe Go the Distance maybe hand it over to the bullpen at the end and try to get that W as he turns on the rubber here with that good live arm delivers and first off ring is fouled off swing and a little roller right side and that's just foul well after putting up a nice Inning on offense got some runs across this is where you look for the starter to go out there have a shutdown inning don't give that other team any hope uh you just hope that he can get through this inning get the bats back up there while they're hot righty to the plate line and that's a base hit Soo Runner aboard to start the inning Jonathan India with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you can take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get here so man aboard stepping in is the switch hitting Short Stop Ellie De La Cruz and that one pulled foul you know one of the most memorable Innings ever for Ellie happened in July 2023 in one inning De La Cruz hit a two- out single to take the lead and then proceeded to do something that a Red's player hasn't done in more than 100 years he stole second third and Home in the same inning it only took two pitches for him to to steal all three bases and the right-hander deals fought off [Applause] foul the short stop takes the ball [Applause] runner at first with no outs here L drive and he makes the catch all right let's take a look at the lineup singy this lineup has the benefit of playing behind a great pitching stat they've got a really low ER yeah and you know with that said there's not as much pressure on the offense but make no mistake about it guys want to hit the ball hard and they want to score runs they want to jog around the bases hitting the ball over the fence so regardless of how dominant the staff can be the attitude is we want to go out there and have some fun with the bat so we'll see one big inning in this one you know could be all they need but you'd like to have multiple big innings next pitch is [Applause] outside and another [Applause] ball next pitch in for a strike three and one one way to make a guy real uncomfortable with the plate is pound him inside with good velocity they're doing that right here ground ball left side could be two over to Altuve and that's two one hit in the inning but nothing more than that we move to the second here in Cincinnati it's the Astros two and the Red's nothing back here in Cincinnati here's Ben gaml Ben gam the pitch in the air center [Applause] field and there's one [Music] down batting seven the third Bas here's Mauricio dubal s you talk about a guy that has all the skills the range is really good but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays right through there for a strike and because of that big Power arm is's able to play a little bit deeper make throws from The Outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner that's impressive base hit just kind of sliced that one into Center Mauricio dubon with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a [Applause] nothing and welcome back to the ballpark theed now TJ Fredo tjo and a [Applause] pitch lays out but he can't squeeze it and he baits it that's a hit great try there TJ fredel with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can steer getting ready to hit right through there for a strike go ball one strike and the 01 and there's a foul ball the Reds down by a pair bottom half of inning number two got him and one gone and that's the first strike out of his major league career and it could be the first of many if he meets the goals he's set for himself and the expectations others have for him doesn't want to just win games he wants to dominate at this level do you think Young pitchers can sometimes get too caught up in trying to rack up KS early in their career Bo I think they can it's kind of like a hitter that doesn't have power The Thrill is still hitting a ball over the fence and so for a guy even if he doesn't have power stuff or strikeout stuff a strikeout is still something that makes him stick his chest out a little bit [Applause] [Music] further Verlander moved to First first and he's back safely now one and one Clyde Washington with home plate duties in this one little bit of a low Zone Boo from Clyde nothing crazy though pitchers they work consistently down around the knees and are able to command their offs speed stuff tend to have some pretty good success with him back there behind the plate misses the zone and he gets him to chase man that was pretty gross right there man at first one [Applause] away this one in the air right field Hayward under it Hayward pulls that one [Applause] down that the right and now the right fielder Jake [Music] Frey the TRU youed me when I C my [Music] cir and there's a strike on the outside corner wow just a beautiful back door slider right there if You' got any chance of hitting that pitch you have to wait until the absolutely last now this ball is well hit this one's got a chance and it's a one hopper Off the Wall should be extra bases the Run scores all the way from first it's 2-1 so he gets two Milestones with that hit his first big leag knock and he drives in his first run as well yeah you love to get both of those out of rewarded did a nice job of getting to the pitch and hitting it hard enough to get over the fence and now it's Ahmed Rosario and a foul ball two out space is [Applause] empty out towards right center field McCormick trying to get there and that is the third out of the inning Cincinnati plates a pair on this Homer it's now a 32 ball game [Music] and we're back and now the center fielder Chaz mccan MCC well after scoring runs this is where you're looking for that shut down inning get that hot team back in there to swing the bats and a pitch Off the Mark there one and0 well the offense has gotten up next to the Astros the designated hitter yordon Alvarez now it's yordon Alvarez he doubled home a run in his first [Applause] abincin and a foul ball left side Alvarez in his fifth season batting second in today's lineup and he was born in [Applause] [Music] Cuba the 01 no SL just missed with that back door breaking ball if he gets a swing and miss or called strike 02 count instead it's 1-1 look for him to go back to that pitch later in this atat kicks and fires little Chopper rolls [Applause] foul now move to First McCormick back on a dive tying run is it first we're here in the top [Music] two ready to go for the last half of the inning Jonathan indot the play berlander back to work right through there for a strike well these Reds doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side and here's a stat for you boo they're making contact with more than 85% of the pitches that they're swinging at it's pretty special stuff not so good if you're out there on the map into the Outfield base hit man aboard on the lead off single you know I was watching his rounds during batting practice today so impressed with his ability to let the ball travel go back up the middle in the other way sometimes when you step in the Box during the game you get a little anxious and you get away from that but so far I've seen him stay consistent with his pregame preparation Ellie De La Cruz the next to hit and there's one thing on his mind this at bat getting that first hit at the big league level out towards Right Center that's well struck and it's gone home run his first Homer of the year and they add a couple more it's 52 he ambushed him right there sing yeah swinging on that first pitch and I think losing one over the fence is exactly what he had in mind as well yeah see what you to me well he went up there o looking to do damage I think he had his sight set on that pitch he went and got it and circled the bases perfect Precision your ideal so deep in my train our M until we're walking down Tyler Stevenson the next to hit for the Reds over for one so far swanging a highfly ball in the air left field gammer raging back towards the wall holds it in on the warning track just pulled off of it a little bit right there that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed if he does that he's going to be Ballpark and now the first baseman number 28 number 2 all right the pitch and there's the strike this guy's got such a good Sinker as a hitter you've got to look up in the zone if you look down you're going to be chasing stuff in the dirt left-and hitter Waits that's off the mark and it's one and one and here it comes he swings and fouls one [Applause] [Applause] off gets a piece and stays seeing very patient bats out of them they're doing a good job of working the pitch count and they've been able to push a couple of runs across the score as well the Reds leading by four top half of inning number four on good eye right there still relatively early but with the pair of runs already on the board the ripple effect of that high pitch count might set him up to do more damage later in this game foul ball still a one and two [Applause] count line drive and that's a base hit to the right throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out now Ben gamble with his first major one out now here is Jason Hayward he hit into a double play his first time up [Applause] and that's in there for strike one here's an opportunity if you're going to get back in this game you have to take advantage of this situation this feels like their chance the pitch this one smoked out to left drops into the glove man that's one of those ADV bats where you have to remind yourself it's about the process he did everything right right there nothing to show for it but in your mind you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat so first and second with two outs and stepping in for the Astros Chaz mccormic one for one with a single so far that's in for a strike on the outside corner one first and second two down [Applause] line to right and that'll be a base hit throw in holds the lead runner at third so it'll be bases loaded and two gone couple of hits in a row for him here really good swing right there he got a pitch that he knew he could handle allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game [Applause] Altuve the next to hit takes [Music] outside next [Applause] two and the pitch bals it off still one and two [Applause] two outs that one ran inside almost got him well this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atat I'm sure there's sometimes where pitcher rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter [Applause] and he deals swinging a foul ball at the plate they'll do it again and it's Ball Four he missed down low it wasn't easy but he earned that walk after a long at bat well that's a nice job of grinding out that at bat saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the walk very gritty and next to hit for Houston Yer Diaz and that's outside and that's ball [Applause] one and there's the [Applause] strike the 1-1 that one is absolutely belted and one hops Off the Wall should be extra bases coming around third is Alvarez R home not in time the Run scores they lead it now it's 76 well there you go the RBI machine another clutch run scoring it back yeah he's been so good in these situations call it clutch if you want but his resume speaks for itself now it's the short stop Jeremy Peña he's over for one this one in the you want to get a one-way lead be very aggressive in the secondary this hitter not a power guy so you want to make sure that you can get some link on the secondary lead and perhaps scoring a ball in the Gap two balls at a strike Here Comes ground ball left side could be two there's one how about that double play got what he was looking for on the mound right there and his infielders took care of business pretty textbook execution between short and second to turn that into two outs [Music] Ahmed Rosario the next to hit for the Reds ripped to third but handled and that will end the [Music] inning pitching change here stion and this is the best way to make your major league debut no one on base yeah you're already going to be a little nervous out there so I think it's a nice job by the skipper to get him in here without any added pressure with traffic on the bases and here's the first ban one for [Music] two here comes a pitch that one's upstairs ball one and it's w to know activity in the bullpen for the Reds Buck farmer getting ready to go Martinez getting loose as [Applause] well that one fouled off [Applause] kick Sandos that one off the mark two and [Applause] one wouldn't him to try to steal second base because he had a very standard lead at best if you're going to try to get there safely you've got to get more on that lead you've got to get a better jump that was the Tyler Stevenson I wouldn't expect many pitches up in the zone here pitcher looking for a strikeout or a ground ball hoping to keep that runner at third and that one just missed off the outside edge righty to the plate sliced hard but foul look out that ball smoked man I am so relieved that they have this netting down the lines just ensure safety for the fans last thing is a player you want to look up and see a fan get hit that's to third rolls across the diamond but the game is tied as the Run comes in well that's a produc bat right there I'm sure he wanted a knock but puts the ball in play brings that run in from third ties up the ball game and next will be the cleanup hitter TJ fredel just missed two down bases empty but one run across last half of inning number five that one not close and it's two and0 the wine of the Pitch hit hard that gets through so a two out Knock keeps the inning alive man those are the types of hits where you don't feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever such a good feeling smash that one through the infield for the knock when it's hit that hard it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play steer in the box with two gone hand didn't stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception and he knew right away it was an off speed pitch that misses and it's two and [Applause] one this one in the air has a beat on for the fans last thing is a player you want to look up and see a fan get hit and it drops in runner around third throw is off line and he scores and it's 98 so he gets two Milestones with that hit his first big leag knock and he drives in his first run as well yeah you love to get both of those out of the way with just one swing of the bat and it makes a special moment even more special it's not just an individual accomplishment when you're also driving in a run for your team that's an it bad he's never going to forget now the left fielder in [Applause] India in there at the knees he might want to steal second in this spot but he's dealing with a catcher that has one of the best pop times in the game he needs to pick his spot very wisely one out the possible tying and go-ahead runs on base and that's outside one one pitch misses there two and one it's a big opportunity right here but I love the way he's slowing the game down he's shrinking his Zone making sure he gets the pitch that he wants to hit righty to the plate Chris with that distraction and the Speedy guy at first he's in a favorable hitters count well if nothing else I mean this is a great spot for a hitter
