[Applause] morgant Town West Virginia home to The Mountaineers in a fan base that has been shall we say for paring since early in the morning for the battle we have in store what a game and what potential drama we have in store you've seen this script before top 10 team goes into a cauldron of emotion on the road and just hopes to be able to get out and tell about it as we see the number seven team in the country the Penn State nit lions taking on a team from the Big 12 the West Virginia Mountaineers for EA Sports college football Reese Davis with you alongside David Pollock and Jesse Palmer and guys can't wait to get this one started and the Mountaineers will kick it away to start us off on the move from inside is five really disciplined job by the coverage unit to get down there and make the stop at the 19 so the Penn State NY Lions offense will take the first swing of the game and as we watch this wide receiver come onto the field when you have a dude like this you find ways to get him the ball over and over again no matter what the defense tries to take away yeah because the defense can't win whether you double teaming we're still going to win and they're going to give him the ball in quick passes they're going to throw deep and they're going to take advantage of him every opportunity they can they will feed him they will feature him because he's just that good they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three the lone backs got it they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well they're just trying to run the ball but that time there was absolutely nowhere for the running back to go and as a result that's a tackle for loss they'll try to move the chains on Third and short from the 25 five dropping back it's all oh they really could have used that catch there physical pass defense it brings up a fourth down defense did a great job third and short on the opponent side of the field they're expecting quick throw everybody they dug their heel on the ground they're able to break on the ball Force the incompletion the NY Lions will putt this one away they'll have to punt for the first time this afternoon he'll settle for some pretty good field position and make the fair catch at around the 35 the Mountaineers offense has its first opportunity of the day when a guy gets off the ball as quickly as he does you know he's going to be breathing down your neck and you got to get rid of it Jesse this quarterback's good but he better have a clock going off in his head he knows he's not going to have a lot of time to get rid of the football that's a big matchup in this game well and that's what I love about this guy cuz he affects the quarterback whether he gets to him or not he knows he's there he's that kind of good coming off the edge let's see how this QB performs under pressure after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven the give to the running back from the shotgun and this one will be stopped for No Gain that back had absolutely nowhere to run the football actually is he counting I think he's counting to make sure there's only 11 guys on defense they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here on third down going up top unloads to the wide out complete in the middle he got to lose almost housed finally dragged down at the 32 man if I'm a defense I got to find a way to get some more pressure on the quarterback and disrupt their timing and their Rhythm I can't give them these big chunk plays through the air I got to be maybe a little bit more aggressive or do something a little bit different the Mountaineers will hustle to the line out of the shotgun they go to the ground not a whole lot of room as he gets a couple inside the 30 to the 29 and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs after picking up a couple at second and [Applause] eight looking for space it's white dances away from one oh it's a fumble oh looks as if the defense got it I love those smashes where you can hear it up here Reese goodness Grace you could hear the contact such a big lick the offensive guy doesn't hold on to the football huge momentum swing big turnover forced by the defense Penn State sends the offense back onto the field boy three and out last time David they'd like to be more productive this time around yeah in the last Drive nothing really clicked no rhythm got off the field really really quickly they need to put something together here yeah David bad execution on that last drive so they got to take a collective breath and start playing like a unit on this gve quarterback empties his back [Applause] field after the incompletion they go back up top caught over the middle it's Singleton theyy make the stop after the catch and still some work to do to pick up that first down not difficult not complicated but early in the game get in that Rhythm find that timing wide receiver so you're set up for for Success then you go attack deep later on lining up to convert third down it's a draw and he's down at the 41 that's a first down and here we go if you're an offense you've got to get that ground game going so you can have some balance and then you give it to your quarterback Palmer and let him make some plays down the field later on yeah exactly and know coming into this game this saw defense knew they were going to have to someway somehow at least establish the semblance of a running game for exactly what you just said you got to be able to use play action pass later in this game to get some explosive plays down the field and it's a play like that that we just saw which can help them get that going they'll finally drag him down but not before he gets it to the 40 and it's a first down sometimes your tight ends a safety valve and sometimes he's your go-to receiver and the offense knew right away it was the primary target it was where he was going with the football cuz you know you get a little bit of suck up from those linebackers with the play action and you feed the big fell on the run it's Singleton able to scr three yards out of that one somehow it's second and seven that's a really nice play it's impressive run it's first down and the defense thinks you might be running the football you still can line up get some movement at the point of attack and find a little crease for your running back got three on first down and second and seven give to the back across the 25 he's got room now he's got it all the way down to the 21 yd line and they are threatening on first down man they have got a weapon in this offense right there at running back this dude is tremendous and you think about Franco Harris you think about kajana Carter Curtis enus saquin Barkley time and time again Penn State running backs wearing defenses down this guy is a problem and this defense better find a way to slow him down P down after a pick up of six but he gets it inside the red zone is down at the 15 and that's the problem with blitzing on defense you live by the blitz you die by the blitz defense dialed up the pressure but the offense had a better play call they ran it away from the Blitz and that's why they were able to be successful they've softened them up with a run now to throw it snags it into the end zone touchdown Penn State one of the reasons this offense is so exciting to watch they've got guys that are dangerous after the catch if this quarterback gets through his progression David he hits you in stride these guys will take it to the house man it's your job to do the rest right you hit me in stride where I don't have to stop running I don't have to break down and makes it so easy the connection between quarterback wide receiver you can tell this is a good one and that's why they got six on that play and they did tack on the extra point lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive on the run from inside his own five he was looking for more Running Room but none to be found as he stopped at the 23 West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook they'll ride the running back and leave it with him yes it's a bit of a surge and he's knocked down after picking up three to the 26 I'll tell you this is a running back who's very very dangerous and the defense did a good job getting him down there but they got to do a great job gang tackling because this is a guy that can break tackles and turn those types of plays into home runs after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and seven here's the handoff they wrestle him to the ground but he's got plenty for a first down and I love these offensive coaches going right back to your guy I believe in you just because you fumbled doesn't mean I'm not going to give you the football yeah he's repaying the favor right now to this coaching staff as well and doesn't it just seem like he's running with a little bit more juice he looks like he's ticked off from the gun they'll try to impose their running game and he's brought down after a nice game first down physicality wins football games being able to run the football and create batt and right here just chews up another first down gives you another chance to maybe continue to run the football and I feel like this guy too is just an explosive play waiting to happen his vision his quickness and he's got a burst if you give this guy just a crease he's going to hit it and right now he's doing some damage on this defense a solid pick up there before the defense is able to make the stop I know the passing game sells the passing game is exciting but it's not exciting to get five or six yards a pop on the ground but it will be very successful halfway there on first down it's second and five from the shotgun they'll run it wrestled to the ground after picking up the first down I know this is an offensive line that has a ton of Pride they want to come out each and every game and really impose their will on the dline they got just enough push there on that run play to pick up the first and the Mountaineers will line it up on First and 10 looking to move it through the air H is tight end and they pick up just a few on that completion a nice job by the defense there tackling the catch and smothering the tight end they know this offense is going to try to find him in the passing game in a lot of different situations that time perfect coverage and nice job bringing the big guy down not easy to do that last completion sets him up on second down now they'll run the draw they get him down but he does pick up three to the 32 yd line at the 32 yd third coming [Applause] up time winding down in the quarter as they come to the line on Third and long trying to have a big completion here using the quick game and he's not going to get there the defense Stands Tall and makes the stop how about these two running games so far dominance on the ground as we look at the first quarter [Music] step lots of time left and we're ready to get back to it and open the second period thought maybe they would consider the field goal here but the offense is staying out there on fourth down draged down to the turf but not before getting the first down I love offenses that can just rely on their offensive line to get it done in fourth and short situations like that turn around hand it off let's stay on the field and keep this thing going just on the edge of the Red Zone first and 10 from the 21 movement here from the tight end might as well give it to him again runs through a tackle got some room headed to the goal line gets out of bounds after the big play and they'll be set up in business with a first and goal defensively you'll take the slow death you'll take three four five yards of pop but you can't give up the massive plays you got to do a better job containing the football making them run the guys and getting him on the ground for goodness sakes this guy is fast I know but defensively we got to swarm to the football and get him on the ground well Jet Sweep pass hard hitting tackle I like offenses being creative I'm not sure if that was the best place to call that play I think this offense needs to think about just doing things a little bit more by the book they've got a lot of good Playmakers you don't have to reinvent the wheel this early in the game can the defense stop them again on second and goal back to throw it's green pressure coming and he will be sacked at the 6yd line I think we need to see more Crea in the route running we need some Slants we need some outbreaking routes You're Expecting man coverage down this area of the field so you got to do something to create separation that brings us to Third and goal from the six after they went backwards on the last one from the gun wants to pass he wants it all pulls it in in the end zone touchdown West Virginia and what did nice start for this offense the throw game getting working getting the touchdown pass this quarterback getting a little bit of confidence this passing game getting in the Rhythm nice start for this offense [Music] now they'll line up for what they hope is automatic hit that one with some aggression for the point after precise Relentless execution on that 13pl scoring drive and they get it into the end zone with a 6-y touchdown pass all tied up and just about set to kick it away he'll bring it out it's sing tackled at the 24 and almost breaks even with the yage he would have gotten with a Touchback the NY Lions going back to work on offense now they go to the ground sweet beat on the move and he brought one tackle on the way to a solid pick up there coaches always harp about staying ahead of the chains and when you can run with that type of efficiency on first down man you are doing just that good spot after that seven yd pickup on first down it's second and three going to run it it's Singleton he's brought down but not before they pick up the big first down yeah has a really good job with the misdirection right bringing somebody's One Direction with so much speed the defense reacts now you bring another guy the other direction hard to see one and then react to the other especially with that kind of speed on the field that's why you had a big play on the Move that's what you expect from a senior don't give them any extra yards great tackle there you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer ones didn't get much on first down it's second and n to the air it's Allard just missed on the connection incomplete unfortunate with that incompletion the quarterback and his intended target not on the same [Applause] page even if they don't convert picking up a few would give them a decision to make on fourth down is third and long from the 45 from the gun wants to pass going deep and is knocked away an incomplete the defensive back staying in phase and batting it away well the defender got his hand on that one tipped it up in the air and offense man they're lucky that one wasn't okay the nitty Lions send out the punt unit this will be the second time they've had to kick it away you'd think they would have had a good chance to down that one deep but the bounce carries it into the end zone for the [Music] Touchback power football with the Run they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one well the most insightful analysis I can come up with on that one is that didn't work back to the drawing board to see if there's something that works a little better soon or if I can quote the great Reese Davis that was very UNG good not a productive first down play didn't get much done on that first play of the drive it's second and 11 and the quarterback goes down at the 11 yd line and you're seeing the pass rush on the second play of the drive they dial it up look at the speed and athleticism this defense has is they Crow the quarterback for a loss not exactly the ideal situation for this offense third and long backed up inside their 20 he's looking downfield to throw he'll pull it down and he's not going to make it the defense denying him the first down you know you hear the term nickel so much most people stay in nickel most of the time because of all the speed in colge football in the running quarterback and you see why it pays dividends more speed on the field when the QB does take off to go get him on the ground and force a fourth down fourth down and the punt team sends it the other way might have thought he'd want to try to pick up a few yards there but he's content with making the fair catch right around the 35 yd line from the gun they'll give it on the inside he's dropped behind the line of scrimmage that'll be a loss of three how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions last play was a near disaster now dealing with second and 13 oh so close to paying off the tip drill he had it in his hands but it falls incomplete good job on defense getting a hand on it tipping it up in the air they weren't able to pick it off but they do Force the in completion a third and long coming up here looking to throw and he needs a bunch and a missed opportunity on third down as the defense knocks it free and fourth down is coming up this is a point where you just got to be able to focus the critical down and distances in this game like that third down right there when it's a good throw you got to make the catch you got to be able to make that play and the nitty Lions will send out the punt unit no return coming here as he signals for the faar catch and makes it right around the 30 yd Line West Virginia has it in the offense ready to go to work the last time we saw this offense we had to look quick it was a three and out Jesse he just had no rhythm in that last drive so someone's going to have to step up and make a play David and get this thing going yeah let's find some juice find your guy find those plays that you know you can run inside out forward backwards get some first downs get some positive momentum now on second down back to throw it's green he finds his man and he'll be brought down that big pick up on what they call the drag route but if you hit it on time you can hit the turbo boosters and you've got to be accurate on the throw too Reese nice job by the QB there putting it out in front of his receiver to make an easy catch and then Advance it and they got the completion but still looking at a third down he'll do it himself fights his way for a couple but stopped short of the marker it's fourth and one you know I really like this QB running the football because I know he's got a lot of speed but he's not the biggest guy in the world so he's not going to be able to break a lot of tackles you really got to do a good job of trying to scheme ways to get him out in more space the Mountaineers decide to punt it away this will be the second time they've had to kick it away signals for the fair Catch and that's where they'll put it in play just outside the 20 pen Stak sends the offense back onto the field looking for a crease it's Singleton steam rolls his way ahead Running Back Square their shoulders up it's when they have the most power you see him Square his shoulders up break tackles strong continue to plow his way forward just making it really easy on everybody in this offense by breaking tackles second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning we'll take a quick break here two minutes to play in the first half and now on second down for this offense he's looking to throw got it in the middle it's Saunders wrestled down at the 32 after a pickup of five nice completion here to this wide receiver and you're going to see this receiver line up in different spots all over the field all game long defense has got to keep their eye on where this guy is because they know he's a big part of this offensive success it's a first down they'll stop the clock to reset the chains offense Up Tempo he wants to take the top off and it slips through his fingers incomplete that would have been a huge gain if he could have squeezed it well you make big plays for your quarterback in the game you catch a touchdown pass he's going to look your way again often downfield like they did right there but give the defense credit forcing an incompletion and after the incompletion on first down this offense looking at second down pulls it in it's Singleton didn't pick up a lot there moved it Forward just a few they were able to make the completion but he had to pick his way for just a little bit needed a little more help to Spring him for some yardage yeah if you're going to have success when you throw it outside like that you're going to need some more blocking and better blocking downfield give the defense credit though they were able to rally and made a tackle on Third and long he has to throw for it and that's incomplete a Defender all over him knocked the ball to the ground fourth down coming up it's a nice job by the receiver working past the sticks looked like it was going to be a first down by the offense but how about the physical play knocking that ball loose the nney Lions will call on their punt team fourth time tonight we've seen this guy come on to [Applause] punt he'll get it to about the 25 before they put a stop to the return West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that Playbook last time David it was one two three kick yeah last drive that three and out sometimes that puts your defense in a bad spot and you got to get a drive together here so you don't wear the defense out I just think David too predictable that last Drive they got to do something here to get this defense on their heels looking to pass it's green gets it out fast the offense will quickly use a timeout I really like this slot you're receiving because of his shiftiness and you see that on his route run really really nice job creating separation for his QB catch in the middle it's Gallagher they stop him just short of the first down but it will be second and inches coming up the offense Burns its third and final timeout of the half wants to throw on second down quickly to the tight end he's one out of bounds but not before turning in a big pickup and moving the sticks for a first down first well I know the tight end did some good things after the catch but got to give the quarterback credit too for the location of the throw because he put it out in front of his big man he was able to make the catch and accelerate creating some distance there between him and the defense comes out throwing on first down can't find a man and he'll be knocked down at the 40 a what a nice answer by this defense you give up the big play you respond right back you get the sack create some momentum for your side nice job by this defense staying with it the hurry up now second down clock ticking he's looking to throw trying to get to him shakes off the defender and a little too much adrenaline on that throw never gave his receiver a chance [Music] and it's third down but they're going to go ahead and try the field goal and try to get points before the break he's going to have to break out the thunderfoot on this one a 57 yd attempt and this one splits the upright and with that they've taken the lead well that kid just showed off his hammer for a leg 50 plus and he did it with [Music] je so they get the late field goal right before the half and not much time after this kickoff for an answer here he comes from inside his own five they make the Stop and that is the end of the first half at the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin in our halftime update gentlemen what a pleasure it's been to watch these two teams thus far there in Morgantown and it's been said football is a game of inches and guess what based on the comparison between third down conversion rate today and the average yard per play how can you argue that I mean the low-lying fruit is to look at some of the explosive plays we've seen in panic but really this game is going to come down to which team is more efficient when they have the ball and how they play when it matters most and with that let's take the old country roads on our way back to Mountaineer field we're ready to get it started here in the second half fielded In The End Zone it's Fox he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 West Virginia has it in the offense ready to go to work they start this third quarter with the lead but they might want to think about Shoring up that protection yeah the good news is you're you're leading on the scoreboard the bad news is your quarterback doesn't feel like it cuz you can't protect him so David adjustments and pass protection that has to be something they were talking about here at halftime 100% just you can't get him hit that much he's still doing a good job delivering the football but if you keep hitting the quarterback enough man they'll start to see ghost they'll panic and they'll make some of those mistakes back to throw it's green he makes the action they stop him almost immediately short gain there and still a little ground to cover to pick up the first that's a good job by the drag route there understanding it Zone coverage so instead of continuing to run across the field he settles down into an open spot making it easy for his quarterback fairly manageable distance here on third down from the 27 they'll try to move the chains on the ground and he surges up to the 36 yd line and they'll move the chains man that was a good run but it was almost even better great job by the offense keep the running game going you get big chunks Like This Not only was that a big chunk it also looked like it could have gone for more and the Mountaineers come to the line with a fresh set of downs they're going to ride this running back that's a really good job by the defense wrapping them up getting them on the ground take away that run game make them onedimensional put him in passing situations really good job by the defense picked up two yards on that last one they need eight on second down he's looking to throw grabbed in the middle it's Robinson and good coverage by the defense just a short game and quarterback dropping back understanding I'm getting Zone coverage all I got to do is be a little bit patient manipulate that defense a little bit my wide receiver runs that drag and I get the first down they've got it at the 41 third and short trying to keep the chains moving from the gun wants to pass makes the grab really nice job there by both guys to throw and the catch to work that defense and get the first down and on that third and short I don't think he was unhappy to see that zone nope was a great job by the offense hey see where the holes in the zone are sit down you only need a little bit of yards on this third down get the conversion move the sticks caught in the back field it's Gallagher and there is nothing doing on that one you got the completion and nothing else to show for it they're trying to throw the screen out to the receiver the defense though having none of that they are just too physical they're too fast they force a negative play they've got a really good drive going but a little speed bump here at second and 13 grabbed over the middle it's Gallagher he's there to make the Stop and the damage has been done as they pick up the first down on the throwing catch if they're going to sit back in zone I'm going to make sure I know exactly what they're doing find those holes find those Crossing patterns and take advantage of that zone coverage they'll snap it on first down from the 35 they'll leave it with the lone back and he is showing it all and finding ways to pick up yards he's down to the 28 yeah this coaching staff they're getting this offensive line lathered up and into a rhythm now they're letting him drive off the ball on first down on these running plays and they're getting chunks of yardage they can really be aggressive after that last play it's second and three looking to throw it's green fires to the right he's got it the stop is made but this offense is threatening first and goal from the nine tell you what that's great execution between QB and receiver they look like they could execute that throw in their sleep quarterback took his steps threw it on time great route by the receiver nice job securing the catch the Mountaineers will try to put one on the board on first and goal they'll try to get it in with the Run he'll pick up three before he's down at the six he's Dr down at the Y Line brings up defense trying to come up with a stop on second and goal the run up the middle looking for the score he pushes his way down to the four as they get closer and closer unsuccessful second down and now I'm immediately thinking I got a little bit more than I want so what are my pass plays what am I going to get into here offensively to try to have success on third down they've converted third Downs all day long and now a chance to get a touchdown on Third and goal from the gun wants to pass they're bringing heat and you race it to the house touchdown mountainer the offense flexes its muscle a bit and widens the Gap take a little exhale you know you did your job you got points now you put your defense in position where hey go out and get another stop we're in great shape so the offense definitely taking care of their [Music] business they'll try to attack one more on their score exra point and with the extra point they push the lead out a little further precise Relentless execution on that 13pl scoring Drive and they finish it off with the score from the four about to kick it off after punching it in for the touchdown he'll start the return inside his five he was hoping for something a little more Dynamic but they get him on the ground at the 20 the Dy Lions going back to work on offense now they are trailing by 10 here Jesse but this is the type of team that seems comfortable in an offensive shootout you got to hold serve at this point right you got to drive dve the field put some more points up on the board yeah they just scored you can answer that now and keep this thing close and I think you're used to that as offense like football is so fastpaced now and you score so quickly it's not that big of a deal to get down 10 you keep being you keep being [Applause] aggressive he'll pull it on the read pass the sticks in still on his feet and he's got enough for the first down it'll be at the 35 oo I like that option play I'd keep running that too cuz it's obvious the defense right now is really keying in on this running back that was a big point of emphasis for them all week long in practice and it's opening up holes now for the quarterback to run the nitty Lions racing to the line in the hurry [Applause] up the run to the right still on his feet at the 45 and he was Off to the Races and he gets it to the 45 yeah defensively you better be ready to run east and west when you're playing against this offense in their running game that time the offense was able to outflank the defense to the right side for a big play the nitty lions with the first and 10 touch pass on the Jet Sweep each brought down but he went backwards after that completion not the way they had it drawn up got to give a defense credit watching film anticipating they knew that this offense had this play in their back pocket they knew about the speed of this wide receiver and different ways they were going to try to get him involved everybody on defense on the same page playing together I love it out of the gun they give to the back able to pick his way forward for a decent game before the defense gets him down it's the emmo of this offense and they really put a lot on the offensive line to go out and really trying to establish their dominance and their assertiveness and they've done a good job of that early in this game running the football and this offense just has to find a way to convert this third down or else they are really in trouble looking to throw it's Allard going for the big play pulls it in inside the 10 touchdown nitty Lions made the a snag and strolled his way into the end zone how about that quarterback taking the shot down field and delivering to the wide open receiver I love this quarterback Reese cuz he's aggressive he wants to take shots he's looking for every opportunity to show off that Cannon and that arm Talent he showed it to all of us right [Music] there he'll try to tack on one more and the Pat will draw them one point closer so that scoring Drive took only six plays and the finisher coming on that 42 yd touchdown toss the kickoff team out there and ready to go fielded In The End Zone it's Fox he was looking looking for some Running Room but not much to be found as he stopped at the 18 West Virginia has it back ready to dive into that playbook out of the gun the running back has it picks his way ahead pick up of three and gets it to the 20 yd line this is so nice to know you can start off on first down with positive plays positive yards hand the football off set up a good second down got three on first down it's second and seven they'll go right back to him into the pile maybe got one he stopped at the 21 at the 21 yd line up third third down conversions are a huge stat and this one would be a doozy if they can pull it off looking down field it's green he looks that one in nicely he will step out of bounds but not before the big pick up and a first down for this offense West [Applause] Virginia if you like old cool running games this has been the game for you and a couple of guys who starred through the first three periods one more period to go to see who can make the winning plays and come home with the Victory and this set of downs gets started from the 33 first and 10 used the play fake now to throw grabbed behind the line it's Davis and he might be known for one pits but that was a sure and heavy tackle on the tight end and that's why play action is going to be big in this game you saw how it just Freez the second level of that defense just for a second and allowed the tight end to work himself vertically down the field but how about this guy after the catch right so hard to bring down what a weapon he's got an open man he's brought down but there's a flag on the field let's see what the call is those so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty offense gets set for second down they move the tight end all over and that's going to fall to the ground incomplete that was a physical matchup there third down coming and there's so much for a quarterback to think about stick it out in the belly do I pull it now when I pull it oh I got to get my feet set make an accurate throw to the right guy so a lot of things going on and I think that you saw that led to a little bit of inaccuracy trying to move the sticks on third down through the air and the incomplete pass will bring up fourth down and that is a frustrating possession for this offense you wanted to run the football maybe take some time you did the opposite got in a bad situation threw the football sto the clock not how you manage a game late in the fourth quarter number and the Mountaineers will try to pin them back with the punt he gets it up to the 34 yd line before he stopped and that's where the offense will set up shot looking for a productive play on first down they're going to test that run defense to the right here and this defense has its work cut out to get this dude on the ground he was shedding serious tackles on his way to picking up the first well you saw that broken tackle David this defense has to do a real good job with gang tackling to stop this guy today you cannot assume one guy is going to get him to the ground everybody's got to swarm to the football all eyes on him and play physical they're going to go right back to him on first down after the pickup of nine it's second and one you want to talk about making it easy for an offensive Bo you pick up yards on first down make that second down really really manageable that's a great job by the offense after the nyd pickup on first down here's second and [Applause] one GRE snap tackle is made after the first down well it's not a home run but it's just enough by the running back to move the chains the nitty Lions will snap it on First and 10 they'll run it on the counter really nice stop there from this senior leader down didn't get much on first down it's second and nine it'll be a draw nowhere to run on that one he loses four on the carry and they sniff that draw out when the draw you really have to sell that pass like you're going to throw the ball down the field but the defensive line the defense was not biting it you could tell they were ready for it came got on the running back got him on the ground quick fast and in a hurry they need to get a little closer for a field goal try and they've got to do it in a hurry on Third and long a check down would be the last resort and he pulls it in inside the 15 yd line and they finally get him stopped but it's a big throwing catch and he's down at the five what a beautiful throw and catch on this play and I love the job the receiver did tracking the ball in the air nice job of locating the throw and then hauling it in so now the opportunity to take the lead with a first first and goal here they'll try to get it in with the Run he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple so no room to run there and you wonder after that loss on first down where they turn now yeah and that's why it's so important for the defense to win these first downs right you want to create negative plays to make this offense so much more predictable defense roll up deep in its own end on that last play now a second and long coming tries again to get it in they get him on the ground at the three yd line but this defense is taking some punches and this offense trying to be physical inside the 5 yd line I get it but I tell you what pmer this quarterback has earned some trust for me with the day he's had yeah right now he's thinking put the game in my hands I'm playing well and I'm seeing the defense well I see what they're doing from a coverage standpoint count touchdown Penn State and they grab the advantage taking the lead here in the four number two in [Music] theend P unit on the field the extra point and the extra point is good and every Point counts it's now a fourpoint lead in the fourth that score virin about to kick it away after scoring the touchdown kick he'll bring it back from inside to SP just never had a chance to shake loose and he'll be brought down at the 24 West Virginia has it and the offense ready to go to work from the gun running back gets to give gets the nose of the ball to the 25 give him one at the 25 y bring up didn't get much on first down it's second and nine dropping back it's green they're setting up the screen they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some lanes for their running back great job too by the QB there holding the ball as long as possible allowing the pass rush to get up field and at the very last second getting it to his guide so that he can go get the first down trying to find his man on first down fires to the tight end and a good job in coverage there as they stop it after just a few I'll say this man in college football you see a lot of bad tackling you didn't see it right there that was an awesome job first off being there at the point of attack once the tight end made the catch there was no doubt he was going down great job form tackle let's see what they've got on second down he's looking to throw good timing on the quick out they make the stop right there good pickup and still short of the first down I love the anticipation on that throw by the QB on the out route you got to throw it before the receiver comes out of his break nice work third and short from the 44 and we might know if they plan to go for it on fourth down by what they call here they'll try to pick it up on the ground the Mountaineers getting up for the first down well the offense knew what they needed to get that first down so they dial up the running play and they get just enough to keep the drive alive and the Mountaineers are marching down the field they'll throw it on first down catch in the middle it's fox really nice job by the quarterback understanding I needed to throw this ball hard like I got to fit it in there tight and a nice job by the wide receiver wearing it cuz he really didn't have a choice cuz he was going to wear that one regardless second down here and maybe they've got time to get one more snap off before the two-minute warning we have reached the two-minute warning and time is of the essence if this offense is going to make a play sixth play of the drive coming up looking to throw it's green fires to the big fella and a good job of coverage by that defense just a short pick up defense comes up with a really big stop there that's nice they don't give up the first down so the clock keeps working but they're on their own end of the field they know this offense is going to start taking shots into the end zone they better have some guys ready on the back end ready to swat some balls away and make some plays they've been able to control the ball this is the seventh play of the drive it's third and three grab behind the line it's fight he gets it oh so close to the first down marker but I think he's going to be a touch short and this is easily the most important play Call of the game now fourth down you're out of field goal range you have to come up with a completion here to give yourself an opportunity to win this game the clock is relentlessly working against them down four they'll go for it on fourth down he'll go up top maybe a deciding play here makes the catch he's got enough and they wrap him up but not before he's got enough for the first down and that is the advantage of having versatility at the running back position right it's Fourth Down everyone in the stadium thinks he's going to get the hand off but because of his ability to catch the football he's a weapon in the passing game and on a critical down and distance like that comes up with a huge first down they'll throw it on first down fires to the wide out tremendous awareness along the sideline and the ability to get the foot down for the big pick up precis an execution there to work the sidelines pick up the first down and stop the clock yeah great job by the offense you got to understand the situation the clock is the enemy late in the ball game got to have a score like you said reys work the outer part of the field so I can catch the football and get out of bounds and the pass hits picked off and he's brought down and this defense gets the ball back for to that might be the nail in the coffin fellas this offense they're trying to get back in the game having to be aggressive you're now going to have to start taking chances an errant throw ends up in the hands of the defense and I think that's all she wrote Penn State sends the offense back onto the field so that defense keeps the lead right where it is and a chance to build on it David yeah the defense did a great job now the offense you know what you're going to get from this defense they have to be aggressive they're trying to get the football back later in the game just because they're going to be so aggressive too David you know on offense now you have a chance to break one maybe in the Run game we're finding a one-on-one matchup in the passing game to really pad the lead the hand to the running back finally pulled down but not before moving the change for a first down defense takes a timeout with 30 seconds remaining West Virginia and listen the offensive line has to do their job but a really good job by the running back understanding where his hole is go hit it get the first down don't mess around nice job following his hole getting positive yards [Music]
