completion results there in nine yards and it'll bring up a second and [Applause] short playaction it's G complete to right a gain of five good enough for the first down that was a route run not just with dexterity but with int intelligence found the hole in the zone made sure the quarterback saw him and was able to make the short catch and flip the down marker back to [Applause] one they will run for the first time with David Montgomery and that one blown up quickly as he's going to be stopped before he could even get started it's a loss of five there bringing up second we're scoreless after one second quarter action now from Detroit and it's the hom standing Lions who have the football so a 5yd run the other way in the wrong direction and that leads us to Second and 15 gof now to throw [Applause] toward the sideline and look at that catch dragging the toes and that's going to be a first down well done a good pick up there of 20 yds yeah that's a pretty throw right there it's man coverage on the left side of the field and this is some really good footwork by his receiver able to create some space at the top of his route and the ball's delivered right on to I believe they Buzz down they're going to take another look at this play with all reviews coming from the replay official here in the final two minutes of the half [Applause] did he keep those feet in bounds that's the question they've got to decide and I got to say watching it in real time it was awfully close yeah it certainly looked like a heck of a catch because he didn't appear to Bobble it which could complicate things but even with the benefit of Replay that's pretty tight now here's the call could we get a touchdown in this first half after after all it's first and 10 in motion goes Raymond gof now looks to throw throw to St Brown complete on the left side the Lions will use the first of their timeouts as the clock shows 50 seconds to play here in half number one [Applause] gof now looking to throw they'll set up the screen to Montgomery the Lions now going to use the second of their timeouts so that means they're down to one remaining here as we head toward halftime [Applause] now second and nine again DOL throw over the middle he finds Williams and he gets it all the way down inside the 10 and Mark him at the five an excellent pickup of 20 yds it's all pretty simple sometimes isn't it go where the Defenders are not and he does does exactly that makes a nice catch to move the chains defense got to find a better way of accounting for the shorter routes that are being run again there's L pette he's got it touchdown Lions a great effort there as the first half is winding down and the Lions have taken the lead here in the final stages of this first half well that drive felt like it took up an eternity we finally have some action on the scoreboard yeah but plenty of action prior too because that drive took up all the first quarter before we spilled into the second and finally points were registered on the other sideline they're chopping at the bit just to get the football the call is to go for one and kick the extra point it's up it's good and the Lions lead seven nothing so that drive takes him down the field in eight plays and it's capped off by a touchdown for the line [Applause] so not much time to speak of remaining of this first half as the kicks away out of the end zone it's two two Atwell and not much happening on the return as he'll get this to about the 23 the LA offense going to go to work for the first time and it is the veteran Matthew Stafford at the helm in his 16th NFL season and fourth with the Rams Stafford is one of those quarterbacks who didn't get the credit he deserved for the majority of his career due to the fact he's playing on teams that often didn't make the playoffs but that narrative emphatically changed when he changed his surroundings and won a Super Bowl with the Rams he's had a few injuries in the intervening years but now that he's fully healthy he plans on getting his team back into the championship conversation they'll indeed try to run it out as they start on the ground and he'll just push his way forward for a few as the clock will run so we've reached halftime with just the lone touchdown here 7 nothing is our score as we'll send you down to Orlando and we check in with Jonathan Coachman for our EA Sports halime report coach the lions got a very strong performance out of their quarterback Jared G his touchdown pass is the only score of the game thus far as his guys hold a s nothing lead to this point okay Coach yeah adjustments likely going to play a big role in this this third quarter and what's been a tight contest so far just the one touchdown in that first half seven nothing our score as we get going in quarter number three and he'll be stopped up at the 25 so the Rams coming back on of the field their second Drive of the game and they do Trail but they have a chance to possess the football first to try and do something about it and that certainly makes it something of an important drive for them because is it going to win the game no but you have to do something to bring some life to your sideline and they'll send the tight end in motion left now Stafford that's into the hands of Parkinson the tight end they'll wind up getting just a yard and that will bring up second down they'd love to just strike back with a touchdown right here and if it's a long play so be it but the main goal get a couple of first downs run some plays run some clock allow their defense to get a chance to catch their breath settle down and relax a little bit after they just gave up the score offensive line wasn't set there's the flag and five yds back they go quarterback has to look around and make sure that his team is ready to go sometimes the quarterbacks go faster than is necessary and that false start penalty certainly not helping their cause here second down and long a shotgun snap for Stafford throwing over the middle and it's incomplete there's an incompletion partner and the struggles through the air continue because so far their lack of passing production has led to a lack of points an incomplete pass on that last play and that means they'll need to come up with something here on third down here's Stafford screen play set up for Williams and he'll be stopped at the 27 yd line well short of the first down marker that one good for only six and it leaves him with a fourth down one quarter remains here on a Sunday night you're watching the NFL on EA Sports back now at Ford Field it's the Rams trailing but they do have the football as we start the fourth and final quarter desperation time for Stafford on fourth down and it's going to be batted down and we go the other way with a football they had to go for it with such little time remaining and it'll be a turnover on downs I guess they wanted to get that touchdown right back on their first drive but failed to do so and what they have to be careful of is pushing so hard to stay right there to stay even with their opponent that they gas themselves out you know it's almost like horse racing sometimes you don't want to take your horse right to the front and let them do all the work and then someone catch them at the end and pass them up you want to make sure you moderate what you're doing along the way and then go for the big [Applause] finish they got to have two hands on the football here as they run on first down and he can only manage to get a couple second and eight coming [Applause] [Applause] up he's going to get it again just looking to get forward and protect the ball now the Rams will signal for a timeout their second as they get the stoppage with just under 50 seconds remaining in the [Applause] fourth the Rams calling on their nickel set here defensively for third down they'll keep pounding here with Montgomery and he's brought down short two yds there needed four the Rams going to be forced to use their third and final timeout as the clock stops here with 46 seconds left to [Applause] play so the field goal unit is on the field as this is a big spot right here this to perhaps salt this one away and this one is l through so the starting field position was terrific following the surprising turnover on downs but the end result only three points simply stated I think you have to look at that as a missed opportunity [Music] [Applause] [Music] here are the Lions now as they line up and kick this one [Applause] away and they will Wrangle it down a couple yards shy of the 30 so now Stafford and the Rams down 10 nothing a little under 40 seconds to go they've yet to Dent the scoreboard tonight now they've got to do it twice late if they want a chance here Stafford now to throw and that went to the right side and incomplete this offense has had his troubles moving the ball all night so now you getting this situation hard to imagine that suddenly they're going to start clicking and moving the ball down field just over 30 seconds remain here's second and 10 now now it's [Applause] Stafford that'll be caught by C and he will get out of bounds here to stop the clock but not a huge pickup there six maybe seven all that practice time came to fruition on that play all those timing routes that they work on through training camp ota's mini camp and this regular season they got it done on that one an outcut ball was delivered and picked up the completion Stafford and this is intercepted and that should do it Jack Campbell with a pick and they'll start with great field position at the 41 yd line how about one last great play defensively and that should for all intents and purposes finish off this shutout that's as good a defensive performances we've seen in a long long time and I know as a team they will celebrate but I will guarantee you the defensive guys they'll get together somewhere and have their own private celebration a shut out that's something to be cherished here's the Detroit offense now as they head back out onto the field and they've got this one in hand no timeouts remaining defensively so this one should just be one kneel and then handshakes [Applause] gof with a kneel down here and that should put a conclusion to this one Brandon I can just tell you from experience there's nothing like pitching a shut out on defense but even more so when it's a tight game I mean when every defensive play is crucial and you don't give up any points boy they're going to feel awfully good about themselves after this one yeah exactly the offense wasn't humming but hey all they needed was you can't score one point they needed was two point well you can't score two points on offense all they needed was at least three and they got what they needed they got what they needed exactly right so this one's over it's a win for the Detroit Lions and not all W's are created equal CD and this one came in shut out fashion well the offense certainly didn't need to do anything right they could take the day off and they did but the defense They carried them in a big way yeah look the offense obviously stuff to work on but they did enough and the defense carried the load but you know what they say it's always fun to work on things if it didn't go well in your game with a victory in your
