e coming to you live from Southern California inter league baseball on MLB The Show it's the Texas Rangers taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers joined by my partner Chris Singleton I'm John shamby so the Los Angeles Dodgers have taken the first two games of this series and today they'll go for the sweep they played well Chris and they're looking for more of the same in this one yeah they've been the side shaking hands on the field after each game so far played solid baseball to earn those wins as you said but every game offers up its own unique challenges so we'll see what those are today but there's always a little extra motivation when you have an opportunity to sweep a series all right we'll be back to get this one started after this just about to get underway and starting in this one Bobby Miller well he brings into this one an excellent strikeout to walk ratio on the season and when you consider the amount of swings and misses that he gets and the fact that he's not issuing free passes that's going to make him more economical in his pitch count allow him to move into the middle and deeper part of ball games so we'll see if that remains true in this one the wi and the pitch and a foul ball left side [Music] that one finds the zone and it's O and two swing and a miss struck him out some high cheese for strike three very frustrating right there as a speedy potential base runner when with two strikes you just struggle to put the ball in play you don't even have to get a hit at that point you can help your team just by reaching on an error but some way you got to find a way to shorten up the swing and put the ball in play next time now Evan Carter and a foul ball hit hard that gets through so they get a man aboard with a one out single well his hot hitting continues he's been getting great results lately really nice job staying up the Middle with his approach he didn't try to do too much with the pitch just shot it through the infield and now let's see if they force some action with good Wheels on the bases and here's Cory Seager to hit and that's in for a strike [Applause] and the rander deals well he's really working him away this sbat sometimes take a little bit off velocity try to get a roll over something on the ground stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield righty delivers went too far that time it's one and two Carter stands it first with one out sets him down on strikes couldn't pull the trigger on a fast ball at the knees well he's got great strikeout stuff on the mound doesn't he I mean double digit strikeouts in his last start and he's just racking him up again in this one this guy can really dominate a game out there not a fun assignment for any lineup next to bat will be the Texas cleanup hitter adolis Garcia and first offering is fouled off two gone but the goahead run is at first here in the third and final game of the series The kick in the pitch Runner goes strike in there throw there [Applause] safe singy he definitely showed off the wheels there yeah and it turn turned out to be a bang bang play stat cast gives us the data and that stolen base wasn't possible without that Sprint speed man it's second that one down the line into the Outfield base hit coming home and they'll score first it's on it and he's out cut down and that ends the inning so they get one run on two hits no errors and no one left on on to the bottom of the first it's the Rangers one the Dodgers coming [Applause] back back here with my pal singy and today's starter John Gray and Chris he's a guy that gets better when things get tough well no doubt about it he's going to have to put together some consistently good performances in order to bring that er down now he's got good stuff he's just got to be able to have confidence trusted and really go after hitters not nibble trusted his stuff can have late life in Miss barrels of [Applause] bats out to short Seager on to first one up one down here's the Dodgers lineup now and a big part of it a guy with a great track record Freddy Freeman boo if I'm the manager this this is the guy I wanted to play with the game on the line I mean he's just so special in these situations the best of the best man they find a way to visualize those big moments well in advance and they just slow everything down when they get into that situation they come to the plate with the plan they've studied the pitcher and they just seem to execute a lot more than the average guy I think that's part of what makes him so special next offering is in for a strike well he left that change up up got away with one there and he'll take it but doesn't want to make that mistake again gets under it and Pops it up they got it for out number two that third the left fielder jar two out bace is empty and now teoscar [Applause] Hernandez swing and a miss strike one 01 two outs Bas is [Applause] empty and it's even up one ball one strike two down nobody on drilled out toward it's left center field that's well struck that's back there tattooed to Tater town and gone a massive home run it's 1-1 he absolutely crushed that one no doubt about that one boo we knew it wasn't coming back [Applause] just an excellent swing all the way around and it had that sound coming off the back that gets everyone's attention got to pitch to drive short to the baseball squared it up and the backs been carried it out of here base is empty with two away here's mooki to hit two homers in the game yesterday so he's feeling good coming in just missed you have to be creative pitching against bad ball hitters you got to add some some velocity subtract at times just avoiding the heart of the plate isn't always going to be enough guys like this can hurt you with pitches you wouldn't expect them to swing at there's a strike tied up here in the early [Applause] going next offering is in for a strike the wi of the pitch way high with that one two and two well this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the advat I'm sure there's sometimes where pitch would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter sh Otani IND the on Deck Circle [Music] [Applause] pulled down the line this one hammered but it's foul oh good solid contact right there just a bit out in front of that fast ball got to try to stay on that backside just a little bit longer and see if you can do some damage and a swing and a miss and that's that solo shot for the Dodgers this inning all even now at 1-1 it's major league baseball and it's on on the show top of the second and here is Marcus Simeon Miller back to work swing in a Miss as he was out front that time next offering is downstairs time to look at our umpiring crew in this one Kenny Jansen behind the plate yeah and expect a little inconsistency on the corners he doesn't make any wild calls but he does give and take there a little bit so he doesn't have the easiest Strike Zone to figure out especially as the game goes on when you're expecting it to become more consistent [Applause] goes down looking I don't know about you Chris but that felt like a weird atat right there didn't give much to hit till the final pitch and he still got the backwards k yeah not a single pitch was actually inside the strike zone but he was being very aggressive in the box and fell behind in the count then they finally do challenge him and he couldn't get the bat off his shoulder kind of a strange strike out for sure Bo here's Nathaniel Low T dances out of the way that one one out Bas is empty just off the outside edge ball two when you get ahead in the count there's no doubt that the success rate goes up and that's what he's been doing it's made a big impact for him in recent games pass ball for a strike that was absolute gas triple digits on the gun it's just a different experience as a hitter watching that go [Music] by down and [Applause] in 3-1 and he couldn't come up with it well he tried to nibble right there and just missed his spot hitter didn't offer at it now he has somebody to worry about over at first here's Josh Young two for n so far in the series on the ground right side the feet for one Double Play What a twin killing to end the inning nothing doing here this half now to the bottom of the second all tied [Applause] 1-1 bottom of the second and now here's the veteran DH sh Otani the right hter back to wor that's inside ball one definitely a swing and Miss slider down and in he finished that really well just couldn't get him to offer at it and that's off the Inside Edge and that's ball two [Applause] fast for a strike I think he was sitting off speed right there because he just let the fast go [Applause] by two two now popped up foul territory behind the plate and there's one away batting good the center field J James outman steps to the plate for the [Music] Dodgers just [Applause] missed next offering is down low two ball no strike [Applause] one down base is empty and there's a strike in today's game not that many fast ball counts but hitters still in the back of their minds they're looking for one two change up call right there excellent pitch selection to go with kicks andial wor burner into the outfield for a knock so a man aboard now with one away well patience and discipline paid off right there as he got into an advantage count everyone's trying to elevate the ball in today's game but if you can hit a ball that hard on the ground it's going to find some holes and up to the plate is Will Smith good power not great in the OBP department and that one ripped to left and he makes the [Applause] catch batting in the third baseman Max here's Max Muny that funky [Applause] Muny and that's outside and that's ball one swings through that one for strike one he's trying to stay away from this Lefty knowing that a lot of leanders like the ball down and [Music] [Applause] in here comes the pitch there goes the runner from first ball outside throw a second out there and that ends the inning well trying to get in scoring position but a great catch and throw to end the inning that's the way to pick up the pitcher on to the third inning now here's the Rangers DH Ezekiel Duran eel Duran and the pitch Duran goes 5' 11 in in the eigh spoted today's lineup and he's driven in eight runs over his last 10 [Applause] games kicks and fires lifted in the air right field Taylor calls it in and there's one away here's Andrew K it's been a tough stretch for him at the plate just one hit in his last five [Music] games swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play the 01 1-1 right through there for a strike a swing and a soft liner and a base hit so now back to the top of the order didn't exactly square that one up but sometimes you don't have to ripped that one down the line and kept it fair and even when you hit it that far out front you still have to keep your hands tight to your body so you don't hook around that baseball and put it in foul territory and that right there was perfect digging in it's the Speedy outfielder leot tares and there's a foul [Applause] [Applause] ball fouled off he was [Applause] late kizner leads off first with one away foul ball left side he'll see [Applause] another just misses the mark outside the Zone it's a good take cuts on it and misses that's a strike out couldn't hit the fast ball at the knees and Chris that's a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base and the defense breathes a sigh relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play but that's how you do it keep him off balance get him out of there and deal with the next guy so up next Evan Carter singled and scored his first time shot missed at the belt and fires right through there for a [Applause] strike and pitch in for a strike one and two one ball two St two outs inside and hit him he had two strikes on him and he hit him stepping in the slugging shortstop Cory Seager [Applause] that one finds the zone and that is strike one first and second two down we're here in the top half of inning number three that misses the zone and it's one and one ball one [Applause] strike the short stop takes the ball could be some action here on this next pitch couple Runners on probably a challenge pitch coming [Applause] and that's outside 31 two on two outs and he walked him maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there pretty much gifted him first base with a quick free pass Adis Garcia getting ready to hit picked up an RBI in his lasted bat still their only run of the game so far hard hit left side to Second Lux out to escape a Bases Loaded Jam unscathed Rangers threaten but leave him loaded score remains deadlocked at one as we go to the last of the Third and now the veteran third baseman Max M Haw to kick the pitch that's in for a strike swing in a Miss no ball two St backed off the plate that time [Applause] HS and misses it's a strike out well that was perfect execution of that curveball down and in he gets it out of the danger zone and you really can't do it much better than that it's in the zone the entire way so you have to swing as a hitter but then just falls off the table and almost hits you in the back foot Freddy Freeman up to the dish two for seven in the series so far in the air left field under this one and there's two away the batter number nine second basan so the lineup flips over and up next for Los Angeles Gavin Lux 0 for one he grounded out in his first it back that's in there that's strike one [Applause] that one is upstairs 1-1 here's a 1-1 that's hard hit in the line Taris makes the grab and that'll end the inning nothing across here this half three Innings complete all tied 1-1 back here at Chavez Ravine John chambi with Chris Singleton and set to lead off the fourth Marcus [Music] Simeon Miller back to work there's the swing in a Miss well these Rangers showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one he's only given up one run but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there and that might be the best news yet for this offense next offering is fouled back swing and a ball hit out towards left center field Hernandez settles underneath it and there's one down you know sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage and that might be the case today Nathaniel low up to hit walked his first [Music] time ground ball right side and that one handled nice throw from short right to get him to gone I wasn't sure if he was going to get to this one or not had to go a pretty good way there in the shallow right field but then after that it's a tough angle after you square up your shoulders to throw to first base not the normal position but a really good job defensively right [Applause] there young stands in with two away as he takes a ball [Applause] one all tied up top half of inning number four and a good eye there good eye right there oh they have had a hard time scoring in this one the pitcher out there on the mountain wants to keep attacking make sure that they don't get any confidence next offering in there for a strike three and two now man 91 on the slider right there that's a hard one that's a low end fast ball for some [Music] pitchers in the air center field makes the grab on the run and that'll do it so they go quiet ly there to the bottom of inning number four now all tied 1-1 bottom four here comes the D Chris Taylor the right fielder Chris Taylor and he deals to the right side and that chance handled off balance throw oh in time Taylor is out the batt the Le Fielder [Music] jarand here's teoscar Hernandez he's already homered in this [Applause] game swing and a ground ball out to short sends it across to First and Hernandez is out now back Short Stop M Betts here's Mookie Betts his first if bat was a strike out well in their win last game this guy came up with two home runs obviously trying to keep the roll going here in this one and that gets the top of the zone for a strike well made it so comfortable for his Club to secure that win very fresh team today and it doesn't have to be all on him but the way he's been swinging it I expect him to have another big there's a strike O2 that one just misses that's a really good job of laying off the O2 High fast ball is going to make that pitcher really have to respect this hitter even though he's behind in the count hit in the air center field taras going after it and makes the play and that's out number three fifth inning coming up tied at one we go to the top of the fifth now here's the Rangers DH Ezekiel Durant dur the L to the pitch and a strike right through there that one a triple digits [Music] [Applause] out in front and foul to the left [Music] side the pitch one two in the air out towards left Center one away [Applause] now B the up next for the Rangers Andrew kizner and he's already singled in this [Music] game just miss bces empty one away and we're at the top of the fifth and a foul ball on the ground right side gets it to first got the out leot so the batting order turns over leot taras digs in now there's 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts [Applause] and that one just misses a ball and no strikes well on the mound very efficient able to produce an outcome it seems like within the third or fourth pitch of just about every bat next offering is in for a strike this game has been so tight feels like the next team to score will win it the 1-1 is fouled off well he missed a hitable off speed pitch right there not sure exactly with the timing sometimes you get a backup breaking ball you're expecting it to make its move at the end it never does and you're tied up and a swing to miss down on strikes and a nice inning of work there as he sets him down one two three nothing doing for the Rangers still tied 1-1 we head to the bottom of the fifth and now here's the Dodgers designated hitter show otana and here it comes that's inside and that's ball one you know these Dodgers just aren't putting great swings on the baseball in this one just one extra base hit for him so they haven't exactly been hitting the ball Gap to Gap or out of the park that makes it really difficult to generate runs that misses the zone two and one [Music] and the slider just misses this doesn't seem to want to throw him a fast [Applause] ball and there's ball for that could be a tone Setter for the inning four straight pitches and the lead off batter is on base we'll see if the next Guy waits until there's a c strike before he takes the bat off the shoulder and at the plate for the Dodgers James outman there's a b Bo he never moved cuz he never had time to but that kind of velocity you'd prefer that pitcher work away leftand hitter Waits on the ground the second might be two off balance speed there's one over to First sa tough play right there didn't really have enough time to set his feet and make a strong accurate throw had to rush it but he got it off and he got it there in time time to get that out at second base now the catcher up to hit Will Smith 0 for one so far gray moved the first throw and it gets away here's the pitch Runner goes and that one fouled off [Applause] the pitch would chase that [Applause] time next pitch is downstairs way to lay off that pitch [Applause] down one away tie game goahead runs stands at first last half of inning number five the throw tag and he's out that goes to show you stealing a base is a tough thing to do and far from a sure thing even with Big Time speed it's not easy to catch him but that was a great catch and throw quick not rushed and accurate two and two battling here as he fouls it away and a pitch swing and a miss and he struck him out and good work there as he gets a one two three we played five full tied it one aside back here in now the number two hitter Evan Carter singy you got to appreciate a guy who's this good defensively I mean watching him track balls in the Outfield it is beautiful rips one to right Taylor makes the grab one pitch and one out Cory Seager stepping in for the Rangers he's over for one Seager 29 years old and he's a former Rookie of the Year this one ripped but foul to the right all tied up and we're the top half of the sixth next offering is downstairs that one to Triple digits the guy's going this good he's retired seven in a row you got to step out of the box fake butn do something to break it [Applause] up got him swinging for the strike out blew the express right by his Bat for strike three Chris third time through the order and a couple of quick outs for the starter yeah he's been very frugal today economical with the pitch count and now the right fielder adolis Garcia wouldn't chase that time two down nobody on here in the third and final game of the series lace down the line this looks like extra bases now he'll turn for second in safely it's a double and his second H well a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle we saw the numbers coming into the ball game but all he's trying to do at this point is help his team [Music] win and it's scor position with two away here's the second baseman Marcus Simeon the corner and it's own and one no ball one strike man on second two down and fouled off and he'll Chew in there got looking for the K fast at the letters froze him for strike three a lot of adrenaline we can see it right there and sometimes you just got to let it out that's an outstanding job of taking that executing and getting out of a tough [Applause] inning back here at Dodger Stadium and now it's Max mun third M Mon and a pitch swings through the fast ball up in the zone well that's today's style of baseball right there right big time V on the bump and Big Time pop at the plate out to short gathered in by Seager throw to first one away bottom of the six number five fredd Freeman Here Comes Freddy Freeman up to hit fly to left his first time [Applause] right through there for a strike well impressed that he went right after him on that first pitch that's the key try to get ahead in the count then you can play around a little bit more as it bad expands one down base is empty and a strike on the outside edge no ball and now one and two excellent arm action on that two strike change up just missed man he wanted that call that one off the bad part of the bat just a Lazy Fly ball Carter racing over to make the catch now B second B gav back to the top of the Dodgers order now it's the Dodger lead off hitter Gavin Lux that one lifted to left moving in on this one no trouble here puts it away for the out and that is [Applause] that and welcome back to the ballpark we go to the top of the seventh and here's the first baseman Nathaniel low Miller back to work and there's the strike well these Rangers just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game they've been chasing pitches outside the Zone all game and it's led to some frustrating moments they've been fooled quite a bit today fast B for a strike [Applause] well you can't really adjust your game plan for that last pitch guy hasn't thrown it very much you got to focus on the stuff that he's throwing up there most of the time the next offering misses and it's one and two and another ball that one hit to right and that is fouled man that's such a tough call for the Umpire in real time especially since those lines are not made a chalk the way they used to be you got it right though and a pitch up and in and the Count's [Applause] full and he next right fou back that's out of play and the o1 and that one upstairs one ball one strike [Applause] [Music] this one in the air right field sizes this one up no trouble here puts it away for the out and that is [Music] that back here at Chavez Ravine set for the last half of the seventh and at the plate for the Dodgers Chris Taylor saor the pitch that one to First low and one away in the bottom of the seven now B left fieldof Hernandez and now it's going to be teoscar Hernandez he's already homered here in this one fought off [Applause] foul here comes a pitch ball one well it's been a very impressive outing so far his command has been a big part of it even when he misses he misses outside the strike zone which is exactly what a pitcher wants the one- one is fouled off one down base is empty struck him out without a swing called strike three and a fast ball up in the zone really love the pitch sequence right there I'm telling you what pitcher and catcher on the same page right now now it's Wookie bets year in and year out this guy an MVP candidate that's a little bit [Applause] low fast ball for a strike it really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today good fast ball excellent slider but they've not been able to commit to one velocity and stay there right through there for a [Music] strike one two now bounced up the middle to First and Bets is gone three up three down ining over offense held in check there eighth inning coming up all tied 1-1 welcome back and a new arm of the mound to start the eight JP firis well he's been a really tough guy to take deep this season you usually have to string some hits together in order to get to [Applause] him here's the catcher to hit Andrew kizner one for two and [Applause] the pitch left field and it falls so the goahead run is on base with a knock first pitch swing in went up there with a plan to be aggressive hooked around that pitch on the outside but he was still able to square it up pretty nicely and that takes quick strong rist to pull that off back to the top of the line lineup and now it's the Rangers lead off hitter leot taras 0 for three with three strikeouts and that one Clips the [Applause] corner the goahead Run aboard at first nobody out [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] o and two now and that's a little high man oh man I don't know how you take that pitch that's as close as it gets activity in the bullpen for the Dodgers Daniel Hudson looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts Kelly also getting ready roll to short possible two ball there's one and that's all they'll get good that they weren't over zealous there just take the sh out keep the run out of scoring [Applause] position now the left fielder Evan Carter we talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it but pushing the offensive side for just a second Chris it's the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most inside just missed well he gets to balls that get by most people at that position just really impressive because there's certain times the ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they've got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away next offering is down low [Applause] that one is absolutely belted Hernandez going back to the warning track makes the catch that's just a really nice catch on the run right there he saved extra bases for sure if the pitcher is his friend he'll give him a second to catch his breath before he's ready to deal the next pitch next up for Texas Cory Seager a strike out and a walk [Applause] first pitch just misses well if he's going to steal second you want him to go early in the count that way he's not a distraction to the hitter at the plate go ahead and get it out of the way so the hitter can focus on the pitch and the right-hander deals rolled softly but that goes foul [Applause] sliced hard but fouled down the left [Applause] side righty to the plate bouns it off still one and two definitely got the hitter conscious of the pitch inside really think the outer half is open two outs misses inside that's a really good [Applause] take swing and a miss and a change up in the dirt throw is high and over his head makes the turn it second heads for third coming home he will score and they take the lead it's two to one oh this has been a good tight game so far but now that error looms pretty large I got to think that's going to weigh on him for a little while andless somehow they can come back and win this [Applause] thing so runner at second two now so next to hit for Texas adolis Garcia got to be careful with a slugger like this because he can turn it into a three-run game in the blink of an eye live Drive track is down for the out and that's the third out one run one hit one error and one left last half of the eighth coming up it's the Rangers two and the Dodgers one back now new pitch on the mount as we roll into the bottom of the eighth Brock Burke well the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect the tight lead late in the ball game some of them are just wired different so we'll see what he's got here well one run game here's Jo Otani the Lefty fires swinging a Miss that's strike one activity in the bullpen Jose L Clair the closer getting ranked up for a possible save [Applause] opportunity looking to get the tying run on base pitch misses and it's a ball to strike good eye on that spot they want to get beat by a fast ball in and he spits on that one b back our way and that's out of [Applause] play Left Hand batter weights wins and misses on the fast ball up in the zone for the strike out pretty big strike out right there to start this eighth inning down one any lead off base runner really makes this inning a bit more interesting but now this offense has the switch for possibly trying to manufacture a run needing to run into something or just try to string multiple hits together to get run across the plate and the batter now James outman Lefty continues to work but the closer getting loose in the [Applause] bullpen splits the plate and it's 0 and two two really good backto back sliders now in an 02 count he's feeling real confident about finishing this hitter off he can go anywhere he wants just misses [Applause] there swing and a miss struck him out slider got him for strike three very strong coming out of the pin so far as he punches out the first two batters he's faced in this one getting straight to work man it's talked about a lot but relievers are just so electric these days he's AR fun at bats if you're a hitter I'm so glad I'm retired Will Smith steps to the plate for the Dodgers that one's upstairs ball one and that is ball [Applause] one foul ball [Applause] there holding on to a one-run lead here the bottom half of the eighth inning and a foul Bal he stays alive got it by him for the impeccable command in that one three batters three strikeouts that's electric stuff out there on the mound we're back it's the top of the night and there's a new pitcher on the m Joe Kelly just trying to keep this one close here and this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game well one run game now it's the second baseman Marcus Simeon Outfield playing very deep not wanting anything over their heads and the pitch fast ball for a strike Kelly 35 years old and they went out and made a trade for him last season [Music] started after the 01 pitch and now a check down to first he did not go around rander kicks deals misses the zone and he gets him to Chas man that was pretty gross right there and the righty deals stays alive right-handed reliever and another [Music] ball kicks andos that one misses and now it's three and two at the belt and fires bounced out to short bats up with it throws across the diamond now one gone in the ninth good late bite on that slider got the hitter out in front rolled over on it exactly what it was supposed to do Nathaniel low stepping in for the [Applause] Rangers and right back to the mound gathers and throws to first two quick outs here in the top of the night running out of chances to pad the lead up next for the Rangers Josh Young not looking like they'll be adding any insurance runs heading to the bottom of the ninth so it's going to be on the bullpen to hold this [Applause] lead he was late there strike one the Dodgers Bullpen with some action Daniel Hudson looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts crowd locked in right now one-run game here in the ninth [Applause] and that one is lifted in the air Taylor gets under it pulls it down and he makes the catch and that is that nothing doing for the offense that time 891 do up in the bottom of inning number nine it's the Rangers two and the Dodgers won back now as they hand the ball to a fresh arm to start the bottom of the ninth Jose ler save opportunity for him right here and he's their guy time to lock this one down and get out of here with the w here's M SE too A lot of times you're looking for a guy to get that tie and run on base but because of the power you want him to tie up the game with one swing here the pitch almost got him [Music] just missed two count great hitter at the dish if you're going to miss you've got to miss outside the zone you miss inside the strike zone you'll be asking the Umpire for a new
